MILITARY FRIENDLY

Kennesaw State has been heralded as a “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs Magazine and “Best for Vets” by Military Times. We recognize the veterans and military men and women striving to receive their education. The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) helps smooth the transition from a past military lifestyle to a university environment. The VRC maintains and distributes information about local military support and VA facilities, as well as offers a multitude of resources for military veterans, spouses and their dependents.

Atlanta is a dynamic metropolitan center full of vast opportunities and offers an invaluable part of the Kennesaw State experience. You can swim with sharks at the Georgia Aquarium or sample soda from all over the planet at the World of Coca-Cola. Concerts from renowned artists and exquisite art exhibits are in abundance. Bonus: Being this close to Atlanta allows students to commute back and forth for internships and co-ops.

Think you know how college food is supposed to taste? Here’s a hint: We don’t open a can and pour it on your plate for lunch. Our student dining hall, The Commons, is ranked #4 in the country for most delicious college food. We tantalize your taste buds by serving up nine unique culinary experiences that change on a daily basis. Add that to multiple hydroponics and three farms off campus growing a wide array of vegetables and herbs, and you have a recipe that is both nutritious and positively delectable.

COMPASS Testing COMPASS is a comprehensive, untimed, computerized exam used to evaluate student’s skills in math, reading, and writing for the purpose of placement. If required to take the COMPASS test, please log on to Owl Express at http://owlexpress.kennesaw.edu to sign up. COMPASS testing is an admission requirement and must be complete in order to receive an admissions decision. Students must achieve qualifying scores to be admitted. For more information about the COMPASS test, please visit http://sss.kennesaw.edu/testing/compass.php.

MILITARY TRANSFER CREDIT POLICY Military Transfer Credit may be awarded for undergraduate students accepted to Kennesaw State University who have served in the U.S. military and who desire to have their military training and experience considered for transfer credit. Students may have the option of accepting or declining up to 12 semester hours of undergraduate elective transfer credits towards a degree program, if applicable. Veterans of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps must submit official JST transcripts and the Military Transfer Credit Agreement Form to the Office of the Registrar Graduation, Audit, Transfer, and Evaluation Services (G.A.T.E.S.) prior to the last day of drop/add during the student’s first term of enrollment at KSU. VA EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS After applying for admission to Kennesaw State University, students should complete the Veterans Enrollment Data Sheet available online through the registrar’s website at http://registrar.kennesaw.edu/veterans/educational_ benefits.php. This form is to be completed and returned to the VA Certifying Official in the Office of the Registrar. At a minimum, a certificate of eligibility from the VA must accompany the Veterans Enrollment Data Sheet. You will be notified if any other paperwork is required for your specific educational benefit. Application for VA Benefits must be completed through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The VONAPP can be completed by visiting www.vabenefits.vba.va.gov. First Time KSU Applicants: • Complete FORM 1990 if you have never used your education benefits before • Restarting or changing training sites? LIVING ON CAMPUS The secret is out that living on campus in your first year improves your likelihood for success in college and beyond. Students who live on campus will tell you – and research supports – that the benefits really add up. Living on campus makes it easier to meet people, helps you transition from high school to college, and can actually help you achieve academic success and graduate on time. Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for Post 9/11 GI Bill is $1,326 for every full month a student is enrolled at KSU.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Tuition and Fee Waivers Tuition and fee waivers are available and may be granted to individuals who meet certain eligibility criteria. To determine your eligibility, please contact the Tuition Classification Officer at (470) 578-3251. HERO Scholarship HERO Scholarship applicants must meet Student Fee Waiver criteria and submit the application and DD-214 each semester to Financial Aid. Orientation Fee Reimbursement Reimbursement for Ignition, our student orientation, is available for veterans and service members if paid online and requested within 30 days. Students must attend the Ignition session to be reimbursed.

Veterans Housing Block Kennesaw State University offers a 16-room Veterans Housing Block with units specifically designated for veterans, including a monthly payment plan developed to coincide with the monthly stipend of GI Bill. More information can be found by calling University Housing at (470) 578-4388 for current residence rates. Yellow Ribbon Program Kennesaw State is a participant of the Yellow Ribbon program. All applications should be submitted to the Veterans Resource Center.
