CAPTAIN’S COLUMN
AVAILABLE TO SPONSOR ALIX WILKINSON Our game this weekend against CelJc In The league cup will be a good challenging game for us. Throughout the week the team have been working hard on the lead up to this game. I believe the team has improved over the past few games and we just got to keep the hard work going. If we do the simple stuff, win our own baUles and play our game I think we will get the result we are hoping for. If it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you! Alix Wilkinson

ast week in the ScoWsh Women's Division 1 curtain opener we welcomed L CelJc Academy to Meggetland. AMer a producJve summer with some exciJng acquisiJons, Thistle fancied an upset coming into this fixture against last seasons league runners up. Boroughmuir started the game compeJng well against the talented CelJc side, however it was the away side that opened the scoring, and what a goal it was! From a Hoops throw-in the ball was dispossessed from Kirsty Maden where it fell to Holly Winds who layed the ball outside the area for Kate Nicolson who struck a fantasJc finesse shot from around 30-yards, beaJng the young Stella Paton who had no chance with the effort. Thistle responded well and gradually began to work themselves back into the game building pressure onto the CelJc backline. A deep free kick from Addie Handley was floated into debutant Debbie To who’s first touch across the defender was placed onto the onrushing Robin Gallagher who drove into the box and showed great composure to place it passed the keeper to equalise. A well worked move from the team!
Unfortunately the wind was quickly knocked out of Thistle’s sails, with CelJc responding well with an instant reply to go 2-1 up. A ball back to the away keeper was cleared into the centre of the park with a flick on falling into Emma Craig behind the Thistle defence allowing her Jme to place the ball past Stella Paton with the one on one. AMer this the first half trickled out with Boroughmuir coming the closet between the two sides. The second half began similar to the first nothing separaJng the two sides. Although CelJc were again the next team to capiJlise, with this Jme from a corner kick. An in swinging kick from Tegan Bowie reached Emily Shearer who scored from the centre of the penalty area. The introducJon of top goal scorer Sam Duncan breathed new life into the home team and her audacious chip from a pinpoint through pass from Fiona Gibson looked desJned for the net if not for a wonder save from the Hoops keeper Lisa Kerr. CelJc secured the win against the run of play when an intercepted pass from Monica Forsyth from Paton was played to Megan Wands who scored a pinpoint effort outside the area on her leM foot. Full Jme 1-4.

Sam was nominated for Division One South player of the season and when she is not running defenses ragged Sam works as a chef at Three Little Birds restaurant in Edinburgh. Q: Firstly Sam, When did you sign for Boroughmuir Thistle and how did it come about? I signed for the club 5/6 years ago, an old school friend got me back into footy, and I’ve never looked back since. Q: Tell us about your football career so far? My claims to fame are playing at Hampden and Tynecastle in school, winning the second division with thistle and geWng over 100 goals for the club. Q: What’s it like to play for thistle every week It’s always exciJng and never easy, but nothing worth having is ever easy! The hard work and determinaJon from the girls keeps me going. Q: Who is the best trainer in the team? Tough quesJon, everyone has upped their training in order to fight for the place in the squad compeJJon is fierce this season!
The interview
Q: Who is the worst trainer in the team? Probably me as I’m always working, but I make up for it in effort. Q: What is your preferred posiMon? I think the only posiJon I can play is up top, not a convenJonal striker, but the never say die aWtude does pay off for me.. someJmes Q: What is the best feature about your game? My pace and ability to run at defenders, and how much I love scoring goals especially the winning ones Q: What is the worst feature about your game? I can’t defend very well! Q: What is your proudest moment in football so far? Coming of the bench aMer half Jme and scoring a haUrick to beat our biggest rivals at the Jme hearts, was very saJsfying! Or geWng a late winner always ranks high on my list! Q: Most embarrassing moment in football if you care to share? GeWng a bit hot headed and being red carded (a thing of the past) Q: Favourite pre match meal? Usually have some porridge/ cereal and a couple of strong coffees, to get my energy up!
