KEY HEALTH Gum Disease
By Belinda Pamos, Sonrisa
Gingivitis, also generally called gum disease or periodontal disease, begins with bacterial growth in your mouth and may end -- if not properly treated -- with tooth loss due to destruction of the tissue that surrounds your teeth. When gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis (Gum disease). In a person with periodontitis, the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets. These small spaces between teeth and gums collect debris and can become infected. When this happens, teeth are no longer anchored in place, they become loose, and tooth loss occurs. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. What Causes Gum Disease? Plaque is the primary cause of gum disease. However, other factors can contribute to periodontal disease. These include: • Hormonal changes: pregnancy, puberty, menopause, and monthly menstruation. • Illnesses: cancer, diabetes, HIV. • Bad habits such as smoking make it harder for gum tissue to repair itself. • Poor oral hygiene habits such as not brushing and flossing on a daily basis, make it easier for gingivitis to develop. Family history of dental disease can be a contributing factor for the development of gingivitis. What Are the Symptoms of Gum Disease? Gum disease may progress painlessly, producing few obvious signs, even in the late stages of the disease. Although the symptoms of periodontal disease often are subtle, the condition is not entirely without warning signs. Certain symptoms may point to some form of the disease. The symptoms of gum disease include: • Gums that bleed during and after tooth brushing • Red, swollen, or tender gums • Persistent bad breath or bad taste in the mouth • Receding gums • Formation of deep pockets between teeth and gums • Loose or shifting teeth Even if you don’t notice any symptoms, you may still have some degree of gum disease. In some people, gum disease may affect
12
KEY TO MIJAS COSTA
only certain teeth, such as the molars. Only a dentist or a periodontist can recognize and determine the progression of gum disease. How Can Gum Disease Be Prevented? Other health and lifestyle changes that will decrease the risk, severity, and speed of gum disease development include: • Stop smoking. • Reduce stress. • Maintain a well-balanced diet. • Avoid clenching and grinding your teeth. • Regular check ups Despite following good oral hygiene practices and making other healthy lifestyle choices, the American Academy of Periodontology says that up to 30% of Americans may be genetically susceptible to gum disease. And those who are genetically predisposed may be up to six times more likely to develop some form of gum disease. If anyone in your family has gum disease, it may mean that you are at greater risk, as well. If you are more susceptible to gum disease, your dentist or periodontist may recommend more frequent check-ups, cleanings, and treatments to better manage the condition. Is Gum Disease Linked to Other Health Problems? According to the CDC, researchers have uncovered potential links between gum disease and other serious health conditions. In people with healthy immune systems, the bacteria in the mouth that makes its way into the bloodstream is usually harmless. But under certain circumstances, these microorganisms are associated with health problems such as stroke and heart disease. Diabetes is not only a risk factor for gum disease, but gum disease may make diabetes worse. How Is Gum Disease Treated? The goals of gum disease treatment are to promote reattachment of healthy gums to teeth; reduce swelling, the depth of pockets, and the risk of infection; and to stop disease progression. Treatment options depend on the stage of disease, how you may have responded to earlier treatments, and your overall health. Options range from nonsurgical therapies that control bacterial growth to surgery to restore supportive tissues.

KEY HEALTH You May Still be Entitled to Health Care Breaking News: Everyone with a “Residencia” Permit Might be Entitled to Healthcare This is how the social security works now: If you are not working, a pensioner or were a resident after April 2012, they say you are not entitled to healthcare. However, in Article 3 of the Healthcare Law it states that “every person holding a valid Residencia permit earning less than 100,000 Euros a year is entitled to free NHS healthcare”. It never mentions any dates, they are using this in an indirect way, taking it from the new Residencia Law, where the police are supposed to ask for healthcare. In fact, I have been able to acquire an internal social security memo where it confirms this. But what happens when a person had healthcare coverage at the moment of taking out Residencia, and then lost it (for instance, that they cannot pay for private healthcare anymore or were working at that time but this is no longer the case)? Nowadays they are turned away, but two people with valid Residencia Certificates (both non-EU residents, but this

applies to everybody, no matter their country of origin) sued the INSS for healthcare on the basis of article 3 of the Healthcare Law.....and WON! One of these cases went to the highest court of Castilla y León because the social security appealed the first sentence, but it lost again until it reached the highest court (and no more appeals for them!). The second lawsuit mentions the first one as precedence, and the social security did not bother to appeal (wise decision). These types of situations will be seen more and more; as time passes, people that had healthcare when they got their residencia might lose that healthcare, and the INSS will either take away their healthcare or deny it. These two trials give hope that something could be done about it. Sadly, at first, until a case is won in Andalucía, I think that those people seeking healthcare will have to sue the INSS, but I think it will be worth it, especially with two cases as precedent. KEY HEALTH Kick Your Sugar Habit Sugar is one of the most important nutrients in our diet; it’s an essential substance that we need to survive. However, in recent times, over-consumption has become a real issue and one that we need to tackle head on. The problem is not just about sugar we stir into our morning coffee, but the sweetened additives hidden inside processed foods – sliced ham, pizza toppings, pork pies, fruit yoghurt, smoothies, cereal and tomato sauce – that we eat every day. High blood sugar can be caused by a number of factors: • Frequent sugar cravings or hunger pangs • Snacking between meals • Excess consumption of junk food and processed foods • Regular dieting • Weight gain Cut Your Cravings and Kick out Sugar! What is Chromium? Chromium is a mineral found in natural foods, but it is in short supply in the modern British diet. Chromium works in harmony with insulin, to maintain healthy circulating levels of glucose in the bloodstream. Chromium helps to avoid the “highs and lows” of hunger patterns which can often lead to cravings and snacking between meals. Bio-Chromium® contains an organic form of chromium called ChromoPrecise®. This key compound channels sugar safely out of your bloodstream. Here’s how: The key to ChromoPrecise® is the way in which chromium is embedded in a yeast structure that provides it with unique properties. Chromium is combined with several amino acids to form a natural molecule called Chromodulin that helps channel sugar into the body’s cells. Chromodulin supports insulin by “unlocking” cells from the inside, allowing the sugar (glucose) to enter the cell with ease. This stops blood sugar from damaging the body and prevents insulin resistance, which is a marker for disease. Babi’s Tips to Kick your Sugar Habit 1. Eat Regularly – three balanced meals help prevent your blood sugar levels dropping dramatically. The more hungry you feel, the more you will stray towards sugary snacks. 2. Don’t Start the Day with Sugar – Breakfasts containing high starch and added sugar will only lead to cravings later in the day. Eggs, fats and whole grains (whole oats, wheat) can help you feel fuller for longer, with slow-release energy. 3. Fruit, not Fruit Juice – Smoothies and juices shred or remove the fibre completely, which exposes us to high levels of fructose, which raises blood sugar. Stick to water. 4. Get Physical and Keep Busy – Exercise improves your insulin sensitivity, which helps with blood sugar levels. Filling your day with distractions, even a simple stroll, is good. 5. Take Chromium – Bio-Chromium® is proven to maintain
By Anni’s Vital Shop normal blood sugar levels therefore reducing cravings for sweets, snacks and junk food. It also helps to convert fat, carbs and protein into energy making it an ideal choice for slimmers. Babi Chana Bsc Nut Med – Nutritionist, Bio-chemist and Health Writer. Sugar, Cromium and Candida! Candida Albicans is the name of a yeast fungus that lives naturally in the gut of 80% of the population without causing harm. In some cases, it can spread too much and cause disease called Candidiasis. This could happen after treatment with antibiotics, which kill the bacteria that normally keep candida in check. Many health experts advise against all products containing yeast for people believed to suffer from Candidiasis. There is no reason for this, since foods with yeast do not promote growth or proliferation of Candida fungus in the gut. On the contrary, the easily absorbable chromium compounds in Bio-Chromium® (ChromoPrecise®) will benefit people with Candidiasis by helping to stabilise their blood sugar, which is often too high and volatile.

KEY HOLISTIC Welcome to women´s wellness guide. Winter is here so we need to take care of ourselves and what better way than to browse round the local markets and see what wonderful fruits, vegetables and nuts there are available at this time of year. Keep a nice basket in your home, it is not only healthy but looks amazing. This time of the year is a good time to learn to make new homemade soups and hotpots with lentils and beans, a healthy eating plan will help you along on your Hormone Balance journey. The holiday season is round the corner, but this doesn’t mean you can´t enjoy yourself. When balancing your hormones excess alcohol isn´t advisable, but a little of what you fancy is fine. I was very honoured to be asked by Sandy at Key to Mijas Costa to appear on Mijas 3.40 TV in October; it was a very interesting experience and gave me the opportunity to talk about the amazing natural progesterone cream ProgesterAll, its benefits and how it can help women of all ages and with all kinds of hormone related issues and symptoms. I talked about my own experiences, migraine and how the cream helped me. How can I help YOU? My dedication to helping women with hormone balance has become an important issue in my life; I want everyone to be free of these symptoms and offer free consultations to women of any age. If you feel you may have hormone related issues, but are not sure, please feel free to contact me to arrange a meeting to discuss your symptoms.
By Aly Farmer This month’s topic: Osteoporosis comes from Latin for porous bones, a progressive condition that diminishes the mineral mass content of bones, weakens their structure and makes them highly susceptible to fracture. The condition affects one in three women and a large number of men. This disease is not easy to detect, but with a bone density test it can be apparent and show the level of diminishment. A healthy diet of protein and calcium will certainly help; some alternatives to dairy products are also available, such as tofu, sardines, and sesame seeds. A healthy diet of fresh vegetables and fruit will be a tremendous help for everyone. If you are choosing soya juice, buy a quality one from a health store. ProgesterAll cream protects against osteoporosis, many women decide against artificial hormone treatments, rightly so, but using Natural Progesterone with a combination of supplements and a healthy lifestyle can be effective in limiting damage. Menopause is directly related to the dramatic rise of osteoporosis in older women. An even balance of oestrogen and progesterone are vital for the control of this condition as well as walking and some light, weight-bearing exercises. Life Style Changes: It’s important to remember that our lifestyle changes as we age and so should our diet. But light exercise is always of great benefit. In the Far East you will see people of all ages and especially the over 65´s exercising and regularly walking. For this reason they are not suffering some of the crippling complicated afflictions we experience in the west. Vitamin C, Zinc, Calcium with a Magnesium mixture is vital to supplement the use of Natural Progesterone Cream. In the next issue, I will be discussing health products to compliment Natural Progesterone Cream and chemical damage that affects female hormone balance. Tip for the month: Ask your doctor for a yearly blood test, including the female hormones and a bone density test too. Contact Me: Aly Farmer, Personal Consultant for John Lee MD Solutions. KEY FEATURE Changes at the Hippodrome Who remembers the floodlit summer nights at the Mijas Racecourse? Or the winter meetings on Sunday mornings when you could bask idly in the sun whilst studying the form between races? I certainly do; it was a real privilege to have enjoyed such experiences for over twelve years. Unfortunately, the maintenance bill for only fifteen racing days per year was approximately one million Euros, a cost which became ever more unsustainable for Mijas Council as the economic climate worsened. As a direct consequence, and after a total of 14 years’ activity, the Mijas Racecourse closed its doors in December 2013, resigned to its fate as a prime location for Sunday car boot sales. Things have changed. Now under new management, the same venue has galloped out of retirement into new and very green pastures. It is currently a hive of activity as it prepares for the next International Show Jumping event scheduled to be held there. The first of these, the Equestrian Tour Autumn Cup which was held in November over 3 weeks at the Hippodrome was a resounding success. The statistics alone are extremely impressive: more than 650 horses and 300 show jump riders from over 30 countries were competing for prize money worth over 300,000 Euros. The unequivocal success of the event has been largely attributed to the organisational capacities of Cop-Equisport, the company who are leasing 65% of the racecourse over 20 years at an annual tariff of 20,000 Euros. The Hippodrome now costs the Mijas Council absolutely nothing. Moreover, Cop-Equisport have invested more than 2 million Euros on the infrastructure for these events, including 3 allweather arenas - each with its corresponding warm-up area - a number of modern commercial zones plus ample parking for the horse transportation trucks. Some par ticipants from The Autumn Cup were so taken with the facilities - and, of course the climate - that they have decided to stay here with their horses, in order to train for the upcoming Winter Cup. Whether the riders are here shor t or long term they are, on most occasions, accompanied by their families; this fact undoubtedly augments the positive economic effect felt locally by a wide range of businesses notably hotels, restaurants, car hire firms and real estate rental agen-

By John Wood cies. One par ticipant who cer tainly couldn’t have managed without his family’s suppor t during his visit was a cer tain Salvador Astolfi who, at just ten years old, was competing alongside the adult riders. In any one arena over a 100 horses can be competing in one event. One interesting fact is that the prize money does not only go to the first three winners, it is distributed at times to competitors who come further down in the tour, up to 15th place or more. The Equestrian Tour Costa del Sol Winter Cup is announced to take part from the end of January until the middle of March. 1st Tour 27th January to 15th February 2nd Tour 24th February to 15th March Total prize money for the 6 weeks over 774,000 Euros. Although the entries open officially on 27th of December, up till now we already have over 400 stable reservations. With these reservations we have the following riders: Gregory Whatelet (BEL) Top 20 of the world Michel Hecart (FRA) Peter Charles (UK) Olympic Champion teams in London 2012 Sofia Abramovich (daughter of the owner of Chelsea FC) Laura Renwick - Winner of more than 10 classes in the Autumn Cup Robert Smith Other British Riders: Paul George Emma Stocker Michael Bates Graham Lovergrove Louise Saywell Anna Edwards Gemma Plumbey The plans are to have show jumping events throughout the winter seasons, with plans to organise other events through the summer months. I am not a betting man, but I’m definitely putting my money on the success of this horse. The Mijas Hippodrome is back with a vengeance - here’s to another fourteen years and, indeed, a whole lot more. Entrance is free, with free parking, bars and restaurants. Kids play area. You can also bring your well behaved dog as long as it’s on a lead. For more information see our web page www.costadelsoltour.com.

KEY FEATURE Mugge Fisher Meets Dario Poli “In an age where life, for most people, is pigeonholed and streamlined, it is rare to meet a true renaisssance man - someone who pushes back the barriers intellectually, artistically, physically and spiritually, a man of letters, a lover of freedom and expression, a proponent of the arts and a gifted musician”. I actually do not remember when I met Dario, was it 7 or 8 years ago? Anyway, that is not important, the important thing is that I met him – a meeting that I do believe was not a coincidence. Upon meeting him, talking to him, getting to know him, it was no surprise to me that we are both born under the same astrological sign, Aquarius, – a few days apart (different years though). This implies that we are much alike, which also means that from time to time we can drive one another crazy.....but not in a bad way, more in a creative way. Dario, is a very creative person. He has some fantastic ideas, some crazy ideas, some impossible ideas....but that has never, and will never stop him from realizing his projects and persuing his dreams and goals. I have had the pleasure of being involved in many of his projects, and am happy once again to being involved in his latest project, Amsterdam The Musical, which he has written together with David Mairs. A fabulous story, enchanting libretto and stunning music. “Dario why do you have this image of being a bit of a renaissance man? I spent many years living, working in England and abroad and I think it was because I was creative, involved in arts, business, show business, sports and intellectually interested in many different things about the world around me. Someone coined the phrase about me and it stuck. I am an individual who simply wishes to be a free spirit to decide my own destiny as much as I can without harming anyone. Where do you originate from as you have an Italian name? I was born in the little Scottish town of Darvel then raised and educated in Glasgow, in the tough old days and Glasgow was my first hard training rung in the University of Life. My father was an Italian from Tuscany who had lived in Scotland since he was eight years of age, and after having an adventurous life, being also an opera singer, met an attractive Scottish lass, got married and later I appeared on the scene. What is it about living in Spain that you most enjoy? That’s easy; it’s the great climate, the sea, the spacious countryside and light, the food and wine, and the relaxed, generally tolerant and courteus attitude of the Spanish people, whose cultural heritage I respect and admire.

Does Andalucia inspire you in any way creatively? Yes for some reasons a number of my creative events took root here, some you know of. I completed my first romantic novel (not yet published), a miltary book, scores of magazine articles; numerous paintings, the Marbella campaign that you got involved in. I co-wrote “”Lady X and the Power of Destiny, a musical drama about Princess Diana recorded by a symphony orchestra and some Riverdance singers In Dublin and then the writing of the music of “Corazon” for the Rome based charity “The Children for Peace”. The “Living in the Sun” album and the latest - “Amsterdam the Musical.” You have been involved with several charities. Can you tell us something about this? I mentioned The Children for Peace, a UNESCO recogised Charity led by the indefatigable Debra Mace, the President, and I had the pleasure to support the aids Charity Concordia a little. I wrote the music for the song “Marbella Marbella” to help inspire the revival of the city of that name, and set up www.marbellamarbella.es website, that continues to promote the Costa and the chartities. You have visited Holland on more than three occasions recently, on a project involving a musical. Can you tell our readers something about this? It was all inspired by a dream experience; writing my first song about Amsterdam, recording it again with the talented David Mairs in his studio and we came up with this idea that grew and morphed into a fully-fledged musical just being completed. Special thanks to you, Mugge, for designing the entire look of the project, as we now have a well-known Dutch production company curently showing serious interest in this work. Do you ever feel like putting your feet up and relaxing, as all these projects really need energy to develop and complete? NO! Never! And thank you Mugge for the interview and reminding me that I must get back to work. As I mentioned earlier, I am so happy, as a mere mortal, to once again being involved in a project with Dario. He has a way of making you feel like a million bucks, to make you feel understood and appreciated. The mixture of the Scottish and Italian blood, makes him a charming and debonaire Gentleman. Dario.....I have to borrow this sentence from a movie. So from me to you:“Here is looking at you kid” !! Keep on being creative, dream the dreams and make them come true. “No problem,” said Fran, “I can manage with Claudia here. If there’s time, I can teach her how to do a manicure. She picks things up really quickly. You go – you could do with a break.” Fran sounded confident. “Oh, thanks, Fran. I’ll pop along to the travel agent tomorrow to see if I can get a reasonably priced flight.” Kristin had missed her friends more than she liked to admit and Spain seemed a million miles away. “By the way, when you were having lunch, Mrs Lee called in with the five pounds that she owed.” Fran grinned. “Great, we’re quids in then!” Kristin quipped, and then added, “How did she seem?” Fran thought for a moment before replying, “She was sober, which I suppose is a bonus and she made another appointment.” “That’s good news. I think maybe she’s a bit lonely – being in a foreign country.” That evening, after Kristin had balanced the till, she sat and looked around the salon with satisfaction. The dream of running her own business had finally come true. She loved these quiet moments alone, when Fran and the clients had gone home. Wandering from cubicle to cubicle, she remembered with a wry smile how she had hired a Bedford van and driven to Surrey to purchase the equipment from the owner of a salon that had closed down. Harry had been a marvellous support, sharing the driving and helping her to put everything in its place. They had decorated the basement flat in cream, purchased new carpets and Harry had

put up louvre doors to form partitions in the large reception area. The other room was used for body treatments and had two massage couches installed in it. A small kitchen and bathroom led off the reception area and beyond that was a spacious room that Kristin had once used as a painting studio with Celine and Samantha. It was a poignant moment as she stood and looked around the room that had been a place of so much fun; she felt her throat constrict with sadness. The room felt forlorn and neglected, but her memories were sweet and would be permanently etched into her mind. Deep down, she knew it was only a matter of time before she would clear the room in preparation for putting up shelving for the skincare packaging. Celine and Samantha had taken their paintings down before they moved to Spain, but Kristin had left hers up on the walls. She picked up an oil painting brush that she had forgotten to clean, its bristles stiff with red paint. ‘Blood is thicker than water,’ she thought as she threw the brush in the rubbish bin. It was time to climb the stairs. She felt a desperate need to be with her children. “Mum?” Nina was pushing her Irish stew about her plate in a desultory fashion. “Yes, sweetheart.” Kristin wondered if all was well at school. “Are you going to Spain without us?” Nina stared at her plate. “I might, why – don’t you want me to go?” Kristin asked. KEY ASTROLOGY Astrology in Business Did you know that Astrology can be applied to every area of your life, including your business? I recently attended the ‘International Day for Women in Business’ at Andalucia Lab and thought this would be an opportune time to share some valuable insights into how Astrology can help make a critical difference between a business that starts off with momentum and one that limps along. This applies to anyone who is already in business or intending to start up on their own, and if used to full advantage, could prove to be an effective self-help tool! There are auspicious astrological times to start a business and there are difficult and challenging ones and knowing when to begin offers the best chance for success. You might need to do a little ‘stargazing’ to apply the following principles but the results could make all the difference. For the purpose of this article though, and to help you along I’ve listed and highlighted in red all the necessary dates you need to check in 2015. First off is to make a note of the Mercury retrograde periods in any one year; I’ve listed these below for 2015. For approximately three weeks, three times a year, the planet Mercury goes into ‘retrograde’ motion, that is it appears to be moving backwards in the sky as viewed from Earth. Mercury rules the mind, and is associated with all manner of communication including marketing, branding and PR, negotiations, contracts, commerce and sales etc. When it turns retrograde there is a higher chance of wasted efforts, misinterpretations, and slow forward progress. It would be true to say that Mercury retrograde is an important astrological cycle to observe for anyone in busi-

ness, whether starting one up or launching a campaign. Some common examples of miscommunication during a retrograde are marketing campaigns that turn out to be a waste of money, embarrassing typos in printed materials or meetings with a decision maker that are delayed or cancelled altogether. This isn’t to say that a venture started during a Mercury retrograde cycle will fail, but you don’t need to give over to more hard work or disappointment than necessary; instead fix a date which doesn’t coincide. Below are the periods when Mercury is retrograde in 2015:
21st January to 11th February, 18th May to 11th June and 17th September to 9th October
Another cycle of importance is that of the Moon! Knowing the two phases of the Moon’s monthly cycle can give you an advantage when it comes to beginning a new business/ initiative. Every 28 days the Moon moves through two phases: for two weeks it appears to be waxing (growing) and for the next two weeks it appears to be waning (shrinking). The Moon can be a reliable indicator of growth or difficulties encountered in the development of your professional/business life; the two week period while the Moon is waxing or growing is the time for activation; when it’s waning or shrinking is the time for retraction. In other words the best time to start a business or an initiative to advance further is just after a New Moon. As the Moon starts to wax and grow in size, imagine your business growing and when the Moon is waning take stock of that progress, make necessary adjustments and rest before taking your next initiative with the next new Moon.

Ok, that’s all well and good you say but where’s the evidence? Well we know the Moon influences the tides of all the water on earth, and bearing in mind humans are composed of mainly water – around 85% of our brain, 80% of our blood and 70% of our muscle is water - it doesn’t take rocket science to get the connection between the Moon’s phases and all life on Earth. Water moves in a wave action and the rhythm of the Oceans’ tides is the same as the rhythm of our breath. The tide comes in and goes out in exactly the same way as we breathe in and out, and your business has a similar cycle... whether you recognise this or not! Here is a list of New Moon dates in 2015, times are in GMT. 20th January 1.15 pm New Moon in Aquarius 18th February 11.48pm New Moon in Pisces 20th March 9.37am New Moon in Pisces (Solar Eclipse) 18th April 6.58pm New Moon in Aries 18th May 4.15am New Moon in Taurus 16th June 2.06pm New Moon in Gemini 16th July 1.25am New Moon in Cancer 14th August 2.55pm New Moon in Leo
13th September 6.42am New Moon in Virgo (Solar Eclipse) 13th October 12.06am New Moon in Libra 11th November 5.49pm New Moon in Scorpio 11th December 10.31am New Moon in Sagittarius It’s worth paying attention to these dates, you may find after a few months observing that your efforts pay off more easily or you experience less obstacles in your business activities and if it works to your advantage you could use the Moon cycles whenever you need help with strategic planning. Let me know what you discover... if your business or campaign does take off following a New Moon action or initiative I’d like to hear about it and with permission, share your story with others... Astrology for Beginners’ Workshops will be starting up again in the New Year... if you want to learn more about this fascinating subject or would like a private reading write to me for details at astrology4everyone@yahoo.co.uk. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year 2015 ... Janet ;)

KEY FEATURE The Questions You Ask Yourself Can Change Your Life!
By Joy Fahey
‘The quality of your questions to yourself determine the qualiity of your life’ When you ask yourself a question, your mind automatically searches for the answer. This doesn’t make any difference if the questions are positive or negative, your mind will search for the answer. If you ask ‘what if it all went right?’ as opposed to ‘what if it all goes wrong?’ The mind will latch onto that thought and can’t help but search for the answer. It’s a bit like putting a search into Google!
Assume life is for you and have an assumption of confidence. Really imagine your mind is like a computer; once you start asking the right positive questions, your mind will begin to search without your conscious volition. All you have to do is turn every negative question into a positive one! Once you feel you have a real sense of this, you can prefix some positive affirmations like I am successful, why am I successful? I am healthy, why am I healthy? I am happy, why am I happy? I am loving, why am I loving?
Ask questions like – • Why am I so successful? • Why is it so easy for me to be happy? • Why am I so rich? • Why am I so full of energy?
Let your mind seek the answer, don’t preempt it. You then could write down the answers that come to you. Pick a few that are the most important for you, put them where you see them everyday and say them as often as you can.
Rather than • Why am I not good enough? • Why am I not happy? • Why haven’t I enough money? • Why am I so tired? Your life depends on just two things - the quality of your communication with yourself and the comunication with the world outside. The more positively you communicate with yourself, the better your life will be. Either way it causes a ripple effect!
These exercises and affirmations put you in a different state of mind. You’re shifting your energy around and confusing the negative back chat. They change your state of mind, they change your state of being and therefore they change your thoughts about yourself. Never ask ‘how’ any of this will come to be, this isn’t your job. How is where the Universe comes in. You just never know ‘how’ things are going to manifest, what situations you might find yourself in that present opportunities. A ‘chance’ meeting, a new idea, a conversation with someone, you can’t predict these, they just happen when you get in the zone! When you’re open, when you’re in the right state of mind, this is when miracles happen. You can’t force this, you have to let go, relax and allow the things you desire to manifest and come to you. Doing these affirmations everyday will have a profound effect on your life!

KEY FEATURE Tuk Tuk Spain (Part 2)
By Key to Mijas Costa
Welcome to the final part of our feature on Tuk Tuk Spain. I will just mention briefly that there are Tuk Tuk tours now in some other European cities, but not all of them have the “green” credentials that Tuk Tuk Spain has achieved. As their website states: “100% Electric – 100% Clean – 100% Fun” This is also a synopsis from their website of what Tuk Tuk Spain is achieving: “Tuk Tuk Spain offers green, clean, silent, eco-friendly tours which take you to the most important sights and attractions in town. You can choose between the traditional ‘Classico’ model with capacity for 3 passengers plus driver, or the stretched ‘Limo’ version which seats up to 6 passengers. Our friendly drivers know all the best kept secrets of the city. Their knowledge will make your visit an unforgettable and unique experience. Although our vehicles look similar to the traditional Tuktuks from Bangkok, they comply with all European legislation and safety standards. Tuk Tuk Spain offers a number of predesigned tours, but you can also contact us to create your own personal tour around the city. Tell us where you would like to go or what you would like to visit and we’ll take you there! The minimum rental period is one hour”. Rudi van der Zalm has given me an insight into the progress of the project, which has moved forward quite considerably this autumn. “In Mijas we have had talks with several departments involved (turismo, vía pública etc) and Mr. Ángel Nozal, the Mayor of Mijas, seems to be very excited about our project

as you can see from the video of his TV appearance on the local television from a week ago (available on our Facebook page (In Spanish). The project has also been accepted in a startup accelerator called Malaga Open Innova which belongs to the town hall of Málaga, because of its innovative aspects and huge potential in a tourist destination like Malaga. The University of Malaga has also expressed its interest to include the project in the annual ‘spin-off awards’ which will take place in Spring next year. Both Myriam and I have attended the ‘Ser Emprendedor’ show at the Palacio de Congresos in Malaga two weeks ago and we have established several interesting contacts in a recent meeting with the Councillor for Tourism from Malaga at the Young Entrepreneur Association in Malaga (AJE - Asociación de Jóvenes Empresarios). As you can see we are trying our best to move forward and get this going as quickly as possible, but due to the fact, that this is a very innovative and unique way to discover a destination it is not easy to get a license for the tours, because there are several legal aspects which need to be covered which are not very clear in the current legislation….. Nevertheless we feel confident that in the end we will win the battle and we will be able to provide this great new service to the tourists who visit Mijas and the Costa del Sol. KEY SPORTS 2014 Masters Darts and Champion of Champions Snooker
By Steve Billingham
The 2014 Masters Darts The 2014 Masters darts was a fascinating tournament played over 2 days, 1-2 November featuring the top 16 players in the PDC. Michael Van Gerwen edged out Raymond Barneveld in round 1 while Phil Taylor borrowed shoes to play his matches and was edged out by James Wade 11-9 in the semi final. Favourite Van Gerwen was beaten by Merv King to set up a final clash with James Wade. King raced off into a 5-0 lead which incredibly became 9-2 and looked like a first televised PDC win for King. However, Wade scrapped the next 4 games to reduce the arrears to 6-9. King had missed doubles to extend the lead in 2 of these games. The crowd became boisterous and booed during throws as they had during other matches. Merv King reasonably asked if the referee ‘was going to do his job or just stand there.’ The referee had a word with the crowd to calm them down (to no avail). King then took out a 158 with bull’s eye to lead 10-6. However, he then missed 8 darts to take the match and Wade came back to pinch it 11-10 with a double top after being 2-9 down. James Wade had impressively defeated Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor back to back but in the final, it was more a case of Merv King losing (he should have won 11-6, then had double 4 for 11-7 and bull’s eye for 11-9) than Wade winning. Champion of Champions Snooker, Ricoh Arena, Coventry The constant buzz of a generator/air conditioning could be heard through a long and laboured match between Ding Jun Hui and Barry Hawkins, Ding eventually prevailed 6-5. It would be nice to see jug and glasses provided for the water instead of swigging out of bottles,’ remarked an observer. 3 frames up after 32 minutes, Judd Trump completed a 4-1 win over Stephen Maguire who had defeated Steve Davis

now out of the top 64 4-1 and returned in the evening for a best of 11 clash with Mark Selby. 15 seconds a shot man Trump moved into a 2-0 lead, Selby took the next to make it 2-1. A brisk 70 break made it 5-1 to Trump and he wrapped the match up 6-1 with a 119 break including a cracking cut long blue and a masterly shot off the cushion making a plant along the bottom cushion. Trump went 3-1 up then 4-2 in the semi-final with Neil Robertson, a close nip and tuck match with excellent safety. Both players as usual took their pots on. Robertson made it 4-3 then Trump extended the lead to 5-3. Robertson fired back in the next and the 10th frame was a tense affair which went to a black ball and a very long safety exchange in which both players had the black on the cushion. Trump was eventually able to cut the back in for a 6-4 win and a final with Ronnie O Sullivan. At one point, Trump refused a very tricky cut pink along the rail (which 2 or 3 years ago he may have taken on) to play safe. O Sullivan at his best Ronnie opened with a 137 break in the final and took the next. Trump hit back in frame 3 to trail 2-1 but breaks of 134 and 139 helped O Sullivan to a 6-3 mid-session lead. Trump ought to have won the first frame after the interval but didn’t, he broke down on 56 and O Sullivan cut a difficult pot into the middle pocket and cleared up. He took the next to lead 8-3 before Trump split the red and got among the balls clearing 102 to trail 4-8. Another century made it 5-8, a break of 69 made it 6-8 and 90 made it 7-8. O Sullivan scrapped over in the next after a careless Trump in-off on the green then sealed the match 10-7 with a 109 break to retain the trophy. ‘O Sullivan has been on auto pilot. His break building and potting into the middle pocket have been first class, it’s one of his better performances,’ remarked an observer.

KEY FEATURE Burn Calories by Figure Skating Marie, the figure skating teacher at Club de Hielo (Ice Skating Club) in Benalmadena says that it’s a real pleasure to teach figure skating at the only and unique Ice Rink in Andalucia. Skating is a great option for those who would like to improve coordination, balance and concentration. Skating is an aesthetic and enter taining exercise. It’s a very complete activity basically because to do the movements you use muscles you don’t normally use in other exercises such as twisting, braking and changing direction. You also burn more calories practicing skating than doing aerobics or riding a bicycle as you are not just using your legs. Skating offers the same benefits as running, with the advantage that your joints don’t suffer as it’s based on sliding. Half an hour on a bike will burn off 150 calories compared to 180 calories for aerobic exercise, whereas half an hour of skating will burn 300 calories. Skating does not only improve the physical wellbeing but also aerobic resistance as well as developing a sense of balance, especially in children who start at an early age. Other benefits of ice skating include improved blood circulation and also strengthen the leg muscles as well as augment-

ing concentration and strengthening the lungs and heart. At the beginning however, we must first learn how to keep upright but with time we can increase speed. Then you learn good skating posture (straight back, contract abdominals, shoulders relaxed, head held high etc) to get you on your way. About Marie: Marie has been figure skating since she was 5 years old. She competed for 10 years in her native country, The Czech Republic - a country with a big figure skating tradition. Marie is happy to be able to continue with this in the only Ice Rink in Andalucia which is close to her home. Marie gives private lessons at any level from kids from 5 years of age up to, and including, adults. She also has group class for adults every Saturday morning from 11.40 till 12.30. The cost of the group classes is just 35 Euros per month. There is a possibility for children who start learning at an early age to continue on to competition level. In fact there are already groups of mixed ages who are becoming successful at competition level. You can check the prices and hours with Marie on 677 129 395 or on www.facebook/patinajecostadelsol or email address patinajecostadelsol@gmail.com

KEY COMPUTERS Television over the Internet The festive season is rapidly approaching and there is probably nothing more like Christmas than watching a good movie after a family feast or maybe admire the efforts of the Premier League teams battling it out on a cold and snowy English afternoon, whilst you doze away in front of the fireplace. However, as you all know by now, you need the Internet and an IP-TV provider for this to happen. There are many providers out there, some good, others not so good, as you might also have experienced. Aside you will find a table with different ways of connecting to the Internet and another table with IP TV providers and their offers. These are all companies with a proven track record and can all be acquired in our offices. Of course there are others on the market, possibly just as good, but I would like to point out a few pitfalls, you should be wary about when you launch yourself into this new adventure. • Shop at a place where you can get all products in one go. It is no use signing up with an Internet provider in one place and an IPTV provider in another. When everything goes wrong later, they will blame each other. • Watch out for yearly packages or “one-time” payment offers. Is the company around later, when everything breaks down after three months? • Is there someone or somewhere you can turn to when in doubt, preferably a live person? • Contract period? Can you start and stop your subscription on a monthly basis? On the latter please notice that you can now sign up with Movistar and stop and start your subscription up to 6 months/year, something many people have been asking for. Come round to our offices and we shall tell you how. Requirements and prices Internet: You need an Internet connection with unlimited traffic and a minimum speed of at least 1 Mb/s, although preferably 3 Mb/s. The higher the speed, the better. Hablaya (Telefonica line) offers normally a telephone line-based solution, which will give you up to 10Mb/s, depending on where you live. You can also opt for various wireless providers, which in turn will give you everything between 1 Mb/s and 6 Mb/s, depending again on where you live and which provider you choose.

KEY PETS Top 10 Foods not to give your Dog So with Christmas and New Year fast approaching, I thought I’d let you all know about foods that have now been confirmed by vets to be dangerous to our dogs, some of which can even kill your dog in a matter of hours, others that if feed regularly, can cause dangerous toxins to build up causing serious complications or even death or simply causing skin and coat disorders. I’m going to stick to my Top 10 foods common around the house at Christmas and before some of you say “ but I’ve been feeding my dogs this for years” remember new research is being done all the time and this advice is supported by most vets...so I’ll leave you to have a read and may I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe one for all our fur friends. Keep all kind of chocolate out of the reach of your dog, as sadly each Christmas brings with it the sad stories of a much-loved pet losing its life because they got into boxes of chocolates left wrapped up under the tree or kids leaving them around where a dog can get at them. 1. CHOCOLATE – the darker, the more dangerous, with recorded deaths in dogs each Christmas, this cannot be any more dangerous. Containing Methylxanthines which can cause death, starting with vomiting, dehydration, stomach cramps, muscle tremors, heart rhythm problems, high temperature, seizures and death. 2. APPLE CORES – contain Cyanogenic Glycosides, also known as Cyanide. Symptoms – dizziness, struggling to breathe, seizures, shock.

3. YEAST DOUGH – aside from the toxicity from alcohol being produced in the stomach, yeast dough can also expand in intestines creating large amounts of gas, causing severe pain and potential of rupture. 4. CAFFEINE – contains stimulant known a Methylated Xanthine which can over stimulate the nervous system and heart rate. 5. BACON – fed regularly, high fat foods can lead to Pancreatitis in dogs. 6. MILK – Some dogs, like humans, are lactose intolerant, plus milk contains milk sugar that dogs don’t have enzymes to break down. While it is not life-threatening, it can cause serious tummy upset and bacterial overgrowth. 7. ONIONS – If eaten enough, onions can damage blood cells in dogs, causing them to become weaker and move around less. If enough onions are eaten, serious blood disorders can occur. 8. MACADAMIA NUTS – Incredibly harmful if eaten, causing toxic reactions needing emergency vet help. 9. GARLIC – The stronger the garlic, the more dangerous. Now there is much debate on this topic but the overall advice is to avoid as toxicity can build up and after a while, cause your dog problems with their blood. 10. Windows 10, 2015 The minimum system requirements for Microsoft Windows 10: Basically, if your PC can run Windows 8.1, you’re good to go. If you’re not sure, don’t worry… Windows will check your system to make sure it can install the preview. • Processor: 2 gigahertz (GHz) or faster • RAM: 2 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 3 GB (64-bit) • Free hard disk space: 16 GB • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver • A Microsoft account and Internet access

With Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1, Microsoft tried – not entirely successfully – to make tablets part of a continuum that goes from number-crunching workstations and high-end gaming rigs through all-in-one touchscreen media systems and thin-and light notebooks down to slender touch tablets. The general consensus is that it still has a long way to go to produce a unified OS. Recently, Microsoft publicly made the first steps to doing just that, with Windows 10. Skipping the Windows 9 name entirely. What devices will it run on? On all of them. Windows 10 will be for desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones and embedded products, too. It will run on the broadest types of devices ever, from the smallest ‘Internet of things’ device to enterprise data centres worldwide. Myerson said. “Some of these devices have 4-inch screens, and some will have 80-inch screens. And some don’t have any screen at all. What else is new? Some users have been confused by the Windows 8 interface and can’t figure out, what’s open on their screen or how to get back to an app. Windows 10 has a feature like OS X’s Mission Control that lets you zoom out and see everything that’s open on a PC, then select any app to enter it. You can also have multiple desktop configurations open and switch between them. So if you have two apps on the screen for a particular task, sized just how you want them, and then you change to some other apps, you’ll be able to get back to those first apps easily without having to resize them again. You can navigate through several of these desktop displays at the bottom of the screen. Have a fantastic start to 2015 and please feel free to come and have a look in our offices in La Cala de Mijas. We will be having a PC running on Windows 10…
Windows 10 The release of the Technical Preview of Windows 10 for laptops and desktops, a million and two more persons (Marcus & Marcel , Computercity.es) are currently testing Windows 10. Windows 10 will release, save for “later in the year” in 2015.

KEY FINANCE The Presidents’ Club International I believe that there are numerous communities of owners on the Costa del Sol of all sizes who, in these days of crisis, are finding the management of accounts and daily operations an arduous task, and, in some cases, simply cannot afford the expense of employing the services of professional administrators. Or have you simply drawn the short straw and been voted your urbanisation’s President by default as nobody would volunteer for the job and you don’t know where to start? Well, here’s the good news… The Presidents’ Club International is a bi-lingual organisation that will be up and running early in the New Year. It is ostensibly set up for expats from a panel of experts with many years’ experience in all the fields needed to support a community. These will be presidents in local communities themselves, who have close working relationships with local council members as well as a group of quality, professional service providers including accountants and lawyers. The Presidents’ Club International is an organisation run by Presidents for Presidents. And ALL FOR FREE! Exclusive membership is offered only to community presidents with access to the TPCI Portal where members can find everything they need from A to Z. There will be a regular

Newsletter giving updates on new legal developments etc as well as regular meetings with guest speakers on a variety of subjects of interest to Presidents, with a quarterly magazine also planned for the future. If, as a President of a community, you have a problem or fear of an emerging problem what do you do? You register with TPCI to obtain their free, expert advice and guidance for help with your problem. Anne Hernández, Joint Vice President of TPCI and a community president herself of long-standing, told me during our interview that it is amazing how many Presidents are not insured by their community and since the buck stops with the President, they are ultimately responsible for all matters relating to the community and are very vulnerable. It is envisaged that TPCI will eventually operate all along the entire Costa del Sol and may eventually need Regional Presidents for its Voluntary Help Panel. If you are a Community President and would like to join TPCI free of charge, register on line www.tpci.es - alternatively you can contact Anne Hernández on 951 40 24 34 or email info@ tpci.es for more information.

KEY FINANCE No Fun & Enjoyment for the Eurozone You know at this time of the year our minds are focussed on family and friends and of course fun and enjoyment and for the Eurozone much of the fun for 2014 had disappeared. Although strangely enough the middle of November did see the Euro enjoy a good week as it strengthened by three and a half Japanese Yen, one US cent and by a cent against Sterling. The Euro zone economic data were not very good and investors have yet to be convinced that the European Central Bank will be allowed to launch any meaningful money-printing stimulus programme. As long as it fails to do so, they will feel no compulsion to sell the Euro. The Troika audit committee once again found themselves in Greece attempting to agree on the last part of the bailout and the concern is, where is Greece likely to find around 2.5billion Euros to plug the fiscal gap. No it’s not a new tourist attraction! Germany thankfully performed better during November and should avoid a recession and France saw an improvement in Manufacturing PMI and improved order books. In the UK inflation crept up to 1.3% in October. OK a little higher, but only just above the above the low of 1.1% during 2009. Whilst lower energy prices and food costs are keeping inflation low and of course it’s encouraging for consumers particularly when wage increases remain low, it’s not the way to create a strong economy. Energy prices may remain low for the early part of 2015 as oil prices continue to fall. Mortgages continue to cause some concern although looking around for a cheaper mortgage in the UK has become a little easier as more

lenders are keen to be involved however the tighter lending criteria is causing a stall in the number of approved applications. House prices continue to vary across the UK and London whilst seeing a slight fall continue to be out of reach for most of us. UK government borrowing fell to £7.7bn in October, down £200m on the same month last year. The worryingly bigger picture is that borrowing since the start of the financial year in April is up by £3.7bn. That’s going to make it harder to meet the £11bn reduction that was set out in April’s budget. It seems tax collection is the biggest problem here as receipts have fallen. With The Black Friday trading day now having passed us it is hoped that increased sales will have added to the increase in retail sales of 4.3% y/y in October. Retailers will also be hoping that the Black Friday sales will be over and above those normally spent at this time of the year. Mr Carney from the Bank of England now has to decide when interest rates will increase in 2015, as a guess with the current situation I believe it will be early second quarter 2015. KEY FINANCE Fair Shares for English Pensioners! Divorce deals the easy way Peter and Sandra retired to sunny Spain. Their modest capital and Peter’s pension gave them all they needed for a comfortable lifestyle, with a lovely villa in Calahonda, regular evenings out with friends, and a wide range of interests like golf and bridge which were sociable and affordable. Then it all changed. Peter met Juanita, and announced he wanted a divorce. Sandra was devastated and came to me for help. The first piece of advice to Sandra was to consider whether she qualified for English divorce, although she was habitually resident in Spain. In England and Wales, divorce can be started in the country where you are domiciled, which is different and a bit complicated – but most expats will find they qualify when they take legal advice from an English solicitor. Sandra did, and I advised that the divorce law of England and Wales is considered to be the most advantageous for wives in the EU. However if she wanted to benefit she had better start quickly, as under the Brussels II European Directive it is a case of “first-come first-served” and if her husband started proceedings in Spain then she could not do so in England. Sandra was very upset that her long marriage had broken down, but she hoped that Peter would be fair and agree a settlement without aggressive court proceedings. She was particularly concerned about his pension, which was invested in a fund in England. I explained that the vast majority of divorces settle amicably, even if there is some difficult negotiation along the way, and financial proceedings can be agreed in England without the need for attendance at a formal hearing if both accept a fair settlement which the court can approve. But I was particularly concerned to warn her about Spanish law and pensions. In England, a Pension Sharing Order is very common in divorces, and this will reorganise the exist-

ing pension provision into two completely separate funds to support each party independently for the future. Such orders cannot be made by a Spanish court and enforced on an English pension fund, although the Spanish court will take English law into account. Even if both husband and wife agree, the English pension trustees cannot implement a Spanish court order under UK legislation, so the order does not work. It was possible to make a further application in the UK, with more expense, to convert the Spanish order into an English Pension Sharing Order in the same terms, but an unexpected consequence of new EU legislation on Maintenance Regulation (which was designed to stop multiple applications for maintenance in different EU countries) makes that difficult if not impossible. So my advice to Sandra was to issue a divorce petition in England. Then try to negotiate a settlement by agreement, including an enforceable pension sharing order, and try to get it all dealt with if possible without having to attend court in person. If Peter did not agree then of course we would proceed to court hearings, but these could be short-circuited at any time if a deal was reached. Of course all of the above is a fiction – but very similar to many cases I have dealt with. If any of this applies to you – call me on 0044 1386 555114 or send an email via the contact link on my website www.divorcefinance.co.uk for FREE telephone advice before you decide where and how to divorce. Remember that the vast majority of cases settle without a horrible court trial. The actions you take now are an investment for your future so that you can enjoy the rest of your retirement with comfort and independence. over 17 years ago! Other recommendations I will give in the write up for the new sister restaurant in El Rosario below. Portions are always generous and best quality ingredients are used. You will certainly feel full when you leave and also pleasantly surprised at what good value for money the food is. Kids’ menu available. Oh, and before we forget, did we tell you that Korma also deliver? If you enjoy Indian cuisine, this really is the place. We guarantee you will enjoy your visit. Please tell them at Korma that you read about them in the Key. Korma have got it just right and consistent with friendly service, good quality ingredients, plenty of choice and good value for money. Key recommended. And now there’s Korma 2 (see below)!
KORMA 2 Recently opened in El Rosario mountainside next to the Yellow Car. Sister restaurant to Korma, Riviera del Sol. Magnificent all weather terrace. Great quality food, service and reasonably priced. If you live in the El Rosario/
Elviria area and have not had the pleasure of eating at the ever popular Korma in Riviera del Sol, then lucky you as Korma has now just opened its sister restaurant under the same management team next to the Yellow Car! Handy to know if it is late and you are passing by this area on the way back from Gib! Chef trained for six months at Korma, Riviera so you will be sure that the standard is up to scratch. The pièce de resistance (apart from the food of course) is the extensive all weather terrace. Lovely, clean, modern ambience. Friendly helpful service, quality ingredients, good portions and reasonably priced. Same menu as Korma, Riviera. For recommended dishes, please see Korma, Riviera above and here I would also mention some more, including my particular favourite, Muragh Mango, which is a lovely mild chicken curry with fresh mango in a creamy sauce with different spices. If you like it hot, then I am sure the Phal packs a punch! Included in the vegetable selection in Bhindi Bhaji (Lady’s Fingers), which is really excellent. Korma has a great choice on the menu and can make any dish as mild or as hot as you like. Kids menu and of course free delivery to the local area. Enjoy!

Clark – Clark Slow industrial sounding techno album on the Warp label. Steve Bicknell – Atonement EP Lost Recordings 9 (Cosmic Records) Track B1 is very bleepy, repetitive but outstanding, the roughest thing I’ve heard this year on Surgeons Rinse FM show. Proof in the pudding that samey tracks can work. Orbital – Stringy Acid The standout track off Orbitals last album Wonky. Triumphant sounding strings and claps, an old school funky Detroit sound.

TECHNO TOP 5 Brought to you by Steve Billingham Dynadec – Purple Diaphysis Drexciya sound alike electro with moody, eerie chords coming in at the end. Rolando – D and N Ep On the Ost Gut Ton label with a squelchy, catchy hook-line. Simple but skilfully executed.

KEY FEATURE Norval’s Sensible Scotch Whisky I first came across Ian Norval in October. I was a little early for a wine pairing event that I was attending and so had a wander around in El Zoco. Ian was wearing a kilt and was offering free shots of his fine Norval’s Sensible Scotch Whisky. I was intrigued and the Whisky went down a treat! Ian Norval represents the latest generation of the Norval family, who created a unique Scotch Whisky in 1857. Although the original recipe is no longer available, Ian owns the patent for the name “Norval’s Sensible Scotch Whisky and is reintroducing it to the market. The original distiller was Ian’s Great Grandfather, then licensee of the locally coveted Chapel Tavern in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Norval’s was first made in an illicit still inside the premises of the Chapel Tavern, using water from the local stream (The Chapel Burn). Said to take its distinctive flavour from the waters of the Chapel Burn, near Kirkcaldy, Scotland the NORVAL Sensible Whisky was sold in the local public house in Chapel Village. The term “Sensible” was adopted to convey a whisky of real credentials for the regular whisky drinker without the ostentation and price premium of some of the large brands of the time. Why is Norval’s Whisky “Sensible”? “Sensible means to be appreciated by the senses. Sight – Our whisky can be appreciated by the sense of sight; its amber colour suggests the fields of golden grain which were its origin. Smell – It’s obvious when you experience the delightful liquid in the glass. Taste – The taste of pure Scotland, reminding one of the original whisky’s Lowland home. Touch – Once the Sensible touches your tongue, savour this quality blend. Hearing – We hope you have heard our message”. Norval’s Sensible Scotch Whisky is a rewarding experience and remember - always drink sensibly. Label Design The bottle front label design has remained relatively unchanged since first conceived. The central visual features a
By Key to Mijas Costa
unique photograph of the village of Chapel, where the Tavern was the focal point. The matt gold, brown and cream convey a sense of timeless nostalgia, whilst clearly reflecting a whisky of unpretentious pedigree. A rear of bottle would espouse the special heritage of Norval’s, adding substance to and reinforcing the quality appeal of the front label. Norval’s Sensible Scotch Whisky is a fine example of the art of Scotland’s blended whisky -contains two grain whiskies and over 40 different malt whiskies judicially chosen and blended together to achieve an excellent roundness, depth and quality whisky that will duly remain long in the memory of those fortunate to have the opportunity to taste. The whiskies have an age of between 3 years and 7 years and represent also the traditional heritage of Norval’s handed down over the last two generations. Norval’s Sensible is available in 70cl bottles. They also supply Norval’s flasks, miniatures and other related products which they can send worldwide for a unique ideal gift. Ian Norval, the great grandson of Henry Norval, has reintroduced a new blend of Norval’s Sensible Scotch Whisky. The label shows its provenance, and the whisky needs no further recommendation. Norval’s Sensible Scotch Whisky is also now available on the Costa del Sol. Ian is looking for a distributor here in Spain. For more information see contact details below.

KEY FEATURE Ristorante Zia Lola Celebrates its 1st Anniversary
By Key to Mijas Costa
Our good friend, Dolores, who we knew previously from the excellent Fellini’s at the Aztec Club in Riviera del Sol made the best decision of her life when she had to leave Fellini’s behind as the whole Club was bought out and has been the subject of massive renovation work ever since. Dolores picked a run-down old restaurant close by her home and brought the same concept to her new venue, Zia Lola, in Mijas Golf- good quality, genuine Italian food at reasonable prices and friendly, Italian service. It was not plain sailing at the beginning but now her previous chef and staff are back on board again and the testament to her success is

a packed restaurant day after day, even in the low season. Dolores is taking a well-earned break and Zia Lola will reopen its doors on 15th January to her very appreciative customers. Zia Lola celebrated its 1st Anniversary on Saturday 6th December and it was party time until the early hours. We would like to thank Dolores for a lovely evening, go and have a good rest and we look forward to seeing you again in January. A word of advice – please book your table as this restaurant is so popular. Zia Lola is opposite the Hotel Eurostars in Mijas Golf. Please see page 57 for more information. Here’s to many more anniversaries, Dolores!!

KEY FEATURE Blogging for Beginners Blogging (a web-log) is a fabulous way of updating your website and creating a conversation with potential clients, which can spill over into your social media or vice versa. Blogging is nothing to be scared of. Think of it as an online diary of activities and ideas. Once you have the right platform to do it from, you really can write what feels right. Even if you don’t have a traditional offline business, blogging is a great way of passing on your knowledge and opinions. Imagine creating your own Life Story on the web for the grand-kids perhaps! Here are some top tips – 1. Write for yourself – choose a topic you are interested in and write from the heart. It could be about a new product you are selling or an opinion on your niche area, but either way, it needs to matter to you 2. Be consistent – set a content creation calendar for yourself, so that the articles you post on your blog are clearly linked, but different at the same time.
By Fiona Catchpowle 3. Give away your knowledge – don’t be afraid to showcase what you know. Whilst you don’t want to be a ‘show-off’ for the sake of it, sharing your skills is of real added value to the right audience. 4. Use your own voice – stay true to yourself, it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. People don’t follow sites, they follow people. 5. Give it time – the web is a big noisy place and it may take a while to get noticed. You also need time to find your own rhythm and style. 6. Keep it short – short enough to be interesting and log enough to cover the subject, about 300 words minimum and a1-2 minutes read time length. 7. Enjoy it! Check out more tips at fionacatchpowle.com/bloggingforbeginners. For details on group or one to one training on Blogging, Facebook and Social Media, please contact me via email fiona@fionacatchpowle.com.

RESTAURANTS COSTA DEL SOL
Just over a year ago, Key to Mijas Costa offered local restaurants the opportunity to join them in their new online smart-device friendly, Restaurant Guide. Those who joined received a one-page website from a basic page or a complete profile which included a legend, strap line, text, photos, menus and map plus a first page listing in Google, which incidentally has since thrown up some interesting results! Due to the success of our online guide, we are currently developing restaurantscostadelsol.com using the same protocols. This will be available to all bars, cafes and restaurants along the Costa del Sol and will be a very useful and modern tool to help them promote their business. We would expect to see results similar to the 100’s of first page listings enjoyed by keytomijascosta. com. Of course restaurantscostadelsol.com will also have the same easy functionality as keytomijascosta.com, i.e. tap to call, tap to email, click on the map, but also with a search capability for area and type of restaurant – so you will be able to view it perfectly not only from your smart phone or tablet, but also on your PC or laptop. Launch date is 1st April 2015 and the standard entry rate will then be 250 Euros per annum (plus IVA), with one month extra free in the first year. However, if you sign up between now and launch date, you will benefit from an exceptional prelaunch price of only 50 Euros for the first year (which will run from 1st April 2015 to 31st March 2016). This is an opportunity not to be missed - less than 1 Euro a week for a first page, world-wide listing of all that your venue has to offer. Please see page 69 for more information.
