CROSS-CULTURAL DANCE COLLABORATION Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Malpaso Dance Company join forces on the Auditorium Theatre stage March 2-3 Two acclaimed contemporary dance companies join forces for the first time, and it figures to be a sight to behold. One (Hubbard Street Dance) is known for creating an influential contemporary dance scene in America, while the other (Malpaso) is busy innovating Cuban dance in Havana. In these groundbreaking two days of cross-cultural collaboration, Malpaso will be performing a world-premiere piece by Chicago’s own Robyn Mineko Williams, while Hubbard Street is flipping the script and performing the world premiere of a work by
Malpaso’s artistic director, Osnel Delgado. The Hubbard Street team will also be reprising Mineko’s 2017 work Cloudline, and Delgado, along with a Hubbard Street dancer, will be performing his acclaimed duet piece Ocaso from 2013. This team effort is part of the “Made in Chicago” 312 Dance Series. Performances are Saturday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $29. The Auditorium Theatre is located at 50 E. Ida B. Wells Dr. 312-341-2300. AuditoriumTheatre.org

The best of Mexico TOPOLOBAMPO
When discussing Mexican restaurants in Chicago, we’d be remiss not to discuss the impact of celebrity chef Rick Bayless, who has a passion for the regional specialties south of the border. His award-winning Frontera Grill and Topolobampo (both at 445 N. Clark) offer casual Mexican dining at its most colorful and creative, with a rotating menu consisting of fresh, organic ingredients. “There’s nothing even remotely similar to Frontera … anywhere else in the world,” according to the New York Times. Don’t forget the wood-oven tortas and fresh hot chocolate at his Xoco next door (449 N. Clark). And he’s recently added the Baja seafood-focused Leña Brava (900 W. Randolph) and Oaxacan-style taqueria and brewery Cruz Blanca (904 W. Randolph), along with Bar Sótano, a speakeasy-type cocktail bar below Frontera Grill. RickBayless.com/restaurants
