YMCA Summer Day Camp The Kerr County YMCA Summer Day Camp is more than just spending time inside Tally Elementary School, 1840 Goat Creek Road in Kerrville. Greg Peschel, chief operating officer for Kerr County YMCA, said this year, the camp will offer more field trips in its schedule.

Kroc Center Summer Day Camp The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, 201 Holdsworth Drive in Kerrville, offers a summer day camp for ages 5-12. Campers participate in arts and crafts, weekly swimming, as well as character and leadership, spiritual development and recreation programs. • When: 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday for 12 weeks, May 30-Aug. 25 • Cost: $90 weekly fee per child with a $30 registration fee per child, which includes swimming, field trips and meals. There are plenty of opportunities for children to have fun at local libraries while building their reading skills, imaginations and love of learning.

The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library, 505 Water St. in Kerrville, is offering several activities this summer. Summer Reading Program: Build a Better World Calendars of events with specific dates and times will be available in early May at the library and online. Participants may register starting June 1st in person, online at www.

bhmlibrary.org under the summer reading link, or at any summer reading program event. All ages are welcome to register for the program at the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library. Participants do not have to have a library card to participate in the program as the Friends of the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library has provided the funding for the Summer Reading Club. Summer has become a great time for athletes of all ages to improve their skills. High schools across the Hill Country are hosting summer sports camps throughout the season. The camps cover all high school sports and are open to residents of any community. So if you’re looking to be in tip top shape for your upcoming season, check out the list below.

Water safety is important whether people are swimming in their own backyard or in a public place. Both the city and Kerrville Kroc Center offer public classes throughout the summer to help teach kids the skills they need to swim safely.

Municipal Olympic Pool The Municipal Olympic Pool, 601 Olympic Drive in Kerrville, offers swim lessons for multiple levels, which are split by skill set. The arts and live theater are alive and well in the Hill Country this summer. Children and teens can take part in any one — or more — of a variety of camps for kids in both theater and art. Campers will explore their artistic sides and learn all aspects of theater at these camps, with skills they will take with them for life.

HCAF 2017 Youth Theatre Camp The Hill Country Arts Foundation, 120 Point Theatre Road in Ingram, is offering five camps for young thespians of the Hill Country. Camps for ages five to teen will delve into all aspects of theater, including acting, music, movement, costumes, props, makeup and sets. The camp will help campers grow, collaborate and express themselves artistically and socially, learning from master-level instructors and experienced assistants. Let’s Do Summer P2K Style Playhouse 2000, VK Garage Theater, 305 Washington St. in Kerrville, is hosting its youth theater camp this summer. Campers will sing, dance and act their way through a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” The performances will be June 19-July 30 at the Kathleen C. Vacation Bible Schools Vacation Bible school is offered for free or at a minimal cost at local churches throughout the Hill Country this summer for children as young as age three through adult, depending on the church. VBS is a specialized form of religious education that usually consists of Bible stories, games, religious songs, arts and crafts, skits or puppet shows, as well as other activities.
