SUZY SHEPHERD
Welcome along to Meggetland for what I’m sure will be another challenging game for us. Celtic are one of the best teams in this league, they are a very good young team with a lot of talented players who can hurt us when given the chance. We need to take our defensive performance from the last few weeks into this game along with the quality we showed in possession last week. From what I’ve seen from training I’m confident we can be up for the occasion! I hope you enjoy the game, Suzy Shepherd

AVAILABLE TO SPONSOR ALIX WILKINSON Today in our fixture against Celtic will be one of the harder games that we have left. Throughout the week the squad have all been working hard on the lead up to this through training. I believe the team have improved over the past few games and got to just keep doing the simple things. Additionally we need to win all our individual battles and that will hopefully stand us in good stead and see us match a really strong side today. The atmosphere in the dressing has been excellent and were really looking forward to the challenge! Alix Wilkinson

The scoring was opened after just eight minutes when Hannah Markley crossed into the box after some good work on the right wing. Her cross was met by Samantha Duncan who crashed a shot in off the underside of the bar. It was 2-0 five minutes later, when Ashleigh Clark kept the ball in play and found captain Alix Hogg Wilkinson six yards out. Wilkinson knocked the ball past the despairing Hannah Dean to double the visitors’ lead. Less than a minute later it was 3-0, when Falkirk defender Connie Smith was dispossessed by Robin Gallagher, who rounded Dean and slotted the ball into the net. Gallagher had her second, and Boroughmuir’s fourth with 17 minutes gone, when a long ball beat Falkirk’s offside trap. Gallagher beat the onrushing Dean to the ball before taking it round her once again and squeezing it into the net. Only two minutes later, Borougmuir had a fifth when Duncan proved too strong for the Falkirk defence and squared the ball to Helen Templeton, who tapped it into the empty net. It was constant pressure at this point, and Borough should have been further ahead with 23 minutes gone when Gallagher showed some excellent skill on the right before laying it to Markley, who somehow managed to skew her shot wide. A minute later though, the visitors had their sixth when Duncan broke from her own half and slotted past Dean in a one-on-one situation. Falkirk did manage to stem the tide for a time, and were getting some payoff from playing a high line and catching Borough offside with alarming frequency. Some of the decisions looked borderline at best, but without the benefit of assistants, the referee’s job was difficult in that respect. Falkirk managed to get themselves on the score sheet with 38 minutes gone, when Borough keeper Megane Steel badly sclaffed a clearance and allowed Rebecca Reid in to roll the ball into the empty net. A minute later though, Borough restored their six goal cushion, when Templeton’s shot from the edge of the box proved too powerful for Dean and almost went right through the keeper on it’s way in. With three minutes until the break, Smith headed Markley’s shot off the line to prevent any further damage, but it only delayed what seemed to be the inevitable for around 45 seconds.

Borough finally sprung the Falkirk offside trap and Gallagher pounced with a beautiful lofted shot over the head of Dean for her hat-trick. Not to be out done, Duncan had her own hat trick a minute or so later, when Falkirk’s high line was breached again, allowing the Borough forward to break free and slip a shot under Dean to make it 9-1 at the break. Falkirk started the second half strongly and it was evident that they didn’t want a repeat performance as they came out far more composed and competitive. Bethany Adamson stung the hands of Steel in 49 minutes from the edge of the box, but it was still Borough who were creating the more clear cut chances, despite massive improvement from Falkirk. The game looked to be fizzling out, but with the hosts tiring, Borough once again turned up the heat in the final fifteen minutes. With 76 minutes gone, Gallagher did well to time her run to beat the offside trap and cut the ball back from the byline into the path of Duncan, who scored her fourth of the game with a powerful strike in off the underside of the bar. The roles were reversed six minutes later, when Duncan pounced on a defensive error and knocked the ball to Gallagher who rolled the ball into the net to grab her fourth. As the game entered it’s final minute, Templeton became the third Borough player to score a hat trick when she latched onto a long ball into the box, and despite looking initially like she had taken too long, managed to squeeze the ball past Dean one final time. A comprehensive victory for Borough, who continue their excellent form of late. Admission: Free Match Report: Craig Thomson Attendance: 41 (+1 dog) Pies On The Terraces

Despite being unable to achieve promotion Celtic Academy are the current SWFL Division One South league leaders having gained 40 points and a whopping 50+ goal difference in their 14 games played so far. The remainder of this season should prove an exciting contest with Celtic being closely followed by league rivals Hibernian 23s, whom currently hold 37points, a positive 54 goal difference and a game in hand. With Celtic’s Academy proving to become one of the hot spots for youth development within Scottish Football, their current squad show vast potential with key members; Rebecca McAllister, Chloe Warrington and Paige McAllister all involved with the national 17s squad in their recent 1-1 draw against Portugal. The previous fixture between the two teams, was the league curtain raiser in which Celtic won a closely fought contest 2-0. However todays match should show an exciting match with both teams coming into the game on the back of great form.

HM: I always go for a “Smoky Joe” Pizza from Asda, chorizo, red onion and chicken. I highly recommended! Q: Favorite Pre Match Song Choice HM: I like some sort of Disco House Techno type music, better ask Hannah MacLeod as she always seems to find them

THE INTERVIEW
Q: Which leads me to my next question, what do you guys play pre match at Thistle HM: Dibz (Helen Templeton) is actually in charge of the music. From trance to greatest showman, she can keep it interesting… Q: What's the best goal you’ve scored in football? HM: Has to be the last minute goal verses Abertay from the halfway line to win the game 2-1. Voted goal of the season for that year also! Would take some beating. Q: What's your highlight for Boroughmuir Thistle HM: Apart fro our current run, I would have to say the equaliser I scored against Celtic last season. Hopefully a repeat today! Q: Who would you say is the joker in the dressing room HM: Sam Duncan Q: Best and Worst Trainers HM: Alix Wilkinson & Katie Almond I’ll let you guess which is which. Q: Choice of boots HM: I used to love the old Adidas Predators, shame they don’t make them anymore Q: Best player you’ve played alongside? HM: Rachel McLaughlin midfielder at Ross County, now plays for Hibs Ladies and Scotland, all rounder and well ahead of the rest at the time!

THE INTERVIEW
Q: Player of the season so far HM: I think most people will say and the obvious choice will be Sam Duncan and the amount of goals she has scored has been unbelievable. But I feel more appreciation should go towards Kim Goodchild for her fantastic defensive displays all season. Defenders can often be overlooked and Kim has been a rock this season! Who has been your role model as a footballer? HM: Steven Gerrard, I tried to replicate hs style, to limited success some would say! But as a Rangers fan I delighted to watch him in Scotland every week now. Q: What team do you support and why? HM: My dads a Leicester fan and was probably the only one before they won the league in 2016. I went to a lot of their games when I was younger. Funnily enough it was the happiest day of my dads life when they did win it. I don’t know how I should feel about that‌
