Project Statement Background

Target Audience

Piroshky Piroshky was established in 1992, hoping to bring a taste of Russia to the Pacific Northwest. Blending traditional recipes with local flavor, their selection of piroshkies offers a wide array of choices, both savory and sweet.

Mostly tourists. People visiting the Pike Place Market area can smell the bakery from distance, and when they arrive st the place, they can look at the breads through the window. Because the lines at the bakery are so long, most local people avoid the shop, but they can use the website to locate the new stores and order online.

Traditionally served throughout markets and homes in Eastern Europe, the most simple description of piroshky is that they are hand held pies, and their fillings are as diverse and differing as the cultures and people who make and serve them. That is the beauty of a piroshky - everyone makes it a little different and recipes are passed down from generation to generation. The original bakery is at the Pike Place Market, starting two decades ago the owners decided to embrace and integrate the taste of the Northwest into their own traditional recipes. Recently, they opened another store in Northgate Mall, and soon they will open another one in Downtown Seattle. Their Piroshkies are individually made from scratch and hand molded into their very own unique shapes customers are delighted to find that this makes differentiating between them an easier task.

Objective The objective is to redesign Piroshky Piroshky website to make it more exciting, but still keeping the traditional feel. Goal Piroshky Piroshky is a small local bakery, but they are well-known in the market. The environment and logos are classic and simple, but their website seems out of date. Although the information is all up there, and it’s easy to navigate, the layout and design are not attractive at all, so the goal is to create a more attractive and appealing design for the website.

Competitive Analysis

Le Panier

Macrina Bakery & Cafe

Bakery Nouveau

Le Panier is a small local French bakery store in Pike Place Market. Their website is pretty updated. On the home page, as you scroll down the page, the image at the background will change when you reach the next section. When you reach the bottom of the page, there’s a tap to go to the top of it. Also, on the side, there are circles showing the users which page are they on. They use san serif fonts to keep the modern feel. But on some of sections, they centered the texts and there are also orphans going on. On the contact page, they use a black and white map, which I think it’ll be better to use the color one instead.

Macrina Bakery & Cafe is a Greek bakery. The website goes for an elegant style. Overall, it’s pretty clean and well designed. But the location section on the cafe page, it is not aligned with the others. Also, on the gallery page, the pictures are put together without any gaps in between, it is too overwhelmed for the users’ eyes.

Bakery Nouveau is a French bakery in Seattle. On some of the pages, the texts are a bit small too look at and also not enough space in between, the users might get lost while they are reading it. But one special thing is that there’s site map to show the viewers what they information they have on the website.
