Why do you think Andrew’s stomach hurt? What sickness did Andrew’s mother think he had? Does anyone know what that is? Why do you think Andrew didn’t care very much that he forgot to clean up his mess? How many of you have ever had that medicine that tastes like peppermint? Why do you think Andrew does not want to go back to school in the end?
Lesson Procedure • •
“Today we are going to read and talk about chapter 4 of our book, Freckle Juice.” Recap what has happened in the story so far “Can anybody tell me what has happened so far in the story?”

Ask children to make predictions about what they think will happen next “What do you think will happen next in the story?”
•
Have children read chapter 4 to themselves and go around and listen to them read each a little bit
•
As children finish reading give index card/post‐it and have them write down words they may not have understood or what they think will happen next
•
Once everyone is finished reading, discuss the chapter using the comprehension questions and higher‐level thinking questions Talk about what you think will happen next to relate it to real‐life
