SEYMOUR “PERSON OF THE YEAR” LION BUDDY GREENE

Photo courtesy Seymour Area Chamber of Commerce Congratulations to Tri-County Lion member HR “Buddy” Greene on his selection of Person of the Year by the Seymour Area Chamber of Commerce at their Annual Banquet and General Membership Meeting on March 27 th. Chamber Chairwomen Rebekah Hill and Nancy Rickenbach presented Greene with the honor after speaking extensively of his outstanding service to the community. “The difficulty in presenting this award is that because we received such an outpouring of support for this candidate, we could speak about him, his character, his good deeds, and how beloved he is in our community all night,” said Hill. “Our recipient is a wonderful example of a hardworking, caring, dedicated leader that (continued page 2)

(continued from page 1) has focused his efforts on meeting the needs of others in the Seymour community.” Among many reasons cited for his being chosen was Greene’s work with CROSS, Christians Reaching Out Serving Seymour, where he served as President for 3 years and where he can be found almost every day helping others. His work through his church was also cited, particularly that he started and teaches Grief Share, a support group for people who have lost loved ones. Greene was also commended for past volunteer work in the Pioneer’s Club which works with the blind, for having served on the board of the Lion’s Volunteer Blind Industries in Morristown, TN, which provides rehabilitation and employment for the blind, and for his active service in the Lion’s Club that meets here in Seymour. It was also mentioned that not only is Greene an active member of the Friends of the Seymour Library, he in fact helped to organize the group and serves on the Executive Board. Among other acts of services cited include driving a van for the Shriners, transporting kids to hospitals in Cincinnati, Lexington, and Greenville, SC. In receiving the honor Greene gave thanks to many in the community who support the various organizations that seek to help others. He encouraged others to find their passion and become active in giving back. “You get a blessing when you give and know that you’ve helped others,” he said. In the Tri-County Lions Club, we also know Lion Buddy as an ardent Lady Vol supporter, currently a “teller of tall tales” and general funny Buddy's cooking up something. man as Club Tailtwister, past president, and dedicated humanitarian, having been named the recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellow award, the highest award of Lions Clubs International Foundation. Congratulations, Lion Buddy! We Lions are very proud of you and your accomplishments both inside and outside the Club! IT'S TIME FOR A [ 9-INNING ] VACATION:

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME Reservations have been made for the annual family-friendly event June 8, for 20 persons (minimum). Tickets are $27 per person (adult) and that includes the game, dinner at Calhouns at the Yard, and a souvenir ballcap; as in the past, if paying by check, please make your check payable to Ken Moffett to ensure your entry to the Smokies Stadium the evening of the game. We will be collecting money for tickets at the meeting April 27 and thereafter leading up to the event.

LIONS ACCOMPLISH LITTER REMOVAL PROJECT Thanks to the Lions and a family member who cleaned up Chilhowee School Road early on the morning of April 11. Lion Joyce Wooliver actually found some cash, and it was reported she may be “laundering” money (but only to clean the mud off it, of course). We've all heard accounts of people “throwing money away”, but we didn't think the phrase was meant to be taken literally. Never know what will be found during a highway cleanup activity!
