KEY FEATURE Knitted Knockers in Spain: Costa del Sol Have you heard about knitted knockers? They are hand knitted (or crocheted) breast prostheses, for ladies who have had a mastectomy, as a comfortable, light-weight alternative to those issued by the health service. They are made in 100% mercerised cotton and filled with non-allergenic polyester. They can be made in any cup size and are available in a range of colours. Best of all, they are totally free to any lady who requests them. Aqua knockers are also available. These are filled with unravelled shower scrunchies, which are perfect for slipping into a swimming costume as they don’t absorb water. Knitted Knockers are the invention of an American lady who was unsatisfied with the heavy synthetic prosthesis provided to her following a mastectomy. A keen knitter herself, she set about designing something better. A few years later, there are now over two hundred knitted knocker groups in twelve countries. Amazing. A wonderful invention and a wonderful idea. Knitted Knockers arrived in Spain in November 2015, formed

by a small group of ladies in the mountain village of Mollina, close to Antequera. During 2016 separate groups were formed in Costa Blanca, Mallorca and finally the Costa del Sol. Ladies who receive knitted knockers are usually thrilled with them and can’t believe what a difference they make to their comfort and confidence. A number of testimonials can be found on our website: www.kkscostadelsol.org. So, if you’re interested in joining us, to either knit or crochet knockers, or would like to order knitted knockers for yourself, a friend or relative, please contact us, either via the contact page on our website, by email: info.spanishknockers@gmail.com or by phoning either Maggie: 639 534 117 or Maria: 616 871 952. We always need help to promote knitted knockers, so if you would like to organise a fundraising event in your area, or could help by displaying our posters, please do let us know. Most importantly, please help us to inform more ladies about knitted knockers. Together we can do this.

KEY FEATURE Make it Happen from 1909 to 2017 International Women’s Day (IWD) has been celebrated on 8th of March every year since 1914. The movement is now in over 100 countries with many countries celebrating the day as an official holiday. The day is a celebration of respect and appreciation of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year the IWD global theme is #BeBoldForChange and Costa Women are joining with 1230 The Women’s Company to “Make it Happen” for International Women’s Day on the Costa del Sol with two events.

So we are happy to announce that they have moved to bigger premises. But don’t worry, they are not far, they are on the same floor just around the corner in a cosy clinic with a pretty sea view, and the same kindness you are already used to!

KEY HEALTH What is Psychotherapy - Is it for me? There are many types of psychotherapy and today at least one in five people will seek this help at some point in their lives. Talking therapy is advocated more within the NHS than ever before; it is now recommended as part of the treatment for those suffering with anxiety and depression as well as addictions to various substances or damaging behaviours. There is a lot of confusion about the differences between psychotherapy, counselling, psycho-analysis and behavioural therapies. Normally, counselling is used to address less serious or profound issues. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy may be used to help change deeply entrenched behaviours which are causing distress to the client. Life Coaching is a form of counselling which some people seek to address a situation they are in, or the management of any goal they have, in order to find alternative ways of achieving it. This can mean changing their whole approach to any given situation which has been informed by their pattern of behaviour or thinking over the years. Psychotherapy is a more profound approach to an issue where the client wants to understand at a more core level, the reasons for their thinking, behaviour or emotional pain. They wish to get to know themselves in a way that leads to better understanding and self-acceptance. Psycho-analysis may have moved on since the days of Freud and Jung, but it is often quoted as being the “inactive approach” where the client assumes the role of patient rather than taking a more active part in the process of therapy. I am sure that today’s analysts would disagree, but in my

By Medicare

experience many people found this approach patronising and judgemental. “Infinitely more important than the answers are the questions; the choice of them, the inner form of them.” Oswald Spengler. Therapy or Counselling should address the whole person, their situation in life and be empathic with a non-judgemental approach. It is not the role for anyone, however well-qualified, to sit in judgement on another. No-one can experience life for us and no-one should tell us how we feel about a situation. A therapist or counsellor should never impose their goals upon a client. They can help us re-construe our experiences in life but never negate the impact of them. Some people find therapy or counselling a threatening process and it is essential that the psychotherapist is skilled in their practice to limit the amount of unnecessary anxiety for the client. It is to be expected that a certain amount of anxiety will be present at any time of change whether this change is positive or negative. Resistance to change is a human response to the unknown and it is essential that anyone thinking about seeing a therapist or counsellor researches well to access one with correct qualifications and insurance in order to be safe in the process of self-discovery. This information can be found by visiting the web sites for the BACP or the UKCP. KEY HEALTH Quality is Key in Q10 Supplements Q10 and its link to health CoQ10 is a naturally occurring vitamin-like substance that plays a key role in supplying the body with its energy requirements. CoQ10 is required by the body for the normal functioning of all tissues and those with the highest energy requirements (heart and muscles) are particularly reliant on an adequate supply. It is also important as a cell membrane protecting antioxidant. Co-enzyme Q10 is found naturally in all the cells of the human body, where it supports the energy metabolism. We are able to produce this in our liver, and we get a certain amount from the food we eat, or indeed you can take a supplement. As people age, the body’s capacity to produce its own CoQ10 is reduced, levels peak in the 20’s and gradually decrease from that point onwards. CoQ10 levels are also depleted by intense exercise, statin use or chronic disease hence the rationale for CoQ10 supplementation. Supported by research Bio-Quinone Q10 was selected for use by both the KiSel 10 Study and the Q-Symbio Study due to its quality and bioavailability. Pharma Nord launched Bio-Quinone Q10 more than 25 years ago; right from the beginning, they worked hard to develop a formula that could ensure the highest level of bio-availability of the active compound. Today, more than 100 published studies document the superior absorption, safety, and effect. The importance of bioavailability Bioavailability is defined as the proportion of an ingested substance that is absorbed from the digestive tract into the bloodstream. For the impact of CoQ10 to be felt, the bio-availability of the supplement is fundamental. To have an impact the coenzyme must be effectively absorbed and used by the body, raising blood Q10 levels to a sufficient level. The only objective measure of bioavailability comes from data obtained in clinical studies of human subjects, as documented in the medical literature. CoQ10 when first supplied is in the form of orange crystals, which cannot be absorbed from the digestive tract. A patented method is then used to disperse the CoQ10 crystals into single molecules, which can then be absorbed. Because CoQ10 is a lipid soluble substance, the crystals are dispersed in a carrier oil, as this aids absorption. However there is a common misconception that mixing CoQ10 with a carrier oil is sufficient to facilitate absorption; as noted above the crystals must first be dispersed, and equally importantly must not reform during the product shelf-life. It should also be noted that CoQ10 in its naturally occurring form cannot be made more water soluble - any structural modification means the molecule is no longer CoQ10. Quality is important Consumers may not be aware of the research or studies behind Q10 and can easily end up buying inexpensive, low quality Q10 supplements that look perfect but are actually a complete waste of money. In fact, if a manufacturer does not know how to handle the Q10 raw material properly during the manufacturing process, the Q10 will form insoluble lumps (or crystals) that are unable to pass through the intestinal barrier and enter the blood.

By Pharma Nord

Oxidised and reduced forms of CoQ10 CoQ10 occurs in the body in two forms, oxidised (ubiquinone) and reduced (ubiquinol). These forms undergo continual interconversion as part of the normal functioning of CoQ10, and neither form is more important than the other. Most people are able to sufficiently absorb CoQ10 in its oxidised (ubiquinone) form, and this is the form on which most randomised controlled clinical trial studies have been based. In this regard, there have been more than 90 clinical trial studies that have used Bio-Quinone CoQ10, confirming the bioavailability, efficacy and safety of this product. Supplementation with the reduced (ubiquinol) form of CoQ10 may be beneficial in people with impaired digestive absorption, for example those with irritable bowel syndrome or the elderly. Relatively few clinical trials have been carried out to date using the ubiquinol form of CoQ10. It should be noted that ubiquinol is extremely sensitive to the effect of air and light. Some products claiming to contain ubiquinol in fact contain ubiquinone – this can be determined by cutting open the capsule; ubiquinol should be white in colour whereas ubiqinone is yellow. Visit www.q10.co.uk / www.q-symbio.com / www.kisel-10. co.uk for more information.

KEY HEALTH Do You Suffer From Text Neck? Humans were designed to stand upright. And yet in this modern world, too many of us spend our days with our heads slumped over for a simple reason - we’re staring at the tiny screen of a Smart phone. Did you know that people spend an average of 2 to 4 hours each day with their neck bent at this unnatural angle while sending or reading emails or texts. That’s approximately 700 to 1,400 hours a year. Teenagers, on the other hand, spend an average of 7.5 hours a day on social media alone! A recent study conducted by Dr. Kenneth Hansraj, head of spine surgery at the New York Spine Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine, states that the average adult head weighs 10 to 12 pounds when it’s in the upright or neutral position. However, because of gravitational pull - the cranium becomes heavier the more you bend your neck - several times heavier, in fact. For every inch you tilt your head forward, the pressure on the spine doubles! His research found that bending your head at a 60 degree angle is putting 60 pounds’ worth of pressure on your cervical spine, the part of the spine above the shoulders. That’s more than the weight of the average 7 year old. Even tilting the head forward a mere 15 degrees puts 27pounds of pressure on your spine. This strain may lead to early wear and tear, disc degeneration, pinched nerves and possibly surgery. Over time it can even flatten or re-

verse the natural curve of the neck. Physios have even come up with a name for this: Text Neck or Coat- hanger Neck. It’s obvious that correct posture is better for your back. According to the researchers, “good posture is defined as ears aligned with the shoulders and the ‘angel wings,’ or the shoulder blades, retracted. Standing tall doesn’t just make you look better, it optimizes your health, too. Experts say that slouching can reduce lung capacity by as much as 30%. A lack of oxygenated blood flowing through the body can potentially lead to vascular disease. You may also increase the risk of headaches or even depression. Gastrointestinal problems can be caused by the pressure placed on the organs when one has bad posture. To counteract these problems associated with having Text Neck, we should be constantly aware of our posture when using our Smart phones/tablets and even laptops. Physios advise to take up Yoga or Pilates or to have regular massages. *Extracts taken from CBS Interactive Inc. KEY HOLISTIC The Psychic World of Gary Williams Don’t expect Hollywood to give up the ghosts. The parade of paranormal entertainment filling American screens - from the movie “Paranormal Activity 2” to television shows such as “Ghost Hunters,” “Psychic Investigators” and “Paranormal State” - is meeting an intense interest in otherworldly experiences, new research shows. More than two-thirds of Americans have paranormal beliefs, sociologists Christopher Bader and F. Carson Mencken of Baylor University and Joseph Baker of East Tennessee State University report in their new book “Paranormal America” from New York University Press. And the interest is only expected to increase, scholars say, with the growth of immigrant populations more open to paranormal beliefs. I am a psychic medium and I predict the future. Not everyone is interested. Those with no religious beliefs, Jewish people and the most committed Christians are among the least likely to believe in UFOs or psychics or spell casters. But a generation of spiritual seekers are opening their minds and bank accounts to beliefs, practices and experiences that are not recognised by science and not associated with mainstream religion. Whether it is a study showing nearly half of Americans believe extraterrestrials absolutely or probably exist, or ghost-hunting groups and documentary producers rushing to find the latest “haunted” house, interest in paranormal phenomena has entered the mainstream.“What we can say with certainty is that we live in a paranormal America,” write Bader, Mencken and Baker. “Put another way, the paranormal is normal.” When you come to see me you sit in my quiet English garden by the sea and I do your cards. I have no idea where the info comes from but people come back years later and say all the stuff comes true. Men hunt, women gather in New Age in the 1980s, the actress Shirley MacLaine was ridiculed for discussing her interest in channelling, reincarnation and UFOs in her book “Out on a Limb.” But research indicates she may have been less a wacky outcast and more representative of the population

than the image ingrained by late-night comics suggested. The average American holds slightly more than two paranormal beliefs, report Bader, Mencken and Baker.” Statistically, those who report a paranormal belief are not the oddballs,” the researchers said, but there are major differences in the types of people who gravitate toward different paranormal phenomena. Bigfoot conventions are almost all-male outings, while psychic affairs attract a largely female audience. The 2005 Baylor Religion Survey found that women are twice as likely as men to believe in astrology, that people can communicate with the dead (a big reason “Medium” lasted for seven TV seasons) and that at least some psychics can foresee the future. Men, on the other hand, are more likely to believe in UFOs. “Women tend to want to improve themselves, to become better people,” said Bader, who is also a director of the Association for Religion Data Archives. “Men tend to want to go out and capture something, to prove it’s real.” In reviewing the research, other findings reported by Bader, Mencken and Baker include: Belief in Bigfoot, ghosts, psychic abilities and other paranormal phenomena declines noticeably with increases in age and income. Unmarried and cohabiting individuals are far more likely to embrace the paranormal. Asked whether they have had any of five paranormal experiences from witnessing a UFO to contacting spirits, the typical unmarried respondent claimed close to two experiences, while the average married respondent had no paranormal experiences. If you pay a visit to me I can pretty much tell you what will happen in the next six months. Overall, the researchers said, conventional lifestyles and stakes in conformity are strong predictors of paranormal beliefs, with highly unconventional people the most likely to turn to otherworldly possibilities beyond the realm of traditional religion. Just the same, I am one of the few people on the Costa del Sol who can predict your future. Gary is available for private readings on 952 93 2600 and on his website www.garywilliamsparanormal.com

KEY HOLISTIC Peter Hess® Quality Therapy Singing Bowls The sound makes the music; the sound frees the soul Nowadays you can find all kinds of singing bowls on the market, crystal bowls, metal bowls, even wood and clay bowls are used for sounding. In the Key to Mijas Costa magazine, December 2016, we have already spoken about the quality therapy singing bowls Christine Heckel is using in her work with clients and patients. In this edition, we would like to talk a little bit more about these special instruments. Singing bowls are used worldwide for meditation, music, relaxation, and personal well-being, before and after yoga, in sound healing and music therapy as well as for personal enjoyment. Besides the different types and origins of singing bowls there are different ways of playing a singing bowl, for example by tapping the rim of the singing bowl with a padded or felt mallet. Often singing bowls are played by the friction of rubbing a wood or leather wrapped mallet around the rim of the bowl to emphasize the harmonic overtones and a continuous ‘singing’ sound. Overtones are the sounds which interest us when using singing bowls for therapy and healing work. Listening to the rich in overtones sounds of the singing bowls people describe: “I

had no more thoughts, - I totally lost sense of time, - my energy field expanded, - somehow I am more relaxed, - I felt like fused with the sound”. - This is when recovery is possible. In the Key to Mijas Costa December 2016 edition we introduced the Peter Hess® Universal Bowl and now we would like to introduce a special and unique bowl, the Peter Hess® Bolo Singing Bowl. This bowl is a special construction with a cut-out hole in the bottom of the bowl, the hole allows for placement on uneven body parts, like knees, shoulders, hips, elbow or heel. The intense relaxing vibrations of this bowl are directed towards the space where the hole is placed. This allows a fabulous liberation of tension, blockages and pains in this respective area. The Peter Hess® Bolo Singing Bowl is available in different sizes. Christine Heckel is the only reseller of Peter Hess® quality singing bowls in Spain and the only representative of the Peter Hess Institute in Germany representing the Peter Hess Academy Spain. In her courses and workshops, she teaches how to use singing bowls for self-application as well as for health professionals. For further information on regular activities, courses and the singing bowls please contact Christine Heckel on +34 667 43 88 29 or write to ch@christine-heckel.com.

KEY SPORTS 2017 Masters

By Steve Billingham

Marco Fu, after recent good form, edged over with Judd Trump 6-5. Fu made breaks of 56 and 64 in 2 of the early frames and still lost them as Trump took a 3-0 lead. Joe Perry reeled off the frames with intricate ball control, cannons and break building in a 6-1 victory over Kyren Wilson, a new addition to the top 16. Neil Robertson enjoyed a rare first round victory this season, 6-3 over Ali Carter. There’s no Magic in Murphy as Hawkins wins 6-1 Only a storming long pink in the sixth frame stopped him from being whitewashed. In the 9th frame of his match with Ronnie O’Sullivan, Neil Robertson was twice warned about the 3 miss rule (3 misses and the frame is forfeited) hitting the red with his third attempt on both occasions. He then potted the black and generally did not have the run of the balls in the match going down 6-3. Mark Allen missed chances and did not play a tight enough safety game against an in-form Marco Fu losing 6-2. A storming second from last long cut red was included in a Fu 140 break. Mark Selby’s hopes of holding the 3 Major titles (World, UK and Masters all at once or the ‘Selby Slam’) were dashed with a 6-3 defeat to Barry Hawkins in the quarters. A 127 clearance by Joe Perry completed a 6-0 demolition of Ding Junhui. An awkward bridged clipped red into the middle pocket the highlight of the break, great cue ball control throughout. Fu met O’Sullivan again in a rematch of the UK semi but O’Sullivan prevailed 6-4. Perry looked down and out as Hawkins led 5-2 and all but had the match in the bag with Perry requiring a snooker. However, Hawkins fouled allowing Perry to pinch the frame. At 5-5 and not ideal on the yellow and green (too straight on it) Perry potted with the rest leaving a tricky brown along the bottom cushion. Perry knocked it in, then the blue in the middle pocket. And although he missed the pink, he was able to cut it into the top pocket at the next visit after Hawkins had attempted a snooker for a 6-5 victory.

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

In the final, Joe Perry found himself 4-1 up on O’Sullivan and should have gone 5. But O’Sullivan took the next 3 frames to level the scores at the midsession interval at 4-4. After the break, O’Sullivan increased his lead to 8-4. Perry rallied and took the next 2 including a 117 break but O’Sullivan replied with a 112 to make the score 9-6. Perry took another frame to reduce the arrears again with two 40 plus breaks but a couple of poor shot selections cost him in the latter stages like a long red down the rail which was always going to stick O’Sullivan up if he missed. Loose safety enabled O’Sullivan to get in and score the winning points for a 10-7 victory, a record 7th Masters title. Fa Cup Round-Up David Silva was instrumental in a 5-0 rout of West Ham by Manchester City in the FA Cup third round. Keeper Caballero still looks shaky though to say the least. A Musa brace put Leicester City through 2-1 against Everton. Lincoln’s Nathan Arnold was played through in stoppage time, rounded Ipswich keeper, Gerken, and slotted home to put Lincoln through to the fourth round, the only goal in this third round replay. Lincoln are currently top of the National League (5th Division) while Ipswich are in the Championship (2nd Division). The tie was played on 17 January. Derby v Leicester - FA Cup Fourth Round After 8 minutes an Albrighton corner was sliced pathetically into his own net by Darren Bent when he had ample time to clear. After 20 minutes, Hughes lofted a ball in after Schmeichel had punched clear Tom Ince’s effort and Bent glanced in an equaliser. An Okasaki run and hit bought a flying save from Scott Carson, the ex England international. After 38 minutes, Jamie Vardy finally attacked but his shot was blocked. Bryson’s left peg shot beat Schmeichel at the far post to give Derby the lead. Okasaki and Gray hit posts for Leicester early in the second half and Riyad Mahrez was introduced after 63 minutes. With 4 minutes remaining, Gray chipped a corner and Morgan headed in for 2-2. Oh, by the way, former Eire keeper, Seamus ‘Jim’ McDonagh’s goalkeeper jersey is up for grabs on Ebay priced around the £200 mark. McDonagh was a predecessor to Pat Bonner in the Eire goal and played in the 1982 and 1986 World Cup qualifiers.

KEY MUSIC TECHNO TOP 5 James Ruskin & Devious 1 – Page 1 Eerie with what sounds like a sax refrain which comes in and out. On the Blueprint label. Christoph – Exodus (True Soul) Lovely dream-like hook line, a tech house type track. Surgeon – Bland Ambition Parts 1-4 Recent release from Surgeon on the Dynamic Tension label, industrial influenced techno. Personal favourite Part 3 (although funkier Part 1 seems to be most popular) has a prominent bleep throughout and straight 4/4 beat.

By Steve Billingham

Blake Baxter – 808 Rhythm 14 Pre Jacking, percussive Detroit techno, off the Machine ep. Parquet Courts – Human Performance Indie punk band from New York on the Rough Trade label. Listen to it at night it says on the sleeve. Highlights include the excellent melodic ‘Human Performance’ which has a bit of Squeeze about it. The short but fresh ‘I was just Here’ with punky guitars and chanted lyrics, ‘One Man No City’, the up temp jolly ‘Pathos Prairie’ and rounding off with the slow Chris Rea –like ‘It’s Gonna Happen’.

KEY MUSIC There’s a Pain in my Heart “There’s a Pain in my Heart” ... is a slight diversion from Insatiable Gravy’s usual uptempo EDM tunes. The song is about love lost and depression, is depicted in fast and slow moving clips in a busy metropolis around London’s busy streets. Gen has tried to capture the hopelessness of addiction and depression even when love is all around...musically

By Genavieve Dupoix originally recorded at 145 beats per minute at half tempo... Mario speeded up the tempo and added strings and guitar, which moved the track from a kind of hip hop to hip hop rock...if there is such a Genre. Anyway more stuff to come, so just Google Insatiable Gravy and pour some into your headphones..! https://youtu.be/Zu3N-kHAx1E.

KEY PETS Adopt & Dog

By Joanna Fluer Oxley

Happy 2017 to you all. I would like to start this year off by dedicating this article to all those wonderful people here on the Costa del Sol and Inland who have dedicated their lives to helping animals in need – there are too many to name! Rescue centres, individual people who foster, adopt or simply just never turn their eyes away from the animal in need found at the side of the road, abandoned, injured, lost etc. Being a dog groomer, it never surprises me just what beautiful dogs are available for adoption here in Spain and I beg you to consider adoption rather than buying. From cross breeds of all shapes and sizes to pedigree dogs like Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, Yorkies, German Shepherds, Boxers, Spanish Water Dogs to name but a few. 60% of my client base is made up of dogs adopted from rescue centres or individual foster homes and hand on heart, there is no feeling like giving a dog a second chance of a new life in a loving home and with lots of love and hard work most of these dogs turn into wonderful family members who thank you

every hour of every day for loving them. For those of you looking to help in any way, please go to my Facebook grooming page – “Compassionate Grooming by Joanna Fluer Oxley, where I have created a photo album with links, names of many rescue centres, pounds, individuals, including rescues of set breeds of dogs here in Spain, or private message me with your area and how you are willing to help and I will point you to your nearest rescue and put you in contact. All the dogs in the photos are rescue dogs, most of which came from terrible abusive homes or that were neglected, ex-breeding dogs, or simply abandoned. I’m sure you will agree their happiness shines through. Together we can make a difference! To book a grooming appointment, please call me on 661 152 451 but bear in mind I am fully booked a week in advance.

KEY FEATURE Registering on the Padrón

By Anne Hernández, President - BREXPATS IN SPAIN

It always amazes me that we ex-pats will come over to Spain to live but not comply with something that is so relatively simple to do but has so many benefits and furthermore, is compulsory! Have you ever wondered who pays for the maintenance of roads, parks and gardens, schools, medical services, police and other public services? The local borough councils do. Quite a big bill you must admit but did you also know that for every registered resident, they get funding from central government? How do they qualify for that funding? By the number of residents on the local census, the Padrón Municipal. So, for us to continue living in wonderful surroundings and without the paths and roads falling into disrepair, or shortage of medical services - something that the UK is certainly going through at the moment with the problems of the NHS - we need to help our councils by registering. It will also help our main economy here (tourism) because the tourists will have a much better impression and will recommend or repeat their experience here and because your area is well

kept and safe and has reliable services, your property will be more desirable! Not only that, you will be needing it at some point because it is a requirement now for so many things we need - to register your children in a school, to register with a doctor, to register a car in your name, to open a bank account - to name but a few. The Padrón is free and has no catches to it; it doesn’t mean that Big Brother is watching us, to the contrary we will all reap the benefits and we get the opportunity to participate in the local elections. Furthermore, some councils offer discounted annual IBI charges to those who are registered. So it’s a win/ win situation! Just take your passport, NIE, IBI receipt or property deeds (Escritura) or, if renting, your rental contract, to the local Council offices and they will do it in a few minutes. It’s that easy. So, fellow ex-pats, no excuses, let’s be seen to support this country that we have chosen to make home. If you have any questions or need assistance in this or any other problem, the experts of BREXPATS IN SPAIN are here to help you.

KEY LAW The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

updates its GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) Guidance

By Victoria Anzola – www.seqqe.com

The ICO has added some information to its GDPR guidance document, indicating the areas where the EU Article 29 Data Protection Working Party will issue guidance, and areas on which the ICO is currently concentrating. The ICO aims to publish guidance in early 2017 on contracts and liability, consent and children’s data. “As we develop the Overview we will treat it as a living document, expanding the text as necessary to cover particular points as they develop. The Overview currently follows the structure of the GDPR; we will add further sections to cover cross cutting issues as necessary e.g. data sharing or profiling,” Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham said. The EU Article 29 Working Party (WP29) is planning the following guidance: 1. Consent 2. Transparency 3. Profiling 4. High risk processing 5. Certification 6. Administrative fines 7. Breach notification 8. Data transfers. “Where we decide it is appropriate to go ahead and develop ICO guidance on issues not currently being considered by the WP29, we will incorporate it into the Overview. This guidance may take some content from existing DP Act guidance, where it is still relevant. In the event that the WP29 decide to consider a topic we have already worked on we will be in a position to provide input based on the products we have already developed, whether that is guidance or background policy thinking as mentioned below,” Denham said. The ICO is currently considering whether it can provide any further detail over and above the Article 29 Working

Party guidelines on Data Protection Officers. See updated guidance at https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/data-protection-reform/ Denham’s lecture on GDPR and accountability, addressed to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, with an emphasis on their role as intermediaries who can influence good practice for their clients, was delivered 17 January, and is at https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/news-and-events/ news-blogs-and-speeches/2017/01/gdpr-and-accountability/ MEPs call for more guidance on GDPR 25/01/2017 Speaking at the CPDP (Computers-Privacy & Data Protection) conference in Brussels today, Axel Voss, MEP and member of the European Parliament’s LIBE committee said that there is an urgent need for more interpretations on the GDPR. He said that the DPAs should clarify concepts very quickly so that the Regulation will come to life. “We also need to think about protecting privacy, not just data protection. Is this possible as a legal definition?” He said that the EU Commission has not fully achieved its goal of harmonisation but also businesses are under a lot of pressure. We should aim for a more balanced position in the implementation period, he said “We need to protect fundamental rights but if only looking at that, it will not be a balanced situation.” “The EU comes up with good intentions but sometimes ends up in overprotecting people, and over regulating - Do we really need an additional e privacy regulation as similar aspects are already in the GDPR?” Michel Boni, MEP, also said that we need a balance between fundamental rights and business interests. In some member states there are many problems with GDPR implementation, he said. Not all stakeholders are involved and there is not always clarity over who is responsible for the package.

Japanese Restaurant Ginza Wide range of authentic Japanese food including Sushi and Sashimi and Teppanyaki Show plus much more in its sophisticated surrounds. Ginza is in Jardin Botanico, La Cala. Decorated to a high standard. Highlight is the Teppanyaki show where exotic food using the best quality ingredients is masterfully prepared on a hot steel plate right in the middle of the table. The chef will show you the unforgettable cooking display called “Teppanyaki”. Pepper pots etc are expertly thrown in the air and you must watch the trick with the eggs. Try to catch a bit of the omelette in your mouth when cooked! This is great fun to experience something a bit different or particularly if there are a few of you. Try one of the specially selected Teppanyaki menus which are great value for money. Ginza is open from 12.00 to 24.00. Places around the Teppanyaki spectacle are limited, so it is advisable to book. Food here is consistently of the highest standard, excellent service, Teppanyaki show makes for a very entertaining night out. We visited Ginza recently and the standard of food and service is as good as always.

Lemongrass Recently opened in the Doña Lola complex, Calahonda. Fresh produce and authentic cuisine with Thai chefs. Open every evening* from 6 – 11.30pm. Booking recommended. Takeaway service available. We have eaten at Lemongrass many times and in my opinion, Lemongrass is the best Thai restaurant on the coast with 2 native Thai chefs in its kitchen. Unusually the menu included Som Tam (Shredded Green Papaya Salad) for starters - exactly as I remember it – perfect taste with the small peanuts as well

and it packed a punch with the chilli! Other starters include a selection of favourite Thai soups, Special Thai Chicken Salad, Glass Noodle Salad etc as well as Chicken Satay, Thai Spring Rolls, Thai Fish Cakes or better still, the Mixed Starter for 2. Main courses are made from Chicken, Beef or Lamb, Duck, Prawns or Fish. Personal recommendations include Chicken Green Curry, Crispy Roasted Duck with Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce & Basil Leaves, Stir-fried Prawns with Spring Onion & Ginger and Sweet & Sour Prawns (Thai style has a completely different flavour). There is a good selection of different rice and I particular enjoy the Fried Rice with Eggs. Lemongrass also serves a very good Pad Thai Noodle dish. Thai food can be VERY spicy, so best to ask for a little bit of spice the first time to see how you go! The Mango with Sticky Rice for Dessert is also delicious. The venue has a closed, glass curtain, outdoor terrace and limited seating indoors (which is air conditioned) so booking is recommended as Lemongrass is already very popular. Although entrance to the restaurant is suitable for the disabled, access to the toilets could prove a challenge. Please check that delivery is available and also if the restaurant is closed on any nights during the winter months.

Le Papillon Restaurant and Beach Club – If you enjoy stunning sunsets and a chilled vibe we recommend heading to Le Papillon!!
