OBJECTIVE The mere objective of making this report is to understand the parameters that influence will filing a design patent for a product. One has to incorporate all the specific details as the value of a design patent is largely dependent upon the skillful preparation of the drawings. And one has to justify how their product is unique or new that it can be patented.

mode of INSPIRATION Africa is a very large an unique continent, with many tribes and diverse ethnic people each with their own culture, language, customs and history. Tribes and ethnic groups in Africa range from stone-age cultures to modern 21st century people all living next to each other. In our basic knowledge, there are currently 410 african tribes listed. INSPIRATION : ■■ The use of vibrant colors ■■ The motifs and repitation of the style. ■■ The patterns and textures around their body ■■ The authenticity and essence of ethnic ■■ The colorful beads and arrangement of the same around the body



EXPLORATION OF MOTIFS Different motifs are generated from visual images of african tribes to derive all the possible styles or shapes that gives the essence of ethnic in a modern manner. IMPORTANCE : These motifs help to portray the ethnic culture and tribal look in the most simplified manner yet in a novel look. Hence, leading us to the creation of our product inspired from African tribes.

Techniques used are enamelling, casting, stone setting and polishing. summary : The product gives the feel of a combination of tribal culture in an novel and unusual apperance which enhances the beauty of the product.

WHAT MAKES THE PRODUCT UNIQUE? THOUGHT PROCESS : Generally arfican jewellery is related with colorful beads and sliver metal which are considered to be cheap and easily accessible by all. But this jewellery has taken the look and feel of an tribal jewellery to a high luxury clientele as precious and semi-precious materials are used. Hence, bringing out the country touch to a high end product. surface embellishment : The jewellery has color changing stones which change according to the light i.e in the sunlight it appears dark in color and in night light, it appears light in color. It is inspired from the principle of the powered lenses which change color in sunlight. But dispite of glass, they are man-made stones. DESIGN functionality : The jewellery is detechable as the circular part and the lower curves as seperable. So one can use one set of earrings in to different style.

HOW CAN IT BE PROTECTED? ways of protection : Designers and companies can seek to protect their jewelry and other accessory designs through copyright, trademark and/or design patent registrations. • Trademark registration protects jewelry and other accessory designs that are inherently distinctive or have acquired distinctiveness/secondary meaning in the marketplace. In other words, the design must function as a source identifier. • Copyright registration protects designs that are sufficiently creative and artistic. Copyrightable works include logos, artwork, or design elements that are stitched, imprinted or embossed onto fabric; and ornamental aspects of jewelry, • Design patent registration protects the overall aesthetic appearance of a design (i.e., the ornamental aspects of jewelry). Specifically, the designs must be new and sufficiently different from all prior designs. DESIGN PATENT : Issued for a new, original, and ornamental design embodied in or applied to an article of manufacture, it permits its owner to exclude others from making, using, or selling the design. Design patents are not subject to the payment of maintenance fees.
