LIBERTY BLOCKS WINTER 2015 PHILLIP BEESLEY TORONTO, ON
Located in Liberty Village, Toronto, this building aims to maintain the connections that were originally there within the market area while simultaneously creating new axis of interaction with a series of ramps that cascade down throughout the building, culminating in two focal nodes, the main galleria and the market. Much of the focus in the lower office block is on coop work spaces and workshare areas in an attempt to boost the creative industry in what will potentially be a new booming are of Toronto. The form is derived from a redistribution of mass that maintains the view from the surrounding buildings, and a play of shifting forms back and forth that clearly defines each portion of the building. Each shift creates a public area at different levels of the building and creates opportunity for interaction and exploration. An action of weaving, formally and socially.

THE FARMHAUS FALL 2015 JASON HALTER KEVIN WEISS TORONTO, ON ILHAN OZDEMIR YUCHEN ZHANG
This project is made up of 3 components that each address a specific issue. The potential of farming within an urban context, a module based residential building that combats the lack of housing with high density units, and a retail market space that is able to self sustain itself economically with the produce from the urban farm. A symbiotic relationship is formed. The residential units provide the water required to feed into the farm and is the main consumer base for the market. The market sells the produce from the farm and is able to be economically feasible in maintaining the entire building while also feeding back water into the system. Lastly, the farm which takes up the adjacent warehouse space, contains enough growing area so that the warehouse operates on a high efficiency level, able to produce over 800 heads of lettuce per week.

RE-CONSTRUCTION FALL 2016 LORENZO PIGNATTI ROME, ITALY
This graft provides a temporary shelter, with the intention of a short term stay, for incoming refugees and provides all the basic necessities they may need to help them along their journey. Re-construction invokes the original memory of the aqueduct by imitating the form as it was once built. It is an intersection between the past and present conditions. A reveal of the aqueduct in its original form represents what it once was. It uses scaffolding as a structure, easy to put up and easy to take down. However, the nature of scaffolding obscures the object that it is supported by and in order for the aqueduct to retain its identity, a series of fabric drapes creates the facade in the form of arches. This not only frames each unit, but creates an easily recognizable and dynamic structure. Eventually, the graft can grow along the rest of the ruins and reconstruct the aqueduct, temporarily.

A CHAIR FOR MARK TWAIN FALL 2015 ELIZABETH ENGLISH CAMBRIDGE, ON FIONA LU
A Mark Twain is a Mississippi term meaning the second mark on a line that measured depth. It signified two fathoms, or twelve feet which is the safe depth for a steamboat to pass through. This chair designed for Mark Twain reflects his love of being a pilot on the Mississippi for he adored the profession far better than any that have followed since. He could sit on this chair on a sunny day while bathing under the sun, rocking gently on the chair with his eyes closed. A mix between a garden chair and a hammock, it evokes the gentle current of the Mississippi, transportaing himself back to a time piloting a steamboat once again.

Sprout is a project that addresses the growing costs of food due to shipping and the environmental damages as a consequence. By keeping food close to home, it reduces costs as well as providing fresh food for the user. The aquaponic system keeps maintenance simple and human intervention is minimal. Future thoughts will consider various materials, size, and internal systems to try to reduce the cost even further. An app to help monitor the whole aquaponic system is also in development. The entirety of the Sprout garden can be condensed into a single package, allowing for easy storage and shipping. The entire aim is to be a cheap and portable alternative to other hydroponic systems on the market. The simple method of construction is easy to assemble and disassemble, the entire process taking only 20 minutes.

WORK EXPERIENCE WINTER 2014-PRESENT BUOYANT FOUNDATION PROJECT URBAN STRATEGIES IBI GROUP CAMBRIDGE, ON TORONTO, ON
The following work represents my time spent at various internships and what I have worked on. While working under Elizabeth English, I was part of a team that entered into the Holcim competition. My contributions included modelling and preparing presentation graphics. I also maintained the Buoyant Foundation Project website and social media. At Urban Strategies, I worked with multiple teams of urban designers and planners on different projects. I helped to prepare presentation packages, create maps and diagrams, and 3D model context sites in ArchiCAD. I also maintained and updated the Western University Master Plan.
