The action takes place in the present, in and around Robert and his friends’ New York apartments. There will be one fifteen-minute intermission.
Director’s Note In 1970, the country was turning to serious subjects. Vietnam, Roe v. Wade, a decade of civil rights struggle, the women’s movement and assassinations was producing a mind-numbing turbulence in this country, the results of which we are still trying to untangle today. Almost overnight, television went from a land of Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies to All In The Family and Mash. Broadway was not exempt from this serious mood change, in fact, in times of great conflict, the theatre usually benefits rather quickly. Playwrights like Sam Shepard, Lanford Wilson, David Mamet, and Christopher Durang started to make waves throughout the theatrical world, while musicals like OH, CALCUTTA and HAIR shocked audiences with nudity, raw language, and drugs. In the midst of all this rebellion, Stephen Sondheim, a composer/lyricist, previously know for his work on classic musicals like GYPSY, WEST SIDE STORY and A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, teamed with another new playwright, George Furth, and a brilliant director named Harold Prince to create a new genre called the “concept” musical - and the legendary COMPANY was born. COMPANY was nominated for twelve Tony Awards, winning six. It was funny, timely, quirky, and asked questions about relationships that had never been seen onstage in a musical before. Besides that, it had GREAT music. I know of no other musical, except perhaps GUYS AND DOLLS, in which every song is so consistently exciting and perfect for the situation and character. It was and is a seminal musical which came out of a seminal time — my generation’s OKLAHOMA! – Enjoy!

Director’s Note The first time I did GODSPELL was at my undergraduate school. It was a Lutheran college. I was playing Jesus. After opening night there was a discussion afterwards between the audience and the cast in which I was asked, “What did it feel like for you personally to play Christ? Isn’t it intimidating to play a real live historical figure?”. I thought about it for a second and then said, “Well, as an actor playing a character in this production I have to admit that it doesn’t matter to me whether this person ever really walked the earth or not.” Slight gasp, then stunned silence. My answer was NOT well received. I meant no disrespect. I was not proclaiming to be an atheist or to have no spiritual base. What I meant (and went on to explain) was that this particular take on the man called Jesus Christ is not the same as in, say, the Rock Opera, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. GODSPELL was (and is) about the teachings – “Good News For Modern Man”. This is now my fifth production of the show. To let you know how long ago the first was, when we portrayed the Pharisees in one particular scene we used “Who shot J.R.?”! If you don’t understand the reference, don’t worry, we’ve updated our references for the show you are about to see - which brings me to my main point. This show was written over thirty years ago. It was based on material written quite a few years before that. And it still pertains to almost every aspect of our lives. Love your neighbor. Turn the other cheek. Do the right thing. Simple, huh? The original cast of GODSPELL created the following motto to recite before each performance. Being an official “teacher” now, it means more than it ever did: Keep the corners of your mouth turned up. Speak in a low, persuasive tone. Listen; be teachable. Laugh at good stories and learn to tell them... for as long as you are green, brother, you can grow.

Cast & Crew Biographies JESSICA BASHAM (Assistant Stage Manager) is a psychology major, adding a minor in Theatre. STEFANIE BIGELOW (Production Stage Manager) is a Theater Business major and third year student at IU Southeast. This is her fifth consecutive show she has stage managed and she feels honored to be working with Jim Hesselman again and the rest of the cast and crew. She hopes you enjoy GODSPELL and hopes you return for VANITIES and THE BOYS NEXT DOOR. ABBY BRAUNE (Abby) is delighted to be back on the IU Southeast stage. She was last seen as April in COMPANY this past spring. Abby has previously appeared as Felicity in THE SHADOW BOX, and Bunny in THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES. Abby has had a blast working on GODSPELL and absolutely adores everyone in the cast and crew! JESSE BROWN (Jesse) is thrilled to be back on stage this season performing in GODSPELL. He is a Theatre major here at IU Southeast, graduating... eventually. He was most recently seen as Peter in IU Southeast’s production of COMPANY, and as Stevens in Orange County Player’s production of NIGHT OF JANUARY 16TH. He would like to thank his friends, family, director, stage managers, and everyone else he’s morally obliged to thank. He’d also like to invite you out for ice cream after the show — your treat. ANDREW BUCHANAN (Andrew) is a freshman at IU Southeast majoring in psychology. He is very excited to be in his first musical here. His previous credits include, SOMETIMES I WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, PAPER OR PLASTIC, INTO THE WOODS, and FATHER OF THE BRIDE (as the wedding planner) for which he won best supporting actor. Andrew was honored to be part of The Kentucky Ambassadors 2008 European Tour. He would like to thank all his friends and family for supporting him through the years. Much love to you all, you are all wonderful! NIKKI CANNON (Nikki) is a senior majoring in theatre at IU Southeast. After receiving her B.A. in Journalism this past May, she decided to continue her studies and pursue a career in theatre/entertainment. While at IUS, she played four years and was Senior Captain for the Women’s Tennis Team. Nikki is a lifelong resident of Lanesville, Indiana, and graduated from Lanesville High School in 2004. This is her first production at IUS and she is very excited to be a part of GODSPELL! She would like to thank her Mom, Dad, and Daisy for all their love and support and most of all, she hopes you enjoy the show! JOSH GRAF (Josh, Piano, and Musical Director) is happy to be back in the theatre! Past credits as Music Director include: A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM and URINETOWN at The University of Louisville & The Footnotes (Derby Dinner Preshow). Josh is Director of Music and Worship for the Catholic Community of Jeffersonville – Sacred Heart and St. Augustine Churches. Thanks for supporting the local Arts! KELLY HUSSUNG (Kelly) is back at IU Southeast after a brief hiatus. Along with GODSPELL, Kelly has been in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST as Miss Prism, and I NEVER SAW A BUTTERFLY. Some of her favorite plays she has been in the past include THE MUSIC MAN, THE WIZARD OF OZ, AUNTIE MAME (as Agnes Gooch), and other productions at Floyd Central High School. Kelly wants to thank her friends, family, and her Link for their support.

His past performances with IUS include THE SHADOW BOX, LEND ME A TENOR, THE GREAT AMERICAN PEEP SHOW, COMPANY, THE IMPROV. SHOWCASE, SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH, and THE OPEN ROAD . Stephen has also worked professionally both onstage at Derby Dinner Playhouse in CHARLOTTE’S WEB as well as backstage as a stage manager at Bunbury Theatre and Waverly Hills. His directing credits include scenes from THE GOOD DOCTOR and DEATHTRAP as well as the full length production of THE NERD. KYLE PHELPS (Kyle) is a full time student at IU Southeast majoring in Theatre. This is his second year and he is excited to be appearing in his third play on the Robinson stage. His other IUS credits include THE SHADOWBOX and COMPANY. Some of Kyle’s other roles include those in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, THE OUTSIDERS, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, ANNIE, and CINDERELLA. Kyle is excited to be part of this special cast of characters. He would like to thank the cast, crew, and faculty for such a privilege and his family and friends for their support. HILARY REINEN (Hilary) is very excited to be a part of her first show at IU Southeast. As a freshman she is having a wonderful time getting to know the Theater Department. Her past experience includes New Albany High School Theater in shows such as THE SOUND OF MUSIC as Maria, GYPSY as Dainty June, and at Musical Theater of Louisville in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL as Martha. She studies voice with Debbie King and Turley Richards, and she danced for several years at the Webbers School of dance. BRITTANNI SHAFER (Brittanni) is a first year Theatre Education major and is thrilled to be making her IU Southeast Theatre Debut. She previously performed in main stage and studio series shows at Jeffersonville High School. Some of her favorite roles would include Truvy in STEEL MAGNOLIAS, Frankie in CHRISTMAS BELLES, Sarah in GOD’S FAVORITE, and Yente in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. JOHN SHIREMAN (John / Drums, Guitar) once went skydiving after pulling an “all-nighter” studying for a biology exam. Both endeavours proved less than fruitful. As a founding member of Southern Indiana’s “The Rumors” he was the band’s drummer for over 5 years. John has played music in all sorts of dubious establishments and is now delighted to be in such an orderly environment. When John’s not busy fulfilling his duties as General Manager of Uhaul Truck Sales, he dreams of owning an exotic popcorn shop with his son Fred. This is John’s 3rd production with Jim Hesselman and Josh Graf. CATHERINE VANCE (Catherine) is a senior here at Indiana University Southeast. Catherine has been in several productions at IUS. Her roles include the Little Nun in THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES, Julia Leverett in LEND ME A TENOR, and Clelia Waldgrave in THE NERD. She is very excited to be a part of this wonderful cast of GODSPELL, her experience and friendships will be invaluable! “To EVERYONE who helped to build, design, and manage this show... ‘You are AMAZING! Thank you for everything that you do that makes this show work and move!!’ Thanks to Jim Hesselman who pushes everyone around him to do and be better.” “To my parents, thank you for being patient with me and allowing me to make my own choices. I love you! To my sisters, Laura, Angela, and Caroline, thanks for being my sisters and making me laugh a lot, I love you!!!” “You will see your teacher with your own eyes. Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether to the right or to the left.” Isaiah 30:20-21 Thank you Abba! GABRIEL VANOVER (John/Judas) is excited to make his Indiana University Southeast debut with GODSPELL. Gabe is a 2007 graduate of Scottsburg High School, in which he was the recipient of the Philip S. Gilmore award for service in music. Vanover previously attended Vincennes University where he was a Reed Scholar in music (instrumental and vocal) and theatre. While at Vincennes he was seen in the main stage shows for two seasons, including favorite shows: A SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS (Pantalone), the Manhattan Project’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND (the White Queen), and THE DIVINERS (Ferris
Layman). While at Vincennes he also designed multiple sets for shows including LES MISERABALES and THE DIVINERS. Vanover’s involvement with the music department at Vincennes was just as strong, including being a member of the concert band, brass ensemble, concert choir, show choir, and VU’s opera workshop which premiered it’s operetta TALL TALES AND FABLES in the spring of 2009, in which he played the Prince. He is a Rasmussen Scholar in both music and theatre for the 2009-2010 academic year. Gabe would like to thank his parents, family and friends for the constant support (including financial!) and for always being the first ones at the box office and to his fellow cast members, directors, designers and crew for truly making this a memorable experience. Other professional experience include extensive volunteering in the deaf community as an ASL interpreter and working to teaching music and theatre at local charter schools. REBECCA WORTHINGTON (Rebecca) is a sophomore at IU Southeast, majoring in psychology and minoring in theatre. She has been involved with theatre since she was in the second grade when she performed in her first show, THE MUSIC MAN. Rebecca has been in a number of productions since then here in Southern Indiana such as JOSEPH . . . DREAMCOAT and GREASE for Riverstage in Jeffersonville, and multiple productions at Parkview Middle School and Jeffersonville High School. TABOR YOUNGS (Tabor) is currently a freshman at IU Southeast and is hoping to get her degree in Music and Theatre. This is Tabor’s second time on the IUS stage. Taylor says, “I would like to thank my family who has always stood behind me, and have come to everything I have been in, from swim meets to ballet recitals. Also, to my friends, who I can always turn to when I am feeling down, who have been through many plays and musicals with me, joking behind the set. And to Evan; you support me more than any other person in the world, you are what keeps me going when I don’t know if I can make it. Thank you to all the people in my life who have always been there. Enjoy the show.” TYLER P. YOUNGS (Jesus) is a Junior at IU Southeast majoring in Psychology with a minor in Physics. This is his first play (if you don’t count playing the Mad Hatter in a grade school production of ALICE IN WONDERLAND), and he is very excited to play the part of the world’s greatest superstar. Thanks to all who supported me - especially my sister, who helped me beyond expectation.

Director’s Note Satire: The use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice or folly. URINETOWN THE MUSICAL was originally scheduled to open on Broadway on September 13th, 2001. It eventually opened on September 20th, winning Tony Awards for best Book, Score, and Direction of a Musical. This show is categorized as a satire (see above). In 1978, if I had described to my grandmother a world where they sold bottled water (much less, bottled water which you paid $4.00 for at the movie theatre), a world where there are nuclear disasters every decade resulting in less and less shock and awe each time they occur, a world in which (an almost invisible) war has lasted for as long as the Civil War, WWI & WWII combined, a world where . . . (those of you over 50 fill in your own incredulity), she would have said, “Well, that’s just silly.” A world where the people live in a police state and a severe water shortage has forced them to pay to pee? That’s just silly. And Soylent Green is PEOPLE!

Cast and Crew Bios CHRISTINA ANN ATKINS (Little Becky Two-Shoes) Christina is making her debut in URINETOWN. She has worked on the sets of THE FANTASTICKS and WAITING FOR GODOT here in IU Southeast and is excited about expanding her theatre experience onstage. She would like to thank God for giving her a wonderful, supportive family. JOCELEN BARNETT (Penelope Pennywise) Jocelen is currently a senior at IU Southeast and is planning to graduate with a BA in Communications/Theatre this Spring. She recently completed at Wig/Make up internship with the Des Moines Metro Opera and worked with the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival’s production of HAMLET as their hairstylist and wardrobe crew member. She plans to pursue a career in wig ventilating/styling, make up artistry, and costuming after earning her degree. She would like to thank her family, friends, cast, crew & Baby Violet for all their love and support. And audiences like you, thank you! DAVID BEACH (Officer Lockstock) was a Theatre major but in an attempt at method acting has switched his major to Criminal Justice. He now spends his free time practicing the Miranda Rights and switching between being the good and bad cop (former theatre experience has helped him greatly in this). Now you may see him on late-night stakeouts, although it is more likely that you have seen him on stage at IU Southeast in THE MOUSETRAP or WAITING FOR GODOT. He would like to thank his friends and family, his mother in particular, as well as the fully supportive theatre department staff. He would also like to remind you that it is against the law to yell “FIRE,” talk, cough, think, or feel during the performance — and that all violators WILL be sent to URINETOWN. CLAYTON BLISS (Robby The Stockfish) is thrilled to be in his first production at IU Southeast to perform in URINETOWN! Clayton’s recent theatre credits include PETER PAN where he played John(Providence High School), WILLY WONKA where he played an OompaLoompa (Stage One), BEAUTY AND THE BEAST where he played Beast (Providence High School) and his most recent credit this past summer in JOSEPH (Stage One). Clayton would like to give a huge thanks to his director Jim Hesselman for being the incredible director that he is, and to Debbie King Raque for helping make us sound so wonderful. Clayton would also like to thank his family and friends for all their support. JESSE BROWN (McQueen) welcomes you to URINETOWN – the musical, not the place – and sincerely hopes you brought enough cash to satisfy all of your urinary needs. You may recognize Jesse from last season’s productions of THE FANTASTICKS (Bellomy) and WAITING FOR GODOT (Estragon). Then again, you might not. It’s okay, he’s bad at remembering names and faces too. He’d like to dedicate this performance to his long-time buddy and line coach, Cagney Lea. You’ll be missed, pup.

DAMN YANKEES premiered on Broadway in 1955 and won the Tony Award® for Best Musical. It has music by Richard Adler and lyrics by Jerry Ross. This was the same team who wrote THE PAJAMA GAME, the show which had won the Best Musical just the year before. Tragically, lyricist Jerry Ross died at the age of 29 a few months after DAMN YANKEES opened. These two shows were the beginning and the end of what should have been a spectacular career in the musical theatre. Thinking about such promise makes me nostalgic; not just for what “could” have been, but for what actually was. A time of a bit more innocence and of true believers. Look at all that professional baseball has gone through in the last couple of years. Look at where our politics have taken us in the last couple of years. Do I think that there was no cheating in sports in 1955 and that our political leaders back then always had our best interests at heart? No. But do I think that we had more heroes (flesh and blood heroes, not the IRON MAN sort), and that we trusted people a little bit more? Yes. This show is based on the German legend of Faust, a character who sells his soul to the devil in order to satisfy his selfish needs. The difference here is that Joe Hardy sells his soul in order to be able to perform a task that he truly believes to be good. To me, win or lose, that intention creates a hero we can cheer for. That’s all I want — I want heroes we can cheer for. ******* We dedicate this show to a great lady of the theatre who originated the role of Sister in the original Broadway Production of DAMN YANKEES, Jean Stapleton. Before Ms. Stapleton went on to universal fame for her portrayal of Edith Bunker she made her mark originating small character roles in musicals such as BELLS ARE RINGING and FUNNY GIRL. She continued to work in the theatre her whole life and performed onstage well into her 80’s. She passed away at the age of 90 in June of this year, but her career and her positive outlook on life will continue to be an inspiration to all performers, always.

Cast and Crew
Bios1
JOSHUA ATKINS (Mark/Bouley) Joshua Atkins has never been involved in a theater production before. His similar experience is largely in singing. He has been singing in choirs for about 12 years. He plays the flute, and has some band experience. Although Josh hasn’t given acting much thought, he is grateful to his sister-in-law Christina Atkins for coaxing him to audition, and he looks forward to his small part in DAMN YANKEES. SAMUEL ATKINS (Henry/Husband) Sam Atkins is excited to be making his musical debut as the role of Henry/Husband in DAMN YANKEES. Twenty-three and finished with college, Sam is currently working full-time in the restaurant industry while pursuing his biggest passion: singing. Having a limited theater background, Sam’s biggest previous role was Bert in IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE. He is extremely grateful for all who are involved with this production: including the director, the cast, the crew, and the entire IU Southeast Theater Department. CLAYTON BLISS (Rocky) Clayton is a junior at IU Southeast, and is thrilled to be returning to the IUS Theatre stage for this production of DAMN YANKEES! Regional credits include John in PETER PAN (Providence High School), Beast in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Providence High School), Ishmaelite/ Ensemble in JOSEPH (Stage One), and Robby the Stockfish in URINETOWN (IU Southeast). Clayton would like to thank his incredible director Jim Hesselman, for everything that he does for the IUS Theatre Department as well as his perpetual guidance and love to all of his students. Clayton would also like to give a huge thanks to his family and friends as well as his fellow cast mates for making this experience such a delight. Enjoy the show!!! JESSE BROWN (Van Buren) Jesse Brown is excited to tread the boards on the Robinson Stage once more. Finishing his final year on his master’s degree in Liberal Studies, he is always honored that the Theatre Department lets him hang around the green room in his spare time. You may recognize Jesse from last year’s IUS productions of URINETOWN (Mr. McQueen) and HAMLET (Ghost of
Hamlet’s Father & Player King). Other favorite IUS roles include Estragon (WAITING FOR GODOT), Bellomy (THE FANTASTICKS), and Peter (COMPANY). You may also recognize him from his full-time role around campus (Curmudgeon in Plaid). Jesse is so glad you came to see the show; he’s proud of you for reading the bios — it shows what a sophisticated theatregoer you are — and sincerely hopes you enjoy the performance. Special thanks to his immensely supportive family and his slightly-less-supportive-thanfamily-but-still-pretty-awesome friends. GABRIEL BUSH (Mickey/Hearn) Gabriel is a first year undergrad at IU Southeast with a communications-theatre major. He attended Corydon Central High School until the end of October, 2012. He then transferred to Charlestown High School, where he graduated and received his honors diploma. Gabriel had always been surrounded by theatre through his mother and classmates, but did not decide to join a production until the spring of his sophomore year. He earned the lead role in Corydon Central’s production of THE PAPER BAG BANDIT RIDES AGAIN. He went on to play Oliver Warbucks in Corydon’s production of ANNIE, Professor in Hayeswood Theater’s SOUTH PACIFIC, and the Dwarf in Charlestown’s THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE. He also worked in the tech crew for Charlestown’s GODSPELL. Gabriel hopes to keep building on his acting skills so that someday he can fulfill his dream of being a successful Hollywood actor. “It’s a big dream and it’ll take a lot of hard work, but I know I will make it happen.” DEANNA COLLINS (Doris) DeAnna Collins is delighted to be back on the stage as Doris for this production of DAMN YANKEES. She has been in two previous productions at Indiana University Southeast which included URINETOWN in which she was a chorus member and HAMLET in which she played Rosencrantz. She would like to thank all of the cast members, crew, stage management, and production staff for helping her be the best that she can be and for all of their positive encouragement. The blessings she has received are insurmountable, and she is
grateful for how much she has learned and excited for all that is yet to come. With that, she hopes that you enjoy the show! ELIZA DONAHUE (Lola) Eliza is very happy to be a part of this great show and wants to thank a very supportive cast and crew. This is her second production at IU Southeast, having played the role of Ophelia in last semester’s production of HAMLET. She loves to sing, dance, and act. She has been in productions with Music Theatre of Louisville, Riverstage Clarksville Little Theatre, and most recently, at Our Lady of Providence where she attended high school. She’d like to thank her friends, family, God, and her son for being so supportive and helping her to achieve her dreams. MITCH DONAHUE (Smokey/Fan) Mitch is very excited to be returning to the Robinson stage in DAMN YANKEES. He was last seen in BOY MEETS BOY (Guy) with Pandora Productions and LEGALLY BLONDE (Emmett) at JCC this summer. You may have seen him at IU Southeast in such roles as Hamlet (HAMLET), Bobby Strong (URINETOWN), Vladimir (WAITING FOR GODOT), and Matt (FANTASTICKS). Mitch would like to thank everyone in his life for their “heart” and support. You’re welcome to laugh, welcome to cry, welcome to DAMN YANKEES! MARINA HART (Gloria) Marina is absolutely thrilled to be a part of the company that is DAMN YANKEES. This marks her first performance in the IU Southeast Theatre Department. She recently graduated for Floyd Central HS where she performed as Millie Dillmount in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, Helen Keller in THE MIRACLE WORKER, Day By Day song in GODSPELL, Little Sally in URINETOWN, among others. She’d like to thank her amazing family and friends for their constant support, as well as this killer cast/crew (and the stellar Jim Hesselman) for welcoming her into the family. She wouldn’t want to report for any other team. Go Senators! BETH HAMMOND (Housewife/Fan) Beth is very thankful to be back on the Robinson Stage, and very thankful to have you here. You may have seen her last year as the Second Gravedigger in HAMLET or as Dora Strang in EQUUS. She has also performed as Helena in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, Lucy in YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN, and Aunt March in LITTLE WOMEN. Special
thanks to her family, who are getting increasingly used to her odd working hours. ZACHARY ADAM HEBERT (Applegate) Zachary is excited to be making his IU Southeast debut as Applegate in DAMN YANKEES. After graduating from Floyd Central High School in 2012, Zach went to the University of South Dakota to study musical theatre and recently moved home to continue his theatre training. Favorite past credits include Jeff in BRIGADOON, Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL THE MUSICAL, and Jamie in THE LAST FIVE YEARS. Zach would like to thank the wonderful people at IUS for welcoming him so warmly into the program. Enjoy the show! CODY KING (Young Joe) Cody is thrilled to be performing alongside such a talented cast and crew. This is Cody’s second year on the IU Southeast Theatre Department stage. He was most recently seen in URINETOWN as Senator Fipp and HAMLET as Laertes. From the Director As far as I know, human beings are the only animals on the planet that put drapes on the windows. Did this practice come about strictly for aesthetic reasons, or was it necessary in order to keep people from seeing the embarrassing way we behave when we are alone? You may ponder that question as you watch the two couples in this play deal (or not deal) with an altercation which occurred between their two grade school aged sons. Technology has changed so rapidly in the past couple of decades (I had to update my computer three times just while writing this note), that the pace of it tends to make the sophistication of the human race seem almost limitless. But even before this wondrous age, while we were still sharpening rocks and drawing on the walls, I imagine the level of human sophistication still rose a little bit higher than the hamster and the Neanderthals the characters refer to in this production. In fact, almost as soon as we had enough food to eat and secure shelter, I would guess that human beings began formulating a list of rules and customs (along with making drapes) which altered, guided, and refined our interaction with one another. The question is, what were/are we underneath? What instincts and urges have we been putting a lid on since we began to walk upright? (Creationists will please excuse this reference.) And are there consequences to ignoring our baser instincts? Do layers and layers of facade eventually add up to nothing but more facade? Have we forgotten the reasons for the social customs in the first place? And if we didn’t have drapes, would we behave any better?
