“The enthusiasm and passion with which the Money Mentor Club team seeks to help people with their financial wellbeing is impressive. They are a welcome addition to Datchet and to the Windsor constituency. As an entrepreneur before entering Parliament, it is good to see a local business helping people to understand the labyrinthine tax code and the ‘real world’ of managing finances.” “People will increasingly learn about their personality type, financial profile, basic investment techniques and how to achieve their financial wellbeing goals through the use of online applications. Once they know what they want to do, they will then be able to choose the best products and financial advice online or in person as suits them best”. “I was particularly interested by Money Mentor Club’s inventive focus on well-being rather than purely focussing on profit, as well as their research-based approach to help people understand their personality type. I can certainly see a gap for people wanting to discover their overall comprehensive financial well-being with products like WOWW! (The Ways Of Work and Wellbeing!)” “It is reassuring to see the research-based approach they are taking and I very much wish them well for the future.”

OUR CONCLUSIONS …. WHAT ARE YOURS?

Learning & Leading - Personal & Professional

See the back page pictographic of The Wheels of Wellfulness of our combined YouGov researched NET SCORES – The 5 Ways Of Work and Wellbeing – Personal and Financial. The Workplace Implications The impact for employers and employees of what we call financial ‘un-Wellbeing’ (one of many) according to Barclays research is a massive ‘loss of 4% on the Bottom Line’ – never mind the often tragic human impact on our personal health and wealth wellbeing. The Personal Implications When it comes to our National, Workplace and Personal Wellbeing aligned with our National, Workplace and Financial Wellbeing in the UK is that we are losing ourselves, family, friends, colleagues and employees to the malaise of un-Wellbeing in EVERY ONE of the 5 Ways of Work and Wellbeing, as we show in our Wellbeing Dashboard. The UK Implications As a nation, we suffer a drastic lack of the opposite of what we call ‘Wellfullness’; our thinking, saying and actions at home and work through dire lack of communication, training, motivating and mentoring of our biggest human needs – to be well, fit and as healthy as we can, both personally and financially.

The Real Bottom Line - It’s Time For KY7C™ We have a Financial Industry that is struggling so hard to CONNECT; as well as our citizens and our employees lacking the desire for deep-seated change to personal and financial wellbeing. We therefore believe the key is to adopting and embracing what we call KY7C: KY7C™ - Know Your 7 C’s - The Ways Of Work & Wellbeing Relationships For Life Truly know your Customers, Clients, Colleagues and Community with whom you need to Communicate, Care for and CONNECT. How? With the 5 Ways Of Work and Wellbeing - WOWW!

We don't TALK or TRUST -

CONNECT

At home or work or finance or government

Kevin Writes: To CONNECT is the No. 1 Way of Wellbeing. Yet, when it comes to how much we talk, how well or even IF we CONNECT this is the WORST combined result of the Personal and Financial 5 Ways of Work and Wellbeing of our Money Mentor Club UK research conducted by YouGov. The Biggest ‘Aha!’ Of My Professional Life. When I first discovered (stumbled on) the 5 Ways to Wellbeing by nef – the New Economics Foundation; a research report and recommendations for the UK Government Office for Science, I realised my biggest ‘Aha!’ meant I had missed the MOST important aspect of my career. I had spent a lifetime in sales, marketing, internal marketing and communication and (latterly called) employee engagement. Yet here it was - the REAL implication of this basic element of our personal and workplace lives – for HR, for Internal Comms, Sales, Marketing and for the Finance Directors, the Board and everyone in the C-Suite and every single employee. To ‘communicate’ is NOT just about getting our message across or even getting ‘buy-in’; or with a sales person or contact centre exchange getting people to ‘buy’. To ‘communicate’ is to CONNECT – or not! And THIS is the No. 1 Way to Wellbeing – for each and every one of us, in each and every organisation. This is the implication for us all in the UK - being able to CONNECT, and on such an important issue as our personal wellbeing it is vital. BUT WE DON’T TALK and we DON’T TRUST – that’s why we DON’T CONNECT. Over to Chris….

Chris Writes: Kevin is the ‘communication and marketing guru’. I am the ‘financial guy’ who has seen a collapse of the number of IFA’s; an increase in personal responsibility like pensions and a massive lack of training and financial education in the workplace. This all leads too often to ‘help’ being the last resort, e.g. provided by our partners PayPlan or employee assistance programmes – EAP’s. So we set out to ‘do something about it’. The NEW SCORE combined with the NEF SCORE is the first step in both raising the issues and more importantly getting people to realise as they ‘self-score’ that they need to do something – on both the personal and financial ways of wellbeing. With a UK Benchmark and personal benchmark and goal, to get a better score, together with the right tools and training a +4 or even +5 is more than possible for everyone – it’s critical! CONNECT Hard for men to talk about these issues

It is not an issue that interests me and does not bother me. It's just not something I've ever done

Because it is nothing to do with anyone but me. I will consult a professional when I need to.

Work is not the place

I don't think it is the right place to discuss personal problems at work I would not expect sympathy or understanding

I would not want to burden my partner with any such worries

Mental health issues give a reputation

My husband gets tired of hearing me moan on about my conditions, if I continue he may leave me so I bottle them up

I have too many other problems as a carer to worry too much about me

I am embarrassed

It's not a subject to be shied away from and myself and my husband talk regularly about fitness and our health and try recognise we could be a bit healthier. We also want our children to be aware of their health

Don't feel I can talk openly about such issues, people generally seem uncomfortable with it

Employ 20 people so am boss difficult to talk to juniors

BECAUSE IT IS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYONE BUT ME. I WILL CONSULT A PROFESSIONAL WHEN I NEED TO.

I don't really discuss my health with anyone

We don’t TAKE ENOUGH CARE -

BECONNECT ACTIVE

Of ourselves, or others, or our employees

Kevin Writes: This is the only one of the NET SCORES where the comparison scores are very different between the NEF SCORE (Financial Wellbeing) and the NEW SCORE (Personal Wellbeing). Why? Because more people placed their activity on wellbeing at a +1 on their personal wellbeing rather than a higher +2 on their financial activity. It’s not surprising really. You just HAVE to do something and BE ACTIVE about the bills! But if you don’t WANT to go for a walk or lose weight or stop drinking or smoking, you don’t have to, if you don’t feel like it. Or you just don’t see it as important or as urgent as money and finance. The implications for employers and employees is serious and needs to change. But how? The way organisations (traditionally) believe they can become better, bigger, brighter and bolder is to ‘change the culture’. Yet, here in BE ACTIVE is the real solution. It’s not about ‘Culture Change’ it’s about ‘Climate Change’. If an organisation changes what it SAYS, what it DOES and what it LOOKS LIKE then this is how it changes. That’s what I call ‘Climate Change’. The best way to doing that is now through (the buzz word is) GAMIFICATION. The fitness industry and the finance industry too are going through the gamification of wellbeing through the power of tools like FitBit with its App giving scores and encouragement and goal setting. And even more importantly it’s challenges with other users and yourself too! Why? So you can also CONNECT about BEING ACTIVE!

Chris Writes: The biggest innovation of the 20th Century wasn’t the telephone it was ‘self-service’ – getting people to shop, fill their cars and even clean their fast food tables. The cost-saving and employment implications were vast; and even more impactful in the 21st Century as we all go on-line. Today with so few professional advisors and so much regulation the ‘self-service’ culture is affecting us both in our own route to personal wellbeing and fitness, like FitBit and to our financial wellbeing and fitness. We now have many tools like the ones that Money Advisory Service provide or Apps like Money Dashboard or websites like Money Saving Expert: Yet the real need as we see from both our NET SCORES Surveys is to create self-service in the 5 Ways of Work and Wellbeing. Self-completion tests are the first step. So BE ACTIVE and do your own NEW SCORE. How about now??? TM

BE ACTIVE I bury my head in the sand and ignore my problems

MORE OF AN EMPHASIS LATELY ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN THE NEWS, BUT, APART FROM THAT I DON'T CONCENTRATE ON THESE ISSUES.

They are all quacks and charlatans.

I am too busy helping other family members I find I have no time to look after myself and am quite neglected these days I don't think I'm worth being given any help when others need it more than me

Totally fed up of being preached at by one group or another dependant on what flavour is favoured that month/ year/Band wagon

Too much info out there not all true Don't want to start worrying about my health don't want to think about it Not much interest as things are always changing and we live once and theres no point in worrying about my health as you can follow everything being said to have well being and good health and still end up with health issues

I read a lot of books and online about health and well being and then apply what I learn to my own life and my family because I had a heart attack last month

Sometimes it is depressing trying to self diagnose problems so I tend not to

Having a baby has made me more aware of my health and wellbeing so I pay attention I regularly have meetings with my family to information that might apply to me and the societies to which I belong

Just not interested

about how investments etc. are doing.

We don’t TAKE MUCH NOTICE -

TAKE NOTICE

Of financial or personal or emotional wellbeing

Kevin Writes: Here’s the odd thing; This is the ‘least bad’ of all the scores. We do better at our attempt to TAKE NOTICE. It means we watch the news, read the papers, listen to the radio, read the blogs, skim the magazines and watch the adverts. But do we do anything about it when it comes to our personal or financial wellbeing? The rest of the NET SCORES give us the answer. NO! ‘Oh! It’s January. Better take notice of my weight gain’. ‘Oh! The government announces new alcohol limits. Better take notice – for the next few days anyway.’ We may TAKE NOTICE but what do we do – without the on-going motivation and mentoring to help us on our way?

Chris Writes: To BE ACTIVE and to TAKE NOTICE are the two core elements we define as ‘Financial Health’. In other words, you TAKE NOTICE of what is needed and happening and you BE ACTIVE about doing something about it (see the NEF SCORE Report). To TAKE NOTICE is also vital when it comes to our ‘Financial Education’ as we look to adding to our knowledge and understanding as we KEEP LEARNING. The same is true with our personal health and wellbeing. Yet, both our personal and financial scores are lower on BE ACTIVE and KEEP LEARNING. So, we might watch and listen but we don’t act! Isn’t it time we ALL of us, as individual citizens, employers, employees and government TAKE NOTICE of our national, workplace and personal engagement in wellbeing?? Yes!! TAKE NOTICE I need to see a doctor about my health problems but cannot find the time to other commitments

Avoid trendy things like mindfulness I cannot be bothered I feel too stressed

People might think I am being silly

I'm not interested.

Isn't this just common sense for a reasonably intelligent person. I don't like to know what is bothering me as it might not be what I want to hear.

Having children means little time to think about these things I do not like to dwell on this I'm not interested in the frankly conflicting diet and exercise advice which is peddled.

Too much jargon Leave it to professionals I have frequent suicidal thoughts and do not want help.

As I get older, I am more aware of my own mortality so I want to be as healthy as I can be

Its about finding the time

It's too boring to read about

The more I know about how to keep myself healthy the better.

Member of many fitness forums. Use Google Fit to track daily activities. Use apps to measure the frequent runs that I do. MENTORS 14%

KEEP LEARNING

We don’t TRAIN or TEACH -

At home or education or work and so it perpetuates

Kevin says...

Kevin Writes: To KEEP LEARNING is one of the critical 5 Ways of Work and Wellbeing. Why? Not just because it’s critical for our personal and financial wellbeing but simply because to KEEP LEARNING about ANYTHING is important for our general and mental health and wellbeing. Yet our research says that people are often confused or feel misled by so many conflicting claims. And that both personal and financial health and wellbeing are truly complicated and difficult subjects to get a grasp of. So what to do? Our solution for financial wellbeing is to ‘Put The Fun In – Take The Fear Out – Of Finance For Life’. The only way to learn is to want to start! And the only way to teach is once you have learned! Our solution for personal wellbeing is to combine it with financial wellbeing and build a total approach to our personal and financial wellbeing.

Chris Writes: We often act in the way our parents acted when it comes to finance. That’s great if it was the RIGHT way, or unless and until we learn that that way was the WRONG way, and then it may be too late. In a family or at work where wellbeing – be it personal or financial – is just not taught, not trained and far less not mentored, practiced and preached is it any wonder the NET SCORES on KEEP LEARNING are low? In a world of frustrating terminology and regulation, in both the UK and the EU is it any wonder that fewer and fewer people can, want to, or afford to KEEP LEARNING? And in a world where the level of TRUST in Financial Institutions is at an all-time low after the scandals and collapse of the banks and world economy, is it any wonder people won’t want to KEEP LEARNING if no-one is there ‘for me’ to help, guide, teach, train and mentor me? The same is true even of drug companies when it comes to our health and personal wellbeing like the claims of Nurofen to cure ‘specific’ aches and pains, rejected by the Australian Government. For me it’s even better to say ‘I love learning!’. The great thing is.... it’s my Way Of Work TM and Wellbeing. It’s my favourite WOWW! That’s why I KEEP LEARNING. How about you and yours - family, friends and colleagues? Will you mentor them??

KEEP LEARNING I dont have the free time to dedicate to wellbeing education I am unfit and over weight but feel powerless to fix it alone

Grossly overweight, always saying I will do something about it but never do.

I try not to dwell on thoughts of medical problems. Vague interest in health but not really interested

Because I am lazy

Its not something I take much notice of except of course if I am ill.

Why do you need more information

Too many other things to do to be too introspective

I've neglected my own wellbeing for too long, putting the needs of others before my own. I recently concluded that I need to look after myself more.

Not very interested in health education but will occasionally read a bit about it.

Too busy looking after my family to worry about myself

Prefer to meet problems when they arise

I will get around to it soon

I use technology to inform my workouts

I like to understand what might be more critical or beneficial to my well being.

Prefer not to know

I'm scared of poor health

We don’t GIVE TIME -

GIVE

Or our energy or emotions - never mind money

Kevin says...

Kevin Writes: To CONNECT is the No.1 Way of Work and Wellbeing. GIVE is the No. 1 MEASURE OF SUCCESS of both personal and financial wellbeing. NO! Not just money. That’s the easiest way, even if it is only small amounts people can afford. To GIVE is to give of our BEING as part of our WELLBEING. To GIVE of our time and our energy and our emotions like love, comfort, joy is to know that you are achieving the other 4 of the 5 Ways of Work and Wellbeing – because you are able – and recognise it is as important to YOU as to those who you GIVE to.

Chris Writes: People can tend to value themselves based upon their bank balances, as if they are just a sum of their ‘paper worth’. The whole person is so much more than what we/they have in financial terms. From a financial perspective people (wrongly) assume that to GIVE is a ‘zero sum game’ where the ‘winner’ is the person being given to and the ‘loser’ is the person who gives. We think ‘If I GIVE to you, I must LOSE out (money, time, effort) and you win’. To GIVE is a perpetual gift that is so much more than the sum of its (financial) parts. As Money Mentors we truly believe that it is important to place a significant value on the level of giving in relationships as well as hard cash – with those we may or may not know. Giving of yourself, your time, your knowledge, your experience, your help and support has a word that means all of that….MENTORING! We do it for a living and as a way of living and wellbeing. You can too. And the reward is you CONNECT; you get to BE ACTIVE; you TAKE NOTICE of things beyond your usual circle; you KEEP LEARNING in ways you may never have imagined and what you GIVE is what you get back in Wellbeing – for life! GIVE I'm not committed enough to do more. Not really interested in other people I'm not a people person

With recession I feel I need to devote resources on the family

I just don't ever have anything spare

I have enough of my own problems ! you can only help others once you've helped yourself I believe that the fat cats take a good percentage of all monies given

just don't have the energy to help myself

You dont know where the money goes when you give money to charity

People are responsible for their own health

Giving to others just can be never ending. It's not a top priority for me

I'm not committed enough to do more.

I'm too busy

I have enough on my plate with my family and work commitments

For me charity begins at home

I cannot afford to do this

I'm a volunteer with the local library, delivering books ???? to the house bound

I give to various charities regularly and always sponsor friends and family in fundraising but I am more interested in the welfare of immigrants, the homeless, pregnant and unsupported etc.
