These may throw up some potential Clients who you can approach again with a reminder about how and where you met and your services. Checking your social media accounts for who has liked, commented and shared your posts may give you a quick list of people to approach for new business too. Send them a personal thank you and ask if you can help at all. Remember its social media – not selfish media. And with that… Holiday cards! Everyone loves a thank you and card. Start now to plan your networking for 2017! There are lots of networking groups meeting on the Costa del Sol. Find the one which is the best fit for your product or service and schedule your time in now to attend their events. Networking has to be a regular practice – turn up, show up and speak up. And final tip... use attraction marketing – rather than the “old fashioned” sales pitches. Become the go to person on a topic. Attract the right people to you. You don’t need thousands, but loyal engaged listeners. These then become an army of advocates who are happy to refer your business to their friends and contacts. KEY HEALTH Diabetes on the Rise, Time to get Wise What is the problem? Diabetes is on the increase, sugar is headline news. Nearly every day there is another story outlining the danger of sugar on the country’s health. Imagine carrying around a kilo of sugar - this is the exact amount that the average person eats in a fortnight. We are fast becoming a nation of addicts, addicts addicted to sugar. Whether this is in the form of sweet treats, processed foods or drinks, the result is the same. One third of the UK population are now classified as pre-diabetic. In fact research from Diabetes UK showed that in 2016 the number of people living with diabetes reached over 4 million, an increase of more than 65% over the past decade. It is also thought that there are over half a million people with undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes. Time to get wise - What you can do to reduce your risk There are natural steps that can be taken to control blood glucose levels and to ensure that we can make the most of available sugars in our foods. With so many therapists here on the coast, it is very difficult to know which one to choose. Word of mouth is always a good start, but it is also important to check the Therapist’s qualifications. Do they attend regular refresher courses? Do they keep abreast of the latest developments in their field? Do they have Public Liability Insurance? Here in Spain, many therapists don’t bother with insurance. Ask yourself, what would happen if an incident occurred during your treatment or even worse, you had a bad reaction after the treatment – what rights would you have? Does your therapist belong to a professional body either here in Spain or in their home country to who they can refer for information, advice or support? So many therapists claim to be experts – don’t be afraid to ask them questions and don’t be put off by the long words! KEY HEALTH Festive Season

Christmas is coming and it’s the time of year that we overeat and indulge in large, heavy meals with alcohol, soft drinks and beer. How you can try not to gain extra weight this season is to eat less meat and add more vegetables to your plate. This will help you digest your food better thanks to the fiber and enzymes of the vegetables. If you choose “raw” as your theme, it will fill you up as much as any meat dish. True, you can eat more vegetables, but this will be OK because vegetables have not got as much fat content. The other things are the festive puddings and Christmas cake that are a treat during this season but cannot be good for your health. If you feel bloated from eating too much, it might possibly be that it’s just the mixture of all the different foods together, or the mixture of your food with something to drink. Try to look at your meal just as a meal, that way you can better digest the food and after an hour passes, you can then drink something. In this way your food has a chance to digest properly. The reason is that if you don’t drink with your meal, you will let your digestive system digest the food and not wash away the gastric acids and enzymes that break down the food. For good digestion, the best thing to do is to drink 30 minutes before your meal and in that way you can manage the thirst that you might get from your meal. I know it’s hard and I’m sure you have never tried this before but it might just help someone with indigestion. Try it for yourself and listen to your body which will let you know if it helps. I personally notice the difference if I have a meal with or without something to drink.

Below is a recipe for Spicy Pumpkin Bread Spicy Pumpkin Bread (Vegetarian) • 2 cups baked pumpkin “meat” • 4 tablespoons coconut oil • 1.5 cups panela sugar • 2 eggs • 2 tablespoons sour cream • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder • 1 1/2 cups spelt whole flour or your preferred whole grain flour • 1 teaspoon baking soda • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder • 2 filter of Yogi tea Classic • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts • 1/2 cup raisins • 1/2 cup chopped dried cranberries or dried chopped apricots Beat together first 6 ingredients until blended. Combine dry ingredients and add the remaining ingredients and stir until dry ingredients are just moistened. Do not over-mix. Preheat oven to 190 degrees and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a cake tester, inserted in centre, comes out clean. KEY ASTROLOGY An Astrological Overview of 2016 and some Key Aspects for 2017 2016 has been challenging for many people both personally and globally and we may still have to face a few more trials and tribulations in the coming months, however there are also some good planetary aspects over the longer term that should prove to be beneficial. We can also help ourselves by taking the line of least resistance i.e. adapting as far as possible to new circumstances if/as they arise as well as making necessary (and often long put-off) changes in our lives. The saying ‘what we resist, will persist’ could not be truer than at this moment in time. So what on Earth is going on! There’s no doubt the UK referendum and US election this year had a lot of people reeling and many are still concerned about the future because the outcome of both events was a surprise and for some just downright shocking. We are living through a period of ‘unknown quantity’, which for some can feel scary or even frightening. We don’t know for sure what’s ahead and that’s the rub, because it’s the ‘not knowing’ and the idea of ‘change’ that is anathema to a lot of people. It may feel chaotic because change is rarely a welcome guest, yet always inevitable because that’s how life evolves... taking us along with it! From an astrological point of view, the potential for what is currently happening globally has been evident for some time. Looking back at the years between 2011and 2015 Pluto (the destroyer and transformer) in the sign of Capricorn (wealth, governments, corporations etc.) was making a challenging aspect to Uranus (the rebel, revolutionary, freedom lover and humanitarian) in the sign of Aries (initiative, courage, action). It was during this period the Arab Spring came into being when the tolerance of ordinary people who had been struggling for decades against authoritarianism and dictatorship finally gave way to anger and the rebellious uprising. Likewise, people in the West have become tired of the way governments operate and the term anti-establishment has become the ‘it’ phrase for 2016! Although it might not appear so, perhaps we are at last witnessing the dawn of some constructive change!

Moving on to 2017 and a brief look at some aspects during the year... Firstly, on a lighter note Jupiter (planet of expansion and luck) is travelling through the sign of Libra (harmony and balance) until October 2017. Libra is also the sign of relationships and with Jupiter’s energy to potentially manifest love, luck and cooperation there will be opportunities to develop a new partnership or enhance an existing one. On the 15th December Mercury turns retrograde in Capricorn for approximately 3 weeks (when a planet turns retrograde it appears to slow down and go backwards in the sky). Ordinarily, Mercury in Capricorn is business-like and well organised, though if too much emphasis is placed on the material plane it could be counterproductive. While Mercury is retrograde in this sign we need to revisit and make necessary changes and adjustments to our structures, goals, ambitions, and the overall way we manage our lives. Like Mercury, we need to slow down and take care not to overlook the finer details during the retrograde period, from reading the small print in a contract to double checking our emails before pressing send! Saturn is the planet of structure, and will be making a positive aspect to Uranus planet of freedom, for much of 2017... this could manifest as uplifting changes in global consciousness, where the collective will and needs are given a boost. Saturn also links positively with Jupiter, planet of growth and expansion so well thought through plans can be sustained in the long term. Overall 2017 is likely to be one of more optimism and goodwill among people... although there will be challenges to overcome, the positive aspects will outweigh the negatives. KEY SPORTS Ryder Cup Reflections

It was a funny sort of tournament. Going 4-0 down was never the ideal start. Rookie Andy Sullivan could have done with winning his opening match and ought to have done – 3 - 1 was better than 4 - 0. But Europe rallied and pulled back to 5 - 4 then went level at 6 ½ - 6 ½. Garcia played some neat irons and chip shots. At the close of the second day’s play, Europe were 9 ½ - 6 ½ down but could easily have been a point or two better off. Westwood missed at least 2 putts from 2 feet, indeed he and Danny Willett missed 4 putts from 4 feet or less in the final 2 holes of their four ball match. Europe led at one point in 7 of the singles matches in the final day’s play but could only put 4 of them to bed. 5 of Europe’s big guns went down 1 up on the final green when it could so easily have been the other way, very tight matches. Westwood went bunker to bunker and chipped awfully, Matt Fitzpatrick never looked totally confident and ‘up for it’ and it was probably a Ryder Cup too early although to be fair he had earned automatic qualification through the rankings. The match between Garcia and Mickelson was excellent and just when you thought Garcia might nick it, Mickelson rolled in from 18 feet. Skipper Darren Clarke top loaded the line-up on the final day; it was all he could do. Thomas Pieters was an inspired pick, he won over a quarter of Europe’s points on his own, it’s just a pity that not all of the rookies or indeed the senior players could step up to the plate. I didn’t think Danny Willett would get up for the singles and he didn’t, which is a shame because in other circumstances and on song he probably had a take of Brooks Koepka in him. Whether USA was 6 points better or not is debatable but 17-11 was the final score. Patrick Reed played a blinder, a USA Monty who rises to the occasion when he plays in stars in stripes and Brandt Snedeker too had an excellent tournament. Kuchar and Dustin Johnson missed a few putts though – but fewer than our lot! The side was picked on ranking and current form which is fair enough, the wild cards Westwood, Kaymer and Pieters all had recent wins and top 5 finishes behind them. These were Europe’s 9 best players plus the 3 wildcards at this time. Cabrera Bello too played well, McIroy holed some monster putts and Stenson and Rose had their moments. Pieters edging out the Donalds, Molinaris, Kjeldsens and G Macs at the time made sense, although Donald had runnered up a PGA and Molinari had won in Italy. Dubuisson played last time in 2014 but was only 12th in the rankings

and wasn’t picked; Jamie Donaldson did well in ’14 but was overlooked this time. I also wonder how someone like an Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnson might fare on the Ryder Cup stage; he seems quite well up for Ryder with all the Beef whooping behind him doesn’t he (like Luke Donald is with Luke). European Masters Darts Peter Wright versus Justin Pipe was an interesting match, contrasting styles: Wright the quicker while Pipe has a slower almost ungainly looking action. Anyway, Wright took a 4-1 lead but Pipe pulled back to lead 5-4. Pipe ought to have won having had 4 match darts but he missed and it was Peter Wright who hit the winning double to edge over 6 - 5.‘The Machine’ was in full evidence as James Wade bashed up the reigning World Champion Gary Anderson 6 - 0 then took German Max Hopp in the next round 10 - 3. ‘Easy as shelling peas’ quipped the commentator as Michael Van Gerwen moved into a 6-2 lead in his match with Gerwen Price. Earlier ‘MVG’ had missed double 12 for a nine dart finish and walked back to the oche as if it was nothing. Van Gerwen hit double top at the fourth time of asking to complete a 10 - 2 victory with an average of nearly 109. Shock of the quarter finals was the 10 - 3 demolition of Phil Taylor by Austrian Mensur Sulovic. An 11-8 semi-final victory over Peter Wright followed including a superb finish of bulls eye, 18, bulls eye in the 18th leg to reach his first Major final. Blink and you’ll miss it However, the final was very one sided, Michael Van Gerwen winning it very quickly by 11-1. Earlier in the rounds Simon Whitlock had double 15 to put him out of the tournament. The tournament took place in Hasselt, Belgium between October 28th and 30th. Peter Wright reached his 7th televised final at the World Series of Darts event held in Glasgow after edging over against Phil Taylor 11-10 in the semi final, after Taylor had missed 7 darts for the match. In the final, Van Gerwen took an 8 - 5 lead but Wright played tidy arrows to break his throw and close the gap to 8 6.Wright got back into the match and when 9 - 10 down had 5 darts at double to level it up. But Van Gerwen who missed more shots than usual (80, 32, 16) eventually hit double 2 with his 10th match dart to win 11-9. ‘I’m sticking with these darts – so watch out!’ said Wright afterwards.

Lowry – A Visionary Artist by Michael Howard LS Lowry is one of Britain’s most popular artists and yet the very familiarity of his work has stopped us looking as closely as we should at this extraordinary artist. In 2011, his 1960 painting of Piccadilly Circus sold at auction for a record £5.6m! In 1968 he rejected a knighthood, one of five offers of honours he would reject in his lifetime, the record for the most honours declined. He was a painter not only of the mills of the industrial North-west but also perhaps the one of the great painters of the human condition himself – the TS Eliot of modern British Art and, perhaps we could even claim him as Britain’s very own Van Gogh! Monday 9th January at 4.30pm at The Salon Varietes Theatre The Ashcan School and American Realism Artists by Tricha Passes The Ashcan School was an artistic movement in the United States during the early twentieth century that is best known for works portraying scenes of daily life in New York, often in the city’s poorer neighbourhoods. A maverick group of painters in New York City set the foundation for depicting the sheer variety and scale of life in the changing, surging metropolis. Tuesday 10th January at 10.30am at The Danish Club, Mijas Photography in Paris: Atget, Man Ray and Brassai by Tricha Passes This lecture will primarily focus on these three photographers whose ground-breaking work captured the feel of Paris from the late 19th century to the fall of France in 1940 and made Paris a centre for innovative photography. Atget’s work is unique on many levels. He was the maker of a great visual catalogue of the fruits of French culture as it survived in and near Paris in the first quarter of this century. Significant members of the art world posed for Man Ray’s camera and he was represented in the first Surrealist exhibition. Brassai photographed the night life of Paris, especially at its more colourful and more disreputable levels. The work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Lee Miller and Berenico Abbott will also be considered. KEY PETS What is Compassionate Grooming? Quite a few people ask me what compassionate grooming is. In this issue I will explain what compassionate grooming means and why after 26 years in the trade I feel able to push forward and try to spread the word that your dog’s grooming experience is important and can greatly affect their emotional health not just during the grooming but long term, causing emotional and behavioural problems in the family home. For example, just one bad experience having a toenail trim can lead to the dog disliking their paws being touched or held, with aggression in this area. When the toenails are trimmed, every care should be taken to ensure the quick isn’t cut. Many people do not know that apart from the bleeding, the nail will be painful and tender for days, much like if we break our own nails past the skin, we all know just how sore and tender your finger can be afterwards. It’s the same for dogs - times that by 2 or 3 or all the toenails and you will have a dog that will be very fearful next time they come to have their toenails trimmed. With dogs that already suffer already with toenail phobia, it can be overcome in only a small % of dogs - in my experience only 30% but believe me, it’s worth trying. Another example is bathing/showering your dog. In my experience, dogs do not like being bathed in cold water and while at the groomers, warm water should always be used, changing the temperature from room temperature to warm, depending on the weather. For dogs suffering with aches and pains due to arthritis or old age, very warm water helps to sooth them much the same as it would us. Here I will try to explain the concept of compassionate grooming:

Compassionate grooming is being compassionate to all areas of the grooming experience for the dog. Being compassionate towards anything that may cause discomfort to the dog like pulling at knots or plucking the hair from the ears, cleaning infected ears or dealing with sore skin or dogs that suffer with arthritis and doing your utmost to be gentle and to express your compassion for causing the discomfort. Doing anything you can to reduce any discomfort. Compassionate to the dog’s feelings and how they view what you are doing. Compassionate in how you handle a dog and in trying to bond with the dog through lots of kind words, cuddles and kisses - compassionate with your time in ensuring that the dog has moments in between sections of grooming to express themselves, for example allowing a dog to shake during and after a bath or simply giving them a small break. Be compassionate towards their mistakes and forgive them. Compassionate means simply try to understand how the dog feels and why they react in certain ways. So, you ask, where do I find a compassionate groomer? Ask questions. Look for a personal service rather than a company where dogs are coming and going, meaning high stress levels in the work place for both the dogs and the workers. Choose your groomer, rather than dropping your dog off where there are 1, 2 or 3 different groomers or where groomers change from month to month. Ask that your dog be groomed right away and that you would like to pick them up as soon as they are finished. If that is not possible then ask to see the grooming area and where your dog will stay while they wait to be picked up. Support your groomer not

only in their advice, but in areas they cannot do due to your dog’s fears, for example do not ask your groomer: “Muzzle”, Hold my dog down,” Just do it anyway”. If you know your dog has aggression when having things done. Part of a groomer’s job is to trim, brush and wash your dog’s paws and pads. If we hold your dog down, tie them up, muzzle them, then we break trust and without trust there is no bonding meaning your dog will be under a lot of stress each time they come to the groomers. For some of you this article with my beliefs may seem over the top but I have spent my life working with dogs including many extreme cases where no other groomer has been able to groom their dog and believe me nothing beats working with dogs like this using compassionate grooming. Seeing a dog slowly accept you, trust you, then turn to you and show you love

and affection is worth all the hard work and a good groomer is one of the best investments you can make with your dog as we ensure they stay in top condition and health, spotting health problems like ear infections, dietary problems, ingrown toenails, fungal infections, fleas, ticks, lumps, growths and much more...If you would like to talk to me, please email me, call me or send me a message through my Facebook page. KEY MOTOR Do You Indicate? One of the biggest annoyances of drivers in Spain is when other drivers fail to use their indicators. In Spain, failing to indicate is punishable by a 200 euro fine. It is important to remember that indicators are there in order to “indicate” our intentions, and therefore must be used before any manoeuvre takes place, remember your driving school days, Mirror-Signal-Manoeuvre. Indicating after you have started to slow down or change direction does not give sufficient warning. Equally, it must be remembered that they don´t give us priority over other road users. We must indicate whenever we intend to deviate from our course or direction. In other words, if we are going to turn or change lanes for example. On a roundabout we must signal our intention to leave the roundabout immediately after passing the exit before ours. Pulling out from a parking spot or changing lanes can allow

By n332.es other drivers to assess if they are able to safely alter their course, although caution must still be exercised. Overtaking is one of the most dangerous manoeuvres we can do, especially when the move involves invading the opposing lane. It is important to indicate our intentions to warn other road users who might be considering doing the same thing, especially more vulnerable road users such as motorbikes. Turning into or out of a minor road must always be indicated, whether left or right, in order to also advise other road users, including those we may not have seen, such as pedestrians and cyclists. Remember though, always indicate first and always remember that indicating does not give us a right to move, or change our priority on the road, it simply indicates our intentions to other road users.

KEY LAW Why is our Privacy considered to be a Fundamental Human Right? We can all recognise that individuals act differently when in public and exposed to others than when in places considered to be private. This even applies to our thoughts – we can have private thoughts that we would not want to share with others. Privacy is the right of people to make personal decisions on their own intimate matters. Information privacy is the right of an individual to stop information about themselves from becoming known to people other than those they choose to give the information to. A society in which there was a total lack of privacy would be intolerable; it would be in conflict with our human instincts. However, a society in which there was total privacy would be no society at all. While our privacy can be considered to be a ‘fundamental’ human right, it is not an ‘absolute’ right – a balance is needed. For example, criminal acts should not be protected by the right of privacy. In 1948, following the barbarous acts of the second world war, the United Nations defined the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’, which includes the following: Article 12: ‘No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks’

There is also an increasing trend for companies to monitor their staff’s email and web searching habits as well as monitor their staff through cameras and other such devices. The arguments for and against government monitoring include: For: Prevention of terrorism - If communications between devices can be monitored, the activities of terrorists can be prevented before any terrorist attacks are carried out, and their networks can be disclosed by analysing the traffic flows in the networks. Increased crime detection – Partly due to the placement of CCTV cameras, the success rate of conviction has increased as criminals are more likely to be convicted due to the ability to prove a suspect committed an offence. Against: CCTV cameras displace crime, rather than eliminate it – criminals move to areas where CCTV is not in place. Due to the enormous manpower required to operate and monitor a multitude of surveillance systems, many crimes (even if recorded) go unnoticed for hours, days, or even months.

Our Privacy and the Internet: The Internet threatens privacy in a number of ways, because it is possible to record everything that we do on line. Our homes have always been considered to be a sanctuary of our privacy. That is why ‘wiretapping’ is illegal without a just cause and a court order. The phone wire comes into our home and what goes on in the home is considered to be private. By that token, internet routers in the home should be equally protected from unwanted monitoring of our privacy. Likewise, when we use smartphones outside the home, we would like to think that our conversations are private. An interesting consideration: Who knows you better – Your spouse/partner or your smartphone? Many governments regularly monitor electronic communication as do commercial companies such as Google,

Gathering data about many people in one place (the monitoring centre) provides a vulnerable source of data which could fuel illegal activities if its integrity was compromised (e.g. identity theft; credit card fraud). The same technology used for disclosing networks of terrorists and criminals can be used by repressive regimes for finding dissidents and political dissenters. Data Protection laws and technology advances: There is clearly a conflict between the protection of personal data and the desire of governments to access that data. Legislators are always ‘behind the curve’ of the accelerating technology and use of Big Data. In the face of this conflict and in order to prevent abuses of our privacy, the Data Protection laws must continue to evolve in an effort to keep up with these technology advances.

KEY FEATURE The Festive Season in Spain This festive season in Spain is a busy one and, although attached to many traditions, it is definitely a time to eat, drink and be merry! In the months of December and January Spain celebrates three national Bank Holidays on 6, 8, 25 December and 1 and 6 January. Constitution Day on 6 December marks the anniversary of a referendum held in Spain in 1978 when a new constitution was approved. It was an important step in Spain’s transition to becoming a constitutional monarchy and democracy. Immaculate Conception on 8 December is a holy fiesta. Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854 that this day should celebrate the belief that Mary was born without sin and that God chose her to be Jesus’ mother. The official day for Christmas in Spain is 25 December but other traditions are observed in Spain during this season. El Gordo The Christmas Lottery started in Cádiz in 1812 and has been held ever since and for many the draw on 22 December marks the start of Christmas. The maximum prize is El Gordo (the Fat One) and since 2011 one complete ticket will win the holders 4 million euros which is distributed by the tenth of the ticket that is bought so 400,000 euros would be the winning for one person holding a tenth. Lottery tickets can be bought from July onwards costing 20 euros per tenth of a ticket and the Spanish are very superstitious as to how they buy their ticket - go into the lottery shop with the right foot, insist the ticket is served only in the right hand, carry a sprig of parsley for luck or other talisman that is usually a superstition passed down from their ancestors. At 9.15am on 22 December the numbers are drawn to the singing voices of the children of the Colegio de San Ildefonso, the oldest school in Madrid. If a player has no luck then they chance it again on El Niño (the Child) drawn on 6 January, another traditional lottery that began in 1941. Season’s Festivities Over the years Spain has become more accustomed to the Christmas tree but still the traditional Nativity Scene (Belén) will be a prominent decoration for the season. Some villages get together to create life-sized nativity scenes complete with real animals and people! However elaborate the Belén is, it fundamentally includes the baby Jesus in his crib, the Virgin Mary, the mule and the ox. Sometimes the Three Kings will be shown bringing their gifts to the baby Jesus. Another decorative element apart from the spectacular display of lights that are lit during the last week of November will be the Christmas flower, the poinsettia, and these can be seen planted around roundabouts and in public gardens. The Christmas dinner is the most important day of the year for families and is celebrated on Christmas Eve starting at around 9pm and going on until the early hours of Christmas Day. It is a must for ALL the family to get together so there can be 10, 20 or even more seated at the table. The dinner will consist of several hot and cold starters with wine; the main course will traditionally be turkey but can be lamb washed down with copious amounts of red and white wine or Cava. Traditional sweet foods are almond nougat (turrón) and the crumbly lard-based almond cakes (polvorones and mantecados). A must for Christmas Eve is the visit to church for the midnight mass (Misa de Gallo). Tradition is that a rooster (gallo) crowed to announce that Jesus had been born. After mass it’s all back to continue with the celebrations. 25 December, although a Bank Holiday, is spent recovering from the Christmas Eve celebrations. It is not traditional for children to get their presents on this day but some families will now get Father Christmas (Papá Noel) to give a small gift. 28 December is El Día de Los Inocentes and is the equivalent to the UK’s April Fool’s Day when people will play practical jokes on each other. It traditionally commemorates the killing of the newborn children that King Herod ordered. New Year’s Eve is the next big celebration. Traditionally the ladies will wear red underwear, the colour to bring luck. On the stroke of midnight it is customary to eat 12 grapes, one on each stroke of the clock to bring good luck for each month of the New Year. New Year’s Day is a national Bank Holiday and the day off work is well needed to recover from all the festivities. On 5 January there are processions all over Spain in the evening and the Three Kings throw sweets from the floats to all the people lining the streets. Different areas will have its own variation on the parade. Sometimes the Three Kings will arrive by boat or in the Sierra Nevada they will ski down to the village! The next day, 6 January is the Feast of the Epiphany when the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem bearing their gifts for the baby Jesus. The Spanish children will write to the Three Kings to let them know what presents they want and the night before will put out a pair of shoes filled with straw for the camels. For Spanish children this is the most important day of the year when they wake up to find that the Three Kings have left gifts for them in their house if they have been good or a piece of coal if they have been naughty. On this day they eat the traditional Roscón de Reyes, a pastry shaped in a crown with dried fruits as the jewels with a hidden figurine of baby Jesus inside and whoever finds it is crowned King for the day.

Ginza is open from 12.00 to 24.00. Places around the Teppanyaki spectacle are limited, so it is advisable to book. Food here is consistently of the highest standard, excellent service, Teppanyaki show makes for a very entertaining night out. We visited Ginza recently and the standard of food and service is as good as always.

Kerry’s Sports Bar situated in Urb. Jardines del Puerto in Cabopino. THE place for delicious, home-made, fresh pub grub in the area. Open every day from 10am until late for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Friendly, attentive service. Breakfast at Kerry’s Sports Bar has been tried and

tested by the Key to Mijas Costa team and we were very impressed. Kerry’s Sports Bar takes pride in what they do and everything was freshly cooked and cleanly presented. The Kolossal breakfast included orange juice, a fried slice, hash brown and black pudding and was thoroughly enjoyed! As you would expect from a Sports Bar, there are several large TV Screens plus pool table as well as a large selection of beers, wines and spirits. The venue is airconditioned and is nicely sectioned off including a large, shaded terrace plus families and dogs are welcome. Kerry’s can also accommodate you for celebrations. Kerry’s is also well-known for its Sunday Roast with a selection of good quality meats and fresh vegetables. If you enjoy pub grub, then Kerry’s is the place locally to enjoy it, featuring Sirloin Steak, Lamb Chops, Fish & Chips, Gammon Steak, Liver & Bacon, Curry, Chilli con Carne and Jacket Potatoes to name but I few. I have also heard that the Chips at Kerry’s are the best on the Coast! Lemongrass Recently opened in the Doña Lola complex, Calahonda. Fresh produce and authentic cuisine with Thai chefs. Open every evening* from 6 – 11.30pm. Booking recommended. Takeaway service available. We have eaten at Lemongrass many times and in my opinion, Lemongrass is the best Thai restaurant on the coast with 2 native Thai chefs in its kitchen. Unusually the menu included Som Tam (Shredded Green Papaya Salad) for star ters - exactly as I remember it – perfect taste with the small peanuts as well and it packed a punch with the chilli! Other star ters include a selection of favourite Thai soups, Special Thai Chicken Salad, Glass Noodle Salad etc as well as Chicken Satay, Thai Spring Rolls, Thai Fish Cakes or better still, the Mixed Star ter for 2. Main courses are made from Chicken, Beef or Lamb, Duck, Prawns or Fish. Personal recommendations include Chicken Green Curry, Crispy Roasted Duck with Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce & Basil Leaves, Stir-fried Prawns with Spring Onion & Ginger and Sweet & Sour Prawns (Thai style has a completely different flavour). There is a good selection of different rice and I par ticular enjoy the Fried Rice with Eggs. Lemongrass also serves a very good Pad Thai Noodle dish. Thai food can be VERY spicy, so best to ask for a little bit of spice the first time to see how you go! The Mango with Sticky Rice for Desser t is also delicious. The venue has a closed, glass cur tain, outdoor terrace and limited seating indoors (which is air conditioned) so booking is recommended as Lemongrass is already very popular. Although entrance to the restaurant is suitable for the disabled, access to the toilets could prove a challenge. Please check that delivery is available. The management and staff at Lemongrass wish all their customers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Lemongrass is now closed but will re-open on 3rd February 2017.

The professional Indian Sitar player on a Thursday night adds a good ambience. All is all a good restaurant with freshly prepared food, friendly service and good atmosphere. The management and staff at The Connoisseur Indian Restaurant wish all their customers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The Connoisseur is now closed but will re-open on 3rd February 2017.

THE BLUE MARLIN SEAFOOD RESTAURANT Unique Seafood Restaurant in Torrenueva run by 3 AA Rosette awardwinning chef, Steve Hyatt, and his wife Alison who is front of house. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 6.00pm. Special Earlybird 2-course menu is only 20 Euros per head available from 6-8pm which includes a glass of very good quality house wine. Great new a la carte menu includes Fresh Rock Oysters, the ever-popular Bang Bang Shrimp and for those who prefer a non-fish option, Olive & Duck Liver Paté with Walnut & Orange, Citrus Dressing and Garlic Toast. For main course we would highly recommend the Mixed Fish Grill served with delicious sweet potato chips and also the Cape Malay Dhal Monkfish and Tiger Prawn Curry or then again, Blue Marlin Seafood Stew or perhaps Lobster Thermidor. If you should have any room left for dessert, then the Boozy Bread, Butter and Date Pudding or Crèpes Suzette are highly recommended. It’s that time of year again! 4 Paws Adoptions are raffling a 10-night cruise for the 5th year running.
