VISION ICS is a not-for-profit organization for and by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Vietnam working to empower LGBT communities to protect their human rights. ICS envisions Vietnam as a nation where sexual minorities are treated equally and where everyone can live as who they are and are able to contribute their best to the development of society.
ACTIVITIES LGBT Visibility and Pride
› Building self-esteem and solidarity among LGBT individuals and groups. › Increasing public awareness and understanding about LGBT issues and sexual diversity. › Engaging LGBT people, their families and allies in the fight against injustice faced by LGBT people at home, at school and in the workplace.
LGBT Health and Well-being › Providing counseling, information and other essential services to LGBT people and their loved ones to improve their quality of life. › Mobilizing social support for LGBT rights to bring positive changes to laws and policies concerning LGBT people and their daily lives.
ACHIEVEMENTS › Inspiring and earning the trust of LGBT communities. We facilitate community capacity building for LGBT people to better pursue equal rights. We expand safe spaces and encourage creativity and freedom of expression via our public events across the country, such as exhibitions, flashmobs, and VietPride. Inspired by ICS, LGBT communities in different parts of Vietnam have come together to form their groups and stand up for themselves. › Involving the mass media, PFLAG and allies. We are dedicated to building a social movement where members of a wider community can voice their opinions and have diverse dialogues. ICS created a network of journalists and helped to found a chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of LGBT) in Vietnam to ensure a positive media coverage of LGBT issues and that the rights and needs of LGBT people and their loved ones are addressed. › Improving the profile of LGBT issues in Vietnam. In society, the debate has shifted from questions of “Do LGBT people exist in Vietnam?” and “Are they normal?” to “How to protect their rights?” Our training workshops, talk shows and publications about sexual diversity help dispel myths and misconceptions about LGBT issues in the society overall, particularly among youth and government agencies.
Seeing LGBT rights as human rights ICS uses a rights-based approach to pursue LGBT equality.
Serving the Community ICS facilitates community driven development.
Supporting Diversity ICS believes you have the right to be you.
