2017 Kernock Park Plants
Welcome to Kernock Park Plants “Growing Innovations” 2017 Another year has flown by and I find it scarcely believable that I am writing yet another introduction to our annual catalogue. I am pleased to note that there has been a general air of optimism and confidence in the market and hope this continues into the new season. Last year I mentioned that we were an industry of change with regard to the many mergers and acquisitions. This seems to have continued over the past 12 months, both nationally and internationally throughout the supply chain. We at Kernock Park Plants remain well placed as independent producers of quality ornamental plants, able to react to the changing landscape and pride ourselves in our ability to deal with customers of all sizes. We have continued to invest in our production facilities in an effort to increase efficiency and improve product quality. Following initial trials of LED lights we have established 1600m2 of lighting within our propagation and motherstock areas. We continue to investigate the effects of different lighting intensities and spectral ranges and are currently looking to extend our LED facilities in the coming months. Four years ago I would have said we had finished our expansion potential on this site, but after some consideration and a minor land swap, we are planning to install another 4400 square metres of glasshouse to replace several less efficient polythene structures. We’ve introduced nearly 60 new items onto the catalogue. As always, too many to mention, but watch out for Calendula PowerDaisy™ ‘Sunny’ which is a cold tolerant plant for spring to autumn. There are new selections of Clematis Boulevard® and an orange addition to the Dahlia Dreamy® series with the introduction of Dreamy ‘Flame’. I love the hardy Fuchsia ‘Eruption’ which is Thalia like in leaf, but spills over the pot or basket with tons of magenta-pink flowers. There are several ferns to add to the range including Cheilanthes lanosa and Polystichum rigens. Also note Geranium ‘Foundling’s Friend’, ‘Flame Thrower’ Nasturtiums, Primula Ooh La La and a couple of Thunbergia to whet the appetite! InstaPlant® had another successful year with over 80 carpet bedding displays sent country wide from Antrim to Dover for celebrations including the Queens 90th Birthday, 100 years of the Cubs as well as astronauts, rockets and lots more besides. We look forward to helping you celebrate 2017 with a beautiful InstaPlant® display of your own - contact Chris: instaplant@kernock.co.uk Please do have a good look through our new look catalogue and order form. Asides from the selection of nearly 1200 varieties themselves, you can find lots of other useful information at the front and back of the catalogue and order form. You will notice that there is a handy colour code key on our pull-out section of the cover to help indicate the types of plants shown through the catalogue. Remember that there’s lots more information, growing tips and cultural advice on our website www.kernock.co.uk as well as an up-to-date current surplus list through the year. We are pleased to say that prices are still inclusive of delivery (excluding Highlands and offshore islands) over our minimum order of 10 tray units per single delivery week. We hope you had a great season and thank you for your continued custom into 2017. On the Cover Front: Primula Ooh La La 'Pastel Pink', Back: Petunia 'Daybreak Charm'

New Plants for 2017 For 2017 we are extending our already wide range of plants with around 59 new introductions; all of which have been through rigorous trials around the globe covering hardy and herbaceous perennials, bedding and patio plants. There are some exciting variations to existing popular varieties including the Buddleja ‘Buzz’ assortment with two new colours. There are three new colours appearing in the Begonia ‘Summer Wings’ collection which are great basket fillers and two new additions to the Fuchsia’s range including Fuchsia ‘Hawkshead’; a beautiful dainty variety that are reminiscent of ballerinas' shoes. Kernock Park Plants are also very excited about an intriguing new hardy geranium, ‘Foundling’s Friend’ which is a definite attention grabber with unusual detailing on both the petals and leaves and has already won awards so far this year. Another Salvia will be making a catalogue debut this year, Salvia ‘Amistad’ is similar in habit to the very successful award winning ‘Wish’ series, with vibrant blue/purple flowers. Kernock will also be extending the container season with the introduction of the new Physalis franchetii ‘Gigantea’ which has beautiful orange decorative fruits and lanterns. They go well with Heucheras and make excellent autumnal planting displays.

Unlike many Petunia, they don't bloom in waves, but are continuous. The flowers are as abundant and colourful as Calibrachoa with the larger flower size of Petunia. They stand up to wind and rain without closing up or looking stressed. The colours are incredible. They are stronger than Calibrachoa with great root strength and unlike Petunia are not sticky to touch!

This series of Verbena was selected for their colour range, large flower clusters and their vigorous, robust nature. They have also demonstrated very good mildew tolerance. The first selections are broad-leaved, the next are "bushy", mound-forming and the last are fine-leaved "lace" varieties. The broad-leaved varieties are suited best to container planting due to their upright flowering habit. The fine-leaved varieties, although still upright, are also ideal for container fringes, beds and borders.

2017 Kernock Park Plants
Displays & Carpet Bedding Your ideas are designed, planted and grown on at the nursery and delivered ready for you to install. On delivery, the pre-rooted tiles of plants are simply slid out of their trays onto a pre-prepared bed, transforming the bed into a colourful work of art within hours. The displays can also be used for exhibitions as they are delivered in mobile units. The price of an InstaPlant® carpet bed is approx. £135/m2 plus a £200 design fee.
....You imagine it, we design it, plant it, deliver it, you enjoy it! We also design and produce 3D InstaPlant® displays to order. 3D displays of up to 4 metres high can be produced. Each display is fabricated in steel with an internal irrigation system and is planted-up, grown on and delivered to site.
This art form has previously been limited to specialists, but InstaPlant® gives people who would not normally have attempted to create a decorative bed, the chance to have one produced and delivered to be planted up with ease. All that we require is a drawing or photo to base the design on. We can also provide individual plants for anyone who prefers to plant the display up in the traditional manner. Carpet Bedding is now available to everyone!
