KEY BEAUTY Genie Complete Non-Surgical Face Lifts
By Tracy, Hair Magic
The Genie Complete Non-Surgical Face Lift is one of the very best non-surgical lifts on the market today. Unlike many others, your face will stay lifted and you only have to repeat it monthly. HOW DOES IT WORK? The Genie builds up the muscle tissue in your face giving you a slightly fuller look. It’s a bit like when you go to the gym and exercise; your muscles grow harder and lift – it’s exactly the same with the muscles in your face only the machine is exercising the muscles for you. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? At first you need a course of ten treatments, 2 or 3 a week to get the initial lift, then just once a month. Each treatment takes 20 minutes. IS IT PAINFUL? It is not painful at all. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? We have lowered the price over the last couple of years by half and a course of 10 treatments will cost 200 Euros. If you are interested, you can come and see the machine and have a FREE TRIAL. If you need advice about your hair or any beauty treatment that we offer, don’t hesitate to come in and talk to TRACY.

KEY HEALTH What is Bio-Pycnogenol ® Pycnogenol ® (pic-noj-en-all) is a natural plant extract obtained from the bark of the French Maritime Pine, trees which grow exclusively in the south western coastal region of France, in sustainably managed plantations free from chemical pesticides and fertilisers. Pycnogenol ® contains a unique combination of beneficial active substances called flavonoids, some of which are responsible for the colouring of fruits and vegetables. Pycnogenol ® is regarded as one of the so-called “superfoods”, because of its high content of antioxidants. The health benefits of pine bark extract have been recognised in traditional medicine since the sixteenth century. Modern scientific research has resulted in the publication of more than 200 studies, including 30 controlled clinical trials, documenting the safety and beneficial effects of Pycnogenol ® in cardiovascular health, immune function and skincare. Why should you take Bio-Pycnogenol ®? Fight Free Radicals Because of its high content of powerful antioxidants, Pycnogenol ® is one of the most effective natural scavengers of free radicals. These are toxic substances produced continually within the body as an unwanted by-product of normal metabolism, as well as by exposure to environmental pollutants such as pesticides, cigarette smoke and UV light. Maintain Healthy Circulation Pycnogenol ® helps to strengthen and seal the blood vessel walls of arteries, veins and capillaries. Pycnogenol ® helps to maintain normal blood pressure, inhibits cholesterol oxidation, and promotes the normal clotting of blood. These characteristics are particularly relevant for maintaining health blood circulation during long-haul air travel. Immune Health Pycnogenol ® helps to maintain a healthy immune system and normal inflammatory response. Pycnogenol ® modulates the activity of Nuclear Factor Kappa B, the so-called cellular “master switch” controlling initiation of the inflammatory response. Inappropriate inflammatory response by the immune system can result in conditions, for example, such as hay fever, asthma and certain types of arthritis. Pycnogenol ® and the Skin Pycnogenol ® helps to maintain the strength, flexibility and suppleness of skin. Antioxidants in Pycnogenol ® inhibit free radical induced degradation of collagen, which provides the support structure for skin. In addition, Pycnogenol ® maintains the microcirculation of blood to the skin, ensuring the latter is well provided with nutrients. All of Pharma Nord’s skincare products feature Pycnogenol ® as a key ingredient. Bio-Pycnogenol ® and You How much Bio-Pycnogenol ® should you take? Pharma Nord recommends that you take 2 tablets twice daily for the first two weeks, followed by one tablet twice daily thereafter. Is Bio-Pycnogenol ® Safe? Pycnogenol ® boasts one of the most comprehensive science
By Anni’s Vital Shop portfolios of any naturally occurring nutritional supplement. Extensive research has reported the toxicity to be extremely low, with no reports of any significant adverse effects in clinical trial studies. There are no known drug interactions or contra-indications. Pregnant of lactating women, and those on medication, should seek professional advice before taking any nutritional supplement. “Bio-Pycnogenol ® is 30 times stronger than vitamin E in antioxidant activity and 50 times stronger than vitamin C. One of its main uses is as a natural alternative to antihistamines for hay fever and allergies”. Gareth Zeal, Expert Nutritionist. Exceptional Quality and Great Value for Money A price comparison has identified Bio-Pycnogenol ® as the best value for money Pycnogenol ® product in the UK amongst leading high street brands. All nutritional supplements marketed by Pharma Nord are produced to pharmaceutical standards, using Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) – a guarantee of quality and safety and are nanotechnology free. KEY HEALTH Dental Implants
By Belinda Pamos, Sonrisa
Dental Implants have changed the face of dentistry over the last 25 years. What are dental implants? What is the history of dental implants? And how are they used to replace missing teeth? What is a “Dental Implant” A dental implant is actually a replacement for the root or roots of a tooth. Like tooth roots, dental implants are secured in the jawbone and are not visible once surgically placed. They are used to secure crowns (the parts of teeth seen in the mouth), bridgework or dentures by a variety of means. They are made of titanium, which is lightweight, strong and biocompatible, which means that it is not rejected by the body. Titanium and titanium alloys are the most widely used metals in both dental and other bone implants, such as orthopaedic joint replacements. Dental implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device. Titanium’s special property of fusing to bone, called osseointegration (“osseo” – bone; “integration” – fusion or joining with), is the biological basis of dental implant success. That’s because when teeth are lost, the bone that supported those teeth is lost too. Placing dental implants stabilizes bone, preventing its loss. Along with replacing lost teeth, implants help maintain the jawbone’s shape and density. This means they also support the facial skeleton and, indirectly, the soft tissue structures — gum tissues, cheeks and lips. Dental implants help you eat, chew, smile, talk and look completely natural. This functionality imparts social, psychological and physical well-being. What are the options for implant tooth replacement? Single Tooth Replacement: Immediately (at the same time
14

an implant is placed) or after a period of healing, an abutment is attached to the implant. This is a device that “abuts” or joins the implant to a tooth form called a crown, which replaces the tooth part you see in the mouth. It will hold a custom-made crown that the dental laboratory will fabricate and match to your existing teeth. The custom crown is cemented or screwed onto the abutment to permanently keep it in place. Once the crown is in place, it should be indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Fixed Multiple Tooth Replacement: As with single tooth replacement, temporary healing caps or abutments may be placed on multiple implants until the healing phase is complete. After healing, permanent abutments are attached to the implants. They can attach to custom-made crowns or bridgework. The teeth have been replaced without disturbing the healthy teeth next to them, and bone loss has been halted. “Click System” for dentures over Implants: If all of your lower teeth are missing, depending on the design of the removable restoration, two to six implants may be used to support a lower denture. If all of your upper teeth are missing, a minimum of four implants may be used to support an upper denture. Removable dentures are often used to replace extensive tooth, bone and gum-tissue loss, thus providing support for the facial skeleton, lip and cheeks. A new denture can have attachments that snap or clip it into place on the implants. Design variations are often related to your bone density and number of implants present; your dentist will discuss these options during your consultation. A significant advantage of a removable denture is facilitating the cleaning of the dental implants.

KEY HEALTH What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage? Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an advanced therapy in which the practitioner uses a wide range of specialised and gentle rhythmic pumping techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels which carry substances vital to the defence of the body and removes waste products. The first visit will include a consultation during which the therapist will recommend the number and frequency of further sessions. Each session will last approximately one hour. Where appropriate the therapist will work in conjunction with your medical practitioner. What are the benefits of MLD? MLD is both preventative and remedial and can enhance your general well being. Furthermore, MLD: - Is deeply relaxing and can help with stress, tension and anxiety. - Promotes the healing of fractures, torn ligaments, sprains, strains and reduces all kinds of pain, even dental pain. - Can improve many chronic conditions: including sinusitis, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, acne and other skin conditions. - May strengthen the immune system as part of ‘detox’ treatment. Can help with weight loss, cellulite and stretch marks. - Relieves fluid congestion: swollen ankles, tired puffy eyes and swollen legs due to pregnancy.

- Is an effective component of the treatment and control of lymphoedema (which may occur after cancer treatment) and assists in conditions arising from venous insufficiency (varicose veins). - Promotes healing of wounds and burns and improves the appearance of old scars. - Can be used to speed healing after cosmetic surgery, and also before surgery to prepare the body for the trauma of the surgeon’s knife. And much, much more! The History During the 1930’s Dr. Emil Vodder created a unique range of movements which brought relief from chronic conditions such as sinus conditions and catarrh. Since Vodder’s pioneering work, MLD has spread worldwide and has become a popular treatment in many European hospitals and clinics. It has now gained acceptance worldwide as a component in the treatment and control of lymphoedema. Patricia Kaines has been an MLD practitioner since 2002 and regularly returns to the UK to attend MLD workshops and to keep up to date with latest developments as part of her Continuous Professional Development. KEY HEALTH Getting Ready for Spring
By Anne Stark
As the bikini season looms, if you are anything like me, there’s a last minute panic to start slapping on the firming creams, cut back on drinking and up the number of squats in the gym (well starting them at least) in a bid to banish that dreaded orange peel. So how come we do all that and still have lumps and bumps on our thighs and bum for our holiday? Well follow my cellulite-busting plan and say goodbye to those dimply thighs in time for your summer holidays. So where are you going wrong? First you need to know your cellulite type. Cellulite is not a fat problem – that’s why super skinnies can’t escape it. It has more to do with your skin. It is caused by decreased circulation. This deprives the skin’s dermal layer of nutrients it needs to stay strong, so it’s unable to prevent fat migrating up. The result is pockets of fat and the orange peel effect you see. However, there are four different types of cellulite – they range from the MINOR (not visible when standing but skin creases when it’s pinched), MILD (skin dimples when pinched), MODERATE (dimples seen when standing) and SEVERE (dimples seen when lying down). How to beat Cellulite for Good For minor or mild it might be enough to drink more water and use anti-cellulite cream, whereas moderate or severe require: • Daily body brushing • Massage • Treatments • Diet change because a cream on its own won’t do it Daily Body Brushing Anni’s Vital Shop sells a bamboo bath brush for under 10 Euros and is perfect for dry brushing. If you need any help on how to use it, just let me know. Massage When you rub on your cellu-cream or oil, there are usually instructions on how to massage it into your body. ATACHE has Model Fit at 36 Euros for 200ml and CV Primary Perfect Body at 34 Euros for 150ml with essential oils; both are excellent for this. You only need to use these in the affected area twice a day. If you are used to regular massage treatment, take your treatment cream with you. As you know, I do special offers for massage packs. Treatments The Genie Complete programmes are designed to obtain the best results for specific treatments such as slimming, toning and cellulite. The Genie Complete system provides treatments which will allow you to see and feel immediate, verifiable results (a course of treatments starts from 250 Euros for 10 treatments). Diet We all know what not to eat, to drink more water, eat more vegetables and fruit and to limit alcohol and portion size. If Herbalife is your thing, then that is an excellent choice. After a body brush and shower, use cream all over your body and use cellu-cream on your cellulite areas. You must commit yourself to this and if you start now, you will see results. Get Results Facials When you learn to love, you have a creative soul. ATACHE invents products for all those real needs. Every woman, and every man, each one is unique. Science at the service of beauty – Atache is the leader in the philosophy of scientific cosmetics. Cosmetics from ATACHE embody perfect balance between beauty and care, between pleasure and the final results. There are specific products for anti-aging, re-firming, anti-wrinkle, antioxidant C-Vital, anti-pigmentation. In all treatments the products are in single doses so they are always fresh, just right and a generous dose just for you. All my facials include an eyebrow colour and shape, use of ultra-sound for deep cleansing and the penetration of treatment products. Four Seasons Facial This is a treatment for freeing the skin of dead cells, deeply moisturising, toning and making it firm. In this way the skin wakes up, becoming radiant and compact. The secret? - using ultrasound at special patented frequencies. This, together with CV-Primary Essence Natural Cosmetic Visage based on aromatherapy is an all-time favourite facial treatment. All my facials are custom made for your skin’s needs to guarantee the best results and customer satisfaction.

KEY FEATURE Positively Pink & Blue Positively Pink & Blue are the Mijas based charities offering FREE breast and prostate/testicular cancer screening to UK expatriates living on the Costa del Sol. During 2014 over 800 women accessed our FREE breast screening programme with thankfully only a small number of ladies receiving a positive diagnosis. Some of these ladies have already had their treatment and we are pleased to report they are doing well but Positively Pink continues to support those ladies who are still receiving treatment. 2014 was the first full year of the Positively Blue programme to provide education, awareness and support for prostate and testicular cancer. During the first year the free screening programme has diagnosed several men with Prostate cancer, all of whom are doing well and being treated. In its first year Positively Blue had an overwhelming response to the 400 free appointments that were on offer, in-fact the charity funded a total of 436 appointments for prostate cancer screening and educated them all on testicular cancer and the need to self examine. During the course of 2015 we have set ourselves the challenge of offering 600 free breast screenings and 400 free
Prostate blood tests/testicular cancer screening. The 2015 campaign begins in February and appointments are available now by calling 952 835 776. For us to continue to be able to offer these FREE services we need your support, as we need to raise the necessary funds to pay for the mammograms, ultrasounds and PSA blood tests. As a charity we are very proud of the fact that ALL of the monies we raise are used solely for the purpose of funding the professionals to carry out the radiography and blood analysis, all of the charities costs are absorbed by the El Oceano Hotel & Spa and Clinica Medicare in La Cala de Mijas. .... did you know 50,000 women and 300 men will hear the words “you have breast cancer” every year in the UK alone and this number continues to rise... 1 man dies every hour of Prostate cancer..... “early detection is your best protection” Help us to help you.... KEY HOLISTIC The Healing Qualities of Sound Therapy I continue to enjoy the experience of Sound Therapy with Christine Heckel who is a fully-qualified,official representative of the Peter Hess Institute (Germany). You can see my previous article on http://www.keytomijascosta.com/ issues/96/ page 19 but I would like to update you on my experience so far. Christine welcomes you and puts you at your ease. She makes sure that you are comfortable with legs supported on the massage table. You are always fully clothed during this treatment so you just need to pop your shoes off. During this cooler winter weather, Christine wraps you in a soft, warm blanket and talks gently to you before you hear the first beautiful vibration of the Himalayan Singing Bowls. I now find that my mind and body connect instantly to this vibration – it not only relaxes me instantly (something I find particularly hard to do) but I also feel the vibration in various parts of my body immediately and even the release of knots in various areas. The great thing is that the effects of the session continue to work long after the treatment has finished. Various parts of my body that were previously completely rigid in contraction are now soft, and the best part of all is that the pain has diminished to the extent that although
20
KEY TO MIJAS COSTA
still uncomfortable at times (hours upon hours sitting in front of the computer do not help much!), I no longer have the need for pain killers. I have found that even faced with stress, that I am far more relaxed now and sleep well at night. Where I was previously absolutely exhausted, I am now able to continue with so much more energy and my mind buzzes with ideas and things I would like to achieve. Sound massage can help with cervical and shoulder tension, headaches, digestion and abdominal tension as well as aid better, deeper respiration and improve concentration and well as producing inner calm, resulting in a reduction in pain and an increase in creativity and ultimately productivity too. I would highly recommend it. Christine has likened Sound Therapy to chiropractic treatment – some people just need one treatment and everything is back to what it should be while others present further complications. Please contact Christine for more information, to book a one-to-one session or attend one of the many workshops she organises on the Costa del Sol. From 2009 - 2012 - University of Bristol: Post Graduate research into tinnitus and tinnitus management. More reassuring is the fact that Peter Ormrod is the son of deaf parents, has a severe hearing loss and has worn hearing aids for over 40 years; from the early NHS hearing aids to today’s wearable computers. KEY FEATURE Dario Meets the Subject of War There is considerable visual evidence shown by the international media of wars large and small currently taking place around the world, and threats of new wars being openly discussed by professional pundits, politicians, legal experts and business elites, most of whom have never been in a real conflict or faced personal danger or injury. We, the ordinary public, going about our everyday business, are bombarded daily in the media outlets by the word “war”; the war on want, war on drugs, war on poverty; war on carbon, war on disease, war on crime, war on illiteracy, war against injustice, war of aggression, war of words, war against racism, war against intolerance and the war on terror. It appears that mankind is in a state of eternal war against its own social problems, the class war and now cyber wars, but with no solutions in sight. We are told that war is the “price of freedom.” However from an historical perspective, in reality it usually results in the “loss of freedom” when we engage in war. The subtle infiltration of the word “war” into our subconscious is constant and needs to be understood as the ramifications can be very serious. Any war enterprise however well prepared, is a hazardous, unpredictable undertaking, resulting in horrific experiences for those who fight them, as well as for the civilians, the animal life, the waste and contamination of our natural environment, not to mention the physiological and unending psychological trauma and problems of the victims. All suffer the painful consequences, including the enormous destruction of property, infrastructure and the irreplaceable loss of priceless art, culture and civilization. All this barbarity because of the deliberate intentions and actions, of those so few in number, using laws for war, created by the few for this purpose, who lead us the majority, into these risky adventures and horrendous conflicts, that in final analysis, come to an abrupt end usually due to immense material and human destruction, the high financial losses and the sheer exhaustion of the populations involved. Conflicts always have to be resolved by some form of dialogue and peaceful agreements, despite who is the winner and loser. All wars by their very nature are vile, nasty and destructive, as the finest of our youth at the orders of the oldest, perish or are permanently disfigured in conflict. War, heavily sustained by a suffocating blanket of misinformation and double speak, is

death, murder, rape, torture, incarceration and ruin. War always destroys wealth and liberty and it can eradicate civilizations. According to George Orwell, ‘all the war propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting.’ Amazingly despite all the above knowledge of war and its consequences, this peace normally holds until the next war breaks out and then the whole grizzly business begins again with renewed vigour, each side forcefully proclaiming their just cause, ingeniously holstered onto the trusting simplicity of the enthusiastically stimulated tribal patriotism of the majority of the populations of those involved, who still obediently follow the instructions and orders of the few, as if nothing had been learned from the previous tragedy, as they march meekly into the open doors of the house of carnage, to be savagely minced in the unmerciful war machine. Their cries of pity and fear vanishing unheeded into the universal ether, together with millions of tears washed away into a river of their precious blood. Arthur Koestler observed. “The most persistent sound which reverberates through men’s history is the beating of war drums.” “I confess without shame that I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded, who cry aloud for more blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is Hell.” ~ Civil War Union General William Tecumseh Sherman “Statesmen are the most directly responsible for the continuation of a language of violence. They should be the first to speak the language of peace.” …The Wreck of Europe, Nitti… 1922. Italy. Humans daily face thousands of ways of dying from accidents and a myriad of diseases waiting to take our lives, but this appears not to be sufficient danger for us to face. Instead we deliberately increase our own peril and survival by skilfully, often ingeniously and effectively increasing the levels of killings by wars. What an incredible waste of energy, time and resources. Wars need to end as there are no victories, and as Benjamin Franklin noted “there was never a good war or a bad peace” This in an excerpt from an article published by the exclusive “Diplomat Magazine” in the Hague, Holland.

By Sue Cross
“No. Why can’t we come too?” Nina looked up at her mother with large, soulful eyes and Kristin wondered how she could have contemplated leaving her children behind. The familiar guilt hit her and she decided not to go to Spain after all. How could she be so selfish? “Well, it depends. It will cost a lot for us all to fly to Spain. You know that money is short these days.” “You always say that. You said that I could have guitar lessons and Ricki karate when we got back from Australia, and now we can’t afford it,” Nina sulked. “Yes, and our TV isn’t working properly anymore and you said we’ve got to wait and save for another one. Oh, please, Mum. Can we go to Spain? We all went there for Celine and Samantha’s weddings,” Ricki pleaded. “It can wait – I’m sorry. I won’t go. What do you think Harry?” Kristin glanced up at her husband, who was looking thoughtful. “I don’t know. It would be good if we could all go but it depends how much the fares cost and then we’ll have to find a hotel. There’s no way that Celine and Nick can put us all up if they have guests. However, my father called today. I was going to wait and tell you later. He won some money on the Premium Bonds and wants us to have a hundred pounds. It must be providence.” Harry winked. “Darling, this is fantastic news! How could you keep it to yourself? Celine said in her letter that a lady in the village has a bed and

breakfast place. Shall I write to her and find out how much it costs?” Kristin could not help but smile at the look of excitement on her children’s faces. “It wouldn’t do any harm to find out, I suppose. In for a penny in for a peseta,” Harry smiled, and everyone laughed. “No promises now, you two. We’ll have to see.” Kristin tried to look stern. “Yeah, Spain here we come!” Ricki ignored his mother’s admonition. Kristin wrote to Celine that evening and posted the letter the following lunchtime on her way to the travel agents. It had started to rain and a chill wind was blowing from the north. Yes, some time in the Spanish sun was just what they all needed. MAKING SCENTS by Sue Cross is available as a paperback or ebook on Amazon. KEY FEATURE “Swords in the Mirror” Firstly we would like to say “Happy New Year 2015”! We have recently released another new track and video called “Sword’s in the Mirror”, which is unconditionally divergent to our recent oeuvre. The song, composed and sung by Mario Alaimo of Insatiable Gravy, was inspired by an old photo (pictured above ) taken in Bradshawgate, Bolton, Lancs - wondering what the elderly lady in the 1890’s would say and think when she had never seen a camera before, and a photographer took her picture!
By Scissor Productions Condensing the video to plaudit the photographer’s picture, Genavieve filmed footage in several fields of everyday life of that era, adding several FX to give it the element of an ancient, old moving-picture touch with scratches and sepia colouring. You can find the video on Facebook Insatiable Gravy https://www.facebook.com/insatiablegravy or on YouTube http://youtu.be/P1Qz3dLa8HM. Look out for another New Release at the end of February!!!

KEY ASTROLOGY So what exactly is an Astrological Birth Chart? The Birth Chart, often referred to as a Natal Chart, is a map that shows the exact location of the planets and signs in the sky at the time of our birth. It is a blueprint of our character… and character is destiny! Imagine taking a picture of the sky and freezing it in time... the position of the planets in the signs and the aspects they make to each other will describe the character, personality, habits and traits of a person born in that same moment of time! The Birth Chart is in effect ‘what we are’ however it also informs us what we may be in this lifetime; our potential self! When we look at a birth chart we see a 360 degree circle divided equally between the 12 signs of the Zodiac, with each sign allocated a corresponding house number. The signs are divided into 4 Elements: Fire (desire, action), Earth (grounded, stability), Air (mental, communication) and Water (feeling, emotion) and the 10 Planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) are all in a particular sign at the given birth time. As the planets move around in the sky they eventually make an aspect to one or more of the planets in our birth chart. These are called transits and the most powerful come from Saturn Uranus Neptune and Pluto as they can last, on and off, for one or two years. Each transit, whether challenging or easy, provides us with an opportunity to make necessary changes in our life or simply enjoy a period of ease. However it isn’t the same as fortune telling… transits are purely an indication of potential, what is actually possible and what can be achieved. As always the final outcome depends on how we manage, or react to, any situation or circumstance. I believe with some knowledge of astrology and our own birth chart, we not only have a practical tool for awareness but can see more clearly the best way to deal with situations as they arise. We can’t avoid the hard and challenging aspects that some transits produce but we can learn, through astrology, how best to steer our course around them. For example, when transiting Saturn makes a challenging aspect to the Sun in our birth chart we need to exercise immense patience and not give in to feelings of self-doubt. Slow moving Saturn can feel like an immovable object blocking the way of our progress, however we can accomplish more by accepting the reality of a situation and biding our time until the way forward is clear... that is, when the transit has passed!

Once we grasp the basic meanings of planets, signs and houses we are well on the way to discovering more about ourselves and what makes us tick! Each one of us is so complicated it’s almost like having many different people inside… sometimes we want company other times we prefer solitude, we can appear full of fun or seem serious or withdrawn depending on another’s perception. The most basic lesson here is that we cannot be all things to all people, only to ourselves! And there ends a very brief outline of what astrology is in today’s world. It’s an ancient art that goes back many thousands of years. It would be difficult to say exactly when and where astrology started though many believe it came from the Sumerians around 3,000 BCE. Whatever the origins, it is as thriving today as ever with more and more people wanting to gain an insight into the fascinating corridors of astrology... I hope you will be one of them! If this article whets your appetite to learn more, why not join one of the Astrology for Beginners Workshops. The following testimonials are from students who attended a recent workshop: ‘Janet’s Astrology workshop really ignited my interest on a subject which is both fascinating and eye opening. I will most certainly be signing up for stage two of the course. Most of us have skirted around the subject of astrology but it is really worth investigating further and there is much to benefit from it.’ Anita Muira ‘I loved the starter astrology course with Janet. She explained it all in an easy to understand way so that I went home having a good understanding of my birth chart. The hand-outs provided are fantastic tools for reference at any future time for me. Thank you so much. I look forward to the next course.’ Christine Heckel ‘Very interesting and easy to learn. I would love to do more follow up classes and more study... Excellent’ Veronica Ueland ‘Very interesting workshop which made it easy for me to see more of myself. KEY FEATURE The Rainbows & Girl Guides One in five women brought up in the UK was once a Brownie and remembers with fondness their badges and achievements. Updated and constantly relevant to today’s girls, the organisation continues to thrive. There are currently units in Fuengirola and Coin which follow the British Guiding model and are supported and insured from the UK. These allow girls a space where they can be themselves and build brilliant friendships, gaining life skills along the way. But these British speaking groups are covering only a tiny percentage of the youth population on the Costa del Sol. So District Commissioner, Lynne Armitage, who has worked with the Guides for nearly 20 years, has been hatching a plan. Girls and young women aged 11+ will soon be able to take part in a host of adventurous activities with the opening of a new Guide group in the Cabopino area. Members can look forward to trying their hand at exciting challenges such as outdoor and indoor activities, badge work, team building, crafting and even party planning! “Guiding has to compete against a lot of children’s clubs and activities in this vast area and so I thought we would make it

By Lynne Armitage a little more accessible. The meeting will be on a Saturday in an area between Marbella and Mijas which most girls can get to. It would be just once a month too, so this takes pressure off the parents, who can safely leave the girls all afternoon.” “A meeting of around four hours will give the adult leaders a chance to really get to know the girls and help them individually. It will allow girls from different schools and areas to mix and make new friends. We are also hoping to arrange camping, BBQ evenings and trips depending on what the girls choose to do. Parents know that guiding gives the girls confidence and raises their aspirations; a chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good. The girls just think they are having fun!” Lynne is also looking for adult volunteers to help out in this new group or any other of the existing units which currently meet on a Friday in Fuengirola. She would love to hear from anyone looking to work with the younger group of 5-7 year olds who are known as Rainbows. Full training and support will be offered and experience not necessary. To find out more about volunteering or if your daughter would like to join the new unit, please contact Lynne on 667 433 581.

KEY SPORTS & MUSIC Snooker: Murphy’s Masters Form suggested Ronnie O Sullivan and Judd Trump had strong chances but Stuart Bingham has yet to win a match at the Masters going down 3-6 to Marco Fu and Mark Selby, after being 1-5 down to Shaun Murphy battled back to 5-5 only to lose the decider. Judd Trump went 2 frames up on Stephen Maguire and should have gone 3 but Maguire pulled back and won the next 4 frames. A fluent Trump century clearance made it 3-4 but Maguire eventually ran out a 6-4 winner. On Stephen Hendry’s birthday Ronnie O Sullivan fluked the final yellow in a century break to equal Hendry’s record of 775 centuries. He went 5-1 up on Ricky Walden before Walden reeled off 3 frames, one of them with a snooker and free ball, another with a 73 break. century 776 and a new record in a 6-1 win. In the quarter finals, Neil Robertson played granite matchplay snooker, easily disposing of Ali Carter 6-1 although Carter missed a couple of easy pots in frame winning situations. The dose was repeated, surprisingly on Ronnie O Sullivan (6-1) to move Robertson into the final. However, the closest the final got between Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson was when Robertson was 2-5 down. Murphy took the next frame before the midsession interval then the next four to close the match out 10-2 against an out-ofsorts Robertson. Murphy the Magician became a ‘triple crown’ winner - 2005 World Championship, 2008 UK Championship, 2015 Masters.

KEY PETS Taking Care of your Dog during Winter Welcome to 2015! For all of us who live here, we have now moved into winter and as in previous years, I am starting to see the same old problems with the dogs I groom – impacted anal glands, very dirty bums, matted coats, paw and ear infections. “Why”? you ask. Because during the colder months, many people avoid their groomers for fear of having their dog’s fur shaved too short and their dogs being too cold when in fact it can become more important that your dog visits the groomer during this time to avoid problems. Many groomers like myself offer so much more than just giving haircuts; we control problem areas dealt with above, clean and pluck away hair in ears, clean anal glands, clean and trim fur between the pads and trim toe nails etc., all a very important part of keeping your dog in good health. We also manage a longer coat to prevent it from matting. A trim is often all that is needed or I can offer a “Teddy Bear Cut” – a much longer cut using blades that cut length but not thickness or undercoat – but this option is only available to dogs that do not have matted fur. I am excited to announce that I will soon be offering care packages which will include reduced prices for keeping regular appointments and also special packages for problem areas such as dogs suffering from skin and coat conditions to packages designed to retrain nervous dogs to accept the grooming process without the need for muzzles or any type of restraints. I am also looking into offering private grooming

packages in your own home where I will train owners how to groom their dogs, clean ears, brush teeth, clean problem areas or general day to day care of your dog, sourcing products for each individual dog such as brushes, combs and grooming products. As a qualified dietician, I would also like to offer diet and detox plans for dogs suffering from chronic health issues related to diet such as skin and coat problems – something I have been doing for many years for my clients’ dogs with some amazing results – but more about this in the next issue of Key to Mijas Costa. The Dog You Need – “Phoenix” Finally I would like to dedicate a small part of my article each issue to rescue dogs and the people who give up their lives to help dogs in need here on the coast. In this issue I would like to tell you about Peter Singh and his wife, Jean Magill, who are known as “The Dog You Need” charity and to Phoenix, a dog who was beaten to within an inch of his life then buried alive. You can follow Phoenix’ story on www. thedogyouneed.com or find Peter Singh on Facebook. “The Dog You Need” is a registered charity (registration number 1157175) which offers the most severe cases of abused animals rehabilitation and a second chance of life. Please visit the website or Facebook and show your support by making a donation via Paypal. Photos above are of Phoenix and Peter Singh.

KEY FEATURE Overseas Voter Registration for UK Expats “Don’t miss out, you may be able to vote in the UK General Election” says Electoral Commission. During the first week of February the UK Electoral Commission launched a dedicated overseas voter registration campaign. The campaign aims to encourage British citizens living overseas to register to vote ahead of the UK Parliamentary General Election, due to take place on Thursday 7 May 2015. To mark the start of the campaign, the elections watchdog hosted an Overseas Voter Registration Day on Thursday 5 February 2015 in a bid to boost the numbers of UK residents overseas on the UK’s electoral registers. This is the first UK General Election where people can register to vote online. The Electoral Commission hopes that the new online process will encourage more UK nationals living overseas to register to take part in elections from overseas. Estimates show that there may be as many as 5.5 million UK nationals living overseas, but there are fewer than 20,000 currently on the electoral registers. Alex Robertson, Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission said: “A lot of people aren’t aware that it’s possible to register as an overseas voter for the General Election. We need to challenge the misconception that once you’ve moved overseas you can’t take part. Many people can and now it’s easier than ever to take the first step by registering online.” “That’s why we are urging UK nationals who are now living abroad to take five minutes to visit https://www.gov.uk/ register-to-vote and make sure they will be able to have their say at the General Election in May.” The Cabinet Office and Foreign and Commonwealth Office are supporting the Electoral Commission’s campaign to raise awareness of voter registration among British residents overseas in the run up to the general election. KEY FEATURE The Reason you need to have Data Backups and a decent Antivirus in 2015 CryptoWall is a sophisticated ransomware programme that encrypts the victims’ files with a strong cryptographic algorithm. This has a countdown that doubles the amount to be paid after 1 week. CryptoWall ransomware is back with a new version after two months of silence. The actual infection can be dealt with but the files are lost and worryingly it has the antivirus companies stumped. This is a serious threat and prevention is the only way to avoid it.

KEY FEATURE #Hashtag Basics From fionacatchpowle.com find me on Facebook or Twitter @fionacatchpowle The hashtag is now one of the most powerful social media tools around. Whilst # are used on a variety of social media platforms, they were made famous by Twitter. Using a hashtag instantly links to a group of other posts on the same topic and updates users on that topic in real time. The words become a ‘hyperlink’ and generally turn blue. In basic terms it is ‘clickable’ and ‘searchable’. Words can be hash-tagged in general text in a blog, but will not be ‘clickable’ The # represents an important social media strategy, especially for small businesses. The right tag can help drive brand recognition, boost advertising and increase customer loyalty. A # is used in front of a suitable keyword or phrase such as #KeyToMijasCosta, #AskCyberGran, #WhenUsingAPhraseUseCapitalLettersToIdentifyEachWord at the beginning, middle or end of the sentence. The # identifies a category or subject matter which can now be found in a search along with other posts that include the same
By Fiona Catchpowle hashtag and therefore subject matter. The official Twitter recommendation is no more than 2 # in one tweet. When a particular hashtag is used often enough it becomes known as trending – such as #ChatSpain, made famous by Lisa Sadleir of Family Life in Spain and Ali Meehan from Costa Women. The symbol is so well recognised these days, you can now use it within off line media, like a magazine advert, to encourage brand recognition and drive your audience towards engaging with you on social media. You may think that hashtags are only for the youngsters, and whilst pop stars and online gaming does feature heavily, last month the number 8 most used hashtag was #CharlieHebdo, which consequently aided in the transmission of the news around the world of the deeply saddening incident that took place in Paris in January. KEY FINANCE Study Centre fined 5,000 Euros for breach of Personal Data Protection
By Victoria Anzola, Iberdata 21 S.L.
The Spanish Data Protection Agency emphasizes again that in order for a company to comply with the law on data protection, it is FUNDAMENTAL that : THE COMPANY OR ENTITY IMPLEMENTS EFFECTIVE AND PROPER PROCEDURES FOR PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA IN THE COMPANY, and properly trains its WORKERS in the awareness of their responsibilities in the protection of personal data. The following were the facts that end in a penalty for a Study Centre: • On 20 April 2009 the complainant requested the cancellation of their personal data at a study centre. • The Study Centre confirmed to him the total deletion of his personal data on 22 April 2009. • On 23 November 2009 (7 months later) the complainant received an SMS on his mobile and two days later an e-mail advertising the centre. • He reminded them of his request for cancellation and they apologized, blaming a technical glitch. • The complainant received an envelope with unwanted and unsolicited advertising. The postmark was dated 18.10.2012. • He received a further advertisement by email back that he had not had on July 24, 2013. The Study Centre acknowledged the facts of the complaint, admitting the possibility of human error and requesting appropriate mitigations. With the proven facts the Director of the AEGD RESOLVED: IMPOSE on the entity, for a violation of Article 6 of the LOPD (not seeking consent), classified as serious in Article 44.3 b) of this Act, a fine of 5,000 Euros in accordance with the provisions of Article 45 of that Act.
THEIR DETAILS FROM OUR FILES, WE MUST DO SO. We must make it free and easy to unsubscribe at any time. Data Protection Fine of 36,000 Euros for a Company that listed four Guarantors as Defaulters In a recent case, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEGD) fined a Coruña leasing company 36,000 Euros for including four guarantors of a finance lease debt in publically-accessible debtors’ files without having informed the four in advance of a debt of 5,320 Euros. The Data Protection law requires that prior order for payment to the debtor must be made prior to registering the outstanding debt in creditworthiness files such as Asnef and Experian-Badexcug, in which people and companies who have defaulted on their payment obligations are listed (i.e. creditworthiness files). The victims had filed complaints with the Data Protection Agency that the leasing company had not been in touch with them to demand the amount owed. The leasing firm told the AEGD that the contract with the company mentioned that, in the case of a non-payment of a debt, the guarantors could be registered in a file of defaulters, but did not provide evidence that showed they had reported this action to those affected before so doing. In this case, the Agency believes that the leasing company automatically transferred the data of the guarantors to the creditworthiness files, thereby allowing third party access to this information without previously having notified the four affected guarantors.
It is evident that the company files containing personal data were not very organised, nor had they properly trained their employees on proper procedures.
Although the offending financial leasing company could have been fined up to 600,000 Euros, the AEGD imposed a penalty of only 36,000 Euros, taking into account that they had renegotiated the debt with the guarantors, as well as removing the injured parties from the debtor files before being ordered to do so by the AEGD.
We can contact customers, and even send them advertising emails if we have previously received their consent to do so, but IF THEY HAVE REQUESTED THAT WE REMOVE

KEY FINANCE The Poor Old Euro has taken a Hammering WOW - what uncertainty has prevailed during the last month and the poor old euro has taken a hammering against the dollar and the pound. In one week in January the euro lost over 4.5 cents to the pound - really good news if you are transferring your pounds into euros but when you take your money back home, it has now become a little more expensive. The weakness came primarily because The Swiss Central Bank decided to remove the cap on the franc to the euro and caught markets by surprise with their decision. In fact the other issue is for Swiss business, as exports have now become dearer. By the time you read this, two other questions knocking around the Eurozone will be answered: who won the Greek election and what decision was made to support the Greek debt and of course the big one, did the European Central Bank undertake a quantitative easing programme? It’s hard to believe that it was nearly 2.5 years ago that Mr Draghi said the European Central Bank would do whatever it takes to safeguard the future of the euro so what did happen and how much!! Better news from within the Eurozone came from Germany (who are not in total agreement on QE) when the ZEW survey of economic sentiment rose for the third month running.

In the UK we have the start of the lead-in to the election and of course waiting in March to hear what Mr Osborne will do in the Budget and what help will he provide to the oil industry who are suffering from the current low price of oil. The emphasis is on the service and the quality of the locallysourced produce brought to life with a simple passion by an excellent chef. “The English Garden Restaurant s now 10 months old and we want to thank all our clients who have made us the success we are. They love our high quality and our menus that change with the seasons. They have not only told their friends, but have brought them to “their favorite international restaurant” in spite of its name. Scandinavians who love the “salmon” dishes created by our Chef, Spanish clients who rate our “suckling pig” equal to any served in Segovia. Europeans who appreciate the freshness and taste of our fish dishes, Americans who prefer our “ribs” to any they have had back home... Irish praising our “beef” dishes highly and, God bless them, our British clients who are insisting we change our name, as the quality and variety of our menu has nothing to do with fish and chips - Our late winter menu is now on our website: www.theenglishgardenrestaurant.net. We are concentrating on what we do best, that is creating a dining experience that you will want to repeat time and again. We have an Early Bird Menu with a main course and starter for 17 Euros for orders taken between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm. We open on Sundays at 1.30 pm with a special Sunday Lunch Menu of 2 courses for 18.50 Euros and we are open every evening from 6.00pm for our A La Carte Menu”.
Editor’s Note: We were delighted to visit The English Garden on the night the late winter menu became available. The English Garden is on the Avda de España, Calahonda – a little gem of a find. Freshly prepared pasta, home-

made bread and desserts, everything is cooked from fresh to order so perfect for an evening out and because cooking from fresh takes time, you are never rushed. A local restaurant with regular clientele in the middle of winter! The English Garden is Mijas Costa’s newest, fine-dining restaurant. The emphasis is on the service and the quality of the locally-sourced produce brought to life with a simple passion by an excellent chef. Here are some tried and tested dishes from the new menu which we thoroughly enjoyed. I know exactly why the Langoustines in Tempura, Crisp Sesame Salad and Sweet Soy Dip are a perennial favourite with the diners as it is delicious. Highly recommended for main course is the Rack of Lamb, Niçoise Potato, Mixed Beans and Tomato and Mint Salsa and the Confited Leg of Duck. There is also a good choice for vegetarians and fish dishes on the menu. We rounded off the meal with desserts to die for – Toffee Apple & Pecan Nut Pudding, Orange Butterscotch & Vanilla Ice Cream and Apricot & Raisin Brioche, Vanilla Custard & Greek Yoghurt Ice Cream. There is a good selection on the wine menu, including some organic wines and some wines sold by the glass. You can see photos of some of the dishes in the header pages of the Restaurant Guide. Thank you The English Garden for a very enjoyable evening. All menus can be found on their website -www. theenglishgardenrestaurant.net.

POSITIVELY PINK & POSITIVELY BLUE
During the course of 2015 Positively Pink & Positively Blue, the local breast cancer and prostate cancer screening charity have set themselves the challenge of offering 600 free breast screenings and 400 free Prostate blood tests/testicular cancer screenings. The 2015 campaign has begun and appointments are available now by calling 952 835 776. For them to continue to be able to offer these FREE services they need your suppor t, as they need to raise the necessary funds to pay for the mammograms, ultrasounds and PSA blood tests. As a charity they are very proud of the fact that ALL of the monies they raise are used solely for the purpose of funding the professionals to carry out the radiography and blood analysis; all of the charities’ costs are absorbed by the El Oceano Hotel & Spa and Clinica Medicare in La Cala de Mijas.
