Two years ago, when I was admitted to Master’s Program, I still didn’t know yet what my goal is, but I have lots of passions and feel that I can do many things on design. Afterwards, I started learning about “User Experience”, and I know, which is God opened the window. At the same time, I think when I show my imaginations and insistences of beauty, I will be seen.

Personal Abilities

I can’t live without design. From studying background until now, my life is flowed around design. When I was young, I started to learn the Art. Because I think the colors can convey my ideas to people, I trained my color sense to make it stronger and used it on my design. How lucky it is?

At last, “ User Experience ” is my research field in Master’s Program. I want to show my abilities, focus on users’ needs, through research and observation to understand what they want and provide aptly designs for them. “User Interface Design” is one of methods in User Experience I choose, and I’m ready on it.

There is my studying of design process: First of all, Art (sketch, watercolor, oil painting, sculpture, Chinese ink and wash painting...etc.), I was cultivated about the hand painted performance and sense of beauty; In my high school phase, I learned in “Advertising Design” about 3 years, to understand the basic structure on design, and how can we attract someone’s eyes on vision; The “Industrial Design” was my college professional field. I didn’t only involve in products design and model manufacturing, but also understood that people’s needs, knowledge of Human factors and marketing plans.

5

No matter any design fields, I can mix it all I can do to create many abilities on design. It’s not mean that I am a normal person without talents, instead, I can do more work programs for you.

Working Expectations

To Develop “User Interface” is based on the knowledge of “User Experience” 以「使用者經驗, UX」 發展「使用者介面設計, UI」 In studying, my professor asked us a question: Look at the UE field, do you have any ability can make you are second to none? “I’m not afraid to work and coordinate with engineer, make fluent graphic user interface effectively, and also I can convince my clients and bosses with the knowledge of user experience.” I said. In design, I hope my design can be accepted by users. No matter we solve what they need, or just for fun, and we have to provide quality works for them. In research, I hope I can present the results with my personal abilities. Maybe my research methods aren’t better than the psychology, but I can make a interesting presentation with design.

7

Working Expectations

Working Plans My future, is not clear for me, but there has one thing I can sure is, I have my beautiful family who believes in me so much, there is no pressure, no much traditional ideas, so they push me and support me on my choice. Therefore, even Taiwan is my country, where my family is. I hope I can work in different places to assimilate the external culture like cloud flies in the sky.

UX UI User experience involves a person’s emotions about using a particular product, system or service. User experience highlights the experiential, affective, meaningful and valuable aspects of human-computer interaction and product ownership. Additionally, it includes a person’s perceptions of the practical aspects such as utility, ease of use and efficiency of the system. User experience is subjective in nature because it is about individual perception and thought with respect to the system. User experience is dynamic as it is constantly modified over time due to changing circumstances and new innovations.

TODAY Population Growth Hearing Impaired People: Taiwan

Background

There have been many daily messages delivered by sound, including talks, communication, reminder, environmental changes. Due to fast speed and directness, it is very important for danger alarm. Therefore, a hearing impaired person suffers from inconvenience of daily life and faces dangerous situation that cannot be perceived.

15

Mobile App

Design Process The purpose of this design was to establish an APP for hearing impaired person as visual assistance for their daily life. The process was based on user experience and went through three design phases. We named the APP iListen. The objectives were threefold. First, to understand the needs of representing sound in their daily life. Second, to design and build the APP based on their needs. Three, to conduct user test using fully working APP and to propose the direction of modification for future references.

User Exprience Design

The first phase, user experience research, utilized focus group method to interview the hearing impaired persons in order to explore their needs.

The second phase, user experience design, finished the APP based on their needs by a multidisciplinary team.

The second phase, user experience design : First, I made a prototype that based on iOS guideline, and ask hearing impaired people to operate it. When they are using, I also ask some questions about the needs on user interface.

18

19

Focus Group And I start to connect with them and observe their problem. I used twice “focus group on my user study, five members group to a team. And I ask question to get some feed backs, also took a sign language translator to help me communicate with them. Focus groups also provide an opportunity for disclosure among similar others in a setting where participants are validated. For example, in the context of workplace bullying, targeted employees often find themselves in situations where they experience lack of voice and feelings of isolation. Use of focus groups to study that serve as both an efficacious and ethical venue for collecting data.

20

Mobile App

Interview In the UXT phase, I visited 13 hearing impaired people, someone who already used iListen in their lives, and others didn’t. I used “ Qualitative Interviewing “ to get their feedbacks about thier life experiences. Possibly the greatest advantage of Qualitative Interviewing is the depth of detail from the interviewee. Interviewing participants can paint a picture of what happened when they used this app, tell us their perspective of such event, as well as give other social cues. In this, I can understand the process of an event instead of what just happened and how they reacted to it.

I’m practicing in gui design with different graphical styles. And also, try to create some app concept in different devices and software platforms. The Flexible display of the phone could be seen in different visual angle. What is different from the past is that the display is placed on the outside. It can help people to know who’s calling. When the phone is placed on table, you can pick it up or transfer it after you saw the display. This establishes a new interaction using homephone. Besides, the shape of smart homephone is better than mobile phone to fit different faces. In the future, we wish to use touch display panel on smart homephone for even better user experience.
