Paul Stankard Few relationships have been as rewarding for the Directors of this Gallery than our friendship with Paul Stankard. From our first visits to his studio, which always included meditative walks through his wooded property, we were charmed and captivated by the artist and his work. Working closely with one of the greatest artists this country has ever produced has its intoxicating moments. Unwrapping a package containing new works from this master fills us with anticipation and wonderment; each work is so brilliant and captivating. Mounting this show and producing this exhibition catalogue is exceptionally rewarding. Collectors and curators throughout the world await a glimpse of the artist’s latest efforts.

If mastery of technique and medium were the only yardstick with which to measure Paul’s impact on glass working, this artist would certainly be a giant among his peers however his involvement and commitment has always gone so much further. As a teacher, mentor and even collector Paul has distinguished himself with his generosity. Constantly traveling to demonstrations, seminars and exhibitions the artist has given selflessly to foster the growth of the Studio Glass Movement. Paul’s calm self-effacing charm is a delight to those who know him and a revelation to those who meet him. Once again Paul brings to the gallery an absolutely intoxicating body of new work. For the next month the gallery will be filled with the sounds delight and discovery. Paul’s work incites a quite vocal response especially from the uninitiated who literally cannot believe their eyes. An exhibition of Pauls work brings out the newspapers and television stations to say nothing of the collectors and aficionados. Finally our partnership with the artist is renewed, as is the joy of our close, lifelong involvement with this movement. Bonnie Marx and Ken Saunders •6•
