Eye Bank Director Tells Agency Highlights, Answers Questions Lions Club President Ray Valentine introduced Valerie Stewart, Executive Director of the East Tennessee Lions Eye Bank, at the February 9 meeting. Lion Ray has not only served on the Board of Directors of the Eye Bank, but has been the recipient of corneal transplants. Last year, the Eye Bank provided corneal tissue for 700 transplants! Eye Bank FAQs: How long has the agency been in operation? The Eye Bank began in 1964, and is located at the University of Tennessee Hospital. Does it cost to donate eye tissue? There is no cost for donation, and every gift is made anonymously. How soon must a donation be made? The donation occurs within 21 hours of death. What about the old Eye Donor Cards? Tennessee law made the cards irrelevant; now the wish to donate is indicated on an individual's drivers license. While the waiting list for corneal tissue currently numbers 45, she noted the waiting time to receive tissue is usually just a matter of days, due to the work of the eye bank staff. The local eye bank is recognized as one of the best in the world.

In other words, it should look good in a desktop browser, on a tablet, or on a smartphone. Check it out, and let us know what you think. So far we have received good feedback from a club in Mexico. We want your local feedback as well. In a somewhat related development, Lions Clubs International announced their new responsive website (for the English language website) on February 13.
