The Silas Craft Collegians Program at Howard Community College was created to assist people to reach their potential to be successful college students. Bro. Silas Craft was the first African American principal in Howard County and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter of the fraternity presented the How-

ard Community College Education Foundation with a check for $500. ΚΦΛ Chapter also sold tickets for the Silas Craft Dinner and raised $1,750. The total amount of money raised by the Silas Craft Advisory Committee was over $30,000. I would like to thank the Brothers who purchased tickets to make this event successful!

Enjoying an opportunity to keep our Howard Co. roads clear of trash

Last month on a sunny, Saturday morning, Kappa Phi Lambda Brothers came together for the chapter’s third service “clean-up” event of the fraternal year. The chapter’s area is located on Broken Land Parkway, between Snowden River Parkway and Cradlerock Way (near Lake Elkhorn). The next clean-up day is planned for Sat., May 21 from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Brothers are encouraged to attend and bring work gloves.

PARLIAMENTARIAN’S CORNER

Chapter election scheduled for May meeting Bro. Cecil G. Christian, Jr. ΚΦΛ Chapter Parliamentarian

Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter’s election of officers will be held during the chapter meeting scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2016. At the April chapter meeting, nominations were accepted for each elected office shown at the right. A Brother cannot be nominated to serve in the same office if he has served in that role for the last two consecutive years.

Last month, Bro. Charles Robinson of Maryland Public Television was a panelist for a locally televised debate between the top leading candidates for the office for Baltimore mayor.

Additionally, Bro. Vic Carter of WJZ 13 (CBS) was the moderator of the debate between Congressman Chris Van Hollen and Congresswoman Donna Edwards. The candidates were vying for the seat being vacated by retiring Senator Barbara Mikulski.

Before the election at the May meeting, the floor will be opened again for the nominations. Brothers will be elected by secret ballot, and they will be sworn in as the last item of business at the chapter’s June meeting.

Brothers will be elected to the following offices:

r President r Vice President r Recording Secretary r Corresponding Secretary r Financial Secretary r Treasurer r Chaplain r Sergeant-At-Arms r Director of Educational Activities r Historian r Director of Membership Intake r Associate Editor to The Sphinx
