BY THE NUMBERS
WELCOME TO OUR 2016–2017 SEASON Our new Boston Baroque season promises to be an exhilarating one for me, for our performers, and for our audiences. I look forward to revisiting and rethinking two huge masterworks: Bach’s Mass in B Minor, nominated for a Grammy when we last recorded it well over a decade ago, and Handel’s magnificent opera Giulio Cesare. I also look forward to working with spectacular soloists, including returning Metropolitan Opera star Susanna Phillips and the great countertenor David Daniels in his Boston Baroque debut. These are just two of the many wonderful and well-known soloists coming to perform with us this season. In a very different vein, our virtuosic concertmaster Christina Day Martinson will take center stage with members of the ensemble to perform one of the most challenging cycles ever written for violin: Heinrich Biber’s The Mystery Sonatas. It is a technical tour de force that is rarely presented complete, but her acclaimed performance is also an emotional experience that audiences have found deeply moving. You will not want to miss this special event. Finally, our Messiah and New Year's concerts continue our popular and ever fresh holiday tradition. But Boston Baroque's music also goes beyond our subscription series, as we continue our commitment to making music accessible to all with our annual Free Community Concerts, and as we expand our newly launched, enthusiastically received Classics for Kids series. I invite you to join us for what will be another exciting season!
