Create Your Personal Mission Statement for 2016 The Essentials of Financial Wellbeing According to Tom Rath and Jim Harter, authors of WELL BEING, The five Essential Elements (2010). ”People with thriving Financial Wellbeing are satisfied with their overall standard of living. They manage their personal finances well to create financial security. This eliminates day-to-day stress caused by debt and helps build financial reserves. People with high Financial Wellbeing spend their money wisely. They buy experiences that provide them with lasting memories. They give to others and don’t just spend on themselves. As a result of managing their money wisely, they have the financial freedom to spend even more time with the people whose company they enjoy most. Three recommendations for boosting financial wellbeing: 1.

Buy experiences – such as vacations and outings with friends or loved ones.

2.

Spend on others instead of solely on material possessions.

3.

Establish default systems (automated payments and savings) that lessen daily worry about money.”

Start the New Year off with recognizing your strengths, creating your vision and setting your intentions of everything you would like to do and have in your career. Creating a personal vision and mission sets you up to meet the objectives important to your fulfillment. Project Manager Coach Susanne Madsen shares an example of what a mission and vision statement may look like: “My vision is to be an honest, empathetic and impactful project leader and to be recognized internationally within my industry. I am committed to growing as a leader and delivering value-added projects to the end users. My mission is to create and lead a dream team where everyone is playing to their strengths.” A vision statement is a declaration of your objectives, foresight and intentions for the future. A mission is an allotted or self-imposed duty or task; a calling; one’s mission in life. Use these tips to get started in writing your personal statement: Answer the following questions as honestly as you can. 

What personal qualities do you most want to emphasize in yourself?

How can you use and display these qualities in a working environment?

What are your most important values you want to express at work?

Visualize yourself five years from now. 

Imagine yourself in the future and be specific about your observations. Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you interfacing with? How are you feeling? What impact are you having?

Take your thoughts and continue to put them together and refine until you end up with a personal statement that is unique to you, easy to remember and brings inspiration to embracing your career.
