esteemed judges for their important work in selecting the final winners. The winners will be revealed at our virtual awards show happening on October 21, hosted by CBC News anchor Suhana Meharchand. Following great feedback from last year’s event, we’re excited to bring back live virtual panels with the finalists who will be sharing their inspiring insights, trade secrets, and success stories. Finally, Canadian Occupational Safety and Key Media would like to congratulate this year’s finalists – who are listed in the following pages.

The awards team conducted research and drew on knowledge and information gained through Canadian Occupational Safety to support and supplement nominations received. Shortlisted nominees were then required to complete a more detailed submission form and an employee perception survey, which is required to send out to employees and meet a minimum threshold of respondents by a pre-determined deadline.

All finalist submissions are forwarded to an independent judging panel comprising esteemed experts, thought leaders and veterans in and around the occupational health and safety profession. The panel will assess and vote for the winners in each category according to the relevant category criteria. Voting will commence in August 2021 and their judgment will be impartial, balanced, incisive and fair. Any judge with a conflict of interest in a category will recuse themselves from judging that category.
WINNERS Using a simple points system to aggregate judges’ votes, the finalist with the top score in a category will be named winner and announced at the virtual Canada’s Safest Employers Awards show on October 21, 2021. They will also be promoted in Canadian Occupational Safety.

“ Recognizing the achievements of health and safety leaders, especially in consideration of the challenges of the past year, is so important. These people have led the charge, often through the unknown, to protect businesses and their people so they can go home safe at the end of the day. Celebrating Canadian businesses that are making safety a priority encourages others to make it a priority too – and that’s exactly what needs to happen.”
