A BRONX TALE The Broadway musical version of the hit play and movie from Chazz Palminteri plays Chicago’s James Nederlander Theatre through March 24 Based on the critically acclaimed play that inspired the classic film, this Broadway hit musical visits Chicago for just two weeks and will transport you straight to the front stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s. The story, from Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, is about an impressionable but streetwise boy who finds himself caught between the father he loves and the local mob boss he’d love to be. Loaded with energetic dance numbers and original doo-wop songs from the likes of Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast), A Bronx Tale is

an unforgettable coming-of-age tale of family and loyalty. Directed by Academy Award winner Robert De Niro and Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, this sharp-witted musical is “wonderful and refreshing … the kind of tale that makes you laugh and cry,” according to the New York Times and a “combination of Jersey Boys and West Side Story,” according to AM New York. A Bronx Tale plays at the James M. Nederlander Theatre (formerly the Oriental Theatre) through March 24. 24 W. Randolph St. 312-977-1700. BroadwayInChicago.com

Ideal for a nearby dinner before or after the show, the stylish Atwood offers bold and inventive American cuisine, alluring libations and a late-evening happy hour. 1 W. Washington. 312-368-1900. AtwoodRestaurant.com Get the app keychicago

The best of Mexico TOPOLOBAMPO

When discussing Mexican restaurants in Chicago, we’d be remiss not to discuss the impact of celebrity chef Rick Bayless, who has a passion for the regional specialties south of the border. His award-winning Frontera Grill and Topolobampo (both at 445 N. Clark) offer casual Mexican dining at its most colorful and creative, with a rotating menu consisting of fresh, organic ingredients. “There’s nothing even remotely similar to Frontera … anywhere else in the world,” according to the New York Times. Don’t forget the wood-oven tortas and fresh hot chocolate at his Xoco next door (449 N. Clark). And he’s recently added the Baja seafood-focused Leña Brava (900 W. Randolph) and Oaxacan-style taqueria and brewery Cruz Blanca (904 W. Randolph), along with Bar Sótano, a speakeasy-type cocktail bar below Frontera Grill. RickBayless.com/restaurants
