ISSUE 8 WINTER 2015
rockissue It’s that time of the year when the fashion world is getting ready for the fashion weeks, showing us what trends can we expect for AW2015 kicking of in New York on 12th February. On the other hand, fashion magazines and brands are teasing us with SS15 campaigns, clothes we love to look at and look forward to wearing. It’s just a tiny bit inappropriate when it’s so damn cold outside! I don’t leave my house without a pair of tights and at least three layers of clothing on top. Unless I have an event to go to, I wouldn’t even think of wearing something shorter than my ankles! In the eight issue of Pavli Magazine, we are bringing you a fair share of inspiration what to wear right now, when the days are still cold, dark and windy/rainy! There are couple of pages that will get you thinking about upcoming hot summer months too! Local bloggers will share their favourite winter looks with us and also share their personal experience form their travels to Thailand! Pavli Magazine is a place for creativity and sharing real style by real people. If you are interested in contributing to the magazine with your photography, designs, illustrations or personal style and experiences please come forward and drop me a line on me@pavlistyle.com. Let’s rock in 2015! Love Pavli xxx #pavlistyle @pavlistyle www.pavlistyle.com

The Poncho The Poncho is an iconic piece of folk style. At Roberto Cavalli, the Poncho was re-invented by adding luxe trimmings such as fur for a sophisticated look. On the other hand, at Burberry and Etro, models were seen on the runway in a more relaxed mood with the Poncho hanging casually on their shoulders. The oversized knit poncho was seen at Barbara Bui and Tommy Hilfiger.

Did you try these go-to winter styles? by Mariel Sacco
Being a Winter baby, I am naturally drawn to the autumn and winter months as my preferred time of the year. I have often said that this is the best time in terms of style as well. The summer heat would have subsided and one can get away with more structured, better tailored clothing. Oh, and layering!
“Two particular trends that I’m very much experimenting with this season are the sleeveless jacket or coat and belted scarf.”
048
ISSUE 8 WINTER 2015
When I recently bought a sleeveless trench coat, the reaction of those around me was not what I had hoped for. However, seeing how the stylish ones have embraced this new accoutrement, and seeing as it was showcased on the runways of Salvatore Ferragamo, Miu Miu, Victoria Beckham, Isabel Marant, and in a gorgeous shade of yellow at Dior, I knew my purchase was well justified. Let’s face it, sleeveless jackets have been around under the title of ‘vests’ for as long as I can remember: leather moto vests worn over denim jackets? I remember those from the 80s! Take inspiration from that and apply it to the office in the form of a sleeveless long-line blazer over a cupro or silk blouse. For a more casual look, ditch the preppy padded waistcoat, and opt for a sleeveless coat over breton striped knit, ripped jeans and sneakers. ISSUE 8 WINTER 2015
049
The other trend which is providing me with much inspiration this season is the belted blanket scarves and ponchos which characterised Burberry Prorsum’s AW14/15 collection. Flashback to last year when blanket scarves were the one thing to own and when it was hip to swaddle oneself in a shapeless yet cosy and wooly embrace.
”Use the blanket scarf you already own and give it shape thanks to a strategically placed belt.” This may not be a ground breaking discovery in no shape and form, but a simple and very effective revelation of sorts. I have already given the look a shot, even when it was not yet cool enough to warrant wearing scarves. Running around Rome last September, I belted a rectangular long scarf over a strappy dress. Whenever I entered a church, I could simply drop the scarf over my shoulders, cape-like, to fit into the respectful dress code the visit required. This trend is all about playing with complementary patterns and textures … and once the cooler temperatures kick in, keeping yourself warm as well! 050
ISSUE 8 WINTER 2015
Both trends offer a new take on something that we’ve all worn before; it just takes some open-mindedness and will to experiment with these styles. And what better time to experiment than a transition season? Go forth and be stylish!

the majestic sprawl of the land and beaches that make up Thailand. On a visit to the capital city of the latter, it was not surprising to discover an incredible selection of malls and markets one could get lost in for days on end. In fact, you can saunter from one shopping centre to another in the area of Siam (which incidentally was Bangkok’s

Amidst the animated fluid movement of shoppers, tourists and backpackers, the luxurious space for designers and expensive shop displays is pushing ahead in a bid for Bangkok to forge its name in the oft-demanding world of fashion. Siam presents. One of the centres I came across is targeted at welcoming budding designers to showcase their styles; an arena where creativity and imagination collude in a playground of symbols and motifs that are at once original and inspiring. I was enthralled straight away by the shop windows where clothing and other wares are a statement of freedom of movement and expression, where wearable 064

art seeps into the mundanity of many people’s lives, adding colour and vibrant resonances. Some of the designer stores cater for different tastes – from the women who prefer flowery motifs and the demure ensemble, to others who are partial to kaftans and more earthy-toned hues. The materia prima used in creating these pieces is simultaneously rich and sophisticated. Consequently, the feel of the clothes is sleek and

of the best quality. The most conspicuous aspect however at Siam Design is the attention to detail in creating the display itself: it is not just a shop window but it is a dialogue between the fashionista and the beckoning styles. One must not forget that shoe stores are also ubiquitous in these malls and here is but a small selection, from colourful and outlandish

designs that have caught my eye, to the downright unorthodox (such as the Barbie heads suggestively placed in two of the wedge designs!) Finally, a mention goes to the art and design stores that can be found in one of the malls. What is noteworthy is that there is a unique and appealing section that sells fashion stationery for those who love organizing and designing. So if you intend to visit the ever-changing centre of Bangkok, make sure to alight at Siam Designs – where fashion meets wearable art and ingenious design. ISSUE 8 WINTER 2015
