KEY BEAUTY Hair Extensions

By Tracy, Hair Magic

Hair extensions are becoming increasingly popular all over the world and they are one of the main things we specialise in here at Hair Magic. We are very often asked lots

of different questions about them; some of those questions are answered below: Q What types of extensions are there? A There are lots of different types of extensions to choose from, but the two types we do here are micro-rings and prebonded. Micro-rings are attached to the hair with a small bead (and no heat) and pre-bonded are applied with a soft glue. The most popular are the pre-bonded as they last a lot longer! Q Will extensions damage my hair? A No, they won’t damage your hair if they are done correctly with the right amount of tension. It would also depend on how well you look after them! Q What is the cost? A We charge 3.50 Euros per extension. Q How many extensions will I need? A That all depends on the thickness of your natural hair and whether you wanted to add length or just thickness to your hair. The average person would need between 80 to 100 to add length. If you are interested in having extensions or you just have more questions to ask, pop into the salon for a free consultation and we will be more than happy to help.

KEY HEALTH Goodbye FAT!

By Anni’s Vital Shop

What’s in B-SlendaTM? B-SlendaTM contains FibrePrecise ® which is a natural, indigestible fibre taken from shellfish. This patented formula binds fat from the food you eat and therefore reduces your calorie intake. This dramatically improves your chances of burning more calories than you consume and then losing weight.

daTM has been designed to help successful weight loss for:

When you swallow a B-Slenda TM tablet, the special FibrePrecise ® fibres are released into the stomach, where they lie temporarily before moving into the gut. If you eat fatty food after taking B-SlendaTM the fact molecules bind to the special fibres instead of being absorbed. The FibrePecise® is then carried naturally out of the gut, along with the fat that’s bonded to it.

Visit www.b-slenda.co.uk.

With daily use of B-SlendaTM, you can bind a relatively large amount of dietary fat that would otherwise burden your system. The result of integrating this product in your diet is easier weight management in the long run. B-slendaTM is registered as a medical device for reducing obesity and controlling weight as part of a calorie-controlled diet.

- Those with a BMI of 26 or higher. - Maintaining a healthy weight after a diet. - Managing fat intake during times of celebration, holidays and festive indulgences.

Take B-SlendaTM as part of a calorie controlled diet. Always read the label. For advice on healthy weight loss, consult your doctor. “B-SlendaTM is a great addition to any calorie-controlled diet. Just take it with a large glass of water, 30 minutes before you eat. Take 2-3 tablets before one of the three main meals to control weight or 2-3 tablets before two out of three main meals to reduce obesity”. Babi Chana Bsc (Hons) Bsc Nut. Med. has many years’ experience in the nutrition industry as a practitioner, lecturer, businesswoman and writer.

5 Facts about B-SlendaTM FibrePrecise ® Tablets - Fully traceable and sustainable – the ingredients in B-SlendaTM are extracted from freshly caught coldwater shrimp from Icelandic waters. Using a unique processing technology, the raw material is cleaned and the FibrePrecise® extract is made. - The B-SlendaTM raw material is fully traceable. Any tablet from any package can be traced all the way back to the actual fishing vessel that caught the shrimp used to produce the batch. - Clean and safe – The efficacy and quality of B-SlendaTM is carefully monitored and controlled before and during manufacture. - B-SlendaTM is a Certified Medical Device. - All Pharma Nord products contain safe and natural substances produced to pharmaceutical standards. B-SlendaTM is the natural fat magnet. How B-Slenda works. 1) Swallow a B-SlendaTM tablet before a fatty meal. 2) B-Slenda binds the fat in the stomach. 3) The bound fat is then passed from your system. Magnetic effect on fat B-SlendaTM consists of the active substance polyglucosamine. This binds dietary fat in the intestine (kind of like a magnet) before the body has the opportunity to absorb the fat. Instead, the fat is excreted in the natural way. KEY FEATURE Age Care Association Age Care Association is a fully registered caring organisation helping older people who may not always be able to help themselves. There are literally thousands of British expatriates living in the Province of Malaga as it is a popular retirement destination. From our experience many of them seek our help in a variety of ways. KEY HEALTH Simple Pain Relief Freddy was born and lived in Denmark for most of his life and owned and worked in a Clinic for many years in his home country. He moved to the Costa del Sol over 15 years ago. His specialist field is Acupuncture. Freddy has always enjoyed the science behind all types of medicine, particularly alternative treatments. Freddy has perfected a very simple technique not only for pain relief, but also for aesthetic treatments that you can use yourself in the comfort of your own home. The technique combines a Beauty Laser pen together with acupuncture points for maximum efficiency although you can simply massage localised areas with the pen too! It’s just so simple that you could for instance use it during the time that you are watching the evening news on television!

By Freddy Dahlgren The Beauty Laser pen treatment is inexpensive, safe and pain free. By the next issue I will have experienced the treatment myself so hope to be able to report from personal experience. The pen may also be of interest to beauty therapists. If you have any questions or for further information, consultation etc, please contact Freddy. The Beauty Laser pen is on special offer until 31st December. See the advertisement aside for more information.

In future issues I am hoping that we can bring to you some in depth explanations about various illnesses and the way in which the Beauty Laser pen combined with acupuncture can help. Freddy has some very interesting anecdotes and one in particular was about a friend who could not play golf on a particular morning as he was suffering from a frozen shoulder but came along anyway for breakfast etc. Freddy lent him the pen while he was playing his round of golf and lo and behold his friend came to join them some time later to say that he felt much better and could he join in the game! Starting from the top of the body, with the head in this issue, the Beauty Laser pen either localised or combined with the acupuncture points where appropriate can help alleviate eye disorders, in particular vision and cataracts. It is particularly helpful in alleviating migraines, neck pain, acne, gingivitis, herpes, scars, sinusitis, panaritium (inflamed nail bed), sunburn and can even reduce wrinkles. So you can see there are many uses for the pen from ailments that cause severe pain to reducing the unsightly scars of acne. The treatment time is very short and as indicated, you can use the pen whilst sitting comfortably in front of the television watching your favourite programme. It really is that easy!

KEY HEALTH What Does Kinesio Taping Do? Kinesio Taping gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is also used for Preventive Maintenance, Edema, and to treat pain. Kinesio Taping is a technique based on the body’s own natural healing process. This Kinesio Taping exhibits its efficacy through the activation of neurological and circulatory systems. This method basically stems from the science of Kinesiology, hence the name “Kinesio”. Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body but also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms. Consequently, so much attention was given to the importance of muscle function that the idea of treating the muscles in order to activate the body’s own healing process came about. Using an elastic tape, it was discovered that muscles and other tissues could be helped by outside assistance. Employment of Kinesio Taping creates a totally new approach to treating nerves, muscles, and organs. The first application of Kinesio Taping was for a patient with articular disorders. For the first 10 years, orthopedists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and other medical practitioners were the main users of Kinesio Taping. Soon thereafter, Kinesio Taping was used by the

16

Japanese Olympic volleyball players and word quickly spread to other athletes. Today, Kinesio Taping is used by medical practitioners and athletes around the world. The Kinesio Taping Method is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement on a 24hr/day basis. It is a non-restrictive type of taping which allows for full range of motion. In contrast, traditional sports’ taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during a sporting event obstructing the flow of bodily fluids as an UNDESIRABLE side-effect. Kinesio Tape is used for anything from headaches to foot problems and everything in between. Examples include: muscular facilitation or inhibition in pediatric patients, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (subluxations, herniated disc), knee conditions, shoulder conditions, hamstring, groin injury, rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, patella tracking, pre and post surgical edema, ankle sprains, athletic preventative injury method, and as a support method. It is not expensive and takes only 20 minutes to evaluate the problem and apply the tape, which remains on the body for up to 6 days. It is pain free, and benefits can be felt immediately.

KEY HEALTH Zirconium Crowns

By Chris Weir, Sonrisa

There have been many different types of crowns used in dentistry, but they all have had disadvantages. The strongest and most durable crowns have been the porcelain fused to ceramic type. The biggest disadvantage of these crowns is the aesthetic appearance, they don’t transmit light like natural teeth so they are not as natural looking, and after a few years they show a black margin which is unsightly. The all porcelain crowns have weaknesses and are prone to fracture under stress.

ideal for replacing tooth substance. It has high hardness and tensile strength and is a good insulator which reduces the chance of sensitivity.

But now we have a new crown material called Zirconium. It is very strong and can be used anywhere in the dentition.

The crown is made up from a thin shell of zirconium (a coping) with a softer porcelain layer fused on top to give a very strong natural looking restoration. Zirconium can also be used for multi-unit bridges to replace missing teeth and for veneers.

Advantages of Zirconium: 1. Very strong material 2. Has very good aesthetics 3. The cement line is thin and doesn’t show a black line 4. Less tooth has to be removed for the crown preparation 5. It is biocompatible and non allergenic 6. It is translucent like natural teeth The material, Zirconium, is often referred to as ceramic steel because it is so strong. The colour is white/ ivory which is

20

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

2. We have had over 20 years experience of the material because it has been used in the medical profession for hip replacements with no adverse reactions, and is bio-compatible. It is made from zirconium oxide, which is a ceramic material which was used extensively in the aero-space industry.

3. The bottom line is they are they more expensive. Yes, they cost a little more than porcelain/metal ceramic crowns, but they will last longer and you won’t get the horrible black margin showing after a few years. One of the most common reasons for replacing porcelain/metal ceramic crowns is not failure of the crown, but the unsightly appearance of the black margins that show after a few years as the gum margin recedes.

There are about 200 different musculoskeletal conditions, which fall into 5 main groups but osteopaths generally see the 2 most frequent types of ar thritis, inflammatory and mechanical/ degenerative. Inflammatory Arthritis A condition where your body’s immune system produces inflammation that causes joints to become swollen and damaged. This can often occur for no obvious reason and can affect ligaments surrounding the swollen joint. A common example is rheumatoid ar thritis, which affects around 400,000 people in the UK. Other examples include reactive ar thritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ar thritis associated with colitis or psoriasis.

Osteopaths cannot repair the damage already caused but can alleviate a lot of the pain associated with the changes around the joint (in my opinion/experience about 80%) because a lot of the pain comes from tight muscles and overstrained ligaments and postural changes created by the patient trying to avoid the original pain from the joint. So by working around the affected area, a lot of the pain associated with it can be eased by treatment. Often patients need to see the osteopath once every 3-4 months to maintain the improvement and to prevent further degeneration in the joint. Other interventions can also help like dietary or shoe implant advice, exercise to increase muscle strength and joint stability, taking supplements like collagen, chondroitin or glucosamine sulphate, or mechanical treatments to stimulate cartilage regeneration are also available and your osteopath should be able to help and advise you as to what’s best for you.

This type can be diagnosed by a “Rheumatoid Factor” blood test and is controlled best by pharmaceuticals and lifestyle advice and generally doesn’t react very well to physical treatment. However if you have a painful knee for example, the osteopath can treat your ankle, hip, back and neck for the tension and restriction caused to them by you avoiding the painful knee movements.

Degenerative or Mechanical Arthritis This is the condition which can respond well to physical intervention and advice. A group of conditions where the car tilage, which covers the ends of the bones, becomes thinned and damaged by abnormal or repeated pressure (“wear and tear”) and the bone surface underneath then tries to repair this damage but sometimes overgrows, altering the shape of your joint. This is commonly called osteoar thritis and affects around 8 million people in the UK. It’s more common in older people and par ticularly affects the joints that get heavy use, such as hips and knees due to incorrect posture, spor ts and work habits or lifestyle demands. It may also occur after an accident, fracture or previous damage to the joint. KMG - FOR ALL YOUR PRINTING NEEDS - TEL 666 666 998 - 952 934 805

She is committed to her clients’ health and well-being. Patricia is based at Clinica Medicare in La Cala and is available for the following treatments: Manual Lymphatic Drainage, a specialised massage technique using precise, light rhythmical hand movements which gently stretch the skin in circular motions along the lymphatic pathways. Did you know that Manual Lymphatic Drainage therapy can help if you suffer from any of these conditions? Emotional stress, Repetitive stress, Tension. Toxicity in the body e.g Metals, Alcohol, Atmospheric Pollutants. Neuralgia, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Fatigue. Joint problems such as Arthritis, Hip/Knee replacement, Gout, Fractures, Whiplash, Sprains and Strains. It can also help with skin problems: Eczema, Acne, Scars , Wrinkles, Oedema, Cellulite and helps towards Weight loss. Also respiratory problems such as Sinusitis, Bronchitis and also the common cold. Massage Therapy. Using a combination of Classical Swedish Massage, No Hands Massage, Trigger Point Therapy and Sports Massage, Patricia offers a treatment tailor-made to your needs. Indian Head Massage. A treatment that has been practised in India for over 1000 years was brought to the UK in the 1970’s. During the treatment the client sits fully clothed in a chair whilst the therapist uses a range of massage movements. Working with a firm but gentle rhythm to release blockages and to relieve the build up of muscular tension, the upper back, arms, neck, scalp and face are all massaged. Indian Head Massage also works on an emotional level calming the spirit, promoting relaxation and inducing a state of peace and tranquillity. Hopi Ear Candling. The ‘candles’ are hollow tubes made from organically grown flax, extracts of honey, beeswax and herbs. The candles provide a gentle, non-invasive treatment for the ears which are used in a variety of conditions. When lit, the candles have a slight sucking action, drawing up the impurities to the surface where they can be removed. The treatment is very effective for eliminating backed up mucous, alleviating allergic conditions, diminishing sinusitis, tinnitus or ear pain. It can help to restore equilibrium or pressure in the ear and also to enhance hearing, taste and even smell. The treatment also includes a Face Massage to aid further clearance. Thai Foot Massage. This treatment does not aim to treat

any particular condition, but to improve overall well-being and general health. It works on the energy lines of the body, known in Thailand as Sen lines and also on the internal organs of the body through the reflex points on the feet. The treatment is very relaxing, it helps to improve the Immune System, circulation in the feet and legs, also to reduce stiffness in the feet and legs and can help to improve quality of sleep. Reiki. A Japanese word meaning ‘universal life force’ has its origins in ancient Indian and Tibetan forms of healing. It is a natural healing method that can be safely used at anytime on anyone. The practitioner places their hands in a series of positions either over or on the clients’ fully clothed body, thus allowing the healing energy where it is most needed. Reiki is not an alternative to allopathic medicine but can be used safely in conjunction. For more information or to make an appointment, please call Patricia at Clinica Medicare in La Cala de Mijas. KEY FEATURE Dario Meets the Entrepreneurial Spirit of Martyn Wood

By Dario Poli

The Costa del Sol has numerous talented, interesting personalities living beneath its blue skies, and one of my personal favourite professionals is Martyn Wood, a tall impressive and dignified man with an easy relaxed disposition, a charming smile, tons of patience, but at all times the professional and to this I can testify. I’ve collaborated with him on important occasions and as far as I have experienced, he delivers on the things that he says he can do, which is a valuable asset to anyone using his services. He generously offered his video services freely to help my campaign for Marbella and the UNESCO Rome based charity, “The Children for Peace Onlus”, creating excellent videos for them and from time to time, submits content to our “Marbella Marbella Adelante” website. Martyn, born in Ayr Scotland, is a talented video producer, radio presenter, Disco DJ, journalist and a chef, who began his career as a DJ in 1972 in Yorkshire when the resident DJ failed to turn up in a club he frequented. From that first time he went on to work in local radio (Bradford), setting up a mobile disco and worked most of the major clubs in Yorkshire including the Warehouse, Leeds. His first foray into video was when he worked at the prestigious, members only “Walton Hall Country Club”, a converted stately hall in the middle of a lake. He was DJ in the disco that was located beneath the lake surface. He directed and starred, along with a selection of members, in his version of the “Tiswas” ‘Bucket of water song’. In 1981 Martyn was the resident DJ in the disco voted “Best disco of 1981, “La Chic Part Two” in Nottingham, and also worked at London’s top disco clubs as guest DJ. From there he came to Spain, contracted to equip a disco in the basement of the Stella Polaris hotel, Torreblanca. After that job was completed, the entrepreneurial Martyn went on to run three restaurants with his wife Nessie (he was chef), until in 1992 when approached to join “Costavision TV” to run the English side of this local TV station, but six months later, with two partners he and Nessie bought the station and set up the first foreign language TV station in Andalucia. For many years he contributed to “The Entertainer” newspaper in the form of the weekly recipe entitled “Chef’s Classic Cuisine”, a feature that was taken up firstly by Radio Mijas

24

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

as a weekly cookery spot, and then by Onda Cero International radio. Working in TV and on local radio again at this time, as well as in the third restaurant, he decided it was too much and went on to sell the restaurant and concentrate on TV and corporate video production. The TV station was sold to one of his partners and he formed a production company ‘Smithwood Productions’, making English language TV programmes for all the local Spanish stations in the Malaga region. In 1997 Martyn stopped making TV and concentrated on corporate video production and being a service facility to visiting production crews from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and many others from all over Europe. He was the video producer of the coasts biggest talent show “The Wow Factor” competition, set up to raise money for Cudeca, and was responsible for all online media promotion. Video on demand was something Smithwood Productions became market leaders in on the coast in the early 2000s. Martyn has been involved in filming many of the major events along the coast including the visit of Queen Sofia, the USS America in Malaga port, “Children for Peace” Gala, Starlite Gala and numerous inaugurations and openings! In 2002 He became a founding member of the first Press Club for English speaking journalists, “Club de Prensa de la Costa del Sol” and along with Nessie ran the website. With the revival of 70s and 80s music in recent years Martyn, decided to bring music events featuring this era to the coast and along with Nessie, and partners JC and Chris Jones, opened a live music bar “Le Chic” at the Mijas racecourse in 2010. With the same partners he ran the American caseta at the Fuengirola International Fair in 2010 and 2011, and he is currently running 70s themed discos along the coast and plans on promoting live concerts in 2013 featuring artists from the 80s. It makes one feel exhausted reading Martyn’s efforts with varying enterprises, but as my father said to me “God helps those who help themselves.” I wish Martyn and Nessie a long happy and successful future. www.smithwoodproductions.com,www.costadeldisco.com, www.costapressclub.com.

KEY FEATURE New Radio Campaign to Help British Expatriates Avoid Trouble

A new campaign aimed at helping British residents to avoid common pitfalls whilst living in Spain will be aired on English language radio stations across the country from 3rd December. Roadside robberies, out-of-date passports, and benefits and health concerns all feature in the new radio ‘fillers’ covering some of the most frequent issues that Consular staff have to tackle. The issues are very different but the impact is the same: huge stress for British expats who suddenly find themselves facing frustration, inconvenience and large costs because they failed to take the right steps to avoid problems. Hundreds of British registered and hire cars are targeted every year by gangs who prey on foreigners by distracting them on the road or at rest stops, and then rob them of luggage and possessions. In a 30-second filler Keith, an expat in Spain, warns his mate Roy to take care on the drive down: “Lots of crooks on the roads out here”. It’s all too easy to forget when your passport expires. But if

By British Embassy, Madrid

it has and you need to travel urgently, an emergency travel document for one return journey currently costs around 125 Euros - an expensive mistake. In a second filler, Sheila’s renewing her passport to make sure she is able to travel to a ruby wedding party back in Britain. And there’s a reminder to visit the UKinSpain website for a wealth of information about living in Spain – the facts, not rumours and gossip. Find out why you should register on the Padrón at the local town hall – and how you could miss out on welfare-related benefits and social services help in the future if you don’t. The UKinSpain website can be found at www.ukinspain.fco.gov.uk. The voices behind the fillers include Sheila Reid who plays Madge in the hit UK television series Benidorm, Keith Barron who played Benidorm’s deputy mayor in 2009, and Huggy Leaver who has appeared in EastEnders and the film ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’.

KEY FEATURE The Sign

By Mark Bajerski

It had been a pretty challenging week and, on this particular day, I was dealing with the news that my chapter in a book, that included many well-known authors, was to be cut from the project. Truthfully, I was feeling painfully sad over this turn of events. I walked my dogs that evening to try to clear my mind but it wasn’t working. All the while I walked I kept wondering was I really good enough to have been part of the book to begin with? Filled with feelings of doubt, I could not shake this sadness. I continued my walk with all this sorrow inside of me when suddenly, out of the evening sky came the largest Praying Mantas I have ever seen and landed right on my shoulder. I nearly jumped out of my skin terrified as to whether or not it was going to bite me! With my heart racing, I finally plucked up the courage to move myself and shake it off - and then off I ran! A bit further down the road, I began to laugh at my reaction - how funny I must have looked! Taking out my Blackberry, I joked about the incident on my Facebook page with friends, posting about the ‘perils’ of living in the mountains of Spain. It was all fun and light-hearted. I mean I love where I live and being part of nature is vital to me; it is where I see and feel so many signs of Spirit, but COME ON, a Praying Mantas sitting on my shoulder! I smiled as I wrote, ‘Spirit, next time you’re going to send me another sign, could you please make it something a bit more gentle like, let’s say, a butterfly?!’ The following day a message popped up on my Facebook post that said, “Hey Mark, did you know there is a very spiritual significance to the Praying Mantas?” “You’re kidding me!” I replied. “No not kidding Mark, the Praying Mantis is a very ancient sign with a very spiritual meaning!” “Wow, tell me!” I replied, very excited to learn more. “Yes Mark’, my friend continued, “The Praying Mantis symbolizes a ‘true spiritual messenger for spirit’ – isn’t that something!” I was so amazed and, with this information, it just all made so much sense to me. That one sign, that single message given to me at that time, cancelled all self-doubting. It was nothing

26

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

to do with my chapter; it was simply that the book was not right for me. The message was clear and I am so humbled and grateful to have received it in my moment of doubt. The message was this - My rejection is Spirits protection! Conclusion Many of us find ourselves in a position where we question the WHY in life when faced with certain outcomes, twists and turns. Here’s an example of how I see it. After months of searching, you finally find your dream home and you do all you can to complete the transaction. All the while, things keep blocking you. No matter how much energy, time and relentless effort you put into acquiring your dream home; in the end the deal just falls apart. Naturally, you feel terrible, deeply disappointed. You keep asking the big ‘WHY?’ That is, of course, until the day arrives when you find an even better home and suddenly everything just flows into place - you know that feeling - RIGHT! A feeling of complete certainty like, deep inside you just knew that this home was going to be yours! It’s not easy to explain, but you just knew. Then you finally look back and smile and say, ‘Hey, I am so glad we didn’t get the first home we tried so hard for!” If you flow in life and trust that everything is as it should be, then and only then, do you allow Spirit’s divine intervention to flow. Remember this the next time you feel like ‘fighting’ too hard as perhaps it will be over something or someone that was never meant to be in the first moment! Trust – all is as it should be! Until next time my wonderful friends, may you always be blessed with signs for Spirit and please look out of my new book due out soon, The Dairies of an Accidental Psychic. www.markbajerski.com Facebook: Mark Bajerski Mijas Pueblo Tel 649 369 009

ASTROLOGY Astrology4everyone Welcome to the final month of 2012 and the biggest hot spot of the year: the ‘Galactic Alignment’! For many, 2012 has been a year full of challenges both personally and globally and looking at the astrology for 2013 we will have more trials and tribulations to deal with over the coming months. However the good news is that any changes we can and do make as individuals at this time will actually turn out to be blessings in disguise… there is a saying that ‘what we resist, will persist’ and this could not be truer for all of us than at this present time. There’s been a lot of hype about 2012 and the ‘end of the world for mankind’ etc. etc.! Depending on your belief system, December 2012 is the month of the dreaded, or eagerly awaited, Winter Solstice - 21st December denotes the end of the much talked about Mayan Long Count Calendar. So will the earth shift on its axis or a rogue planet hit us and destroy Earth? Or will we wake up on December 22 and see the world just as it appeared the day before? Realistically this depends on individual perceptions, and the scenario that each of us are attracted to has a lot to do with whether we are fear based, i.e. those with lots of Scorpio and Pluto in the birth chart may believe the end of the world scenario but those with lots of Capricorn and Saturn in the birth chart are less

28

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

By Janet Powell likely to believe any of it! Of course this is a simplistic view and there are variations… not all Scorpios or Capricorns will have those views. Knowing where the planets are in your own birth chart will indicate your perceptions of the world around you as well as your inner world; the one that is often hidden behind a brave face! Aside is a brief outlook for each sign in 2013 which may help with your plans for the year, and if impending difficulties are indicated this will allow time for you to determine a strategy to avoid them. However, the forecast is a general indication only and if you would like a more in-depth personal reading for the year ahead write to me at astrology4everyone@yahoo.co.uk for more information. Whether you are looking for support in your life or want to make changes or have difficult decisions to make, a yearly transit forecast chart will help you to see your life with more clarity and most importantly to make informed decisions that will improve your life. A question and answer section is also being proposed in the Magazine, and if you have any astrology questions send these to me and answers will be published anonymously in a forthcoming issue. In the meantime I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year 2013… see you again in February

2013 HOROSCOPE Aries - Are likely to enjoy a productive year with Uranus and Jupiter in good aspect to their Sun. A heightened insight will help you choose the right course in life and you could regain a foothold career-wise as well as in your personal life. Consider 2013 to be a good time to reorganise your life and reset priorities. Taurus - May find a new and innovative creative energy that will bring vigour into your life. There may be situations that will challenge present strengths but these will help you to acquire new ones. The career and life in general may need a fresh approach during the year. Gemini - Could see positive results of efforts made the previous year and you should enjoy the fruits of this harvest. A clear mind will give you a better view of life however you may need to exercise some spontaneity and less intensity in your personal life. Cancer - May feel the impact in many aspects of their life and those born at the end of June and early July will have Pluto opposing their Sun during 2013. This is an aspect that needs careful balancing as it increases a need to control and intensity in the will-power, creating resistance in others. As the year progresses new opportunities will present themselves and push you to achieve greater heights. Leo - Will need to take a more rational approach towards life. Those born towards the end of July and early August will have a challenging aspect from Saturn during 2013 which could have the effect of having to face the realities of life. You may go through phases which will require you to have a better understanding of matters in general however on the positive side there will be opportunities for socialising and pleasure as well during the year. Virgo - Prepare to live life faster than usual in 2013… break away from your cautious approach towards life and start to live more freely. Spend some time soul searching and learn to let go! Efforts in the workplace may well be recognized and possibly rewarded in some way. Libra - Organise and prioritise matters that demand your attention. This year may be a time to evaluate your professional life or even consider a career change. Affirm your values and stick

to them in this way you will radiate energy and enthusiasm and stay at the pinnacle of fitness. Scorpio - Saturn moved into Scorpio October 2012 and for those born towards the end of October and first half of November Saturn will be conjunct (next to) your sun at varying times during 2013. This aspect can sometimes leave a feeling of isolation and loneliness but this period can also be used positively by looking inwards and re-viewing your life to see where changes can be made and discarding old habits and patterns that no longer serve you. At other times you may find yourself busy dealing with issues in your social and professional life…Go carefully when dealing with sensitive issues in your personal life. Sagittarius - Planetary positions suggest you could come across many opportunities in life which will keep you busy even when you want to remove yourself from them. It may seem like you can’t escape activities even if you want. Go with the flow, you could be surprised at the outcome! Capricorn - This year may present opportunities to widen your scope and diversify. A peaceful personal life will help your professional life and if resources are available you may even consider some investment. Those born late December and early January will have Pluto conjunct their Sun at varying times during 2013… there may be events resulting in loss or separation but only if these are things that are standing in the way of you being true to yourself. Aquarius - It’s time to gear up and take on the world but keep a balance and remember too much action could make you impulsive. You may find directives in your professional life and this could be the time to focus on long-term career objectives. Money matters may be a little unstable so plan your budget carefully. Pisces - There may be difficulty balancing income and spending during the year and although income will remain steady there may be unexpected expenses that could make a dent in your pocket! You may come across decision making situations in your personal life but try to be supportive to the needs of loved ones. Stay level headed and this could be quite a successful and fulfilling year.

KEY FEATURE Ask Joy

By Joy Fahey

Dear Joy My partner and I keep having arguments and upsets and I don’t really understand why. He tells me he loves me but then says I’m too needy and demand too much. I just want to please him and make him happy but he seems to always reject me. I then get very upset which just makes him worse and we then don’t speak to each other. He goes out with his friends and stays out all night. I feel very confused as to what to do; I really love him and want to keep the relationship. Can you help? Lucy Dear Lucy First of all you are not alone with this situation; many women find themselves in this position and tend to get very confused as to why and don’t understand the underlying fundamentals of the nature of it. The tendency for many women is to ‘fall’ into a relationship with a perception of what they feel it should be and give their power away to the man in question. They then tend to have an expectation of what they think the man should, must and ought do according to the perception the women has projected onto him. It’s born out of ‘wanting’ a relationship at any cost. But the perception and the reality are miles apart. Men really don’t understand this ‘over emotional’ state in women and nine times out of ten revert to type with ‘fight or flight’ they simply don’t know how to handle it. Women’s dependency on man in many ways frightens them; it puts too much pressure on them and

30

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

causes the argument and statements of ‘being too needy and demanding’ and then running off to the pub! So what is the answer? Firstly the recognition that this is only a tendency and it can be changed. If you truly love this man and want to continue a relationship with him, then the only person who can change anything is you. If you change your behaviour you will get a different response from him, it’s logical. The only person who can make you happy is you, if you are happy he will be happy - it’s not forced or full of expectation it’s just being happy. This will please him as he won’t feel under pressure to give you something he doesn’t know how to give. Demanding love is not what relationships are about, being at ease with yourself is a magnet, he will then want to be around you and naturally feel like giving you love and affection. How to make yourself happy? Get out there and do something for yourself. Go to the gym, have a day at the spa, change your routine, have some fun, sing out loud, be the person you really are, smile at yourself in the mirror. Change your attitude – you know life is a magical adventure and when you let it, your needs are met with grace and ease. See beauty wherever you go, have gratitude as your primary emotion. It’s all in you, concentrate on that and you will be amazed what will happen with you and your relationship. Be contagious with fun and laughter - life is too short not to be! Have a Happy Day Joy

KEY COMPUTERS Extend Your Wireless Network’s Range Most wireless routers these days have a good range but in some homes like in Spain, where metal rods are used in concrete support pillars and with thick walls too in some cases, the wireless range is reduced significantly. Additionally, one thing a wireless signal will not do, is go around corners. One solution is a wireless repeater. This simple device is configured to your wireless router settings along with its wireless code and then, simply plugged into a wall

electrical socket at some distance away from the router. The signal is picked up and then repeated at strength for further distance connections. KEY SPORTS Football Roundup

By Steve Billingham

ENGLAND V SAN MARINO, 12 OCTOBER, WEMBLEY World Cup Qualifier The one professional player in the San Marino starting 11 plays in the Italian fourth division. There was an England recall for Aaron Lennon down the right hand side for the first time since the disappointing 0-0 draw with Algeria in the 2010 World Cup. Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with a penalty after Danny Welbeck was tripped. Aaron Lennon crossed in low for Welbeck to flick in number 2, a goal reminiscent of his effort against Sweden in the Euros. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain scored his first goal and England’s third before Welbeck poked home his second from a Cleverley cross and England’s fourth. Liverpool’s JonJo Shelvey came on and made an impact spraying a long pass to Leighton Baines who crossed in from the left. The ball eventually fell to Rooney who scored with a low snapshot to become the 5th highest ever England scorer with 31 goals. Despite the inevitability of the result (5-0) and the onesidedness of the match, it still attracted 85,654 spectators. POLAND v ENGLAND - World Cup Qualifier Despite the heavy showers, the roof of the Stadion Narodowy, Warsaw was bizarrely left open and could not be closed apparently due to the rain and strong winds. Knowing the match date and the weather forecast, the roof should have been closed anyway. Several times the referee appeared throwing balls on a water-sodden pitch to ironic cheers from the crowd. There didn’t appear to be any real urge (like people on the pitch with forks etc - which surely would have been the case at Wembley), to get the pitch ready in time.

34

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

Wayne Rooney, a generously priced 25-1 for a hat-trick opened the scoring with a header (or shoulder) from a Steven Gerrard corner after half an hour. The Poles were still enterprising and quick down the flanks and a great piece of technical skill by Lewandowski, a little scoop forward resulted in Grosicki firing just wide. James Milner, after starting promisingly with runs and decent crosses, swapped flanks and petered out. Rooney blazed over after 68 minutes after good work by substitute, Welbeck – a good chance to double the lead. The miss did not go unpunished as Glick headed in a swinging free kick. England might have been a bit more adventurous and pushed for the win but big target men Carroll and Shelvey remained on the bench and the match finished 1-1. A Jermaine Defoe hat-trick defeated Slovenian side Maribor 3-1 in the Europa League on 8 November. Spurs played an attacking 4-4-2 style with wide men Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon playing a large part in the win. Both put plenty of crosses in especially Bale who set up 2 of Defoe’s goals with excellent crosses in and looked dangerous throughout showing plenty of pace and ‘running at’ the right back. So much so that he had to be marked by 2 during the second half. Spurs next encounter was a scrappy 0-0 draw in Rome with Lazio. Aaron Lennon, so attacking and enterprising against Maribor, was virtually anonymous. Lazio striker Kozaks might have had 4 goals and looked a threat. Keeper Hugo Lloris kept Spurs in the match with good, clean handling and two cracking saves in the second half holding on to a Kozaks shot and showing great reactions to keep out a sharp Floccari header.

KEY FEATURE Tea at Sam’s Below is an excerpt from Sue’s debut novel. To recap: Celine has just returned to Holland after the sudden death of her father and senses a strange unease between herself and her partner, James. Living in Amsterdam was to be their first base abroad and, although Celine had pined for her job and work colleagues for the first few weeks, she had forced herself to settle down quickly. The couple were adjusting to a new life, unfamiliar surroundings, alien language and different life style. She was resigned to the fact that theirs would not be a settled life and that they would have to move from country to country if James was to climb the corporate ladder. They had got to know other expatriates through James’s work and had a busy social life, although James was only involved for career purposes and not in search of friendship. When alone in the quietness of their apartment, she often felt empty inside and longed for some direction and purpose that cocktail and dinner parties did not provide. James, on the other hand, seemed to be relishing their time abroad and was unaware of Celine’s disquiet. If she tried to communicate her feelings to him he would chide her for being a complainer, or worse – a nag. Wasn’t he providing her with every luxury? What more did she want? As he carried her suitcase into the bedroom, Celine put the kettle on for some coffee and noted that the place looked clean and tidy. She liked everything to be just so and became irrationally agitated if her home became messy. The cat, which had greeted her with almost canine abandon, had followed her into the kitchen. “Want a coffee?” she called out as she reached for a mug, glad to be away from the confines of her mother’s house

By Sue Cross and her constant chatter but feeling guilty for thinking it. “No thanks. I’m going to have a proper drink. It’s been a busy week.” She heard him opening the drinks cabinet in the sitting room and, feeling herself becoming tense at the sound of the bottle opening, picked up Sasha and breathed in the sweet smell of its fur. Switching on the radio, the poignancy of the song, Homeward Bound, moved her to tears as she thought about her father. “Let’s have an early night if you’re tired.” She had dried her secret tears and taken her coffee into the sitting room where she flopped onto the ultra modern sofa. She longed for him to take her to bed and hold her close in his arms, but experience had taught her to play it cool. If she were too keen he would inevitably reject her advances. “Blast, I forgot to change the sheets!” he muttered. “What’s this sudden concern with things domestic? I’ll have to go away more often. It hardly matters about the sheets – we’ve been married for a while now.” She teased him. Sasha was purring loudly on Celine’s lap in blissful ignorance of the tension in the room. “I’m going to have a shower and go to bed. Don’t be too long darling.” She got up, straightened the cushions and placed the cat on an easy chair, but the animal followed her faithfully into the bedroom where it jumped on the bed, stretched and settled down to another snooze. KEY PETS Christmas Tips

By David the Dogman

I thought it would be useful at this time of year to give you some tips on the danger to your pets of some of the seasonal foods and decorations. There is usually a lot of chocolate and other things around the house that are bad for our pets and it’s important to keep them away from these items.

Check List Poinsettia: Dogs and cats alike find plants irresistible. Some dogs may be able to ingest an entire poinsettia plant with no ill effects. Veterinarian toxicologists have reported seeing animals with stomach or mouth irritation from a small amount of the plant.

Chocolate: the substance that is harmful in the chocolate is called Theobromine. This is a naturally occurring alkaloid that is found in the cocoa bean and it can cause vomiting and restlessness in pets. The chocolate acts like a stimulant and causes increased heart rate, irregular heart beat and may cause seizures. Smaller doses of chocolate can trigger vomiting and diarrhoea and these symptoms could lead to dehydration if they are not treated immediately. Large doses can also be fatal!

Mistletoe: This plant is even more toxic than the poinsettia (particularly the berries). Other plants that you might have around your house during the holidays that are also dangerous to animals are: Christmas Rose, English Holly, Jerusalem Cherry and Amaryllis.

To determine what a lethal dose of Theobromine is would depend on the size of the animal and the type of chocolate. Baking chocolate is the most lethal as it contains six to nine times as much Theobromine as milk chocolate. In the event your dog does get into the Christmas chocolates, call your veterinarian. Try to determine the amount and type of chocolate the animal has ingested in order to help the doctor in assessing the situation and to form an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Make sure your children understand that feeding chocolate to your pet will make him sick. Chocolate is also toxic to cats however, overall, they tend not to have a sweet tooth. Nevertheless, cat owners should still keep the chocolates out of the way of kitty. And chocolate is not the only danger during the holiday season.

38

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

Tinsel: This decoration has proven to be one of the most lethal for cats. Cats go crazy for tinsel (why not, it shines, moves with the slightest breeze and hangs down tantalisingly from the boughs of the Christmas tree). Ingested tinsel can get tangled in the cat’s intestines and most cats then need surgery in order to save their lives. Turkey: Animals cannot digest turkey as well as humans and the bones should not be offered to your pet either, as poultry bones are especially dangerous as they can splinter easily and become lodged in the pet’s throat or perforate its intestinal tract. You’ll just have to look the other way when those big pleading eyes stare at you from under the Christmas table. Any rich holiday foods that are high in fat are bad for your pet and can cause gastrointestinal problems. The Christmas Tree: Dogs and cats alike love to eat not only the tinsel but small ornaments and these can cause blockage or perforation of the intestinal tract. If your puppy chews, make sure he can’t get to the electrical cords.

KEY PETS So you have Chosen to get a Pedigree Dog Sadly many people choose a pedigree dog they can’t really afford to buy from a top breeder, so they cut corners, buying what they see as a cute pup that looks like the breed they want from a pet shop or back street breeder. Because they are paying a third of the price they accept so much less, like seeing the pup with its mum, the one thing everybody knows you must do. So you can’t afford to buy from a top breeder, offering pups with top pedigrees with show winning parents, where the pups have genetic testing etc. That’s fine, but please never buy a pedigree pup from a pet shop or breeder that doesn’t welcome you into their home to meet not only them but the whole family including the pup’s mother, father, auntie etc. Expect to be given the third degree, it shows that they care who they sell their babies to, as good breeders expect to be given the third degree also. As well as the above information, there are a few golden rules that you should ensure the breeder follows. Pups should never be sold before 8 weeks and should have had at least 1 full vet check with at least their first injection. Dietary advice should be given and followed by the letter for at least 2 weeks. Remember it’s not only the pup’s physical health you are looking at but also its emotional health, as the first 12 weeks of its life really play an important part in how it

40

sees the world. Good breeders work very hard at making sure pups not only receive warmth and food but love and affection, training, - that’s why all our pups are born in our living room and spend the first month of life there, within easy reach for lots of cuddles, getting used to family life and noise, then moving into a puppy play pen (when it starts to get smelly), when they start eating, giving them a large area which contains a section for sleeping, eating, playing and going to toilet, helping them on the road to good doggie behaviour because as breeders we know just how important this early training is. So, as you can see, there’s more to choosing a good breeder then you think. Frenchbullrus are proud to announce the safe arrival of Lulu and Buster’s litter of 3 perfect girls and 2 handsome boys with a few of them looking very much like Grandma Cala, offered for sale at 9 weeks with pet passport, with 1st, 2nd full injections, micro-chip, fully wormed, 3 vet checks, pedigrees, full puppy pack with information pack and a promise from us that we will always be here for you. Join our Facebook members’ page and meet all the family, with all our past puppies, new families keeping in contact with each other, swapping stories and photos -www.facebook.com/groups/frenchbullrus/ or call Joanna any time on 661 152 451.

KEY PETS German Kennel Club Bans Registered Breeders from Trading with Pet Shops Hi Folks I trust everything is well with you all. The German Kennel Club VDH has banned all registered breeding members from trading with pet shops in the sale of puppies. This has prompted several dog food manufacturers and animal associations to terminate business with the major pet shop suppliers based in Duisburg. It is claimed that this dealer had been selling puppies from rescue pounds. This ban will probably spread throughout the EU very quickly, as happened with the ban on cutting tails. We have never sold any of our puppies in pet shops, as they do not look after the animals properly, do not care where the dogs come from or if they are properly bred, properly injected, or of the correct age when the puppy is supplied to

By Graham Stark, Macfin Rottweilers

new owners. In the majority of cases clients will receive a much better deal from a registered breeder. There are many puppy breeding farms throughout Europe that supply pet shops. In Spain one way to tell is to ask if the puppy has a pedigree. If the pedigree is not supplied by RSCE Madrid, it is almost certain the puppy has not been bred by a registered breeder. In many cases pups become sick within a few days of purchase, invariably due to Parvovirus, which is a horrible illness for a puppy which in most cases results in death and then resulting in problems with the pet shop owner refusing to refund your money. We have all witnessed the beautiful puppy that supposedly has a pedigree and by the time the pup is four months old it has clearly been cross bred. Wishing you all a Happy Christmas & Healthy Prosperous New Year.

KEY LAW Newsletter - Updates on Data Protection New Legislation 2012

By Victoria Anzola, Iberdata 21

The European Commission has proposed a comprehensive reform of the EU’s 1995 data protection rules to strengthen and modernise online privacy rights and boost Europe’s digital economy. Technological progress and globalisation have profoundly changed the way our data is collected, accessed and used. In addition, the 27 EU Member States have implemented the 1995 rules differently, resulting in divergences in enforcement. A single law will do away with the current fragmentation and costly administrative burdens, leading to savings for businesses of around euros 2.3 billion a year. The initiative will help reinforce consumer confidence in online services, providing a much needed boost to growth, jobs and innovation in Europe. This new Directive will consider personal data processed for the purposes of prevention, detection, investigation or prosecution of criminal offences and related judicial activities. Key changes in the reform include: - A single set of rules on data protection, valid across the EU. - Instead of the current obligation of all companies to notify all data protection activities to data protection supervisors the Regulation provides for increased responsibility and accountability for those processing personal data. - Companies and organisations must notify the national supervisory authority of serious data breaches as soon as possible (if feasible within 24 hours). - Organisations will only have to deal with a single national data protection authority in the EU country where they have their main establishment. Likewise, people can refer to the data protection authority in their country, even when their data is processed by a company based outside the EU. Wherever consent is required for data to be processed, it is clarified that it has to be given explicitly, rather than assumed. - People will have easier access to their own data and be able to transfer personal data from one service provider to another more easily (right to data portability). - A ‘right to be forgotten’ will help people better manage data protection risks online: people will be able to delete their data if there are no legitimate grounds for retaining it. - EU rules must apply if personal data is handled abroad by companies that are active in the EU market and offer their

44

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

services to EU citizens. - Independent national data protection authorities will be strengthened so they can better enforce the EU rules at home. They will be empowered to fine companies that violate EU data protection rules. - A new Directive will apply general data protection principles and rules for police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters. The rules will apply to both domestic and crossborder transfers of data. ARTICLE 29 Data Protection Working Party – European Union data protection authorities issued a letter to Google CEO Larry Page: “…Firstly, the investigation showed that Google provides insufficient information to its users (including passive users), especially on the purposes and the categories of data being processed. As a result, a Google user is unable to determine which categories of data are processed in the service he uses, and for which purpose these data are processed. Internet companies should not develop privacy notices that are too complex, law-oriented or excessively long. However, the search for simplicity should not lead internet companies to avoid the respect of their duties. We require from all large and global companies that they detail and differentiate their processing operations. Secondly, the investigation confirmed our concerns about the combination of data across services. The new Privacy Policy allows Google to combine almost any data from any services for any purposes. Combination of data, like any other processing of personal data, requires an appropriate legal ground and should not be incompatible with the purpose for which these data were collected...” For more information visit our website and remember we have a training course to help you understand and implement the law. KEY FINANCE Safe Possession or Bleak Recession? Well, what is it to be? The recession is causing many problems and people in all walks of life are experiencing difficulties. However much we would like to ease our burden by not paying our insurance premium just yet, in the event of an incident occurring, then this would just compound our troubles. Don’t let this happen to you. If you have put off taking out the necessary insurance policy this might be the worst mistake you have made. The best thing to do is to talk to us and let us find a policy which will safeguard your possessions at a premium affordable to you. One thing to remember, as time goes on and folk start feeling the pinch then there are some members of society who will take the easy option and appropriate other folk’s possessions. Don’t leave yourself wide open to worse problems. In the event of a theft, then if you are covered by insurance

By Rightway Insurance & Finance SL

you can at least claim and receive compensation enabling you to purchase items to replace those stolen. If you have let your cover slide then you do not have this option! Another consideration is your motor insurance. You might say that you will do without the car in the event of an accident BUT if it involves another person or someone’s property then they will expect to be reimbursed. If you have not taken out even the minimum insurance then not only will you find yourself being sued but you will also find yourself in trouble with the police, as if your car is involved in an accident (even if it has been stolen from you) it is still your responsibility. Talk to us and give us the opportunity of offering adequate cover at a reasonable cost. If you don’t do it the RIGHTWAY then you could be putting your home at risk and your vehicle on the wrong side of the law! Take action now.

KEY FINANCE Let’s Take a Trip around the Globe Uncertainty has been the key feature during the last couple of weeks and at one stage the Euro according to the headlines was once again on the brink and the dollar on the edge of the fiscal cliff. Ok, so let’s take a trip around the globe to catch up on the headlines and see what has happened to the currencies. UK A recent Bank of England survey underlines slow growth and 2013 is forecast to be equally as difficult. With public sector borrowing higher by £2.7billion more than the same time last year you have to ask yourself are you surprised, with businesses folding and therefore a reduction in taxes collected then the most likely impact is the increase. It appears collection of corporation taxes fell by around 10% year on year. With this in mind was quantitative easing going to reappear? Inflation running higher than expected then the task was indeed a difficult one to call. Look closely enough and you will see that QE is around as the Bank is giving the Treasury benefits from bonds held through its QE programme which in turn lowers the cost of servicing debt. Eurozone Yep the recession is biting harder even though the PMI’s rose by a small amount recently but is still below the 50 mark which separates contraction from expansion. This low figure means it’s now 10 consecutive months we have seen this contraction across the eurozone. With the familiar names still in the headlines, Spain, Greece, Portugal the last thing the zone needed was a headline news coming from France so the strength provided by this country in the past is faltering hence the rea-

46

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

son for the concern over the zone. On a more positive note Greece will receive the funds needed and Cyprus will also get its money so the question still remains when will Spain get/or apply for a bailout? No problem though as investors at the moment seem to like the euro. USA Yes the” Fiscal Cliff”, and no it’s not a new tourist attraction. The US has a task on its hands and Mr Obama now has another 4 years to sort the budget deficit and the debt ceiling. At least unemployment seems to be improving however it does seem they are experiencing a skills shortage for the jobs available. US housing however still points to a recovery albeit from quite a low start and further good news came in the shape of new housing starts which recorded a 4 year high. Will this be enough to lift consumer confidence and spending? So to finish on better news, manufacturing in China broke above the 50 mark for the first time in a long while as new export orders rose so thank you China. KEY LAW Do you have to pay the Cost for a Service or Innovation you do not use?

It is very common to face someone who does not want to pay the cost of the maintenance of the pool or the lift or the TV system, etc. for the reason that they do not use this service of the community. The Horizontal Property Law (LPH) says that all the owners have to pay community fees according to their coefficients no matter if they use the services or not, unless something different is said in the statutes of the community.

By Jose Luis Navarro, Intercala´s Solicitor and Property Administrator

Article 9.2 of the LPH establishes that: “For the application of the rules from the previous section, expenses which are not attributable to any flat or premises will be reputed as general ones, and the disuse of a service will not exempt from the comply of duly duties, without any prejudice of what is settled down on this Act 11.2 clause.” For instance, this means that someone who has his own satellite dish and does not use the communal TV system will have to pay for its maintenance anyway. In the same way we have the use of the pool, paddle courts, or whatever other general facilities the community might enjoy. Regarding new services or innovations to be approved for the community, except the legal ones, the clause 11.2 LPH permits the owners to avoid the payments with certain conditions: “Whenever some agreements are adopted in order to carry out non-required innovations under the previous paragraph provisions, and whose installation quota exceeds the amount of three ordinary monthly payments of common expenses, the dissident neither will be forced to pay for this, nor his quota will be modified, even whether he cannot be deprived of the improvement or advantage. If the dissident wants, at any time, to participate of the advantages of the innovation, he will be obliged to pay his quota concerning fulfilment and maintenance expenses, properly up-to-dated by applying the corresponding legal interest.” The limit would be the amount of three ordinary monthly payments, so when as a consequence of the innovation the owner is obliged to pay a cost that represents for him an amount under this figure, he would be also obliged to pay no matter if he will use the new service or not. So, be aware about the obligation you may have to pay even when you have decided not to use the service or innovation.

Cerveceria Tipi Tapa is a fine example of a typically Spanish bar/restaurant, but of excellent quality at affordable prices. Tipi Tapa can be found at the Miramar end of Mijas Costa – come off at the first entrance to Fuengirola past the Sohail Castle. You will find the Mosque on your right and a few metres past that there is a roundabout with the Cayetano supermarket on it. Take a left there into C/Malaga and you will find Cerveceria Tipi Tapa a few metres down the road on the right. Cerveceria Tipi Tapa has a selection of fine meats from the BBQ all served with potatoes and salad, such as Mixed Grill for two people, other fine cuts of steak, pork or various meat skewers, a selection of fish etc. As the name of the restaurant suggests, it also serves a full range of the ever popular Spanish “tapas”, small portions either for a snack or to pick and mix with your friends. Tapas are served all day so Tipi Tapa is also an ideal place to eat if you are a little outside normal dining hours. A selection from the tapas menu includes favourites such as Russian Salad and other salad variations, a good variety of “embutidos”, different types of Spanish sausage, hams and Salamis from around the country, prawn and fish dishes, meatballs, croquettes, several vegetarian options such as Tortilla, Caramelised Goat’s Cheese with Crispy Almonds, Brie Blini with Cranberry Jam, Aubergine with Cane Sugar and many, many more both for meat and fish lovers and vegetarians too. Tipi Tapa is an ideal place to try Spanish favourites. We have now had the pleasure of visiting Cerveceria Tipi Tapa and have tried first hand some of the tapas mentioned above, some of which are featured in the headers of this issue’s restaurant guide. We were warmly greeted, the service is outstanding but the

food even more so. Everything comes beautifully presented and is of the highest quality such as the “Cinco Jotas” award winning ham which was the best we have had in a long time. Cerveceria Tipi Tapa serves the best quality Beef from Galicia which is renowned for its outstanding flavour. If you prefer classic dishes then as well as other options, Soup and Prawn Cocktail are available. For main course we opted for the Slow Roast Topside but have also tried the Roast Leg or Pork with Crackling and Stuffing during the week and both come highly recommended as Roasts of the Day at only 7.95 Euros, which includes roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and home made Yorkshire Pudding. As well as the Roasts, Sunday Lunch Specials, which really are that, include Tournedos Rossini and Lobster Thermidor (this has already been sampled and comes highly recommended and won’t break the bank!) and some others besides. Desserts are great too and we have enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream. Other desserts include Bread and Butter Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce as well as Elegante Iced Berries with Warm White Chocolate Sauce plus other choices. The Cheese Board was exceptional with a lovely ripe Blue Stilton amongst the large selection available. FELLINI’S the well-known Italian Restaurant at the Aztec Country Club in Riviera del Sol, has been a favourite haunt for many years and we welcome Fellini’s back into the magazine. The emphasis is on a friendly, family service with reasonable prices but retaining a high standard of cuisine. Fellini’s has an extensive Italian menu of family favourites such as pastas, pizzas, meat and seafood dishes cooked to perfection all of which is available as take away as well. Our particular favourites from the extensive menu are Minestrone Soup, Antipasto or Spaghetti Pil Pil for starters, Vegetable Risotto, Veal Milanese or any of the delicious pastas or pizzas for main course to name but a few. I am also rather partial to the Veal Saltimbocca. We are now also hooked on Fellini’s Pizzas which are authentic, thin and crispy and we believe the best in the area. There is also a good selection of home-made desserts and a fine wine list including favourite Italian wines. Fellini’s welcomes family dining with several suitable items on the menu for children. Why not celebrate your birthday, Engagement or other occasion at Fellini’s? Buffet or Menu from as little as 12 Euros a head. We hope you and your family have many enjoyable evenings at Fellini’s. KORMA As you know, we are from the East London/Essex area in the UK and for years have missed the wonderful Indian restaurants that were local to us. Over the years we have brought to you what we have found to be the best here. Now in the middle of Mijas Costa in Riviera del Sol just as you come off the roundabout going in the direction of Miraflores (see map at the end of this magazine), Korma has recently opened its doors. Very modern décor, absolutely spotless with a great terrace for summer dining, Korma is

without doubt the top Indian restaurant in the area. Some examples are Chicken Tikka, lovely big and tender pieces of chicken with a bit of a kick, Lamb Bhuna that melts in your mouth and the best ever Prawn Puri that we have had since coming to Spain over 15 years ago! My particular favourite is the Muragh Mango, whch is a lovely mild chicken curry with fresh mango in a creamy sauce with different spices but if you like it hot, then I am sure the Phal packs a punch! Included in the vegetable selection in Bhndi Bhaji (Lady’s Fingers) which is really excellent. Korma has a great choice on the menu and can make any dish as mild or as hot as you like. Portions are always generous and best quality ingredients are used. You will certainly feel full when you leave and also pleasantly surprised at what good value for money the food is. Oh, and before we forget, did we tell you that Korma also deliver? If you enjoy Indian cusine, this really is the place. We guarantee you will enjoy your visit. Please tell them at Korma that you read about them in the Key. Korma have got it just right and consistent with friendly service, good quality ingredients, plenty of choice and good value for money. SAMSARA is in La Cala going towards the sea from the main roundabout on the left opposite the church. Samsara is open from 9.30am for a healthy breakfast, (which I hope to try before too long), lunch and snacks. Although a meat eater myself, I love the healthy food available at Samsara and have already popped in more than once! For only 4.95 Euros you can order one of their bamboo boats which will have a selection of four separate items with generous portions. All fresh home-made food. I have tried the Courgette and Onion Bhaji and there were also corn fritters available and well as home-made Fallafel. On the salad side I have really enjoyed the Aubergine and Pepper Salad as well as the Lentil, Chick Pea and Feta Cheese Salad which is a lovely combination. My particular favourite is the Thai Noodle Salad. The Bean Salad and Three Rice Salad also come recommended. Samsara is always adding new things to the menu, especially when the seasons change. SSALATHAI Many of you will know that we have a soft spot for Thailand having visited many times and therefore know good Thai food when we find it. Jack and Mao are Thai, so you can be sure that the food at Ssalathai is authentic. You will find Ssalathai Thai Restaurant at Urb Playa Marina, Mijas Costa. If you are not familiar with Thai food, then I would suggest on your first visit that you try the special menu for two people at only 50 Euros which will give you a good selection across the board to sample this exotic cuisine. The special menu includes assorted starters followed by Tom Yam Koong, Thai’s favourite soup with Spicy Prawns. Main courses include Stir Fried Fish with Chilli Sauce and Basil Leaves, Chicken Panang Curry, Seasonal Vegetables in Oyster Sauce, Steamed Rice and Dessert. From the a la carte menu starters also include Beef or Chicken Satay, Thai Spring Rolls, Thai Fish Cakes and Soups. Salads include two of my favourites,

There are also several Duck, Fish and Prawn dishes, a nice selection of vegetable, rice and noodle dishes, including a really excellent Pad Thai as well as a selection of Thai desserts. KEY RECIPE How to Roast If you don’t fancy the Turkey, then here’s how to roast the perfect joint of Beef for your Christmas Lunch. Information supplied by Bord Bia, (Irish Food Board). Best quality beef cuts to roast – Rib of Beef, Rolled Rib, Striploin, Topside. The Beef must be aged for a minimum of two weeks. Roast Rib of Beef 2kg joint of beef To Cook: Spread the fat surface with a mixture of mustard and black pepper. Add some peeled shallots or onion halves around the joint to give extra flavour and colour to the gravy. Set oven to Gas Mark

6, 200ºC. Place the joint in the hot oven for 15 minutes, reduce the temperature to Gas Mark 4, 180ºC and allow 15 minutes per half kg for rare, plus 20 minutes extra for medium or 30 minutes extra for well done. To be absolutely accurate, use a meat roasting thermometer. When the meat is cooked, remove from the oven, cover loosely with foil and allow to rest for 30 minutes. This resting time allows the juices to settle; the meat firms up so it is easier to carve. To serve: Spoon off the fat. Add some wine or water to the juices. Boil over a high heat and taste for seasoning. Serve with the sliced roast. Delicious with potatoes, roast vegetables or a creamy vegetable puree.

Sometimes we are lucky enough to hear of what can only be described as an absolute gem just off our manor or “beyond” if you like. Elegante boasts an enormous intimate terrace, heated for the winter months, along with a trendy indoor restaurant with a rather interesting ceiling, as well as a comfy lounge for pre or after dinner drinks. Apart from an extensive wine list, why not enjoy a cocktail or two? Open all day every day from 11.00am for breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner. Daily Specials Fabulous Sunday Lunch and also a special December menu. Elegante are taking bookings for Xmas and the New Year and don’t forget to book for Valentine’s Day which we know will be special at Elegante. Oh, did we forget to tell you that the head chef and one of the owners, Christian, is ex Claridges? We really recommend this restaurant. Some of our friends have already been down to try it and it got a big thumbs up. We really recommend this restaurant. Top quality food, really friendly service, not expensive. Read more about this venue in our restaurant guide. ‘Nuff said. See you there. Please mention to the staff that you read about Elegante in the Key and you will be well looked after.
