Message from the Chair of the Board

Dear Kent Place Community,

The 2021–2022 academic year closed with a renewed sense of purpose and great optimism for the future, thanks in no small measure to record-breaking support from our donors. Your generosity enables us to continue to provide an extraordinary education to our brave and brilliant students. Today’s students build an ethical framework to engage with the world. Dedicated teachers and staff equip each with the ability to think critically, coalesce ideas, and lead with confidence. Our students are prepared for a future we can now only imagine.

Every year, our community — alumnae, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, Trustees, and friends — makes KPS a philanthropic priority; as a result, the future is brighter for us all. Our mission, Kent Place School empowers girls to be confident, intellectual, and ethical leaders who advance the world, is meant to amplify the voices of our girls and young women, and when those voices are raised, we hear them and we applaud them.

Dear Kent Place Community:

The support you’ve demonstrated to our students has had a tremendous impact on every one of them. I’m beyond grateful for your belief in our mission. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.

I know you share my pride in the curiosity and talents our girls and young women exhibit. Kent Place students are one of a kind in their appetite for intellectual growth and their drive to challenge themselves to dream big dreams. Because of you, they can feed that appetite and pursue those dreams.

Now in my 6th year as the 11th Head of School of this remarkable institution, it’s been a pleasure to meet hundreds of you both on campus and across the country. I learn from your perspectives and your stories — this educator loves being educated!

Your belief in the value of the entire KPS experience means more than I can express. Together, we’ll continue to send our brave and talented students into a bright and beautiful future.

Celebrating Community

On March 9, 2022, Kent Place honored the school’s past, celebrated its present, and inspired investment in its future on Founders Day, our third-annual day of giving. In the span of just 24 hours, the power of the Kent Place community was felt in full force: almost $600,000 was raised from 1,000 gifts, breaking all fundraising records!

Students were welcomed to campus that morning by Chumley the dragon, banners, balloons, music, and special treats, while alumnae, parents, and other supporters across the country took part in fundraising challenges and friendly competitions to help us achieve our goals — and then surpass them.

Founders Day is a vivid demonstration of the community’s commitment to the school’s mission to empower girls to advance the world, and we thank you for your participation and support!

Celebrating Alumnae

ALUMNAE ON THE RISE

Empowering girls to be leaders is central to a Kent Place education. But what happens after graduation, after college?

Those young women go on to become innovators, advocates, and thinkers — leaders in a wide variety of fields. Kent Place has launched trailblazers in law, business, politics, education, medicine, science, and the humanities. Some have been on the forefront of medical breakthroughs; others have been technological wizards; still others have started a company or written a novel.

Though their career paths are varied and their work diverse, what they have in common is that they credit KPS as their springboard.

For the past three years, Kent Place has hosted the Alumnae on the Rise panel, an inspirational conversation with young alumnae who discuss the success they’ve achieved and their aspirations for the future.

“While the featured alumnae followed vastly different paths after graduation,” says Alex, “something was both similar among them and familiar to me: they exuded a special combination of confidence, brilliance, and leadership that seems to be ubiquitous among Kent Place women. It was particularly remarkable how each alumna is making such an impact in her field; each one is advancing the world in her own unique way, yet empowered by the same foundational values, ideals, and skills they garnered at Kent Place. It reminded me of how proud I am to be part of this incredible community.”

Kent Place Fund donors enable the school to provide challenging programs that prepare our newly minted graduates — our alumnae — to build successful careers and lead with strength and empathy. Dr. Jennifer Galambos and Board Chair Anne Grissinger P ’25 welcomed members of the Kent Place Fund’s Leadership Council to a festive reception on October 12, 2022, to thank them for their philanthropic commitment to Kent Place during the 2021–22 academic year. More than 100 guests enjoyed a beautiful fall evening full of gratitude and inspiration, coming together in celebration of their collective generosity to our school.

The evening recognized the importance of the community’s involvement in the Kent Place Fund, which has increased by 53 percent over the last five years, and our appreciation for their investment in the school, to ensure that future generations of brave and brilliant women will reap the benefits of a Kent Place education.

The connection between Kathy (Tuttle) Shepperly ’79 P ’11 and Kent Place didn’t end with her Commencement. She and her husband, David, enrolled their daughter, Paige, in KPS so she could enjoy what two previous generations of Tuttle women had in the way of an outstanding education. And Kathy has been an active member of the community for 40 years.

In addition to supporting the Kent Place Fund, Kathy has decided to give back in a special way: by establishing a bequest with her alma mater as a beneficiary. “It’s very important to me to help keep girls education thriving in this sometimes uncertain world,” she says, “which is why I’ve included Kent Place in my estate plans.”

“I give to Kent Place because it had a pivotal impact on my becoming a confident, well-rounded young woman willing to take risks outside my comfort zone,” says Kathy. “No one ever told me I couldn’t do something I set my mind on. Kent Place gave me the courage to set my goals high and advocate for myself. I wanted nothing more than to

Key Ways of Giving to Kent Place School

All gifts are vital to the support of Kent Place School. The Kent Place Fund supports the operating budget, while special gifts support capital projects and the endowment, among other things. Your gift is a testament to your belief in the school and its mission.

Cash

Cash gifts are deductible for income tax purposes to the full extent allowed by law, and may be made with cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Venmo @KentPlaceSchool. Pledge payments may be arranged.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Ask your employer about matching gift opportunities or visit www.kentplace.org/giving. Many businesses have matching gift programs, which may double or even triple your gift to Kent Place School.

Appreciated Securities

A gift of appreciated securities, stocks, or bonds can provide significant tax savings for the donor. The donor avoids capital gains taxes, and gifts are tax deductible at fair market value.
