KEY FEATURE Creating Energy
By Ali Meehan, Costa Women
Are you ‘busy over the summer’ or exhausted by the heat? Are your energy reserves heading towards zero? Lack of Energy may affect us throughout the summer as we fight not only the heat, but with the challenge of more traffic on the roads, entertaining children on their long holidays, friends and family and yet still maintaining our work. To help you cope with the summer, here are my top 5 tips for keeping sane in the sun! Take some time out for you Scheduled in “me time” – as the summer gets you out of your usual routine, make sure you schedule in time for you. Block time in your diary, rather than some vague notion of finding 5 minutes amongst the chaos. “Never lose sight of the fact that just ‘being’ is fun.” - Katharine Hepburn”. The Spanish siesta can also help creativity by giving your some time simply to shut off enabling you to wake up refreshed during the day. And for a good sleep keep your mobile devices and computers out of the bedroom too! When do you work best? Some people do their best work first thing in the morning, others in the night-time. Whenever is best for you, avoid us-

ing these quality hours for social media, answering emails, online chats etc. Block book your time to do your creative projects when you work best and get them nailed by following the natural flow of your body clock. Avoid things you aren’t good at We all have things that, strangely, can mean cleaning the cooker is better than completing your end of year accounts. If there are things which you don’t enjoy doing and procrastinate over, there is someone out there who could do it equally well if not better. Use a virtual assistant to get those unwanted projects nailed. Create space for creativity Clear the clutter around you. A cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind. You never know, you might find that piece of paper you have been trying to track down for ages too! Learn how to say no Life over the summer is too short to overcommit yourself. If you start saying no, you get more time to say yes to things to the things, places and projects you care about. Enjoy your summer!

KEY HEALTH All on FOUR . . .
By Belinda Pamos, Sonrisa
Patients often ask me… how many implants do I need to have all lower or upper teeth in a fixed way? Today I will explain to you one of the techniques using less implants that can be used and its benefits: “All on Four “ Rapid improvement in quality of life The All-on-4® treatment concept provides edentulous and soon-to-be edentulous patients with a fixed, full-arch prosthesis on four implants on the day of surgery. This quickly leads to improved patient satisfaction – with regards to function, aesthetics, sense, speech, and self-esteem. Shorter treatment times Two key elements significantly reduce treatment complexity, the number of surgeries, and the overall treatment time: tilt-

ing of the posterior implants avoids the need for time-consuming bone grafting procedures, while immediate loading shortens time to teeth. Lower costs The All-on-4® treatment concept is not only the least timeconsuming treatment option, but also the least costly in comparison with conventional implant treatment modalities of the edentulous and soon-to-be edentulous jaw. Stability even in minimum bone volume By tilting the two posterior implants, longer implants can be used. This increases bone-to-implant contact and avoids vertical bone augmentation. In addition, the tilted implants can be anchored in better quality anterior bone, reduce cantilevers and help avoid important anatomical structures.

KEY HEALTH Do you suffer from Dry Eyes? Do you spend all day working from a computer screen? This alongside wearing contact lenses, medical conditions, laser eye surgery and even simply the ageing processes are all common causes of dry eyes. If you experience a dry, gritty feeling, itching, stinging or redness, or constantly watering eyes then you may suffer from a dry eye condition. The good news is that there is a natural solution, which is used by thousands of people for dry eyes, dry mouth and intimate dryness. Dry Eyes and Omega 7 SBA24 Dry eye conditions affect around one in ten people and the condition is 50 per cent more prevalent in women compared to men. Research has shown that Omega 7 SBA24 effectively relieves symptoms of dryness, removing the need for eye drops. Omega 7 SBA24 is a nutritional supplement prepared from the berries of the sea buckthorn plant. Modern research has found that sea buckthorn oil is essential for the health of the body’s mucus membranes, which form the protective lining of the eyes, mouth, digestive and female reproductive tracts, giving protection against infection and dryness. Omega 7 SBA24 can also provide relief from dryness affecting the mouth, skin (conditions such as eczema and psoriasis), intimate areas (such as intimate dryness during the menopause) and digestive complaints such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Crohn’s disease. Who would have thought that a tiny orange berry could contain so much powerful goodness? Omega 7 SBA24 – The gold standard The natural oil in Pharma Nord’s Omega 7 is derived from both the pulp and seeds of the sea buckthorn berry. This combination is called SBA24 sea buckthorn oil, it’s a unique standardised oil containing all omega fatty acids in a balanced ratio. It is the gold standard for quality and the formulation used in clinical trials. Did you know? 98% of customers would recommend Pharma Nord’s Omega 7! Feedback came from over 5360 respondents to a survey. That’s high praise indeed for a natural product! Omega 7 SBA24 - “I just wouldn’t be without them” Claire Pentecost suffered with dry eyes her whole adult life and thought she had tried everything. Then she discovered Omega 7 SBA24. “When I woke up my eyes would be bright red and bloodshot and feel dry and sore. As the day went on, I could only ever describe them as feeling very ‘hot’. It made me feel like I needed to squint my eyes, I just wanted to shut them. They didn’t itch or water, but I was always aware of how they felt and knew that they must be looking red and sore. I would use drops every few hours at least throughout the day until I went to bed. I also tried not wearing make-up or only using
By Pharma Nord
make-up for sensitive eyes. It was frustrating. “I spoke to several opticians over the years and was even referred to the eye hospital after seeing my GP. But it mainly drew a blank. They couldn’t explain why it was happening other than I must just have quite dry eyes and it was just one of those things. I have tried most eye drops including anti-allergy drops, antibiotic drops and the newer eye mists. None made more than a very temporary difference. “I was walking past a chemist and saw a blackboard outside advertising the Omega 7 to help with dry eyes. The sales assistant told me great things and I couldn’t be more pleased with them. I hope I will never be without them as they have made a genuine difference and I hardly use my drops anymore which is incredible. “After the first couple of weeks I couldn’t quite believe it could be so much better. My eyes didn’t feel uncomfortable and sore and I kept looking in the mirror to check if they were red yet - and they weren’t! Now I just wouldn’t be without them.” For more information visit www.omega7.co.uk or to purchase visit Anni’s Vital Shop.

KEY HEALTH What is Ear Candling?
By Patricia Kaines
I have been qualified in Thermal Auricular Therapy – its official title – since 2007. I was drawn to this therapy primarily because of the stories I had heard from friends after they had had their ears syringed at their local GPs surgery. One reason that ear candling is better than ear syringing is because it draws out the wax whereas syringing involves shooting water into the ears. This can lodge wax particles further inside the ear canal if not performed correctly, and cause infection if water stays lodged inside the ear. I have had very good results with ear candling and it is definitely the treatment that I choose whenever I have ear problems. There are many benefits of ear candling. It has helped people with sinus congestion, colds, ear aches and infections, headaches, lymphatic congestion, sore throats, mucus, balance and equilibrium, and also assisting with relieving swimmer’s ear which is very prevalent at this time of the year. Frequent fliers also find this treatment very beneficial. It is safe, simple and natural. It is a soothing experience that reduces stress and tension and also sharpens mental function. The use of ear candles is thought to be thousands of years old and was seen in Egypt, Greece and Rome. The treatment is very relax-
14
KEY TO MIJAS COSTA
ing. The client need only concern themself with lying fairly still in a comfortable position whilst the candle is gently inserted in their ear. When lit, the candles have a slight sucking action often referred as the ‘chimney principle’, drawing out impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. Some of the wax can be found in the lower section of the candle after removal from the ear, or some could even work its way up to the surface 24-48 hours later. The rising air inside the ear sets up a vibration which gently massages the eardrum. This can help to regulate the pressures involved inside the ear. The flow of air within the candle creates a circulation of concentrated vapour. This is both soothing and calming and protects the irritated areas. I always use Biosun ear candles which are guaranteed to be of a consistently high standard. I always include Manual Lymphatic Drainage of the face as this further assists with drainage of the ears. KEY FEATURE My Funny Mushroom Man
By Barbara Franken, Creative Visionary & Master Creator
Your Magnificent Self… A Journey to Freedom is my first book that shares my magical journey, Awakening, Integrating and Living an Enlightening life. I perceived nine Elemental Beings, all aspects of myself… who came to help me remember the truth of WHO IAM, what life is ALL about and how we are each creators of our own life. My funny mushroom man suddenly appeared on my canvas when I was painting with my grandchildren in America. I asked my granddaughter what his name was and she replied without hesitation… Danny. He was a playful character that came to remind me how important it is to spend time with Self, particularly in nature and to feel the harmony of ALL life that each person is a part of. Danny showed me how to balance my Body Consciousness; Body, Mind and Spirit… by connecting with the harmony of my Environment; the harmony and joy that IAM within. My first thought was… how do I connect with the Environment? AND... when you ask you receive a clear answer… by playing, singing and dancing to your heart’s
content. This is what I did together with my grandchildren and I have never looked back. Being playful, magnificent and having fun is a big part of my life and is incorporated in my MasterCreator Class; a follow up to my book, for the ones who are READY to commit and celebrate their own MasterCreator Self. From 1st August my class is available online and in November I will hold my next local MasterCreator Class at StudioMindBody. My book is available locally from StudioBodyMind in Los Boliches, Tickled Pink in Mijas Pueblo and BookWorld in Puerto Banus. I can promise you an amazing read that will bring you to deep within your own core being. KEY HEALTH Tasty Vegetarian Meals
By Jon Stark
Previously, like a lot of young men, I had a very poor diet. I was the type of person that would drink loads of sugary drinks, goods from the bakery and meat. About three years ago I took up a vegetarian cooking class that changed my way of looking at food. I got to learn how to cook better options of food that still taste good! What I learned was that vegetarian food is knowing how to season your vegetables. That’s why I subsequently took up a nutritionist course - to learn how the body works, what it needs and how to supply it with the right nutrients to keep it in good health. I suggest you start gently and then expand your taste buds! The first thing is that it would be a good idea to add juicing or blending to your diet, which is a great way to add the 7-aday vegetables and fruit that is recommended by any doctor to keep your body health. Why not try mixing a combination of fruit and vegetables? For example, you could add some spinach, 6 strawberries, a cup of water, tsp. maca powder, tsp. Organic Super Mix (it’s made of chlorella, spirulina, barley grass and wheatgrass). You might also want to add a banana or kiwi fruit to taste. The super mix is great for those with an underactive thyroid. It will activate your metabolism thanks to the iodine as well as detoxify your body from the inside from heavy metals and toxins that we absorb from pollution and other contaminents which need a little help to expel them from the body. Another thing we should all try is to add more raw vegetables to our diet. The reason for this is to achieve great enzymes, vitamins, and phytonutrients from your vegetables, that will make your body thrive, not just survive. Here is a very simple, but tasty vegetarian recipe.

Raw Courgette Pasta with Bolognaise Sauce Ingredients Pasta: 1 courgette spiralised in a Spiromat Bolognaise Sauce: 1 tsp Coconut Virgin Extra Oil 1Onion, diced 3 Garlic Cloves, crushed 4 Sun-dried Tomatoes, thinly sliced 1 Red Pepper (2 if small), thinly sliced 4 Fresh Tomatoes, diced 1 cup Natural Cashew Nuts, blended 1 tsp. Himalayan Pink Salt 2 tbsp. Oregano 1 and a half tbsp Cumin Powder ½ tsp. Black Pepper 200ml Tomato Sauce (approx) ½ Cup Water (if necessary) First prepare the Bolognaise, add the coconut oil to a pan with the onion, garlic and red pepper. Fry it all in the pan until it starts to get soft. Add the spices and the sun dried tomatoes. Let it cook slowly. Next add the fresh diced tomatoes and cook for a little longer. Once almost cooked, add the cashews and let it soak up the moisture. Now add the tomato sauce and, if needed, the water. The Bolognaise sauce should be nice and thick. Tip Personally, I like to pass over the Bolognaise sauce with a hand blender and then pulse through it all to make it smooth and creamy. KEY HEALTH Buddha Call
By Mark Bajerski Healer of Hearts
One sunny morning I sat on the beach with a friend working on a new design for my business cards. I often work by the sea where I can truly still my mind and think clearly. On this day, things weren’t going as I’d planned however. I was feeling quite distracted. Instead of focusing on the sea for inspiration, my eyes were drawn towards the mountains to the left of where I was sitting. Looking up, I was almost blinded by a sudden bright glare. It was the glorious reflection of the sun catching the golden- tip of the ‘Stupa’, a beautiful Buddhist temple which stands at the top of the mountain. “Doesn’t that steeple look amazing from here?” I remarked to my friend. I knew the temple - located just a short drive from the mountain pueblo of Benalmadena - though I’d not yet been to visit it. Looking at it elevated high on the mountain and sparkling in the sunlight, it was nothing short of majestic. We continued our work but I truly lacked enthusiasm to focus on the designs. I decided it might be time to leave - really unusual for me as I rarely, if ever, lack enthusiasm for my work. The idea that I would leave the beach within fifteen minutes or so of arriving there is unheard of for me. Though she agreed to do so, my friend was surprised when I asked if we could call it a day – I didn’t feel I’d make any progress by staying there. Walking up from the beach, my eyes continued to be drawn towards the Buddhist temple. I stopped for a moment, taking it all in. It truly was a beautiful sight to behold. Back in the car, we set off home up the mountain road to my village, Mijas Pueblo. I was chatting away happily with my friend, when she suddenly realised I’d taken a wrong turning. “Mark, where are we going?’ she queried. “Oh dear,” I replied, a bit puzzled myself. “I’ll turn back at the next roundabout!” Back into our conversation, of course, I forgot to turn back and instead continued straight on. My friend soon noticed we were now heading into Benalmadena. “You’ve done it again,” she said, laughing. “Oh dear, what’s going on with you today!” “What is up with you today, Mark?” I thought to myself. I really wasn’t concentrating at all. Up ahead, I noticed a familiar sight – the shining gold top of the Buddhist temple. I smiled, realising that this detour was a bit of luck after all. We could turn round by the temple and also have a chance
18
KEY TO MIJAS COSTA
to see it up close. As we drove nearer, we discovered what must have been a hundred or more cars, all heading the same way. A man dressed in Buddhist robes was walking along the roadside. I stopped to ask what was going on. “Today, my brother, four Buddhist Lamas are performing initiations at the temple,” he replied. “Was it enjoyable?” I asked enthusiastically. He smiled and replied, “Park on the left. It begins in five minutes.” Minutes later, I found myself walking effortlessly through a crowd of about two thousand people. I managed to walk straight up to the Lamas, until I was right in front of them. I knew without doubt that the Universe had led me there and reserved a place for me in this divine moment. I was initiated by four of the wisest living Lamas. Receiving this blessing gave me incredible joy - my body tingled from the shock of what had just happened and more so from the immense happiness I felt. The Universe is a truly magical place, bringing people together in a divine moment in time. This was one of those divine moments. Conclusion: Spirit has a plan for each one of us and finds a way to bring us to the right place for many reasons: an experience, a lesson or a divine encounter. These moments may be filled with great joy or, indeed, with heavy challenges. They all have a purpose to help us grow spiritually and to gain a deeper understanding of how and why we are all here. Learning to trust in the greater plan of Spirit brings about a release and creates a deeper calmness in our lives. Whenever you find yourself at a crossroads and frozen by the fear of making the ‘wrong’ decision or choice, let go of that fear - take a leap of faith. It doesn’t matter if you choose left or right – in the end, the light shines brightly both ways. This is now how I live my daily life. I learned a great lesson that day: to trust in the greater plan of the Universe. Mark Bajerski Pure Energy Healing Academy Avda de Mexico 29 Piso 1, Mijas Pueblo www.markbajerski.com Tel 649 369 009

KEY FEATURE Amazing Sound Therapy on the Coast Have you ever experienced a Sound Massage? If you haven’t – it is a MUST TRY! What is Sound Massage and how does it work? Sound massage is based on ancient findings about the effect of sounds, having been applied in the Indian art of healing already more than 5,000 years ago. Following the eastern imagination, the human being developed from sound, so one is sound. Nada Brahma – The World is Sound. Accordingly, only the human being living in harmony with him/herself and his/her environment is in the position to create his/her life in a free and creative way. Christine has trained in a special method, the Peter Hess-Sound Massage. Peter Hess himself developed the Sound Massage during many years of research and practice and adapted it to the needs of people living in the West. Its fields of application extend from the gentle, but highly effective relaxation up to the target-oriented application of pedagogics, therapy and wellness as well as in healthcare and specialised healthcare professions. During the Sound Massage, an atmosphere of safety and well-being is created. It can provide relief from stress, fears, worries, doubts and generally all feelings with a negative impact on our health. It makes us aware again of what our body and our needs are about. Frequently circulating thoughts come to rest and our soul experiences room to develop.
By Christine Heckel
Sound Massage is • a holistic method addressing the body, mind and spirit • effects deep relaxation • facilitates the “letting go” – both physically and mentally releasing pains, blockages and tension • contributes to health promotion: harmonisation, regeneration and vitalisation • supports and improves body perception • encourages self-awareness, original trust, creativity, creative power and motivation Following a short consultation, singing bowls rich in harmonics are placed on the body of the client and gently tapped. The respectively typical frequency ranges of the individual bowls are particularly responsive to certain parts of the body. The harmonious sounds have a calming effect on the body and the spirit. The fine vibrations spread through the entire body and rapidly provide for pleasant relaxation. Christine Heckel is a certified Sound Relaxation Coach and the only representative of the Peter Hess Institute in Germany representing the Peter Hess Academy Spain. KEY FEATURE Dario Meets Artenovumgraphics Summer of 42, the iconic movie based on the memoirs of screenwriter Herman Raucher, often reminds me of my childhood summers, far away from the cosmopolitan area in which I am living now and when I close my eyes I can hear the beautiful theme song by Michel Legrand – an amazing piece, musical instruments blending into a harmonious trip down memory lane. Well back to reality, and knowing that summer has finally arrived on The Costa del Sol, though the temperatures have been high for some time, the official date for the beginning of summer was the 21st of June and the attractive paseos of our coastal town are becoming more crowded by the day. Visitors are arriving in large numbers to spend their vacation and money cheerfully enjoying themselves under the Spanish sun. So whenever I’m in my car and driving along the coast road from Fuengirola heading for Marbella, Puerto Banus or Estepona, I find myself smiling when there’s quite a long queue getting there, as it reminds me that the tourists have decided to pass their time and spend money in these areas whose livelihoods depend on their reputations and popularity. I’ve often heard people complain about summer and tourists, but why should they? It’s because of tourists, our favourite hotels, bars and restaurants earn enough money, so they can stay open all year round and for 10 months we benefit and enjoy these places. So welcome the tourists, let them relax and have fun on our heaven on earth for a few weeks, so that we can enjoy it almost all year round. And talking about enjoying life, I still feel amazed every time I view a stunning painting by Ose del Sol & Mugge Fischer from “Grupo Artenovum” (www.artenovum.com). As you may have read earlier, they are always keen to try something new, to be involved in creative projects, so recently they became involved in a project organised by David Mairs and I “Amsterdam the Musical” and the other exciting project, a new song “Ever Changing World”, especially composed by

myself and David Mairs for the Peace, Justice and Security Foundation based in the Hague. We like working with them as they are always helpful with design and graphic solutions. It’s exactly that aspect of their creativity that has been the centre of their attention for many months, having created a whole new graphic line, under the name of Artenovumgraphics.com. Fantastic colours, motifs, design and daring use of a medium that is a large part of their daily life. Creating a painting on a computer takes lots of skill and imagination, and when Ose & Mugge work with their computer, they never fail to amaze me as they have created different lines in their graphic art, Nature, Pure, Tech, Glass and Real. All their superb artworks can be printed on Methacrylate, Aldibond, Forex, Canvas, paper and a special sound absorbing material made of a special fiberglass. There are so many advantages with Graphic art, and since their presentation a few months ago, at the Hotel Melia Don Pepe in Marbella, they’ve received many orders and many of them, have been custom sized, to fit into the specific environment for the client’s house or office. Their skills have also been taken to a level, where they make 3-D objects, animals etc, to be used as illustrations for books and other graphic works of art. Personally, I always count on them to do my book and CD covers, and as I said, they have never refused to help, assist and support the projects that I present to them. Well yet another plane filled with tourists has arrived at Málaga Airport, this time from Amsterdam, and the city from which our latest musical has adopted its name. I hope the visitors will enjoy their stay here, and perhaps be lucky to catch a glimpse of the Works of Art from Ose del Sol & Mugge Fischer, and when the holidays have ended, and they are back in Amsterdam, with luck they may be able to enjoy the music from “Amsterdam the Musical”, creating bonds between the Costa and Amsterdam. Enjoy your summer. More information: artenovum@artenovum.com.

KEY SPORTS 2016 Euros Report
By Steve Billingham
England kicked off their campaign on June 10 with Russia. And it was all going to plan when an Eric Dier free-kick gave England the lead. However, in the 92nd minute, the Russians headed in an equaliser. Kyle Walker had a solid match at right-back. England then met Wales, a tough and entertaining match with no quarter given. Gareth Bale gave Wales the lead with a 35 yard free-kick which Joe Hart should have saved. Roy Hodgson introduced Sturridge and Vardy at half-time and it paid dividends. Vardy equalised from close range after the ball had flicked off Wales defender Williams’ head to keep him onside. 6 changes were made for the final group game and it didn’t pay off. Vardy started, Rooney was left out and Clyne took the place of Kyle Walker. Wilshere and Henderson were brought into the midfield and it finished 0-0. After defeat in their first match and 5 changes, Northern Ireland hopes had been revived with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine. Gareth Mcauley headed them in front before McGinn made it two in the final minute pouncing on a rebound. Bale scored another goal, his third of the tournament and Wales beat Russia 3-0 to top Group B with 6 points with England second on 5 points. In the Group A match between France and Switzerland, the ball burst after 53 minutes and four Swiss shirts were ripped during the match.
rowly over the bar after 15 minutes. A low 15-yard shot in a crowded penalty area by Kolbein Sigthorsson was fumbled in by Joe Hart, the third goal in the tournament which he should have saved. Sigthorsson had previously hit only two shots in 245 minutes over the three group matches and none of them were on target. Then England’s best move, Rooney released Sturridge down the right and his run and cross was met by a searing Harry Kane volley which keeper Halldorsson did well to get over the bar. Vardy came on after an hour with Jack Wilshere (75% fit?). Rashford came on with six minutes remaining but despite a few pacey runs, the Iceland defence held out for a surprise 2-1 win. Wales surprisingly beat Belgium 3-1 with a great team performance. After a 30-yard thunderbolt, one of the finest goals of the series by Nainggolan after 13 minutes gave Belgium the lead, skipper Ashley Williams powered home a header on the half-hour to level things up. A great flick, turn and strike by Robson-Kanu after 55 minutes gave Wales the lead and Vokes added a third with five minutes remaining. Semi Finals ‘Wales need to press more,’ remarked an observer. Around the 50 minute mark, a short corner was crossed in and Ronaldo powered the header home. A mis-hit Ronaldo shot was diverted in by Nani to extend Portugal’s lead. Just missing that bit of quality in the final third and Aaron Ramsey. No Rambo – No Final.
‘That’s German efficiency for you!’ quipped Gary Lineker. ‘Hope Puma (make of shirts) doesn’t make condoms’, joked Swiss striker, Shaqiri. Mario Gomez scored one but missed plenty of others as Germany beat Northern Ireland 1-0. Northern Ireland were able to qualify as one of the best third place teams. McGinn so effective and influential against Croatia was only given six minutes as a substitute in a more crunch match. Republic of Ireland were also through after a last gasp 1-0 win v Italy. Both the Irish teams were eliminated in the last 16 to Wales (1-0) and to France (2-0) respectively. McGinn did not feature at all against Wales and should have been used more. England took the lead through a Rooney penalty after Sterling had been fouled in the box by the Iceland keeper. Within a minute, a long Gunnerson throw was flicked on and volleyed in by R Sigurdson. A fierce Dele Alli snap-shot fizzed nar-

The second semi-final was between France and Germany. Schweinsteiger started a record 38th match in Major tournament football. Just before half-time, Schweinsteiger went up for a challenge with Evra and was judged to have handballed. A penalty was controversially given and Griezmann sent Neur the wrong way for his fifth goal of the campaign. Shortly after Kante came on, Griezmann made it 2-0 to France after Neur flapped out a cross to his feet. The Final Ronaldo limped off after 20 minutes after colliding with Payet, attempted to play on and was then stretchered off again. Goal-less at half-time, ‘a tame affair’ said a pundit. Griezmann headed over after 65 minutes, a huge chance and on 91 minutes, Gignac hit a post. Into extra time and Quaresma struck a free kick which Lloris palmed onto the crossbar. Eder then drove into the corner to give Portugal the lead. Portugal the champions!

KEY FEATURE So you want to go on a Cruise? Part 2 Here is some more advice on cruise ships from Janis. 1. ‘VIKING SEA’ from Viking Ocean Cruises, well known for river cruising. This smaller 930-passenger ship features multiple dining venues and a true infinity pool that extends off the back of the ship. Fans of Viking River Cruises will know that the design focuses on the same distinctly Scandinavian elements: clean lines, modern simplicity including the ‘Aquavit Terrace’, a popular indoor/outdoor restaurant that can be enjoyed no matter the season. 2. ‘CARNIVAL VISTA’ is a 3,954-passenger ship and will feature the cruise industry’s first IMAX theatre and for family fun features a water tube slide that’s more than 450 feet long and SkyRide, a suspended ride along an open-air track atop the ship. Of course, the regular favourites are all there including Guy’s Burger Joint and a Mexican Cantina restaurant which are joined by and a New England inspired ‘Seafood Shack’.
By Janis Leader, Cruise Expert
3. I am so happy to say that I will be going on the biggest cruise ship in the world ‘THE HARMONY OF THE SEAS’ soon! She takes 5,497 passengers and is part of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class (like Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas). New themed areas await and surprises for the active cruisers like three slides collectively called “The Perfect Storm,” as well as a 10-story spiral slide called “The Abyss.” The Harmony is completely high-tech, with the high-speed Internet service Royal Caribbean says allows passengers to surf, share and even stream at speeds equal to those on land - still a relative rarity at sea. I really like the new idea of wristbands that are used as your cabin key and to pay for onboard purchases. I have already been on the Oasis and the Allure and really can’t wait! Janis will be back with more tips in the next issue of the magazine. In the meantime, if you have any questions for Janis, please email the magazine at keymagazine@yahoo.com.

KEY PETS Colloidal Liquid Silver
By Joanna the Dog Groomer
The Uses of Colloidal Liquid Silver in Dogs and why Every Home should have some Colloidal silver damages a pathogen’s ability to metabolize oxygen. Deprived of oxygen, fungi, bacteria and viruses die while the healthy tissue of your dog’s body remains unaffected, meaning your dog’s immune system then takes over to eliminate dead pathogens from the body. It was used by the ancient Romans and Greeks, doctors continued to prescribe it up until the early 20th century and as a antibiotic, it still has its place as colloidal silver use does not encourage the development of anti-biotic resistant strains of bacteria and can often be used alongside other medical treatments, with no documented side affects except a few cases of people turning blue who have drunk the liquid in very high ppm quality over long periods without breaks. The FDA is outnumbered in their desire to stop this age-old natural product that can be produced at home with the correct tools and investment; I am sure you know what I am getting at?? Having used this product myself for over 20 years both for my family and my pets, I am very proud to now produce the highest quality Colloidal Liquid Silver from 12ppm upwards. We are so proud of our product that we are even happy to quality test it in front of you and we bottle our liquid silver in only the highest quality amber bottles. It is also safe for cats and people. Now let’s move on to our top uses for liquid silver in dogs: Anti-itch Spray As an anti-itch spray CLS is soothing, cooling and does not sting so is safe to use on even very sore skin, helping to kill all kinds of germs and can be used as often as you like.

Ear and Eye Infections etc CLS can be used to treat a whole host of problems but we have had wonderful results with chronic ear infections where vet treatment has failed. It can also be used as an emergency treatment for Parvo Virus as it can be given right away until you can get the dog to the vets (very important in the treatment of Parvo). It is also fantastic for all types of tummy problems in dogs, to brush teeth with and to help with the control of fleas/ticks and worms. CLS is also helpful in the prevention of germs and a small amount added to water acts to sterilise. It is wonderful for breeds of dogs with folds of skins as it can be used daily to clean in between them. We sell CLS in amber small droplet bottles suitable for ears and eyes and also spray bottles as well as normal amber bottles from 125ml up to 1 litre. Price start at just 8 Euros. KEY PETS Thinking about getting a Dog? Part 2 Is this a good time to get a dog? If you have young children, you should put extra consideration into getting a dog and even more specifically, what type. Dogs can be super energetic, overly so for many young kids; children also need to be mature enough to care correctly for the dog or you need to be managing the dog and child 100% all the time (you know the news stories that pop up on the TV!) If you travel a lot for your job, or have commitments where you would have to leave him behind a lot, think about waiting until you settle down to consider having a dog. What dog? We would not dream of investing 10,000 Euros on a car that we know nothing about, had no warranty, we had not driven, and was completely unsuitable for our use. Or think about your next mobile phone – you want to know all the features and if it’s right for you before you buy it, no? Often people put more effort into the above than they do their research into which dog! Think about size, breed (and what was it actually bred to do), temperament, age, history and what you want to do with the dog too. Consider if you actually want a puppy or would you prefer to adopt an older dog – maybe
By Donna Saunders – In The Doghouse
one that is already house trained, come out of the testing teenage times, or one who is well adjusted and happy with life already. Maybe their human has died and they need someone to love them again. Will your home environment work for the dog you have in mind? The dog’s size relative to the size of your living space is not the only factor to think about here. Small dogs such as terriers, for example, are active and need a lot of stimulation to be calm. Some small dogs tend to bark at any noise, which could be a problem for you, or for your neighbours. On the flip side, there are some big dogs that are very mellow and quite happy to sleep on the couch all day. Do some research into what different dogs need to make sure that your living situation is suitable, and that the dog you want fits into your current lifestyle. Donna will be giving more advice on whether owning a dog is suitable for you in the next issue of the magazine. In the meantime you can contact her via the website www.inthedoghousedtc.com or find her on Facebook https://www. facebook.com/ITDHDTC/.

Driving licences will have to be renewed every 5 years for the over 65´s, rather than every 10 years for those under the age bracket. However, the 5 year renewal is based on a person of optimum health; the examination may result in a forced renewal every 2, 3 or 4 years, which may alter after each renewal depending on how health has declined. The over 65´s must also provide a certificate from the family doctor in the case of having been diagnosed with a chronic disease which may affect driving ability, if they have had cataract surgery or heart surgery, and if they are diabetic or taking medications such as Sintrom or other anticoagulant drugs.

KEY LAW Personal Data Handling by Companies Implied (Tacit) Consent vs. Express Consent The new EU Regulation on the protection of personal data came into force on 24 May 2016. However, it shall not apply until June 2018. Meanwhile EU Member States have to transpose it into their national law by 6 May 2018. The director of the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), Mar España, recommended recently that companies and entities gradually adapt their processes on data protection to the new regulations so that they can detect any difficulties in their application and take measures that allow them to be solved. Consent There is a difference between European regulation and the current Spanish legislation as it relates to consent. The Regulation requires an express and unequivocal declaration of consent by the individual to process their data. Thus tacit (or implied) consent, one of the formulas most used by companies and currently allowed in many circumstances in the Spanish legislation, will be prohibited when the new EU regulation is applied. On a website, express consent is written approval, such as

accepting the websites Privacy Policy by positively checking an “Accept” box. Implied or tacit consent is an assumption of permission to do something that is inferred from an individual’s actions rather than explicitly provided. The Regulation’s text stipulates that where applicable, consents previously obtained only remain valid if obtained respecting the criteria established by the Community rules (i.e. if the consent is expressly given). Web publishing The AEPD believes it will not be necessary to individually request the new express consent requirements to all those for whom it is already doing business (i.e. poll their customers to gain their express consent), but simply publish the regulation on express consent on their website, or through channels that they use to maintain regular communication with their customers, while building in systems to receive express consent in their websites. With this recommendation, it is hoped that companies will be “up to speed” with their express consents when the EU Regulation comes into force in 2018.

Very quickly they understood that there could be severe consequences in the areas of healthcare, pensions, property, taxes, residency status, citizenship and many other areas as a result of the Brexit vote, so sought to collaborate with experts in these fields to provide current information on the impact of UK citizens living in Mijas. It soon became apparent that there was a need for such a group in many other regions of Spain where large numbers of UK citizens live and so the name of the group was changed to Brexpats in Spain. In just over 2 weeks the group has gathered over 1400 members. There is also a supporting website – www.brexpats.es. In these few weeks, Brexpats has forged close ties with the Mijas Town Hall, the Mijas Foreign Residents Department, the British Consulate etc as well as access to MP’s and MEP’s in the UK. There has been extensive coverage here in Spain in both the English and Spanish press as well as TV and radio interviews. The Brexpats Group arranged their first meeting to explain their aims and
this was held at The Tamisa Golf Hotel on Wednesday 27th July. This meeting was sponsored by The DeVere Group. Tamisa Golf Hotel kindly provided free refreshments and delicious canapés. 50 people from the group stated their intention to attend; in the event over 200 people attended and a bigger meeting room was hastily arranged. Speakers included the Mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado, head of Mijas Foreigners Dept, Anette Skou, a representative of the British Consulate, Ana Argente legal expert and Jenni van der Mark representing health. Of course we all know that nothing at all will change until the UK triggers Article 50 and from then on we will have a clearer idea of how Brexit will impact the lives of UK citizens living in Spain. The British in Spain play a very important role in the borough of Mijas as they are the largest group of the expat population and the biggest percentage of the tourists who enjoy holidaying in the area, so the local Town Hall is all too aware of the impact that a negative response to the plight of UK expats would have on the finances of the area whose main industry is tourism. It was heartening to hear the mayor’s commitment and offer of close collaboration at the meeting. I believe that the larger the number of voices, the more the impact, so if you have any concerns that you feel could be overlooked but that impact you personally with regard to Brexit, please feel free to join the Brexpats in Spain Facebook group or alternatively visit their website – www.brexpats.es, so that they can take the matter forward with the relevant body.

KEY FEATURE La Cala Life
By Fiona Catchpowle
La Cala de Mijas has, particularly over the last 12 months, developed in to a cosmopolitan bubble bath of eateries and bars yet still holds true to its Spanish traditions and way of life. Compared to 20 years ago even, the landscape has changed beyond belief and along with it La Cala has created its own identity, that seems to have an amazing blend of old and new. Parking may at times be a little tricky these days but, it’s well worth the effort when you walk in to the centre and see the vast choice of cafes, bars, shops and a wide variety of business that now call La Cala de Mijas home. Everywhere is a short distant from the beautiful beach and now thanks to the new boardwalk you can follow the coastline all the way to Calahonda. Last year I started a Facebook page to record the day to day

activities in and around the village. Today with over a 1200 fans the page has taken on a life of its on. As a Facebook Marketing coach I have been blown away by the interactions and overall enthusiasm the project has generated. As we head in to the balmy summer nights we’ll be visiting and filming in different locations so you can find out what’s hot and what’s not. Live video has been a hot favourite so far and we will continue to visit the town and find out as much as we can about the locals and all the La Cala has to offer. There will be, very soon, a matching website to further expand the opportunity to display more key information on La Cala de Mijas and surrounding areas. If you are interested in contributing a blog or photos to the project we would be delighted to hear from you. No experience necessary, just a desire to share your story as a visitor or local, young or old. Please get in touch via email info@lacalalife.today.

THE NEWMARKET RESTAURANT in C/Cartama, La Cala. Open Mon-Sat (except Tuesday) from 6-11pm for Fish & Chips and choice of 5 Curries and on Sunday from 1.30pm for the renowned Sunday Carvery. Many will know Antonio from his restaurant of many years in Mijas Golf. He has recently taken over The Newmarket Restaurant in La Cala which can be found in the road behind the Town Hall and serves firm favourite comfort food that we enjoy back in the UK. The Newmarket is open for Fish & Chips and 5 curries from 6-11pm Monday to Saturday (except Tuesdays). A party of us recently had the opportunity of trying the Fish & Chips and we are still talking about how fresh everything was and we are looking forward to a return visit. The allyou-can-eat Carvery is served every Sunday lunchtime from 1.30pm with a great choice of freshly-cooked meat, plus a selection of potatoes and vegetables, gravy and Yorkshire Pudding. This is also tried, tested and recommended. Warm welcome, good service and excellent food. Events can be catered for at The Newmarket Restaurant. RESTAURANT OF THE ISSUE

ommended. Takeaway service available. I was so pleased
to see that a new Thai Restaurant had opened locally. Many of our readers know that I have been to Thailand on numerous occasions so this review comes as a personal recommendation. We all too often see restaurants purporting to offer Thai food but Lemongrass really does with 2 native Thai chefs in its kitchen. I was very surprised to see Som Tam (Shredded Green Papaya Salad) on the menu and decided to give this one a try. Wow – exactly as I remember it – perfect taste with the small peanuts as well and it packed a punch with the chilli! Other starters include a selection of favourite Thai soups, salads such as Papaya mentioned above or special Thai Chicken Salad, Glass Noodle Salad etc as well as Chicken Satay, Thai Spring Rolls, Thai Fish Cakes or better still, the Mixed Starter for 2. Main courses are made from Chicken, Beef or Lamb, Duck, Prawns or Fish. Personal recommendations include Chicken Green Curry, Crispy Roasted Duck with Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce & Basil Leaves, Stir-fried Prawns with Spring Onion & Ginger and Sweet & Sour Prawns (Thai style has a completely different flavour). There is a good selection of different rice and I particular enjoy the Fried Rice with Eggs. Lemongrass also serves a very good Pad Thai Noodle dish. You are asked how spicy you would like your meal and believe you me, Thai can be VERY spicy, so best to ask for a little bit of spice the first time to see how you go! The Mango with Sticky Rice for Dessert is also delicious. The venue has a closed, glass curtain, outdoor terrace and limited seating indoors (which is air conditioned) so booking is recommended as Lemongrass is already becoming very popular. Although entrance to the restaurant is suitable for the disabled, access to the toilets could prove a challenge. We have already tried Lemograss more than once and each time the food just gets better and better. Please note that delivery is sometimes available early evening (before 8pm) and is planned again after peak holiday season, but please enquire. I am pleased to welcome Lemongrass to the magazine and I was so impressed by the food and service that I decided to bring back the “Restaurant of the Issue” after dining there, so congratulations Lemongrass for being the winner of Key 108 Restaurant of the Issue.

KEY FEATURE 99% of Contact Lens Users Risk Infections through Unhygienic Practices Specsavers Opticas offers advice for how to avoid infections and keep eyes healthy A CDC study of contact lens wearers found that 99% of users surveyed had worn, washed or stored their lenses in unhygienic ways and Specsavers Opticas believes this is also the case for contact lens wearers in Spain. They have issued a warning that it is essential to care for contact lenses properly in order to avoid keratitis, a nasty condition which inflames the cornea and can lead to symptoms such as sore, red, itchy eyes, blurred or reduced vision and difficulty opening the eyes. In order to help contact lens wearers stay healthy, Amrik Sappal from Specsavers Opticas in Fuengirola has shared the following advice. “Contact lenses bring great benefits and are easy to use. Following simple hygiene and care guidelines will keep your eyes healthy and mean that your vision remains clear and the lenses stay comfortable. Your optician will explain how to look after your contacts when you first get them, but here are some simple rules to follow:

• Always wash, rinse and dry your hands thoroughly before removing your contact lenses • Only use them for the recommended time • Never rinse your contact lenses in tap water – you risk getting a severe eye infection • Don’t transfer contact lens solution into smaller travel size bottles as it may no longer be sterile • Never wet your contact lenses with saliva – it’s not sterile and could cause an eye infection • Never wear your contact lenses in the shower or when swimming (unless you use water-tight goggles) If you’re concerned about caring for your lenses properly, try daily disposable lenses which are fresh every day. They are the most hygienic choice and you don’t have to worry about keeping them clean.” Specsavers Opticas offer contact lens health checks, lifestyle advice and also a free trial so you can make sure that the lenses suit you before you buy. KEY FEATURE Citizens Security Law
By Anne Hernández, Costa Help
We should all know by now about the Data Protection Act but on 1st July the new Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana commonly called the ‘gagging law’ and the reformed Código Penal came into force in Spain. It covers a wide range of legally unacceptable actions and plays a very important role on the Internet and social media. Anybody who is even a casual user of social media will have seen some of the truly vindictive and downright wicked comments, criticisms, unsavoury posts and videos made or shared by some and realise how powerful a tool it has become so perhaps it’s for the best but many fear that it is restricting their right to freedom of speech and harkens back to the Franco regime and doesn’t now have a place in a democratic country such as Spain. In brief the most important parts are: · It is prohibited to organise and take part in protests on social media or to participate in the spreading of such messages (article 30.3 Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana). It is understood to also include Whatsapp and similar lines of communication.

· It is prohibited to publish images of the police (article 36.26 Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana). · It is prohibited to habitually consult the internet on terrorism (article 575.2 Código Penal). · It is prohibited on the internet to subvert or undermine crime and disturb the peace (article 573.1 Código Penal). · It is prohibited to take part in acts of piracy and hacking (article 270.1 Código Penal). · It is prohibited to participate in change or use of protected games and other computer protections (article 271.6 Código Penal). · It is prohibited to (article 197.7 Código Penal) share pornographic videos or participate in ‘revenge porn’. Many of these prohibitions carry an incredibly hefty fine of up to 600,000 Euros and even a prison sentence of up to 5 years. So, think before you ‘mouth off’ at someone, share any such messages or videos, partake in unauthorised use or copy (also covered by the Law of Intellectual Property) because you never know who might be listening!

KEY FEATURE Brexpats in Spain Following the surprise vote for Brexit, many of us expats have worries for our future status here in Spain. To some extent we do feel somewhat overlooked. There has been little in either of the campaigns in support of expats in other EU member states and many of us feel totally disenfranchised having been prohibited from voting after residing here for more than 15 years. A group of concerned British residents in Mijas have set-up a group BREXPATS IN SPAIN to act as a line of communication with both the British and Spanish governments to ascertain how all this will eventually affect us. And, whether you are a Leave or Stay supporter, we WILL all be affected
By Anne Hernรกndez, Brexpats in Spain as a result of the outcome, make no mistake about that! In such a short time, the group has made a lot of headway. They have met with Juan Carlos Maldonado, the Mayor of Mijas, who has pledged his 100% support for them and will be opening those important doors in Spain to enable the group to inform and update all expats of developments as they unravel, appeared on TV and radio, in the press and gained the support and compassion of the Spanish. For more information go to our Facebook group BREXPATS IN SPAIN or if you feel you can make a worthy contribution to the group in your area contact: info@brexpats.es, www.brextpats.es

KEY FEATURE Cycling in Mijas Costa
By Anne Hernándex, Costa Help
We can all go and pump iron in the gym or exercise at home, but what better way to keep fit and enjoy the wonderful countryside of Mijas than to go cycling? Cycling, according to medical experts, is kinder on the joints than running, builds cardiovascular fitness, reduces stress, helps us to lose weight, makes our brains stronger and, not only that, it is something we can virtually all do while helping the environment by not using our cars, saving money and not be bothered by the parking problems here in the summer! There are some lovely established cycle trails within Mijas but why not discover Mijas for yourself and venture out with friends or family on your bicycles? Just make sure you use your common sense and be properly equipped for safety - be alert, take care on the roads and indicate, protect your head with a suitable helmet and wear pads on other parts of your body, stay
KEY FEATURE Helping the Environment They talk about the 3R’s, and not as we know from our old schooling. It refers to Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. It does seem to be working because we are seeing far less of the countryside littered with discarded fridges and washing machines though the odd mattress or sofa can still be observed

Where possible, plan your route using the available cycle paths and enjoy it. Happy and safe summer cycling!

Spain, admittedly, has been a bit slower than the UK and other European countries to officially acknowledge the environment but did you know that on the Mijas Town Hall website www.mijas.org there is an entire section dedicated to this. Línea Verde (Green Line) offers all sorts of useful advice, information and help and, if in doubt, the local rules too.

cool, carry water but make sure any other articles you carry are small and light, be visible and wear bright clothing during the day and reflective clothing at night, ride at safe speed in single file, keep a safe distance from any cycles or vehicles in front of you and ideally, always keep your hands on the handlebars and your feet firmly on the pedals. Obviously, don’t use your mobile phones or earphones for listening to music, do not carry passengers and under no circumstances carry any goods or animals which could obstruct your vision or your balance and take extra care with children. I know we can still often see the local cyclists loaded with planks of wood, ladders and everything but the kitchen sink but don’t follow their example!
on occasions. It’s all down to educating the people and that is what the Town Hall is hoping to do, to change our habits and care for our surroundings. Mijas is a beautiful borough and we should all be proud of it. Línea Verde offers important advice on energy and water which, given our extremely dry climate, should be treated as a precious commodity. There’s also guidance on flora and fauna, climate change, noise pollution and sustainable transport so they have given thought to almost every area of the environmental issues that affect us and those in which we can help.
