Practicum THREE Report CREMF Marrakech English Department Group 2 Teacher Trainee : Khalid Touile Host Schools : Almaghreb Alarabi high school, Lmhamid Hassan 2 High school, Gueliz Duration : two weeks (from 8th to 20th December) Colleagues: Elhoucein Elasri, Ismail Ouani, Lamya Toubati and Hind Elamrani A wrong start was the highlight of the first week as my colleagues and I were not expected nor accepted at Almaghrib Alarabi High school. The administration and the mentor (Bouchra) expressed their unwlillingness to host trainee teachers as long as the ex-mentors haven’t reached an agreement with ministry regarding their situation. However, after calling the EL depertment coordinator, we went to Hassan 2 High school where ,though unofficially, teachers of English hosted us in their classrooms. As more groups kept coming seeking professional refugee at H2 H.School, we split groups over teachers. Our group had the chance to do some observation session during the first week with two classes (one common core + one 2 nd BAC) which eventually the host teacher, Mrs. Allaoui chose for us. In this regard, she nicely insisted that we observe and teach mainly these two classes since the whole matter is not officially set. Mrs. Allaoui was always there to help, share, and coach. We truly appreciated her work ethics and high spiritedness. On Saturday December the 13th right after the last class observation was over, my colleagues and I had a meeting where decided who to teach what the following week. Our task distribution was steered by these principles: Coordinated planning Gender equity in session/class assigning Opportunity to teach more than one level per each trainee Opportunity to teach more than one language area per each trainee Sharing materials Spacing out the sessions assigned to each trainee Inhibiting learners’ boredom With those considerations in mind, we came up with the action plan below: Session + date Trainee teacher (s) Class Teaching area 15/12/2014-2 to 3.pm Lamia Toubati Common core Intro to unit + Reading + language focus 15/12/2014-3 to 4p.m Hind Amrani + Elhousine lasri Common core Listening + Functions 16/12/2014 2 to 3p.m Touile khalid 2nd BAC Reading Comprehension Strategies. 17/12/2014 3 to 4p.m Hind Amrani + ismail aouani 2nd BAC Grammar : Past Perfect 20/12/2014 10 to 11 Khalid Touile+Ismail Aaouani Common Core Speaking + language focus (uncountables) 20/12/2014 11 to 12 Lamia toubati+lhousine lasri 2nd BAC Grammar review P.Perfect+ P.P continuous The plan went successfully as scheduled. While performing or discussing, the trainee teachers demonstrated: Well-preparedness Active listening Constructive criticism Satisfaction especially the ones experiencing their first teaching practice. Team Spirit
On the other hand, areas to improve for some of us are: Self-confidence Improvisation Seizing unexpected events for learning purposes Time-setting. On the whole, the practicum objective, which is to teach half a session in coordination with another trainee teacher, was fulfilled for all of us. Yet, it was met under unofficial terms in that: The host teacher welcomed us as colleagues not as CRMEF trainee teachers. The host teacher didn’t want to sign any official paperwork (report, feedback…) The host school administration warned host teachers and declared them as the ONLY ones to bear responsibility for the consequences.
