Randy Osae Bediako

THINGS WILL WORK OUT: KEEP THE FAITH

S

ometimes life can really knock you down to the point where you are left distraught. Trusting God during hard times can be a real challenge because you often wonder why God allowed the bad situation to happen. It is important to remember that God is in control of the bad and good things that we go through. Whenever you experience a bad situation it is best not to dwell on the negative side of things but, rather try to focus your attention on looking into God’s word and figuring out what it is He has to say about your situation. Remember God’s word which states “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5) The atrocities of violence , inequality and economic hardship around the world, and in my own backyard, have made faith even harder. The corporate rich seem to increasingly win, while the poor are pushed into decisions that are far from the best for them, for our planet and for future generations. This sometimes lead us to feel as though there could not possibly be any greater being that cares about the well-being of the poor. But No matter what occurs, no matter how topsy-turvy the world becomes, you can always have the sustaining power of faith. That will never change. The perfect love of your Father in Heaven will never change. His gospel plan gives life meaning and can assure your happiness. His plan is not only to prove yourself here on earth but also that you may receive the growth that comes from correct decisions prompted by faith, enabled by your obedience. “Open up you gates. Open wide, you aged doors and the glorious King will come in.” (Psalm 24:7). To keep your faith strong we must constantly make it a habbit to pray, Once we establish a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, we are His and should not feel afraid to talk to Him. Read your bible. The bible is the word of God and by reading it; you are getting valuable information regarding what God has to say about your life and how He feels about you. Don’t forget to stand on the promises that God had made to you in his word. Jesus promised to never leave nor forsake you. By holding onto the word of God and trusting in it, you can rest assured that you are in good hands despite what is going on around you. Don’t allow the distraction from the world to lead you in the wrong direction. Remember to Stay focused and remember that God is on your side regardless of the situation and that He will pull you through it. Faith is very important to have because without it, we can’t please God. Don’t fall into the trap of questioning whether God still cares. If you call on God, He will answer you as long as you’re His child. Enjoy this faith filled Eleventh Edition and Watch God move in your life like never before. You are blessed indeed.

Kenneth Erwin Hagin

T

he American Pentecostal Preacher Kenneth Erwin Hagin is considered by many to be (after E.W. Kenyon) the father or “granddadday” of the “Word of Faith” and “Positive Confession” movements which he puts in his own words as simply, “Say it, Do it, Receive it, and Tell it.” He is credited to be the father of what is termed today as the Prosperity Gospel. History portrays him as part of the Voice of Healing Revival in the U.S. in the 40s and 50s together with other influential preachers like Oral Roberts, Gordon Lindsay and T. L. Osborn. But Papa Hagin had very little beginnings in ministry. The celebrated Charismatic Bible Teacher started a grass-roots movement in Oklahoma that produced a Bible College and a crop of famous preachers including

Kenneth Copeland, Frederick Price, Jerry Savelle, Charles Capps, Jesse DuPlantis, Creflo Dollar and dozens of others. Many of his followers often refer to him affectionately as “Dad Hagin”, “Pappa Hagin” and more commonly “Brother Hagin”. Kenneth E. Hagin was born on August 20, 1917 in McKinney, Texas, the son of Lillie Viola Drake Hagin and Jess Hagin. He was married to Oretha Rooker. They had two children, a son named Kenneth Wayne Hagin, who is presently the pastor of Rhema Bible Church and President of Kenneth Hagin Ministries, and a daughter named Patricia Harrison. As a “Word-of-Faith” preacher, his most quoted scripture has always been Mark 11:22-24 Bible: KHARIS

“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Since its inception in 1963, his organization grew to include numerous media outreaches and ministries which include:

“RHEMA Praise” – a weekly television program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network

According to Hagin’s testimony, he was sickly as a child, suffering from a deformed heart and what was believed to be an incurable blood disease. He related that he was not expected to live and became bedfast at age 15. In April 1933 during a dramatic conversion experience, he reported dying three times in 10 minutes, each time seeing the horrors of hell and then returning to life. He shares he was raised from his deathbed on August 8, 1934 by “the revelation of faith in God’s Word”. Two years later he preached his first sermon as the pastor of a small community church in Roland, Texas, 9 miles (14 km) from McKinney. During the next twelve years he pastored five Assemblies of God churches in Texas: in the cities of Tom Bean, Farmersville (twice), Talco, Greggton, Texas, and Van.

“Faith Seminar of the Air” – a radio program heard on many stations nationwide and on the Internet

“The Word of Faith” – a free monthly magazine with roughly 600,000 subscribers crusades conducted throughout the nation

RHEMA Correspondence Bible School

the RHEMA Prayer and Healing Center, located on the Rhema campus in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

Establishing a faith-based organization Papa Hagin began an itinerant ministry as a Bible teacher and evangelist in 1949. He was at this time also given full admission to the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International which had been established in 1951. In 1963, Kenneth E. Hagin Evangelistic Association was incorporated, and the offices of the ministry moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1966. That same year, he taught for the first time on radio — on KSKY in Dallas. In 1967, he began a regular radio broadcast that continues today as Faith Seminar of the Air. Teaching by his son, Rev. Kenneth Wayne Hagin, is also heard on the program. 12 KHARIS

Faith Library Publications – with 65 million book copies in circulation

Kenneth Hagin is a prolific writer with several books to his credit. Some of his popular books include: A better Covenant, Biblical Keys to Financial Prosperity, Baptism in the Holy Spirit, A fresh anointing, A commonsense guide to fasting, Biblical study on Healing, Faith, Holy Spirit just to name a few. Hagin founded Rhema Bible Training Center (RBTC) in 1974. RBTC is an educational accreditation Bible institute located on 110 acres (0.45 km2) in Broken Arrow, a suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma (USA). The curriculum is taught from a Charismatic/Pentecostal heritage. There are seven ministry concentrations specializing in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Evangelism, Pastoral Care, Missions, Biblical Studies, and Supportive Ministry. RBTC has also established training centers in Austria, Brazil,

Colombia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, the South Pacific, Thailand, Nigeria, Zambia, and Egypt. The Infamous Tulsa Meeting and “The Midas Touch” Publication Hagin taught that God was not glorified by poverty and that preachers do not have to be poor. But before he died in 2003 and left his Rhema Bible Training Center in the hands of his son, Kenneth Hagin Jr., he summoned many of his colleagues to Tulsa to rebuke them for distorting his message. He was not happy that some of his followers were manipulating the Bible to support what he viewed as greed and selfish indulgence. Those who were close to Papa Hagin say he was passionate about correcting these abuses before he died. In fact, he wrote a brutally honest book to address his concerns. The Midas Touch was published in 2000, a year after the infamous Tulsa meeting. Unfortunately, Many Word-Faith ministers ignored the book. But in light of the recent controversy over prosperity doctrines, it might be a good idea to dust it off and read it again. Here are a few of the points Hagin made in The Midas Touch: 1. Financial prosperity is not a sign of God’s blessing. Hagin wrote: “If wealth alone were a sign of spirituality, then drug traffickers and crime bosses would be spiritual giants. Material wealth can be connected to the blessings of God or it can be totally disconnected from the blessings of God.” 2. People should never give in order to get. Hagin was critical of those who “try to make the offering plate some kind of heavenly vending machine.” He denounced those who link giving to getting, especially those who give cars to get new cars or who give suits to get new suits. He wrote: “There is no spiritual formula to sow a Ford and reap a Mercedes.”

Impact makers And world Changers

3. It is not biblical to “name your seed” in an offering. Hagin was horrified by this practice, which was popularized in faith conferences during the 1980s. Faith preachers sometimes tell donors that when they give in an offering they should claim a specific benefit to get a blessing in return. Hagin rejected this idea and said that focusing on what you are going to receive “corrupts the very attitude of our giving nature.” 4. The “hundredfold return” is not a biblical concept. Hagin did the math and figured out that if this bizarre notion were true, “we would have Christians walking around with not billions or trillions of dollars, but quadrillions of dollars!” He rejected the popular teaching that a believer should claim a specific monetary payback rate. 5. Preachers who claim to have a “debt-breaking” anointing should not be trusted. Hagin was perplexed by ministers who promise “supernatural debt cancellation” to those who give in certain offerings. He wrote in The Midas Touch: “There is not one bit of Scripture I know about that validates such

a practice. I’m afraid it is simply a scheme to raise money for the preacher, and ultimately it can turn out to be dangerous and destructive for all involved.” Many evangelists who appear on Christian television today use this bogus claim. Usually they insist that the miraculous debt cancellation will occur only if a person “gives right now,” as if the anointing for this miracle suddenly evaporates after the prime time viewing hour. This manipulative claim is more akin to witchcraft than Christian belief. Hagin condemned other hairbrained gimmicks designed to trick audiences into emptying their wallets. He was especially incensed when a preacher told his radio listeners that he would take their prayer requests to Jesus’ empty tomb in Jerusalem and pray over them there—if donors included a special love gift. “What that radio preacher really wanted was more people to send in offerings,” Hagin wrote. Thanks to the recent resurgence in bizarre donation schemes promoted by American charismatics, the prosperity gospel is back under the nation’s microscope. It’s time to

revisit Hagin’s concerns and find a biblical balance. We must examine his concerns and straighten the crooked paths. Papa Hagin told his followers: “Overemphasizing or adding to what the Bible actually teaches invariably does more harm than good”. Honestly, if the man who pioneered the modern concept of biblical prosperity and faith blew the whistle on his own movement, it would be a great thing to take a close look at the issues he raised in the book. After Hagin’s death in September 19, 2003, his son Kenneth W. Hagin continued to run the institution. The Bible school he founded, RBTC has trained over 40,000 graduates who reside and minister in more than 100 countries all over the world. Though dead and gone, his influence cannot be downplayed. The ministry which he started continuous to bless many lives across the globe. To say that Kenneth Erwin Hagin is an embodiment of ministerial excellence and a Christian Charismatic leader extraordinaire is indeed no understatement! KHARIS

Family Life

Conflict

Resolution

In The Christian Family Dr. Mrs. Vivian Tackie-Ofosu

(Senior Lecturer, School of Family & Consumer Sciences, University of Ghana Legon)

Lambda Edition 2014

Family conflict resolution is necessary for maintaining a supportive, loving relationship that is critical for nurturing individual self-esteem and confidence and for building strong families.Unresolved family conflicts can lead to different levels of stresses with its associated health challenges. With time, unaddressed issues become ‘mountains’ that takes away the joy and comfort in Christian families. How then do we develop skills for early identification and resolution strategies to minimize tension and stress in families? Here are a few tips to help you acquire conflict resolution skills:

1. Love and respect each other in the family relationship unconditionally. Remember that love forgives all wrong, love helps us to accommodate each other’s weaknesses for long; and importantly, love is not easily provoked. If our goal in family relationship (husbandwife; parent-child; sibling relationships) is to love, support and nurture personal growth and productivity, we will be empowered to overcome offences and move on in the relationship. The gift of love is a celebration of the power of the human spirit

2. Recognize that each person’s emotion is important. Understand that family members’ emotions (happy, fear, frustrations, excitement, sadness and others) are important and individuals need each other to develop emotional intelligence. Don’t forget that disagreements about money, time and other family resources affect our emo-

tions negatively. Similarly, individual accomplishments trigger excitement, happiness and others. Our attitudes during any of these events are critical because understanding, identifying and supporting a family member appropriately can help address conflict instantly. Say, “ l ‘m proud of you”, “ You’re skillful in the use of money/time” “ I know you can make it”… A simple statement can resolve a hurting heart, a pain or offence. Respect individual differences!

3. Open communication is another way to resolve conflict. Today, many families are paying less attention to quality time and interaction and this is a threat to peaceful co-existence. Family meetings, meal-time, chore periods are great opportunities to talk about issues and address them as they emerge. You may end up making jokes or laughing over hurting issues without a mediator. To be continued...

Family Life

W

here two or three are gathered in a relationship, conflict is inevitable. It may start in a very subtle way, direct or indirect; sometimes the people involved may not be aware that simple disagreements and injustices are breeding the ground for conflict. It is therefore important that family members identify and pay attention to the little things that can pile up and eventually block family communication lines.

Marriage Life

THERE IS SOMETHING MORE THAN WHAT WE SEE

I

t is about 32 years now since we gave our life to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Throughout this period we have encountered a lot of people in the work of God. These days many who are doing the ministry are experiencing more and more frustrations and it pains us to see a person who started on an assignment for God to be disappointed in midstream. God wants us to do due diligence before we embark on anything for him. Note the saying of Jesus Christ.

1. Count the cost and see if you can finish the building before you start – this is due diligence. 2. You don’t put your hand to the plough and turn back. 3. A soldier cannot be at the battlefield and mingle in home affairs. 4. Take your cross and follow me. In all these there is clearly a part for man to play. So the “God himself will do it” attitude is not the way of God. God will do it, yes but through us for the bible says he works through us.

It is wrong for one to assume that one can just enter the race and since one is working for God things will work out. The truth is that, there are rules and ways for doing God’s work and unless we recognize them and work accordingly, He will not “do his work” as we put it. It is sad to say that people enter into marriage with the same attitude and are quick to point to their grandparents that they never had counseling but married successfully. This is a deception. It is a fact that in the days gone by there were very well laid out traditional systems through which young ladies and men were helped to enter into marriage. They were counseled through these systems. So we who know Christ should do better to avoid unnecessary pains which abound in modern marriages.

about it and this has been given by God. Don’t take things for granted. The Bible says we should go to the ant and learn. We need the wisdom of God for every endeavor including marriage. Wisdom is having the right knowledge and applying it in the right way. The ant knows between seasons and therefore plans accordingly and set out a strategy for rolling out the plans. James says if we lack wisdom we should ask God who is ready to give us liberally. If there is one thing for which we need God’s wisdom, it is marriage. If you want to get married seek proper counseling, the ‘rules’. Learn how to contract and conduct a marriage relationship. Until and unless you do that, you will learn the rules through the hard way and that will be at a very high cost to you.

Today, there is too much pain going on in many spheres of life because Marriage is an institution of God we are trying to do things our own and one who enters it should not way. But the true way is there. do so without reference to God’s pattern of marriage. Do not assume Please seek proper counseling and that once you get married things be taught the right way. will work out because you love yourselves. There is a way to go KHARIS

MONEY IN YOUR POCKET Creating Wealth God’s Way

I

t is important for every believer to realize that they have been empowered to create wealth and make wealth because it is the will of God for their lives. The misconception that not everyone can be wealthy is a creation of ignorance. There is biblical truth to the contrary” The elder unto the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John1.2 KJV). The Word of God empowers us to make wealth which means that we have been equipped to make the necessary choices that would bring us to that end. There are three empowerments in life; spiritual, relational and economic. Spiritual empowerment equips one effectively to make the definite choices that concern them. Relational empowerment equips one with the technique of relating to people very well, staff children, spouse etc. Economic empowerment is the equipping with the “know-how” of success and prosperity. Your economic or commercial empowerment is the fulcrum of this piece. It is the spiritual mandate for writing this. It is intended to , make you as commercially empowered as you are spiritually and relationally. Your commercial empowerment is your license to full restoration and your visa to a fulfilled and prosperous destination. Despite your background of a battered life your commercial empowerment is at the heart of the expectations of your creator for your life. This is the duty of this write up culled from my book “Money In Your Pocket- to make that expectation materialize in your life.

The Bible minces no words in stating why it is important for Christians to have wealth “Slothfulness casteth into deep sleep, and an idle soul shall suffer hunger:” (Proverbs 19:15-KJV). Proverbs 19:14(KJV). Says,

Wealth maketh many friends, but the poor is separated from his neighbor. The late Archbishop Benson Idahosa said that “Anointing without money brings annoyance.” Grab a copy of my new book “ Money in your pocket” and the words in it will offer the anointing for you to make wealth that will bring the joy and gladness not only to yourself but also to your family, your dependants the church and humanity. Resolve to make the biblical principles and instructions outlined in the book your lifestyle as you take the bold step to rediscover your God given destiny. Your story is about to be retold.

DESTINY EMPOWERMENT CHURCH INTERNATIONAL A refreshing ray of hope TO HUMANITY

T

he dearth of knowledge – empowering knowledge– has left the world bereft of its essence and focus. The Bible gives a vivid impression of God’s intent for the world: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17KJV Throughout biblical history, God’s salvation plan for mankind has been

24 KHARIS

rolled out in concrete manifestations of His love for His own creation, Man. The ultimate manifestation of God’s deed of love for Man was rolled out in the supreme sacrifice of Christ Jesus, the Son of the Living God. Jesus Christ Himself said emphatically in John 14:6 (KJV): I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Before His ascension to Heaven after His triumphant resurrection, Jesus Christ commissioned and empowered His disciples to make disciples of all nations and establish His Church to enforce the Kingdom of God on earth. Many have come and left the baton

of “making disciples of all nations” with a new breed of kingdom-minded servants of God. Apostle Bernard Afresa Taylor and the Destiny Empowerment Chapel International (DECI) have evolved a truly Charismatic fervour within the comity of Christian churches in Ghana, especially. Inaugurated on February 9, 2014 at a well-attended service which, attracted the cream of the clergy fraternity in Ghana and overseas, at the church’s Spintex Road chapel, the Ghana branch of the Destiny Empowerment Chapel International has already made significant impact on many lives both in the city of Accra and beyond.

The church is poised for empowering growth and impact in the Christian believer and the church at large. The prolific apostolic and prophetic gift of the leadership underscores the revivalist posture of the church’s calling and mandate. What is evident and pronounced in the character and integrity of the church is the leadership lifestyle: living Christ Jesus in deed and in word. The truth of God’s Word is the mirror of the church’s philosophy and drive. Those who are saved must come to the knowledge of the truth, for that is God’s appointed way to save sinners: if we do not know the truth, we cannot be ruled by it. The DECI vision statement is: “To empower people through the teaching of God’s Word to excel in all facets of life.” Its mission statement encapsulates the following: empowering people spiritually; developing them educationally; exposing them culturally; activating them politically; and strengthening them economically. The church’s binding philosophy, which is evident in the outward character of its leadership, especially, is rooted in the following tenets: integrity, excellence, accountability, practical Christianity and human dignity. The DECI hosts three weekly services: •Sunday Morning:Celebration Service (8:30 am –10:30 am) •Sunday Evening:Prophetic Night of Deliverance (7:00 pm – 9:00 pm) •Wednesday: Word Explosion (6:30 pm – 8:00 pm) •Friday:Grace Encounter (6:30 pm -8:30 pm) If ever you needed an active Christian house of empowerment, the Destiny Empowerment Chapel International is your destination. You will be welcomed with the warmth of Christ Jesus. Locate the DECI at the DOM GOSALA building (above Pravda Radio), 18th Junction, Spintex Road (opposite Allied Oil). For enquiries call: (233) 57-607-7950 or (233) 54-6362007. You may email the General Overseer of DECI at apostlebentaylor@yahoo.com Welcome home! Our ministry brings to LIGHT answers not taught in the worldly churches. Our sincere desire is that our ministry be based upon genuine, biblical truth; not based upon the popular traditions of men.

n May this year, Ghana witnessed one of the biggest and most profound gathering of Christians in one faith. Captioned “The Supernatural Empowerment Summit 2014”, the event was organised and hosted by Perez Chapel International under the able leadership of the Founder and Presiding Bishop, His Honour Bishop Charles Agyinasare.

Bishop Charles Agyinasare, Founder and Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel Int. and Host of The Supernatural Empowerment Summit

Apart from Bishop Charles Agyinasare who ministered at the Summit, the six-day programme featured one of Ghana’s foremost pastors, Apostle-General Sam Koranchie Ankrah, General Overseer of Royal House Chapel, and one of Nigeria’s foremost men of God, Bishop David Oyedepo, Founder of Winners Chapel International. With a total record attendance of over 20,000 plus people, the Summit attracted participants from 26 different countries around the world. Among the participants were Government officials, corporate executives, business owners, pastors and church leaders, students and people from varied backgrounds. Bishop Agyinasare kick-started the Summit on the 26th May and set the pace for the far-reaching outcomes of the Summit. He laid a phenomenal foundation on the essence of supernatural empowerment and conscientized participants on the need to consistently pray. The respected Bishop led participants to pray for Ghana. Typical of his astounding ministry, Bishop Agyinasare demonstrated the supernatural; countless testimonies of healings and breakthroughs were given by participants. During his session and delivery, Reverend Sam Koranchie Ankrah also led participants to prayer for the economy of Ghana. He prophesied that there would be a positive “shake up” in government which would take out certain unproductive

government officials and introduce new ones who would bring about the expected change in Ghana.

EARLY LIFE AND HISTORY:

Bishop David Oyedepo, the Guest Speaker at the Summit, crowned the power-laden delivery of his colleague ministers with instructive teachings on wealth creation. In a charged stance, the renowned Bishop spoke as an oracle of God and began to address the economic challenges of Ghana. Just like Elisha prophesied change in times of hardship in Israel in 2 Kings Chapter 7, Bishop Oyedepo prophesied in like manner and declared that the economy of Ghana would bounce back again and Ghanaians will sing a new song in the next 12 months.

n September 27, 1954 David Olaniyi Oyedepo was born in Omu Aran, Kwara State, into a religiously mixed family: his father, Ibrahim, was a Muslim healer and his mother, Dorcas, was a member of the Eternal Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement (C&S), a branch of the Aladura Movement in Nigeria. David was “born again” in 1969 through the influence of his teacher, one Ms. Betty Lasher, who took special interest in him during his high school days. He studied Architecture at Kwara State Polytechnic and worked briefly with the Federal Ministry of Housing Corporation in Ilorin before resigning to concentrate on missionary work. Bishop Oyedepo also gained a Ph.D in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawaii, United States of America.

The gathering entered into prayer to enforce the prophecy and establish this profound word.

ABOUT BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO:

D

avid O. Oyedepo, affectionately called “Papa” by his followers (born September 27, 1954) is a Nigerian Christian author, preacher, and founder and Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church World-Wide (also known as Winners Chapel) and its affiliated international churches known as Winners Chapel International, with headquarters in Ogun State, Nigeria. He is also the Senior Pastor of the acclaimed Faith Tabernacle, a 50,000-seat church auditorium reported to be the largest church auditorium in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. The Winners Chapel network of churches is presently in over 300 cities in all the states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as in over 63 cities in 32 African Nations, Dubai, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Bishop Oyedepo is seen as one of the pioneers of the Christian Charismatic Movement in Africa and has been referred to as one of the most powerful preachers in Nigeria. 30 KHARIS

O

According to him, he received a mandate from God through an 18-hour long vision in May 1981 to ‘liberate the world from all oppression of the devil through the preaching of the word of faith’. This is the inaugural vision that led to the founding of the LFCWW, first called Liberation Faith Hour Ministries, in 1981. Two years after, on 17 September 1983, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, ordained David and his wife, Florence Abiola Akano (now known as Faith Abiola Oyedepo) to become pastors and also officially commissioned Oyedepo’s new church. Five years after, Oyedepo was ordained a Bishop. Oyedepo’s church was started in Kaduna, but he moved to Lagos, the former capital of Nigeria, in September 1989 to start a new branch of the church, after receiving an instruction from God to reach out to the population in Lagos. This church has grown to become the international headquarters of his

Church. Due to the increasing flow of people into his Church with crowds spilling over to adjacent roads and on decks of uncompleted buildings nearby and people standing for hours to listen to His teachings, it became necessary to search for a larger place. This led to the building of the renowned Faith Tabernacle.

CHRISTIAN MINISTRY

T

he teachings of Bishop Oyedepo have put him in the category of what is commonly called the Word of Faith Movement. He has referred to principal exponents of the Faith Movement such as Kenneth Copeland, Gloria Copeland, the late Kenneth Hagin, T.L Osborn, Smith Wigglesworth as well as renowned Nigerian preachers, Enoch Adeboye and the late Benson Idahosa, as mentors. His teachings are grouped under a range of topics called ‘12 pillars of faith’, which include: Faith, The Word, Prosperity, the Holy Spirit, Praise, Consecration, the Supernatural, Wisdom, Prayer, Success, Vision and Healing. The Overall focus of His teachings centre around Faith in God’s Word, Prosperity and Miracles. He teaches that faith in the Word of God is the key to a life of God’s blessings and security from the works of the devil. His teachings on prosperity are aimed at empowering people to live free from poverty, particularly the African continent. He describes his own teaching on prosperity as “covenant software for programming yourself into victories and triumphs.” His Church (Winners Chapel) also operates a Bible training programme known as Word of Faith Bible Institute for members and nonmembers alike to develop knowledge of Christian principles and to develop leaders and future pastors. This institute is run in major branches of the Church.

Oyedepo, who operates like the “Chief Executive Officer” of a conglomerate, is the President of David Oyedepo Ministries International (DOMI). DOMI is the umbrella organisation comprising Living Faith Church World Wide (a global network of churches), World Mission Agency (WMA); the global missionary arm of the church’s operations, Dominion Publishing House; the publishing arm of the church, Covenant University, and the Social Development Missions projects (made up of hospitals, maternity homes, schools, etc.) Oyedepo is also a strong critic of corruption in Africa as a whole and poor leadership in government

EDUCATIONAL ENDEAVOURS

O

yedepo’s socio-economic endeavours include founding educational institutions based on Christian principles for primary, secondary and tertiary stages of formal education to empower the young generation, develop the human capacity and improve the educational system in Nigeria and Africa. This has led to the establishment of kingdom heritage model schools in different cities in Nigeria for primary education, Faith Academy (a full boarding missionary secondary school) and Covenant University. Covenant University was opened to students on October 21, 2002 and was adjudged the best private university in Nigeria as at 2005.

Just like Elisha prophesied change in times of hardship in Israel in 2 Kings Chapter 7, Bishop Oyedepo prophesied in like manner and declared that the economy of Ghana would bounce back again and Ghanaians will sing a new song in the next 12 months.

hana has gained international reputation in recent times for her numerous efforts at creating an enabling environment for start-ups which has been discovered as a key driver of growth in most emerging economies in the world. Interestingly, one of the main areas of attention in this field of startup entrepreneurship is Information and Communications Technology.

aximus Ametorgoh is a technology consultant, social media strategist, advertiser and columnist. His areas of expertise cut across advertising, social media, web/app development and digital media. The United States, Mediabistro and University of Ghana educated young man is the Managing Director of PopOut, a leading technology start-up company based in Accra. PopOut is arguably one of Ghana’s emerging technology companies. “The PopOut dream started in 2008 when we set out to make a difference. Just like any other business, we were subject to financial challenges. It wasn’t easy getting the needed support to take off with some of the things we wanted to do. It was that tough but we managed to sail through”, explains Maximus. Today, PopOut has worked on projects for European Union, The British Council, United Bank for Africa Ghana Ltd, Access Bank Ghana Ltd, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Citi 97.3fm, SoftTribe, PZ Cussons,

Maximus has been featured severally on major media channels in Ghana, such as Joy 99.7FM, Citi 97.3FM, Radio XYZ 93.1FM, Live 91.9FM, GTV and TV3. He writes for the BusinessWorld magazine and Graphic Business published by the Graphic Communications Group. Maximus is of the view that” technology is the new business tool as well as a profitable business on its own”. He adds that “technology will format every business and industry globally so it is time for businesses to adopt technology, now and rightly”. As a step towards taking the brand global, PopOut recently organised a Digital Marketing Summit in partnership with Brand School in South Africa. Maximus is a very clear about the future of PopOut: “We aim at helping businesses grow by providing them tailor-made technology solutions. Our goal is to build world-class applications that will have great effects on businesses”.

T

he year was 2006. A young man through a prophetic word left the shores of Nigeria armed with a varsity degree into Ghana where he had no idea exactly what he was going to do with his life. With no job at stake for him, he negotiated his way with Koforidua Polytechnic to work for free until there is a vacancy for him to be fully employed. So, he worked for six months without pay. After spending a couple of weeks there. Mr. Godwin Martey saw a need; the school had no functioning website. He wrote a memo to that effect but his good intention was faced with a strong opposition. All the same, he went ahead to develop the site and hosted it. You won’t believe what happened. He was promoted to the status of Technology Officer with a whole office to himself and put on salary. He went on to provide a chat system for the school and was even given a course to teach which he excelled. Talk of persistence and diligence! Godwin then began to explore the avenue of helping other businesses around to solve similar problems and that was how the Websoft dream began. Today, The Big Godwin; (as he is often called) is a multigifted President of the Soft Group Ltd. He is a motivational speaker, leader, mentor, I.T Consultant and a passionate Saxophone Player. Just like any start-up entrepreneur, Godwin had his own challenges. “I had no computer then and had to borrow one from a friend to use at home. Clients were not willing to pay for the services. I was doing everything myself. On one occasion, he recounts, “the computer got spoiled and I could not afford to repair it for the owner so I was dragged to the “counter back” at the Police Station”, smiling. He saw a lot of opportunities then. “There were no competitors. It was almost KHARIS

zero. There was a need for website development and other softwaresapplications for businesses”. His passion for Entrepreneurship has drilled depth in his understanding of business processes and growing SMEs in the Sub Saharan Africa, transforming him from Core I.T Personnel to a highly sortafter Business Consultant. He has consulted for many Banks and other multinationals including UT Bank, Unibank, First Atlantic Bank, Sahel Sahara Bank, Royal Bank, just to name a few. Godwin has an advice for start-ups: “There are no new obstacles. They only rebrand in a different way”. However, he maintains that” at every stage, God’s wisdom is available to take one through as he depends on His guidance. Facts cannot be denied but they are not the truth, and this is because, “No system designed by man has the ability to dominate the Christian who walks by faith”. He concludes that even God has contacts all over the world. “He has friends in every part of the globe that he could call upon at any time to execute his assignments. Your network reveals your net wealth. As a start-up, you should seize every opportunity to make new contacts as this is critical to your success in business”. On faith and business, he has this to say: “At Websoft, we pray every morning and do Bible Study. This is a daily company habit we have become accustomed to. As the CEO, you have to be spirituallyminded. You cannot separate your business from your faith because your business was founded on your faith. You can’t shy away from it. Business and the anointing are inseparable. The anointing helps you to get results. Principles don’t always give you the same results. The difference maker is the anointing and the grace of God”.

Supporting Tech Revolution In Africa

he highly energetic and ambitious Nelson Amo could not be described more aptly than that.

Today, he serves as a Co-Founder & CEO of Tech World Africa. “Tech World Africa, like many other ventures begun as an idea on a piece of paper a couple of years back. The initial idea was to develop a monthly e-newsletter on technological advancements especially in Africa, and the rest of the world. This idea however evolved quickly into a web news platform which sought to contribute to the sustainability of technological innovations in Africa by enhancing the knowledge and visibility of such. Although the emphasis was on innovations in Africa, we also saw the need to feature what was happening around the world since we live in one big global market and its imperative” he explains on how the idea began. Tech World Africa has achieved some successes over the years. Through its affiliate company, E-Marketing Solutions Limited, a digital marketing agency, TWA has done works for reputable organizations like tisu.com.gh, JobsGhana, Nelson Capital, Innohub Foundation, Daily Express, African Women and Leadership Organization, Allsports, Angle Zoe Foundation just to name a few. The company also seized a number of opportunities that came its way. So, what opportunities did Tech World Africa seize? “The main opportunity we saw and capitalized on was the fact that there were not many of such web platforms solely dedicated to technology news in Africa and we felt we could take up that space and build something great. We leveraged on our networks in the tech community to create a heightened level of interest before the final launch of the platform in October 2012. With a countdown showing the world when the site was going to be up, the site literally froze the moment we launched due to the tremendous volume of traffic at that time. It was phenomenal and the team knew this had come to stay. We had an edge in the fact that the tech community appeared to have been waiting for something like this to happen and we made it happen.” Nelson Amo explains. Mr. Amo has a word to emerging entrepreneurs: “The start-up space sounds exciting from a distance but you need to have the mindset and

spirit of a “possibilitarian” to survive in there. On the vision, Nelson says, “Tech World Africa seeks to be the first point of call for original content on technology news from Africa, with a strong visibility in the tech space in Africa and the rest of the world. We are building a team of correspondents and contributors from other African countries to make this dream a reality”. Visit website: www.techworldafrica. com

NSANO:

Ghana’s Exclusive Enterprise Mobile Financial Solutions Provider

N

SANO is an IT company which develops innovative business management and custom enterprise softwares for companies and organizations across Africa. The company currently focuses on providing financial institutions with a platform which enables them to provide mobile phone based financial services solutions to their clients. The company is a wholly- owned Ghanaian company founded by its CEO, Mr. Kofi Owusu Nhyira and Co-founder Mr. Gideon Adjah who serves as COO. Kofi has led the company since its inception as a Custom Applications & Telecoms Software Provider in Ghana, to its current dominance as mobile financial services Software Company. Kofi had previously worked with e-Tranzact as its Business Development Manager. He holds an LLB from the GIMPA Law School and a degree in Information Studies from

the University of Ghana. “We engaged in months of discussions and strategy sessions to figure out a new business area which we could leverage our strengths and backgrounds to make the most impact as far as industry and consumers are concerned. The end result of those months of deliberations and vigorous idea development was NSANO. Before we even went ahead to register as a company, we assembled a team of young computer engineers, some of the finest from both our public and private tertiary institutions and they began developing some solutions we had come up with. They included enterprise solutions and online based services”, he shares with Kharis Magazine on how the idea began. The company experienced its major breakthrough when it received a request to develop a sales management platform from a multi-national mobile telecommunication company. It then began to get contracts from other telecommunication companies as well as some public and private institutions. In 2014, NSANO decided to strategically focus on its payment platform which is also a mobile phonebased application that allows customers of financial institutions to undertake several banking and transactional activities by the use of their mobile phones. Kofi was quick to add that his several years of experience in the electronic payments industry have really contributed to the fast growth of NSANO. ”We therefore decided to let NSANO run exclusively as an enterprise mobile financial solutions company and create another IT company which will solely handle all other enterprise solutions and custom application development. This company has partnered Seven Seas, Kenya to provide such solution across Africa”, he explains. NSANO has some good track record to boast of. “The company was the first to introduce USSD based mobile phone banking and bill payment transactions in Ghana. Till date it has several banks, savings and loans and micro-finance institutions using its various products. “The company’s ultimate vision is to provide innovative ways of reaching the unbanked while we create a cashless society across the continent through the use of mobile phones. NSANO was recently selected to participate in the Stanford Seed program and has also been mentioned in the Harvard Business Review as one of the promising IT companies in Ghana. KHARIS

If you have to now tune your arsenal of defences at the moment of asking, we can conclude that you have already lost the contest. Good coaches always look for simulation exercises in training and the rationale is to condition muscles in the closest pattern to what the Game demands. The same is true of military training. This strategy was not lost on the Apostle Paul as he instructed that a good soldier regiments himself and avoids some of the accommodations of a Civilian.

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth

himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 1 Timothy 2:3,4. A Christian must be in a constant state of readiness. A battle ready Christian is one who creates an artificial emergency in peace time. When your moments of intense prayer happen only during a crisis, you are in quite lamentable trouble. We cannot have the same cues as the world. Fervency must characterize all your prayer and not just your crisis prayers. It’s been said abundantly but I still believe not enough, that the Christian’s walk is a spiritual one. What baffles then, is why Spiritual people wait for the same alarm signals as unspiritual people before we engage in fervent prayer.

Game Fitness We have an ENEMY who prowls, which means he does not play fair. He does not wait for the whistle before He attacks and He is not seen with physical eyes.

GET YOUR PESPECTIVE Right

T

hese were the words of Mordecai to Queen Esther in the book of Esther in the Bible. Esther had to take a risk at a very prime time of her life. She had been made queen by strange circumstances. She was appointed as queen only when another had failed. Esther was put in place of Vashti who had incurred the wrath of the king and the people. Now the new queen did not only have to create a good name for herself, but she also had to ensure that she did not walk in the steps of her predecessor. I can imagine the burden on her and the pressure she must have faced. Then as if that was not enough, her people called on her at a very crucial time demanding that she risks her life for them. Couldn’t they feel her pressure and burden? Didn’t they appreciate what she was going through? Sometimes, the role as woman can be overwhelming. Sometimes you may think that too much is required of you and begin to get frustrated. But if we neglect our role, who will do what we are supposed to do? We have been created for a purpose and with a purpose. God saw a need and He made us; we were made for a specific reason.

No matter where we find ourselves as women, we must understand that creation has an expectation of us. We are to be help mates and preservers of society. Let us not give away these callings and begin to fight for unimportant things. God has made us vison implementors and destiny carriers. If your husband has a vison, you have been endowed with all it takes to help him carry it out. If there is chaos in any situation don’t complain, that is why you are there; you are a helper. Wherever God has placed you, your unique role as a helper is needed. Not only in marriage but in every situation or organisation you find yourself. We are supposed to help things work and succeed. We are to make maximum input and ensure that great things are achieved. At the workplace, at home, at school, at church – everywhere you find yourself as a woman – things must work and succeed. If you are at a place and things are failing you need to get to God, because if you don’t then you are not exuding who you are. God placed us on earth here to help things work. We have been made the salt of the world. Our existence means things must be preserved. I believe that where there is a woman, there should be success; you have what it takes. No matter your position, whether at the fore or behind,

you have what it takes to help things work out. Solutions are within you. It is a unique role and duty the Lord has given us. If we are to connect to Him and use the grace available to us we will see great change in a lot of things in the world. Instead of complaining, ask the Lord what you can do to help, because that is why you were created. Let that be your constant prayer and see how the Lord will greatly use you to solve problems, save nations and make impact wherever you find yourself. It may seem overwhelming but since it is what we have been designed to do, you will see such fulfillment with which it will come. Don’t just exist as a woman and live through life without a purpose. Find out how you can help wherever you are and do it. Many marriages have failed because the helper didn’t know what to do. Many companies have collapsed because the helpers didn’t know what to do. Many nations are in pain because the helpers are indifferent. We need helpers in the world today; helpers to bring solutions to economic crisis and solutions to problems. We need helpers to bring to us what we need at each point in our lives. God has brought us wherever we are now for such a time as this. This is who we are; this is what we are made for! Get your perspective right!

T

he Bible makes it clear in Proverbs 29:2 that “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn”. Christians should begin to spread their tentacles and let others see Jesus in their lives and endeavours. Our country is bleeding profusely from corruption, stealing, lawlessness, indiscipline, and massive moral decomposition. Who are the architects of these nefarious practices? Where are they? What are their religious beliefs? Do they go to church and is the Word of God preached to them? Are they creatures of God? Do they have conscience? I am sure people will argue among other things that it is very difficult to stay in this evil world without compromising your faith. If that is the situation, then the Gospel is useless and the time and resources spent in our churches today are all a waste of time. It is in the midst of this darkness, this decomposition and these difficulties that the marketplace believer must make a real difference – to let his/her light so shine before others. Apostle Paul wrote to believ-

ers in Titus 2:11-12: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.” Yes, it should be possible for today’s marketplace believer to stay away from corruption, stealing, dishonesty, greed, selfishness, lies, cheating, etc. because indulging in them defiles your faith. After all, believers are supposed be the Temple of the Holy Spirit! What I know and believe in is that evil shall not reign perpetually. The world has suffered a lot from the evil activities and practices of men. Many nations are wallowing in poverty and stagnation because of corrupt leaders and citizens. Many companies have collapsed because of greedy desires of some of their managers or staff. And many others are bleeding financially because of corrupt and shady deals of few “greedy bastards”. The standards of education have been declining in the last few years. In the same period, the cost of education has been skyrocketing. The world has become a dangerous place to do business because evil seems to be reigning.

Inspiration

MATTERS of FAITH IN THE MARKETPLACE IS THERE ANY SOLUTION? Are you a Christian? If yes, then you are the solution. We cannot completely uproot evil practices from the marketplace but we can collectively expose them. The corruption canker that has engulfed all aspects of our national lives can be minimized if true believers can allow their faith to be the measuring rod of their thoughts and actions. Our redemption in Christ was meant to reposition us to be the vanguard of honest and disciplined deeds in the marketplace and anything short of this means the SAVIOUR died in vain. Let’s all true believers in Christ arise and shine so that Corporate Ghana and the whole nation can prosper. The renaissance has started and the new wind of real change is blowing. It started on the 29th March, 2014. And the change is Spiritpreneurship! Let’s use this Spiritpreneurship platform to propagate the needed information for the needed transformation. Watch out for the next Spiritpreneurship Summit! Only The Lord will help us!

M

r. and Mrs. Nimoh have been happily married for 17 memorable years. They are indeed a blessed lot. What better time to plan a good vacation than this anniversary occasion. Mr. Nimoh had rolled out an elaborate vacation plan and budget to get his faithful partner the best he could ever give her. Mr. Nimoh was particularly grateful to God for Ama’s love, hard work and compassion for the family over the years. She had given him three grown up children. They were all a pleasant and constant source of joy and happiness to the affable couple. The close-knit friendship between the couple played out vividly when Ama’s niece, Yaa gave birth to her first child. The usual convention was that the Yaa’s mother would visit her daughter and baby-sit for a while but unfortunately Yaa’s mother had passed on giving Aunty Ama as she was affectionately called, a delightful responsibility of taking care of her niece and the newly born baby. However, Mr. Nimoh wouldn’t want Auntie Ama to leave without him. The two agreed to go together and baby-sit for just a week or two after which her niece’s mother-in-law would take over. Mr. Nimoh went to town to purchase a few items for the new-born baby and the mother. Excited, he called his wife, Auntie Ama, to inform her he was on his way home. The call went unanswered. After a third try, he assumed his wife was up to her usual joke of keeping him in suspense. That has been her occasional “prank” on

Mr. Nimoh. However, that wasn’t the case this time. Mr. Nimoh got home and went straight to the kitchen. What he met in the kitchen evoked pain and anxiety in him. His cherished wife and friend lay prostrate on the floor, unconscious. He threw the shopping bags away and tried to lift his motionless wife in his arms. He yelled for help and rushed her unconscious wife to the nearest health facility. Auntie Ama was revived, but her health condition was alarming: she had cervical cancer. How would he get money to get his wife the prescribed treatment? His monthly pension income was very little. Mr. Nimoh stood pensive; he gazed into the ceiling wondering, “From where will my help come?” Then Aunty Ama whispered into his ears from the hospital bed, “Do you remember my subscription to the StarLife Family Protection Plan?” “Do you remember my monthly contribution of GHC30.00?” Cheer up dear and let’s go to the offices of StarLife Assurance where we are due a comprehensive benefit cover of GHC 5000. 00 which can easily cater for the treatment of this ailment. Suddenly Mr. Nimoh smiled and said, “Ama indeed you are a wise woman!”

Equipping The Saints

EIKON AND HOMOIOMA

A

re you wondering the meaning of these two words? Well, they are greek words for image or

Hebrews 1:3-4 Who being the brightness of His glory and the express IMAGE of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high.(NKJV)

Romans 8:29. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the IMAGE of his son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.(NKJV)

The first one Eikon means a resemblance of two people which is as a result of them sharing the same Here the Hebrew word used is life. Character which carries the same The second which is Homoioma meaning as Eikon. In the bible, the means a resemblance of two people first Adam is called the son of God.

The father expressed himself as the son. The son also came and expressed himself as the church. So as many as receive Jesus, they are given power to bear the image of the last Adam.

which is not as a result of them sharing the same life. For instance, you can see two people who look very much like each other but they may not be related by blood. This was the kind of relationship between the first Adam and God. He was merely a shadow. He didn’t have the life of God. He was God’s product or his idea and bore his attributes.

Luke 3:38 …the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the SON of God.(NKJKV)

John 1:12-13. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in his name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of GOD.(NKJV)

But Jesus Christ is the Eikon of God. He proceeded from the father.

Jesus was the only begotten of the father(John 3:16). He proceeded forth from the father(John 8:42)

likeness.

2Corinthians 4:4 …whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the IMAGE of God, should shine on them. (NKJV) Colossians 1:15 He is the IMAGE of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.(NKJV) The greek word used here is Eikon which means the very offspring of God. It is used in the same sense as a father giving birth to a son. He was the very expression of the father.

The phrase ‘son of God’ means one who is of God by creation. He didn’t have any earthly parents. God created him. The same meaning is implied when the bible calls Angels ‘sons of God’. Adam didn’t proceed from the father as Jesus did.

1 Corinthians 15:48-49. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly man(NKJV) Jesus came to make it possible for man to bear his image. So you have a choice either to continue to bear the image of the first Adam or bear the image of the last Adam. It is God’s plan and will that we bear the image of his son.

They are given the right to become the Eikon of Jesus. This means they become the very sons of God. All those who are in the first Adam are creations of God. But all those in the last Adam are sons, off springs of God. They are born by their parents but are born again by God in the spirit. This is what we mean by a new creation. When you are in Christ, you are a new species of being of a superior kind. Now you become a citizen of heaven.(Philippians 3:20). You hail from God (1John 4:4). God becomes your very father. He has the same love for you as he had for Jesus. To be continued... KHARIS
