Even better news is that there are tickets to be won for these concerts so if you enjoy Blues & Rock, you will find all you need on page 27. On a more serious note, if you haven’t checked your mortgage agreement, now is a good time to do so as if it contains the minimum interest rate clause, the Supreme Court of Spain has recently ruled these to be illegal and you may be due a refund – you will find more information that has been supplied by Lexlite Law Firm on page 44. Last, but by no means least, is our Restaurant Guide which in this issue runs from pages 49-62. Many restaurants will close for the winter season but here is our pick of the ones that will still be open and look forward to welcoming you. It just remains for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous 2016.

KEY BEAUTY Hair Extensions And What Can They Do For Me In this issue we are going to talk about hair extensions and what they can do for you. Here are some frequently asked questions: DO THEY DAMAGE MY HAIR ? No, not at all if they are done correctly by a professional.

be 90 euros. For a full set of long hair you will need about 100 extensions - this will cost around 400 euros. There are cheaper options - we have clip-ins - a full head of these will be about 150 euros for a full head, or micro rings 200 euros for a full head of long hair.
I HAVE VERY FINE HAIR AND I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE THICKER AND FULLER 70% of all the extensions we do are to make the hair thicker. Most people think extensions are only to make your hair longer but that is not the case. HOW LONG DO THEY LAST? Normally they will last 3 months, but they can last as long as 5 months. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? If you have a full head of extensions to give you length - 2 to 3 hours, for thickness - between forty minutes to 1 and a half hours. CAN YOU SEE THEM? No, not at all - you can even put your hair up! WHERE DOES THE HAIR COME FROM? A lot of it comes from India but the most expensive hair comes from Eastern Europe. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The cost varies according to how many extensions you have and the length. For instance, if you have 30, which will give you plenty of volume just past shoulder length, the cost will

KEY BEAUTY Discover Reflexology
at Marbella Beauty Academy Reflexology originated in ancient Egyptian times and through the ages has become an effective alternative therapy. Dr. William Fitzgerald called it zone therapy, as he saw the feet divided into 5 zones on each foot. Within these zones, pressure was applied and he found it to successfully relieve pain in corresponding parts of the body. Eunice Ingham in 1935 gave the therapy the name Reflexology and “mapped” out the entire body on the feet. By applying gentle pressure to “reflex” points on the feet, the client would then benefit in that area of the body (the hands can also be used). Reflexology is one of the most relaxing treatments and one of the most beneficial. It is non invasive and wonderful for all of the family. It balances the body systems, creating homeostasis (body and mind working together

KEY FEATURE 2016 – Give it 5!
By Ali Meehan – Costa Women
It’s that time of year again when the air is full with goals to achieve and resolutions (or revolutions) for the coming year. As an alternative to ‘making and breaking’, perhaps it is worth considering something that may not be so hard to maintain - start by fitting small things into your daily routine. In the time it takes to boil an egg, watch a TV advert break, or listen to your favourite song, you could 1. Be intentional about your time Structure your workday so that you start on the right foot. On Sunday night, I always create my list for the next working week. It takes very little time to put together, but means my days are organised. In my list, I have days on the right side of the page and projects I have to get done on that day. Then I look at my day and other commitments and realistically plan the projects around my time. I then create a secondary list on the left side of the page with items I would like to fit in once the bigger projects are finished, or which take can shorter bursts of time to achieve. As new work comes up during the week, I schedule these into the left side of the list and then carry forward (where I need to) when I create my work list for next week.

2. Create time chunks We all have projects we need to work on, but sometimes they seem just too big to start (you know those diversionary tactics of filling your washing machine, checking your personal Facebook feed, or just popping out to weed the garden). Schedule into your day 5 minutes slots to start the project. Stop after 5 minutes and reassess. Can you continue, or do you need to schedule another 5 minutes tomorrow, or later in the day? Do that every day for a week and you might have cracked the project. 3.Developing You We can never spend enough time reading about our industry, keeping up to date with social media developments, or making plans for our business. As you find interesting articles, ideas, or web links during the day, use get.pocket.com to create a list for looking at later. At the end of the day, plan to spend the last 5 minutes developing you and your business by reading that blog, how-to article, or watching a video. Enjoy your end of 2015 and give it 5 in 2016! I look forward to hearing how you get on. Image ©ashleyelladesign.com

KEY HEALTH All on FOUR . . .
By Belinda Pamos, Sonrisa
Patients often ask me… how many implants do I need to have all lower or upper teeth in a fixed way? Today I will explain to you one of the techniques using less implants that can be used and its benefits: “All on Four “ Rapid improvement in quality of life The All-on-4® treatment concept provides edentulous and soon-to-be edentulous patients with a fixed, full-arch prosthesis on four implants on the day of surgery. This quickly leads to improved patient satisfaction – with regards to function, aesthetics, sense, speech, and self-esteem. Shorter treatment times Two key elements significantly reduce treatment complexity, the number of surgeries, and the overall treatment time: tilt-

ing of the posterior implants avoids the need for time-consuming bone grafting procedures, while immediate loading shortens time to teeth. Lower costs The All-on-4® treatment concept is not only the least timeconsuming treatment option, but also the least costly in comparison with conventional implant treatment modalities of the edentulous and soon-to-be edentulous jaw. Stability even in minimum bone volume By tilting the two posterior implants, longer implants can be used. This increases bone-to-implant contact and avoids ver tical bone augmentation. In addition, the tilted implants can be anchored in better quality anterior bone, reduce cantilevers and help avoid impor tant anatomical structures.

KEY HEALTH Is an Annual Health Check really necessary? We all know that ‘prevention is better than cure’ – that’s why we regularly service our cars and our gas central heating boilers and that’s why we visit our dentist regularly. In order to keep everything running smoothly we regularly check it’s all OK and, if there is a problem, hopefully we’ll have found out about it early enough to make sure we don’t have a big bill to pay or lots of pain to endure! Unfortunately that’s not how we treat the most important thing in our lives - our own bodies and our own health. The only time we ever seem to go to the doctor is when we are feeling unwell - then it’s already too late to avoid the problem and all we can do is try to cure ourselves of it. Thankfully this can most often be done with the help of prescribed medication but occasionally when more serious illnesses strike, very little can be done in the absence of early detection. Cancer and heart disease together account for the vast majority of premature deaths in the UK and many would have been avoidable with early detection. But there are many other illnesses and conditions which are not necessarily life threatening but are nonetheless very serious and make people’s lives very miserable.
By Medicare
In the UK 250,000 people have Type 1 diabetes and just over 1.5 million have Type 2 diabetes. But more amazingly, it is estimated that there are up to one million people who have Type 2 diabetes but haven’t been diagnosed yet! Early detection can help to avoid or, at the very least, alleviate long term health complications through proper diagnosis and treatment. All of us who are 30 plus years old need to take a proactive approach to our healthcare needs: These tests should be done routinely as part of our annual health MOT: • Full Haematology Profile (blood test) • Cholesterol Test (cardiac risk factor) • Glucose Test (check for diabetes) • PSA (prostate test for men) • Cervical Smear (women only) • Weight and Body Mass Index assessment • Urine Analysis • ECG (heart) • Lung Function Test • Blood Pressure Check • Lifestyle Questionnaire and General Review

KEY HEALTH Sugar Rush Over consumption and how well our bodies can process the available sugars in our foods is a real issue. Imagine a kilo of sugar – the large bag that you might buy in a supermarket. This is the amount the average adult consumes in a fortnight. And it’s not just sweet treats like chocolate, biscuits and cakes we should be worried about. Many savoury foods and even drinks are packed with hidden sugars too. Government advisers suggest that no more than 5% of daily calories should come from added sugar (around 25g per day of six teaspoons) for an adult of normal weight. In some cases, sugar is accounting for 30% of our total calorie intake – well above recommended levels. What happens when we consume sugar? When we eat sugary foods and carbohydrates, insulin is released into our bloodstream and works to move glucose into our cells, where it can be used as energy. If we have a consistently high intake of dietary sugar, insulin gradually loses its ability to interact with cells and is less effective at removing excess glucose from the bloodstream. This is known as insulin resistance and can lead to a variety of health conditions. Do you suffer from cravings and energy slumps? When we consume foods with a high sugar content, there is a sharp spike in our blood glucose levels. Peaks in blood sugar are soon followed by dips, often resulting in cravings. Consequently, we suffer from energy highs and lows throughout the day. New research has found natural substances to help our bodies process sugar more efficiently: Delphinol ® is a specialised extract from the berries of the maqui tree, a Chilean medicinal plant. Delphinol ® has been shown to slow the release of glucose from the small intestine into the bloodstream to avoid sharp spikes in blood glucose levels. Chromium is a trace mineral found in small quantities in foods such as green leafy vegetables, potatoes and nuts. It works together with insulin to process the sugars in our foods more efficiently, moving glucose out of the bloodstream and converting it to energy. Introducing Bio-Gluco Control ® Bio-Gluco Control ® combines Delphinol ®, a unique Chilean maqui berry extract, with a patented, organic, chromium yeast ChromoPrecise®, which helps to main normal circulating blood glucose levels. Bio-Gluco Contro ® can help: • Promote healthy circulating levels of glucose in the bloodstream • Ensure more efficient use of available glucose in foods • Avoid energy highs and lows • Reduce cravings for sugary foods and carbohydrates • Prolong time between hunger pangs • Prevent fatigue and loss of concentration
By Anni’s Vital Shop Healthy individuals who follow a strict diet can also benefit from Bio-Gluco Control ® because the body will be able to process sugar more effectively. Know the Signs High Blood Sugar One third of us has high blood sugar, but apart from regularly taking blood tests, how do you know if your blood sugar is high? If you experience energy slumps, hunger pangs or carvings for sugary foods and carbohydrates, or have a diet high in processed foods, this could be you. Even if you don’t consume a high sugar diet, you should still be thinking about how effective your body is at processing the available sugars in the foods we consume, as glucose is a vital source of energy. Attention Snackers! Remember savoury can be sweet too. “It’s a common misconception that you are healthier if you resist the urge for doughnuts or chocolate bars and plump for something savoury. Snacking in general may be a sign of blood sugar imbalance so remember to look out for the signs!” Babi Chana BSc.

KEY HOLISTIC Training in Peter Hess 速 Sound Massage Goes European
Christine Heckel is an official representative of the Peter Hess Institute (Germany) and the only Sound Massage Practitioner in Spain authorised to teach under the auspices of the Peter Hess Academy Spain. More and more complementary therapies and methods are being acknowledged both officially and publicly. The Peter Hess Institute has set a great milestone over recent years in the sector of complementary therapies collaborating with the Steinbeis University in Berlin. The result is a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) for complementary methods/sound-resonance-method. This education is a practice-related course of studies. Why complementary methods and therapies as a profession? Part of the highest good of a society is the individual and collective health of its members/citizens. The complementary therapy understands health in a holistic context, which include the physical as well as the psychological, ecological, social and spiritual levels of human life. Its methods satisfy this complexity by fulfilling preventive and salutogenetic principles oriented to health and healing processes. This is a complement to conventional medical and therapeutic procedures, which are required by a pathogenetic model and are aligned with the state and process of illnesses. Complementary methods are oriented towards the individual needs of a person. They develop and strengthen the personal resources and awaken the self-healing powers of the organism.
By Christine Heckel The sound method used by Christine in 1-2-1 treatments, taught in courses and workshops, support the above mentioned. These methods have been developed for over 30 years and stand for quality. The sound of the sound bowl reaches our innermost, it touches our soul. The sound dissolves tenseness, activates self-healing processes and frees up creative energy. (Peter Hess) Sound Massage promotes the harmony of a person within him/herself and the outer world. This harmony is threatened by daily stress and is often the cause for illnesses. Sound Massage can be a fantastic and very effective relaxation method: during sound relaxation any physical tensions and circling thoughts accumulated from daily stress may be able to come to rest and be dissolved. This letting-go (on all levels) is a great basis for the revitalization and strengthening of self-healing forces. Relaxation and the experience of contentment, wellbeing, serenity and health are closely connected. Sound Massage can effectively support all this and favour conditions for learning, problem solving and a harmonic life balance. Contact Christine Heckel for more information on 1-2-1 treatments, workshops, courses and retreats at ch@christine-heckel.com or call at 667 43 88 29. KEY HOLISTIC Healing with Mother Nature Planet Earth is a most magnificent gift from the universe and Spirit. We have been given an abundance of resources which are all around us, and can help us to dispel the many negativities which are thrown at us on a daily basis. These negative forces can arise from the simplest of sources, such as conflicts with our loved one as we wake up that morning down to more serious matters such as natural disasters, wars and crime. Connecting to the elements provided to us by the universe is the most natural way to sustain our levels of positivity and sense of hopefulness, and to ensure we can bring love, hope and positive changes to our own lives and those of others. Let’s take a look at the wonders of healing with trees. In my book ‘Diary of an Accidental Psychic’, I’ve shared my personal and divine experience of healing from a special tree I discovered in Mijas. Without question, I feel the power of cleansing and clearing of all my negative energy from this, my beautiful tree, on a daily basis. Trees balance the universe – when you find yourself next to a tree, you will find yourself ‘in balance.’ The air we breathe comes from the trees around us – how much more divine or important can that be in our lives and those of our children? Perhaps today you can make a pledge to Mother Nature: go and plant your very own tree and feel the reward that Mother Nature will give you. Exercise to Heal with a Tree Find a park or wooded area which is safe, familiar and comfortable to you. Walk around it and take in the trees about you. Take your time – when you find yourself drawn to a particular tree, sit next to it. Allow yourself to connect to the amazing strength of the tree; feel the peace surrounding you. Visit your tree a few times to become connected with its energy and before long, you will start to experience deeper feelings about yourself and your life. These are the ‘connecting moments.’ They don’t happen every time you’re near your tree, so never force your feelings, as they should just flow. A day will arrive when you feel you know your tree; you will recognise a connection. At this stage, find a place to sit com-

By Mark Bajerski fortably and close your eyes. Inhale through your nose and count to three as you breathe in the tree’s energy. Stop and hold your breath for a further three seconds. Now exhale out of your mouth, counting to three again. Hold your breath for a further three seconds. Repeat this breathing exercise until you feel lighter. You will soon feel an inner strength through the clearing and cleansing of the tree’s energy. This energy clears all negativity, all thoughts, fears and worries. Now is the moment we need to ‘let go’. Allow all of this energy to flow through your feet and hands. Give the tree your negative energy – feel this energy flow through your feet into the roots, out through your hands and onto the bark of the tree. If you are facing challenging moments in your life, ask your tree for help and wisdom to conquer these challenges. This is something I do myself on a regular basis with extremely positive outcomes. As a suggestion, say the following words to your tree in exchange for this clearing and support: “Today I make a promise to be truthful and honest to my fellow friend, to be the best energy I can be, and to help heal the world from my heart.” Then carry out this agreement in a way that is most suited to your daily lifestyle. Get ready for a new energy of abundance to flow through your daily life and enhanced happiness and health, like never before. Trees heal body, mind and soul. We are all living energy; we are all part of Nature; we are all connected to our Mother Earth. Awakening to this connection is part of our destiny. Once we realise there is no separation between nature and ourselves, we then start to heal the world, for in healing the world, we heal ourselves. Spirit is always calling to you through Mother Nature. Take your time to listen to her speak, feel her words through her soft green earth, listen to her gentle breeze in your ear, open your eyes and see all her beautiful signs in her flowers, plants and trees. As you spend more time connected to Mother Nature and feel her healing powers, you will notice more peace and balance in your daily lives: find your tree, find your balance. KEY HOLISTIC Advice for Winter Welcome to the women Wellness Guide. The cooler days have finally arrived, and we are fortunate to have such wonderful mild winter here on the Costa del Sol. This is the time of the year where the sun is still quite powerful and the wind can be harsh, so be sure to use a good moisturizer on your face and don’t forget your hands too. Vitamins & Mineral Advice ProgesterAll balancing cream works much better when you combine a good diet with good quality health supplements. This time of the year we need to take care of our immune system. This can be done by taking a good multi vitamin/ mineral. Vitamin C (500-1000mg daily) and Zinc (15mg daily) are imperative all year round for women, especially women at the menopause stage of life. Vitamin D can be found in daily sun light, try to sit in the sun in the winter for at least 15 minutes every day and take a calcium tablet too. On our website we have a selection of complimentary supplements aimed at women wellness. Myths of Estrogen & HRT Estrogen is an essential hormone in the female body, but when the level of progesterone drops, usually around the age of 40-45+, then this hormone can play havoc with our feelings, physical, body and mind! Most physicians are attempting to push hormone replacement therapy (HRT) featuring synthetic estrogens and progestins onto ALL menopausal women. Their enthusiasm for these drugs, however, is not backed up by the facts. The idea that estrogen is dominant is completely absent in their vocabulary. You will not be told that your Progesterone levels have dropped slowly over the last 5-10 years or so and that you are now Estrogen Dominant. So what are the symptoms: Allergies, Breast Tenderness, Decreased Sex Drive, Depression, Fatigue, Fibrocystic Breasts, Foggy Thinking, Stress, Mood Swings, Migraine, Irritability, Miscarriage, Premenopausal Bone Loss, Osteoporosis, Uterine Cancer, Water Retention and Bloating, to name a few. It is clear that excess estrogen, when unopposed or un-
By Aly Farmer balanced by Progesterone, is not something wholly to be desired. It is clear that many of estrogen’s undesirable side effects are effectively prevented by progesterone. So what are some of the situations that can cause estrogen dominance? The Birth Control Pill, Hysterectomy, Post Menopause, Exposure to Xenoestrogens (chemical-based products) Stress, Aging and Chemical Drugs. How can ProgesterAll help? – Natural Progesterone Balancing Cream can eliminate these symptoms completely; women with hot flushes and night sweats need to work on their hormone balance as soon as they can, ideally before the warm weather arrives. The first positive symptoms you will feel is that you will feel good about yourself. It works immediately on your inner feelings, not because it’s a magic cream, but because your hormones are balancing themselves. As you use the cream and become acquainted with it, you will know when you need to use a higher dosage or less; your body and feelings will tell you. It´s easy to use, 2 small pea size dabs of the gel/cream on your skin in the morning and evening, or as prescribed by your consultant. During the first 6 months you will be guided as to how to use your cream and when, your follow-up consultancy never ends. There is always help and guidance. KEY ASTROLOGY Mercury Retrograde 6th to 26th January 2016 I suspect many of you will have heard of ‘Mercury Retrograde’ but for those who haven’t, Mercury the messenger planet, appears to go backwards in the sky for about 3 weeks, 3 or 4 times a year and it seems he is getting a name for himself as the ultimate disruptor! In fact, around the time of the last retrograde in September even the Daily Mail ran an interesting article on this very subject! You may have read it too? Mercury rules the mind and intellect and during a retrograde period we may experience more than usual communication and mechanical breakdowns, setbacks and delays, and while some of these are beyond our control, any setbacks we do experience are often due to our hurried lifestyles. When Mercury is in ‘backward motion’ it’s time to slow down, put the brakes on and reflect on whether we’re heading in the direction we want to go?
Taurus – MR in the 9th House of Higher Education and Knowledge – Beliefs create experience and what you do now will affect your future. Do you have a philosophy of life; are you living it? If you feel you’ve lost the bigger picture along the way, take a moment to be still and start visualising what you want and where you want to be. Explore different ways of looking at the world.
Now here we are about to enter another retrograde period from the 6th to the 26th January 2016. For most of those three weeks Mercury will travel back in the sign of Capricorn suggesting that practical and material elements of our lives could change affecting career, finances, and wellbeing. Using a Solar chart let’s take a brief look at what Mercury Retrograde (MR) in Capricorn, from the 6th to 26th January 2016, could mean for each of the Sun signs:
Cancer – MR in the 7th House of Marriage and Close Relationships – Old forgotten issues in relationships could rear up and you may have to bite your tongue. However Mercury retrograde in the 7th house could bring you closer together by airing differences of opinion and ultimately you will both feel like you understand each other much better.
Aries – MR in the 10th House of Career – During this retrograde take care of old business and finish any jobs started. Where work superiors are concerned, you may need to have more patience and take a cautious approach. This is a good time to re-evaluate your job or career and ask yourself if it fulfils what you want to achieve.
20
KEY TO MIJAS COSTA
Gemini – MR in the 8th House of Transformation – You have the chance to find out if you are getting and/or giving your fair share in a relationship. Look to see what if any changes or transforming actions need to be taken within a partnership. Virgo – MR in the 5th House of Creativity and Children – Creative energy may be lacking during the retrograde period but it could just be a glitch in confidence or some other doubt that’s bugging... just for now go with the flow and aim to bring some spontaneity into your life. Libra – MR in the 4th House of Home and Roots – Is your home your sanctuary, does it reflect who you are? Do you need to make some changes? Use this retrograde period to reconnect with your family, and if you haven’t already, make peace with the past. Scorpio – MR in the 3rd House of Communication – All forms of communication are brought into focus during this retrograde. Don’t say yes when you mean no and vice versa and if you feel like your mind is working overtime causing worry or nervousness then ensure you create some quiet time to gain clarity. Sagittarius – MR in the 2nd House of Values and SelfWorth - It’s time to think about what you really value in life. Are you happy with how you make money? Are you financially comfortable? KEY FEATURE An Interview with Dario Poli I first met Dario Poli some years ago and for some reason we became friends and later he began writing nice articles for our magazine, interviewing many interesting people on the coast. Dario is a tall, quite imposing figure with an easy, relaxed manner, but don’t be misled by his appearance and charm, he has had a quite a tough and adventurous life, beginning with his hard upbringing in Scotland where he was born, surprising with a name like Dario. When Dario’s father, an Italian operatic tenor, came back from war, he started up a business and he was involved with the early manufacture of potato crisps and at the tender age of five, it was Dario’s job to fill the famous little blue bags with salt, his father’s invention. Dario had very little formal schooling as his father wanted him to learn the hard realities of life as early as possible. At the age of 8 the hard work was affecting Dario’s health so his father sent him to live with Tuscan farmers near the Carrara Mountains. Dario, travelling alone from Dover, got lost in Paris on his way there, a fortuitous occurrence, since the train he was meant to be on, derailed, killing many passengers. Tuscany moulded a man out of the at times shy boy, giving him self-confidence and a feeling of new energy and power. He learned to fight, ride horses, and handle rough mules and reptiles. He grew strong and when he returned to Scotland, his father did not recognize him and from that time on, the bullying by older boys abruptly stopped. Dario’s greatest passion aside from reading was studying, something that was denied him as a boy. Dario has written illustrated books and articles for prestigious magazines, mostly centred round enigmatic figures of literature. He studied music in his spare time and later opened a popular restaurant in Leicester where he then lived and this led to him being propelled into the world of show business and entertainment with his talented sister, Delia. The pair rapidly rose to fame appearing in most of the finest venues in the UK and some abroad with TV and radio broadcasts to their credit, working with many major International stars - too many to relate here, but they include Buddy Greco, Julie Felix, Dave Allen, Bruce Forsythe, Olivia Newton-John and Dario with Engelbert Humperdinck, award winning record producer Roberto Danova and musical maestro David Redston. Dario initiated the campaign to improve the image of Marbella and the Costa del Sol during the really dark days some

years ago, and composed the music “Marbella Marbella” produced by talented David Mairs, to be used as the anthem for the campaign, first sung by Alan de Ward, Samantha Mairs and then Yanela Brooks in Spanish. Dario has written more than 200 songs, including music and lyrics for the musical drama “Lady X and the Power of Destiny” co-written and recorded in Dublin with a symphony orchestra and some of the Riverdance singers. He is also an artist, illustrator and published author. Along with his musical friend, David Mairs, he composed the song “Corazon” for the Children for Peace in Rome a UNESCO recognized charity, and he and David Mairs have just completed the song for Cudeca Hospice here on the Costa del Sol entitled “Someone for You”. Dario Poli has recently returned from The Hague where he was honoured to be invited to attend the International Gala celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN. Dario was earlier invited to write a new music composition for The Peace and Justice Foundation, a newly established venture at The Hague. Upon his arrival, he was driven from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam to meet Florence Olara of The Hague Justice Portal, who had issued the formal invitation to the UN event. He was then introduced to a range of officials and personalities and heard several speeches during the memorable evening. The 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN was marked around the world and Dario told me that he will be returning to The Hague again for further meetings as he continues to prepare the composition for the Peace and Justice Foundation. The exclusive Gala for the Foundation will take place in September 2016 and is expected to assemble International and Dutch celebrities and personalities from the worlds of film, music, sport, business, international politics, justice, NGOs and international society. Dario will be formally presented at the Gala as will the music he is creating especially for the event. Among his other ongoing projects at the moment and in conjunction with David Mairs, is “Amsterdam the Musical”, a new musical he is planning to launch in Holland. The musical came to Dario in a dream. It is the story of a lost work of art in the city of canals, which is found by a group of street musicians from Marbella. The project is ambitious and Dario is currently working on uniting the Mayors of Marbella and of Amsterdam, linking the cities, in what is undoubtedly the project of a lifetime.

KEY SPORTS FA Cup Roundup
By Steve Billingham
Sporting Khalsa based in the West Midlands and from the 9th tier of the football league had gone down 1-3 to FC United of Manchester on 24 October in the fourth and penultimate qualifying round of the FA Cup. A crowd of 1400 marvellously saw Salford City of the 7th tier beat Notts County in round 1 of the FA Cup on 6 November. Notts County fielded Northern Ireland and former Manchester United keeper, Roy Carroll, ex-England international Alan Smith (who was disappointing and substituted) plus Jonathan Stead. The Salford left back O Hallahan had played twice for the Republic of Ireland. Salford were on top in the first half and took the lead just after the re-start when James Poole ran down the right and crossed for Danny Webber to prod in. Webber had a good chance to score his second but Carroll blocked. At the other end Housen cleared marvellously off the line to prevent a Notts County equaliser. Jordan Hulme turned and curled against the bar before substitute Richie Allen beat 3 defenders with a neat turn and flick, played a onetwo with Poole before beating another defender and curling into the far corner for Salford’s second, a quite stunning goal. A well deserved win for Salford. - ‘A thoroughly entertaining match’ I would rather watch that than some of the top teams,’ remarked an observer. ‘What the FA Cup is really about, the underdog having a go – and coming out on top.’ ENGLAND v SLOVENIA - October 9 England made 5 changes from the Swiss match, Wayne Rooney was out injured. Wilshere is of course out with a broken toe-nail or something. A through pass by Ross Barkley which nutmegged a Slovenia defender set up Theo Walcott for England’s opener on the stroke of half-time. Walcott had earlier tested the keeper with a long range effort. On 50 minutes, a 20 yard Lallana drive was only parried but Kane could not follow up. ‘The entertainment has been modest,’ quipped the commentator. ‘The spitting has not improved since the Euros (2012), remarked an observer. ‘If they played football like they spat they’d win every match.’ Slovenia brought two substitutes on, one of who played his club football in Ireland with Sligo Rovers. A neat move involving Sterling who showed quick feet before knocking square to Barkley whose rasping shot was well saved. Best bit of football all match. Made by Vardy – Impact from the bench With ten minutes left, the Premiership’s leading goal scorer Jamie Vardy then with 7goals but now with 14 having hit 11 in the last 11 matches, setting a new Premier league record was introduced. A long punt up field by Hart was flicked

on by Kane, the defender slipped and Vardy ran on played across the box to Sterling who swept home at the far post to make it England 2 Slovenia 0.‘Hart, Kane, Vardy, Oxlade – Chamberlain and Walcott (7 goals in 9 games) are professional,’ remarked an observer. Lallana, though for me, isn’t still quite the part – I’ve only known about one match where he has performed.’ LITHUANIA 0 ENGLAND 3 It wasn’t the most convincing sung Lithuanian anthem and they went down 0-3. Ross Barkley had a good match, was the man of the match and scored the first goal; an excellent 20 yard curler into the corner past Giedrius Arlauskis who plays for Watford’s reserves. The second goal was an own goal when Harry Kane who had been firing shots and testing the keeper all match struck a shot which hit a post and rebounded into the net off the goalkeeper. Oxlade-Chamberlain got the third goal and Jack Butland won his second cap. A disappointing result in Alicante on 14 November, with England going down by 2 goals to 0. A spectacular opener for Spain when Cesc Fabregas chipped through for Mario Gaspar to acrobatically volley into the far corner reminiscent of David Platt against Belgium in Italia 90. However, Raheem Sterling had earlier lost posession which led to the goal. Number 21, Agudo Duran of Celta Vigo came on in the second half for Spain, one of six to watch in European football right now. Poor Distribution And it was his lay-off to Gazorla which set up the second goal for Spain, after a poor chipped Hart clearance had been headed on. Gazorla placed a low curling shot into the net which Joe Hart did not move for. He will be disappointed with his distribution. Rooney came on as a late substitute (cap 108) and Harry Kane had two goal-scoring chances, one narrowly wide and a better chance which Casillas parried and new boy Ali could not follow up to convert. England were poor, half marks at best. Rooney later described the pitch as ‘third division standard.’ As soon as the good teams come… The following Tuesday, England beat France 2-0 in a largely pointless match for obvious reasons. Both goals came in the second half, Delle Ali scored a cracker from 20 yards and made several ball winning challenges in midfield. The ball was played out wide and from the cross Rooney volleyed England’s second. Harry Kane continued to hit at goal on sight and accurately. Jack Butland replaced Joe Hart at half-time for his third cap.

KEY FEATURE Pink & Blue Ball 2015
By Positively Pink & Positively Blue
Positively Pink is a Mijas-based charity and its sole purpose is to raise the necessary funds to provide education, support and FREE breast & prostate screening programmes to British Women & Men who live on the Costa del Sol. So far this year over 550 women accessed the FREE breast screening programme with thankfully only a small number of ladies receiving a positive diagnosis. Some of these ladies have had their treatment and we are pleased to report they are doing well but Positively Pink continues to support those ladies who are still receiving treatment. Positively Blue’s programme to provide education, awareness and support for prostate and testicular cancer has had an overwhelming response to the 400 free appointments that are on offer during 2015, in-fact to-date the charity have funded a total of 300 appointments for prostate cancer screening and educated them all about testicular cancer and the need to self examine. Every year 50,000 women and 300 men will hear the words “you have breast cancer” and 1 man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK alone. The screening programmes are carried out in conjunction with Clinica Medicare, a nurse-led, British Health Centre based in La Cala de Mijas, Dr David Deardon, a UK-trained Specialist and the Head of The British Surgical Clinic and Dr Wolfgang Kleimier, a consultant urologist based in Marbella, all of whom donate their time and expertise to the charity.
Thursday 22nd of October the annual Pink & Blue Ball was held at the fabulous El Oceano Hotel. This amazing event was well supported with over 150 guests who were entertained by a selection of local and international artists including the fantastic Karen Copper, Burlesque Academy and Gilly Jaxson and her band. The evening raised in excess of 23,000 euros on the night and the amount is still rising thanks to the support of local businesses who kindly donated to the auction and raffle as well individuals both here in Spain and the UK. The final tally for this year’s event will not be known until after the auction of the fantastic Elizabeth Taylor items. Lorraine Palmer, the charity President, said “this was an exciting evening and yet again exceeded our expectations on the amount that we raised. We are overwhelmed with the support we have received. The Pink & Blue Ball was a great success thanks to the support of the artists, volunteers and all the fabulous people who came along to generously support the charity as well as all of the local businesses and individuals who gave so generously. Events like this that are well supported ensure that we are able to continue to provide FREE screening programme to all British Expats living on the Costa del Sol. Cancer can affect anyone of us and access to regular screening and education are key in the fight against this terrible disease. A huge THANK YOU to everyone that helped, donated or came along.

KEY FEATURE Looking for the Right TV System? Like many on the Costa del Sol, in the past we had the luxury of a Sky+ Box and Card but with the move to a different satellite quite a while ago now we found that more and more of the channels were disappearing. Coupled with the high Euro/Sterling exchange rate, we decided it was time to move on. We had tried a couple of options in the meantime, but they did not prove to work on a stable basis or if we had a problem, the after-sales service was non-existent. If you are now in a similar position, I am sure the mere thought of looking for the right TV system or finding a reliable TV provider or perhaps even choosing a home entertainment system to suit your budget is a daunting prospect. You may think that you have done the job after browsing the internet for hours but with more and more products on the

As with most things, I am sure we first ask our friends, then even when they give us suggestions, we like to check a little bit more so ask the question of a Facebook group. It is when the same name comes back time and again that you know you have found the needle in the haystack – that is exactly why we decided to use Focus Home Entertainment Solutions to find us a solution. Focus Home Entertainment Solutions is now celebrating 10 years’ experience on the coast in the custom audio and video electronics industry. With a solid reputation working with Reece Electronics, Focus is one of the Costa del Sol’s leading Home Entertainment companies. Their dedication and commitment ensures their clients receive the best possible results no matter what the client’s budget. Focus can offer from a simple TV viewing package in your living room through to a dedicated home cinema with lighting control at the touch of a button. “Expanding the boundaries of home entertainment solutions” is their mission statement. The success of Focus Home Entertainment Solutions has come about through a unique combination of creativity, attention to detail and continually working to the highest standards. By providing you with impartial advice on the right equipment, they ensure you get the most out of your viewing and listening experience. We found that Focus Home Entertainment Solutions lived up to our high expectations – a company with several years’ experience under its belt, reliable as they kept to their appointment schedule, knowledgeable as they gave us more than one solution to our viewing requirements and of course competitively priced. They also spent time post installation to ensure that we were both fully au fait with the functionality of our new package. Last, but by no means least, and what seems to be lacking here on the Costa del Sol, is efficient and timely after-sales service. As others recommended Focus Home Entertainment Solutions to us, as a magazine, we have a much bigger voice than one individual, so we would like to recommend Focus Home Entertainment solutions to you, our readers.

KEY MOTOR When a Vehicle Owner Passes Away In the event of a vehicle owner passing away, there is a standard procedure for having the vehicle ownership transferred to a living beneficiary. Article 609 of the Civil Code dictates the modes of acquiring ownership of property succession, and the administrative procedure set out in Article 32.6 of the Reglamento de Vehículos details the process. PROVISIONAL TRANSFER OF A VEHICLE Immediately after a death, the vehicle can be transferred to a new named owner who may not be the long-term benefactor, but may seek ownership on a temporary basis. In this event, the temporary custodian of the vehicle has 90 days in which they must notify the traffic department of this temporary custody and their legal address. The person registering the vehicle must produce the following to the traffic department: • A formal request • The payment for transfer (the prices in 2015 are 52.80 euros for most vehicles, 26.40 euros for mopeds) • Identity documents • Death certificate of the original owner or marriage certificate stating the death • Document proving the possession of the vehicle • Driving licence • ITV card or technical status document of the vehicle • An appointment at the traffic office The new provisional holder is deemed as the subject of any obligations corresponding to the holder of the vehicle. FINAL TRANSFER OF THE VEHICLE The intended permanent vehicle owner must apply for the final transfer of the vehicle within a 90 day period. The intended permanent owner must submit the same documentation as above, but with two additions: • Certificate of liquidation or exemption from inheritance tax.
Provided by n332.es
• Declaration of heirs, or will, accompanied by a certificate of wills, or document stating the award of the vehicle. You must also request a printed official form that will facilitate the transfer of the vehicle by the traffic department on behalf of the state. If the applicant is a minor or incapacitated, the documentation must also include the additional data and signature of the legal guardian or representative. You will also have to pay the fees for the transfer. If the applicant is an individual and a Spanish national, the National Identity Document (DNI) can be used in place of the driving licence. If the applicant is a person of foreign nationality, there are other processes to consider. If a Green Card is in force, that must also be presented, or, failing that, the official Identity of the country of origin (for citizens of other Member States of the European Union, the other States party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation) or Passport or Certificate of Citizenship if you are a citizen of a third country with the Foreigner Identification Number (NIE). You may also have to produce the original document attesting to your home in Spain if you are not registered with foreign identity documents (e.g. certificate of ownership, lease, or police census card or certificate). If the new owner is a legal entity or company, rather than an individual, you will also be required to produce the following: • Original Tax identification card (CIF). • Original ID, passport, identity card and NIE • Original document attesting to power to act on behalf of the company (available from the www.dgt.es website). The process seems a very complicated one, especially given the time frame in which it must be completed, but the process is also a standard administrative procedure and so your advisor or lawyer will be able to advise you further. Always obtain advice from registered, legal representatives in Spain if there is any doubt.

Some Common Scams on the Internet or Email to be avoided Email Scams Some of the earliest forms of cybercrime were email scams, which continue to this day. Here are some of the most common types: 1. Foreign Lottery Scam The foreign lottery scam is one of the most common types of email scams, in which you receive what looks like an official email from a foreign lottery corporation. The subject line offers a congratulatory announcement, and may include the supposed amount of money you’ve “won.” The best way to avoid the common email scam is to realize this one simple rule: If you did not enter the lottery, you will not win the lottery. And even if you do enter the lottery, you probably will not win. 2. Survey Scam This common email scam looks innocent enough. You’ve expressed interest in social issues, such as global warming or the war in the Middle East, and you’ve been sent a survey that requests your input. Why not participate? Unless you’ve specifically requested to be on a survey mailing list, what you’re getting is nothing but spam. When you click on the link to take the sur-

vey, malicious spyware or malware is installed on your computer. Once this occurs, cybercriminals can spy on every move you make on your computer, collecting passwords, bank account information, and more. Suddenly, you may see thousands of dollars worth of charges on your credit card bill for purchases you never made. This is a result of identity theft, and it can ruin your life. 3. PayPal or Online Credit Card/Banking Scam This one got me several years ago, and it was incredibly irritating. At first, you may really believe there’s something wrong with your PayPal account, as you will receive an email that appears to be from PayPal with a warning message such as, “Act now, or your account will be deactivated,” or “Security breach on your account.” This can cause you to panic, open the email, click the link, and log in to your account. The problem is that you’re not really on PayPal’s website, but rather a false website designed to look identical to PayPal. You’ve just given your email address and password to your actual PayPal account to a cybercriminal, who can now use that information to change your password and clean you out. We will list some more in the next issue.

KEY FINANCE Where Has the Year Gone? It’s festive time again and the nights are drawing in, however here in Spain we are lucky as the dark nights only seem to be around for a short period of time. It reminds me that was one of the reasons why I moved to Spain. I certainly don’t miss those long, drawn-out evenings of the UK but at this time of the year I do miss the family ties and Christmas activity. Here at Smart Currency we have been very happy to see our customer base grow and our customers tell us it’s down to being friendly and professional and making people feel welcome when they come to visit at our office in La Cala. Whilst Christmas can be an expensive time, a time when maybe you need to send money back to your family in the UK or transfer money back to your UK bank account to have some spending money when you see your friends and family, then getting the best possible exchange rate will be important and that’s where Smart can help. We can help you transfer your money with better than bank exchange rates and it’s secure and quick. A phone call or a visit to our office can help you save some of those nasty bank charges and help you get a better exchange rate and it’s not just at

By Smart Currency Exchange Christmas, we can help you all year round. With the year behind us have you noticed how the Pound to Euro exchange rate moved this year? In January the interbank rate was around 1.28, then we saw it leap to a high of around 1.44 in July with movement between 1.34 and 1.43 in the last 2 months, so deciding when to transfer can be tricky. Right now of course we are still seeing some improved exchange rates which is great if you are transferring money from the UK to Spain, but not quite so good when sending money back to the UK. To make sure you get the best exchange rate available pop in and talk to us about what your money transfers are and we will provide the best possible guidance and make sure you benefit and save money. At this time of the year we will even throw in a Christmas drink and mince pie but please mention The Key to Mijas Costa. KEY LAW Belgian Court Orders Facebook to Stop Collecting Personal Data from Non-Facebook Users The Brussels tribunal of first instance issued an injunction against Facebook to stop it collecting personal data from non-Facebook users in Belgium. The injunction, initiated by Willem Debeuckelaere, President, Belgium’s Commission for the Protection of Privacy (DPA), takes effect within 48 hours after notification of the judgment which was published on 9 November. If Facebook fails to comply, it faces a fine of 250,000 euros, payable to Belgium’s DPA. The Tribunal says that Facebook’s practice of putting cookies on devices of non-Facebook registered users visiting Facebook violates Belgian data protection law. According to Facebook, these cookies are necessary for security reasons.

billion people around the world. We will appeal this decision and are working to minimise any disruption to people’s access to Facebook in Belgium.” Importantly, the Tribunal ruled, following the view of Belgium’s DPA, that Facebook is subject to Belgian DP law for all its activities in Belgium. Facebook’s lawyers argued in vain that Facebook organises its European activities entirely from its establishment in Dublin, Ireland. Consequently, according to Facebook, it only needs to take into account the Irish data protection legislation under the supervision of Ireland’s Data Protection Authority. But the judge rejected this argument and referred to the decision of the European Court of Justice in the Google Spain case as a precedent.
Belgium’s DPA published on 16 May 2015 a statement which provides the basis for this case. It stated “Since January 2015 the privacy commissions of the Netherlands (the lead authority), Hamburg-Germany and Belgium have worked together as an own-initiative group. France and Spain recently joined the contact group…. Up to this day Facebook refuses to recognise the application of Belgian legislation nor the Belgian Privacy Commission.”
If the decision of the Brussels tribunal is followed in other EU Member States, DPAs in these Member States will now also claim that they are competent to supervise Facebook’s activities in their territory. In practice, this would mean that, as long as European data protection law is not entirely harmonised, Facebook would need to take into account all 28 different data protection regimes in the EU.
A Facebook spokesman said: “We’ve used the data cookie for more than five years to keep Facebook secure for 1.5

KEY FEATURE Blogging for Beginners Blogging (a web-log) is a fabulous way of updating your website and creating a conversation with potential clients, which can spill over into your social media or vice versa. Blogging is nothing to be scared of. Think of it as an online diary of activities and ideas. Once you have the right platform to do it from, you really can write what feels right. Even if you don’t have a traditional offline business, blogging is a great way of passing on your knowledge and opinions. Imagine creating your own Life Story on the web for the grand-kids perhaps! Here are some top tips – 1. Write for yourself – choose a topic you are interested in and write from the heart. It could be about a new product you are selling or an opinion on your niche area, but either way, it needs to matter to you 2. Be consistent – set a content creation calendar for yourself, so that the articles you post on your blog are clearly linked, but different at the same time.
By Fiona Catchpowle 3. Give away your knowledge – don’t be afraid to showcase what you know. Whilst you don’t want to be a ‘show-off’ for the sake of it, sharing your skills is of real added value to the right audience. 4. Use your own voice – stay true to yourself, it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. People don’t follow sites, they follow people. 5. Give it time – the web is a big noisy place and it may take a while to get noticed. You also need time to find your own rhythm and style. 6. Keep it short – short enough to be interesting and long enough to cover the subject, about 300 words minimum and a 1-2 minutes read time length 7. Enjoy it! KEY LAW Minimum Interest Rate Clause Are you aware that the minimum interest rate clause in your mortgage could be costing you approximately euros 1,000 annually? Throughout 2015 the Supreme Court of Spain has dictated 2 sentences ordering several banks to pay back considerable sums of money which they were illegally charging their clients through what is called “minimum interest rate clause” stipulated in their mortgage contracts. The truth is that in this mortgage contract it is established that at no point in time can the variable rate be inferior to a minimum rate fixed by the bank – this tends to be between 3% and 5%, whilst on the other hand the maximum limit is unrealistic – in the majority of cases this is between 7% and 15%. The detriment to the consumer arrives when the Euribor descends below the minimum rate stipulated in the mortgage contract – particularly at this moment in time seeming as the Euribor has descended below 0,5% - and the client has to continue paying as if it were at 3 or 5% because of this “minimum interest rate clause” imposed by the bank. However, the maximum rate will never be reached meaning

that the consumer will never benefit from it and the only beneficiary will ever only be the bank. This banking practice trespasses on the very fundamental principles of banking transparence and contractual good faith, causing a substantial and unjustified imbalance of contractual obligations, generating a loss in the economy of Spanish consumers at the same time. In fact this same minimum interest rate clause has been mainly responsible for the progressive decline of the Euribor; (this being the main variable mortgage reference rate) not having led to a widespread drop in monthly payments. Because of this, LEXLITE LAW FIRM is offering the possibility of demanding the annulment of the minimum interest rate clause and legally claiming back the difference between the amount which should have been paid if the clause had not existed in the first place, and the amount which has been paid up until now. KEY FEATURE Christmas Festivites – Opening Times and Traditions The festive season in Spain includes 5 national Bank Holidays. DECEMBER FIESTAS – 6th December (Día de la Constitución) and 8th December (La Inmaculada Concepción) were the start of the National Bank Holidays this month. 25th December is the other national Bank Holiday during this month in Spain. SHOPPING TIMES - To help you plan your shopping, please note that most supermarkets throughout the Málaga province will be open on 24th December (some only open till lunchtime) but will be closed on December 25th and the hypermarkets and shopping centres will remain open for their normal times (approx. 10.00 – 22.00 hours) but will be closed on 25th December. 26th December, Boxing Day, is not a bank holiday here so opening times will return to normal until the end of the year. Authorised Sunday opening will be on 20th and 27th December. Check with your local stores for opening times. There will be roster chemists open on all the Bank Holidays, check the notice in your local farmacia’s window or call your local police. CHRISTMAS TRADITION - Christmas in Spain can be said to start on 22nd December when the children from the San Ildefonso School will be heard calling out the numbers and prizes of the Christmas Lottery (El Gordo de Navidad). This is probably the most prescribed Spanish lottery during the entire year. And it is estimated that 70% of Spanish adults will chance their luck buying a share of a number. Often an entire village will contribute to buy the whole number and sometimes their number will be one of the lucky ones drawn making each player a millionaire! Although Spain has become more anglicised over the last few years with their decorated Christmas Trees and Father Christmas (Papa Noel) you will still see the traditional Nativity crib scenes (Belén) in private homes, churches and other establishments. The streets in towns are heavily adorned with the Christmas Lights and those in Málaga each year in the Larios district are quite breath-taking and well worth a visit. This year they are said to be the best ever and consist of more than 1.6 million lightbulbs creating a sky of twinkling lights which can be seen from 18.30 to 02.00 hours until 6th January. In Spain the Christmas Turkey Dinner is celebrated with the family on the night of 24th December (Nochebuena). Most people in Spain go to Midnight Mass or ‘La Misa Del Gallo’ (The Mass of the Rooster) which is so called because a rooster was supposed to have crowed on the night that Jesus was born. Most families will eat their main Christmas Dinner before going to the service but like most fiestas in Spain it does involve lots of merriment, food and alcohol! Typically

around this time there will be Turrón (a slab of nougat-type sweet flavoured with almonds, coconut or chocolate and Polverones (little crumbly cakes of marzipan, almonds, chocolate, lemon and other flavours) which are often offered for free to clients at banks and other institutions. To greet a Spaniard with Happy Christmas use either Feliz Navidad o Felices Pascuas. JANUARY 1st January is a National Bank Holiday so all shops and banks will be closed. The New Year’s Eve (Nochevieja) is celebrated in much the same way as other Western cultures and is a night for throwing a party (cotillón) or for meeting in the town squares under the old clock towers when, for each strike of the clock at midnight, one grape must be eaten to give 12 months of good luck. Feliz Año Nuevo is the Spanish greeting for Happy New Year. 6th January is a national Bank Holiday (Epifanía del Señor or Día de Reyes) so shops and banks will be closed. It’s not Father Christmas who comes in the middle of the night leaving the children their presents it’s the Three Kings who bring the gifts just like they brought the baby Jesus the gold, frankincense and myrrh. Traditionally on the night of 5th January the children will leave out their shoes that are stuffed with straw for the Three Kings’ camels to eat. In place of the straw should be the presents. Sometimes if a child has been naughty the Three Kings will leave a piece of coal made out of sugar. To celebrate the Epiphany (Twelfth Night) in Spain on the night of 5th January there are also often parades of colourful floats in most towns and cities featuring the Three Kings who throw sweeties to the children lining the roadsides and paths. The parades usually start around 5.30pm but check with your local Tourist Office for exact timings and routes. A special sweet loaf (Roscón de Reyes) in the shape of a crown with fruit and nuts on top and filled with chocolate or whipped cream is eaten on the Epiphany. There’s supposed to be a gold coin inside it and it’s said that the person who finds the coin will have good luck throughout the year in much the saw way as traditionally the British Christmas Pudding will contains coins. Apart from these National Bank Holidays, 28th December (Día de los Santos Inocentes) is the equivalent of April Fools’ Day but not a Bank Holiday. People will try to trick each other into believing silly stories and practical jokes. Often the media will also run silly stories to try and dupe the readers, listeners or viewers. If you manage to trick someone, you say ‘inocente, inocente’.

KEY FEATURE Being a Part of the Cudeca Goldies I was asked earlier this year by Ali Meehan of Costa Women if I could attend a meeting at Lew Hoad to discuss some events were being organised in the autumn by a group of ladies called “The Golden Girls” who collaborated with Cudeca Hospice to raise funds for the charity. The first event I attended was the Royal Ascot Event at the Tamisa Golf Hotel. Things have things moved on at such a pace from there that the “girls” have now been joined by some “boys” too and we are now collectively known as “The Cudeca Goldies”. One thing I learned and which many people don’t seem to know is that Cudeca

Hospice caters for patients with any terminal illnesses, not just cancer. Another thing that I learned is that whilst the idea of a Hospice for terminal care is well established and there are many hospices in the UK, Fundacion Cudeca is the only hospice in the whole of Spain! How lucky we are to have the Hospice just up the road in Benalmadena. The Cudeca Goldies motto is “Putting the Fun into Fundraising” and that is exactly what we do, not only during the planning stages of an event, but ensuring that everyone who comes to a “Goldies” event will have a

good time and will want to attend the next event, thus securing much needed funds for Cudeca Hospice. We will know the final tally of what has been raised by the “Cudeca Goldies” during 2015 at the end of the year and you will then find this on our mobile-friendly website – www.cudecagoldies.com or the Cudeca Goldies Facebook page. If you would like to become a Goldie, attend an event, sponsor an event or help in any way, please feel free to contact us in the first instance by email on info@cudecagoldies.com.
I am sharing our fun-filled year with a collage of the events The Cudeca Goldies have helped put together this autumn and winter together with some photos as well. Cudeca Goldies would like to thank all the venues that allowed us to hold an event this year, together with the sponsors, entertainers, Cudeca Volunteers and anyone else that has helped make 2015 a successful year for the Cudeca Goldies. Please visit our website or Facebook page for forthcoming events for Spring 2016.

KEY NEWS 4 PAWS ADOPTIONS

If you turn to page 36 of this magazine, you will see that one of the ways she does this is by giving away a 10-night Cruise as a raffle prize. This is now the 4th year that the cruise has been offered in the raffle, so if you fancy your chances, please contact Stacey to buy your ticket. The New Year’s Day sponsored swim will celebrate its 10th year on 1st January 2016. Again if you would like to take part in the swim or simply be there to sponsor of cheer the swimmers on and enjoy a fun day at the Caribbean Bar, please again see page 36 for further details.

CUDECA GOLDIES
are a group of accomplished people who have come together to put the fun into fundraising for Cudeca Hospice. In the UK we are all familiar with the work of hospices which ease the suffering of terminally ill patients in their final days. In fact if you search the internet, you will probably find a hospice not very far from your home. Did you know however that Cudeca is the only hospice in the whole of Spain? Did you also know that Cudeca cares for patients with all terminal illnesses, not just cancer? None of us know what is in store for us or our loved ones further down the line, so it is reassuring to know that the only hospice in Spain is right on our doorstep. The following information is provided by Cudeca Hospice – “The Palliative care offered by Cudeca is totally free. The value of the average cost per patient attended to in their home is 1275 Euros, the cost of a patient in our hospice centre is 2100 Euros a week. Every year, hundreds of people that suffer Cancer in an advanced stage in Malaga need special care that Cudeca Hospice offers the patient and their family through a professional team of Doctors, Psycologists, nurses, and volunteers”. Cudeca now has 5 homecare teams as well as the upkeep of the Cudeca premises, maintenance of equipment, professional staff salaries etc. So you will see that the cost of running the Cudeca Hospice runs into millions of Euro every year. On a brighter note, on pages 72 and 73 you will find my own review as a Cudeca Goldie of what we have achieved in 2015. Cudeca Goldies motto is “putting the fun into fundraising” and that is exactly what we have achieved this year and will continue to do. Please support Cudeca Hospice by attending or sponsoring a Cudeca Goldies event in 2016. We are hearing all sorts of horror stories at the moment of strong-arm tactics used by large corporate entities in the UK on vulnerable people, so my advice is – follow the old adage – charity begins at home – you never know when you and yours may
KMG - FOR ALL YOUR PRINTING NEEDS - TEL 666 666 998 - 952 934 805
need Cudeca’s services so please join in the fun of fundraising. Cudeca Goldies have a website, www. cudecagoldies.com plus a dedicated Facebook page both of which contain details of events past and present. You can book tickets where applicable via Paypal now or simply donate. We look forward to welcoming you to a Cudeca Goldies event in 2016.
