What’s New in the Club? Assets of the Month: Integrity & Honesty

April 2013

Most of us consider ourselves to be honest people who stand up for what we believe in… when it’s convenient or comfortable. We may proudly speak the truth about big ideas, but then turn around and tell little white lies to manipulate a situation. In a society leading us towards empty uniformity, it can be easy to forget our personal and spiritual principles and conform to the mainstream ideas because of some fear of rejection. To this, Jesus might say, “This is old news, buddy.” If we allow our youth to cheat or lie without consequence, no matter how small the offense, we are teaching them to be liars and cheaters as adults. If we do not show honesty in our own words and actions, we are like “bad trees bearing bad fruit” and our youth will see no lasting consequences. If we also do not represent our own beliefs with truth, our youth may miss opportunities to develop their own convictions. In Luke 16, Jesus says, “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” What good is any honesty, faith, or conviction if it is not solidly represented? ~Cara Bierschwale, BGC Director

How can we give our youth opportunities to demonstrate honesty and integrity?  Promote Honesty:

 Promote Integrity and Conviction:

-If you’re honest, you care about other people’s reputations (you won’t tell lies about them). -If you’re honest, you care about fairness (you won’t cheat at school or in sports). -If you’re honest, you care about others and you respect

-Stand up for what is right (help your friends and family). -Speak the truth (even if others disagree). -Be obedient (to your parents, teachers, and God).
