From the Director’s Desk

Creativity makes people curious to think differently which drives out of box thinking. Creativity is the most important human resource, which will pave way of progress and growth in this world. It changes the patterns and changes the way do things. Innovation is the next step which starts from Imagination, curiosity, different thinking, and finally doing new things which is called Innovation. With the fast phase of change all across, if we don‘t change we will perish and KIAMS Chankya team has realized the importance of creativity to bring out this August issue on this theme is commendable. I congratulate Professor Gita Madhuri and the entire Chankaya team for this great effort to bring out various articles on this theme. It is always good to have many ideas in hand, even if some go wrong do not matter, many may make sense to implement ― A painter told me that nobody could draw a tree without in some sort becoming a tree; or draw a child by studying outlines of its form merely…but by watching for a time his motions and plays, the painter enters into his nature and can then draw him at every attitude‖ Ralp Waldo Emerson. Creativity is all about experimenting, drawing different patterns, taking risks and sometimes breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun while discovering something to do things entirely different yet come out with a success. For a management graduate it is important to understand the fact that the companies that have done the best in the world have always imagined at work place, encouraged creativity and finally innovators too, whether it is GE, Google, Yahoo or Apple. Every management graduate must be creative to innovate. Creation is the higher level of Creativity, whether it is the Almighty who created infinite, yet unique human beings or Elizabethan drama would have gone on without Shakespeare, but no one else would have written Othello. Similarly, there are things that only your organization can create! The Crux is to tap those who can create the same in an organization. May be each one of you. Therefore, you need to be imaginative, creative, and innovative to bring some value proposition to your existence and to your future organization. Create and Co-create, that is where the World is moving. Dr. C.N.Narayana, Principal Director, KIAMS

EDITORIAL

Dear Readers, Kiams which is famous for its diversity and trying something new all the time, has an embedded value which allows its students to engage themselves in out of the box thinking. This edition of Chanakya tries to capture that very strait in students. For this edition of Chanakya we had asked our students to write on Creativity or anything that comes to their mind. People have given us articles on what their passionate about, How they see the world and all other things that drives them. The result well in this edition of Chanakya we got the most number of articles for one section then ever before. This edition also holds an article in reverence to one person who was an excellent teacher and often encouraged students to think of the Box. Chanakya would like to use this opportunity to pay homage to the great teacher Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. Happy Reading

KIAMS Complains about our teacher

How Dare he? What did he think that one man would be able to change the face of politics? That we would let a simple teacher achieve great heights and we would let him do so? How could he even imagine that he would quietly go about doing his work and we would even begin to perceive the change that we would need in our political system? But he still did it………… Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in the temple town of Rameshwaram. God made sure that one of his best creations to be born right in his own house. We could talk about his childhood or his achievements but all this can also be found at a click of a button on Google. What you cannot find there is how the youth of this nation feels about this great personality. How a simple student feels that the 11th president of India became his teacher and impacted him. How a sceptic thought all the above mentioned questions could never be answered until he saw this man talking about making the parliament house entirely solar powered. Page 6

KIAMS I first met Dr.Kalam in his book Wings of Fire. A politition with a salman Khan hair style is what I first thought about him. Little did I know then that he would become a greater Hero then any that I had ever known.

He transformed me into his student when he first walked into the presidential palace with nothing but one single bag. He made me fall in love by showing to me how the Commander in Chief of the armed forces could still be humble. He made me his devote when he paid for his family‘s Delhi visit from his own salary. He changed my perception about a politician when he did not bye even one single property on his name. When people told me about Jay Prakash Narayan and his following I was never able to grasp the depth of their devotion, Never was I sure why people began to bry when they heard the name of Nelson Mendela. Never till I met Dr. Kalam. Thank You Sir for teaching me about humility, for teaching me the power of simplicity, For showing me that a teacher should always lead by example, For showing me that a politician can be a learned and poor man. But most importantly thank you sir for being who you were and providing this nation with an idol whose image would be used to carve our future generations. My only complaint sir is that I was got the opportunity to meet you in person and shake your hand.

KIAMS Is email marketing still alive? Is the world same now as it was few years back? No it is not, it has evolved. No one can argue on the fact that death is inevitable but to think that ‗E-mail Marketing‘ is dead is unjust and jarring. Many say that it is dead but there are many instances to prove that firms still invest a good amount of their customer engagement budget in email marketing. Almost all strategists have incorporated some changes in their marketing strategy due to changes in platforms available, but that does not mean that certain method is dead, infact it means it has just evolved. There have been changes attributed to email marketing strategy and these changes have shown better results. As a matter of fact, customers do check their emails almost daily which shows that marketers need to leverage on this and use it as an effective channel to reach their consumers. It is unjust on our part to expect that emails alone will result in sales, infact email is the first step in the consumer‘s decision journey. Emails provide us a platform to engage with our customers individually and also reach the mass quite conveniently. Email marketing still has one of the best ROI as compared to other channels available. A number of companies send their promo code to be used by their customers through emails although they need to create a sense of urgency among the customers to use this in a limited time period. Email marketing becomes all the more important in case of B2B marketing where emails are still considered to be the most effective lead generation tactic. “Study done by Capterra showed that for every $1 spent on email marketing, the average return is $44.25 which is a proof of its excellent ROI.”

I think marketers need to figure out how to creatively integrate email marketing into their business and overall engagement strategy. The focus must be on educating their customers and making them aware and knowledgeable about their brand and the product. Businesses need to create and add value to their customers through this channel. It is utmost important for marketers to focus on the entire customer journey and not just the initial step of click. “As per the statistics from Market Cloud, 66% of the consumers have made a purchase online as a result of an email marketing message.”

Besides social media, email marketing is a very important channel for startups to engage with their customers, to build their brand and to be in constant touch of their prospects and customers. Emails can help firms to direct more traffic on their websites and also boost their social media channel of interaction. For cold emailing to yield results, firms need to write things which the prospects care about. More you educate and inform your client, more is the chance of a probable reply from them. Emphasis should be laid on writing a catchy subject line which customer think is relevant for her/him. The email should have a personal touch attached to itself. Creativity in selecting the right words is of utmost importance for email marketing now. Page 8

KIAMS The concept of SMAC (Social Mobile Analytics Cloud) has become very important in the present scenario and marketers need to evolve their email marketing strategy keeping this in mind. Social media is the new buzz word for marketers as an engagement channel and email marketing can help to generate more following on the popular social networking sites. With the increase in the number of smartphones, it is quite evident that customers have access to their emails on their fingertips which has made emails all the more accessible. The impact of big data and analytics can be leveraged on the data which can be generated from the emails and can be used to segment and target the customer base effectively and provide them with relevant content. Since majority of the customers now open their emails on mobile, email marketers need to make sure that they present the emails in one column format so that the emails fits well in the mobile screen. The choice of the font should be such that it is ideal for readability on mobile. Marketers need to consider ergonomics and keep important tappable elements in the middle of the screen. “As per the survey conducted by TopRankBlog, 64% of the decision-makers read their email via mobile phones.” Almost all the CRM products available today have emails as an integral part of their engagement application. Many firms are now coming up with email marketing automation platform which has been used by more than 1400 brands. Thus the concept of smart emails and cloud usage is evolving and getting assimilated in email marketing. It is still very difficult to imagine a corporate deal getting finalized without a single email being shared between the parties involved. Emails can also be used as an effective feedback tool which in turn can help in knowing our customers better and about their needs and behaviours. “As per Earnest Agency, 72% of B2B buyers are most likely to share useful content via email.” The time at which emails are sent becomes very critical considering the fact that the email may not be read and remain unnoticed. As per Experian Marketing Services, it was found that the time of the day which received the best open rate was 8 pm to midnight. Not only this, this slot also performed well when it came to clickthrough and sales conversion. A valid argument for this phenomenon can be that email marketers target the working hours only thus the evening slot remains unnoticed and inbox crowding is very less during the evening hours. Extending this observation, email strategists should send more emails during weekends. Customers are in a mood of shopping and purchasing during weekends therefore, a promotional mail during weekends may turn out into sale more often. Along with the time slot, content plays a very important role for emails to be read by the customers. Email strategists and marketers should be ready to give away something to their customers. Usually, it is noticed that customers open those mails which have some incentive for them. It could be a free lunch coupon or a free template or even a free demo. Promotion through freebies is also becoming significant nowadays to make sure that email offer turns into a sale. Re-engaging with the inactive customer base is also very important. Re-engagement campaigns should be launched after regular intervals specially targeting the inactive customers because a product/service ignored by a probable customer before may be of use now for the same

Page 9

KIAMS customer. Therefore, such programs should be launched after regular intervals. You need to remind your seasonal customers and prospects that you exist. Organisations can also take advantage of email marketing by projecting themselves as environment friendly company, which is working in order to save this planet Earth. Firms need to take advantage of this fact and publicize the fact that how many trees are they saving yearly by advertising through emails and very limited use of print marketing pieces. Similar message about saving trees should be highlighted in the emails as well so that customers looking to buy a product order by clicking through your email and not by other means thus improving the sales figure through emails. We will see many changes in emails in coming times and email marketing will evolve itself to a new level, keeping in mind the changes in consumer behaviors and their email usages. We may see emails taking a leap from text based messages to graphic based messages because graphics are much more appealing and also emails are being viewed on mobile screens. Big data, which has touched nearly every facet of business in a few years will play an important role in email marketing as well, generating key trends from analysing the consumer behaviors across segments. Automation tools will have a greater role now in coming years and will be a core of email marketing strategy. Professional writers will be in the spotlight in the future and one can expect many jobs opening in this field, writing for the customers keeping in mind the tastes of the narrowly targeted personas and maintaining the personalized flavor in the emails. Websites of the firms will be integrated with the email marketing efforts such that all those customers who drop an item from their shopping carts are pursued and re-engaged by triggering the email marketing campaigns. Marketing investments in other channels is certainly necessary as firms need to focus on omni- channel engagement with their customers but that does not mean that email as a channel is dead. No doubt social media as a channel is fast evolving and is an important aspect still it does not lead us to say that email marketing is dead. Email marketing is an integral part of any firm‘s omni- channel engagement strategy and will remain relevant in coming time as well, with some changes.

KIAMS ―We are in the midst of these everlasting summers. Perhaps. I often read in newspapers that even people with good education and hot degrees can‘t predict with precision where the medial longitudinal fissure lies,‖ he stole a quick glance to check whether I was sharp enough to fathom his high handedness. ―Heard someone who returned from Mumbai use this term yesterday. You do become erudite listening to enlightened people.‖ He continued after a hiatus, ―But calling someone working in a Pan shop in Mumbai an enlightened soul. Would that be right? No, no. What will you call the people with big cars and fat wallets in cities then? Any which ways, finding words for people of Azamgarh is not easy. Leaders of the past found it tough, the politicians of today don‘t care. Some people have floored our name. No, not people of my …‖ He stopped all of a sudden, mincing his words. ―They are all but good. Perhaps I shouldn‘t be talking too much after what has happened recently. People like you can take an elephant out of a naïve man‘s mouth, let alone words. They are just words.‖ He stopped. Although puzzled, I continued my journey, oblivious to the context of his remarks. No one knew which stage of the summers they were in, but this year like the droves of yester years was in no mood to offer any pleasant interlude. The skies had indeed burst out open last week with full vigour, as if to fuel people up for embracing a future bustle. It often happens this way, here, in this part of the world. Too much of propitiousness or too much of gloom. People here do know their roots, but past is too evanescent for them. The only thing they remember from their history text books must be the year of Indian independence. Well, not all though. Azamgarh, if thrown up a few centuries ago would have had many a historian cock-ahoop. Time does change a lot of things. Fast. This land can at best be said to be weeping in solitude. Villages in districts like Azamgarh are involved in the constant forage for identity. The reference of contemporary Azamgarh overshadows their glorious past. In one of its many villages, a ramshackle house, with bamboo shoots sufficient to push it high enough for human existence to sneak through and enough hay to prevent drowning in times of downpours, lay as sterile as it usually does. An old man, with his knees close to his chest, glasses which could have been in Page 12

KIAMS fashion a few decades ago, covering almost two quarters of his face, sat smoking what only people of his age and side could call a hookah. His eyes were firmly focussed towards the door, although there wasn‘t one. In the dark of the room and gloom of the atmosphere, someone else lay lifeless on a bamboo cot beside him. The only thing imparting life to the entire episode was a plastic wrapper stuck in the hay stack outside, swinging vigorously with the warm loo winds. Seeming to be motivated by the wrapper, the old man suddenly turned into life and started walking. The amount of time he took to stand, generally makes stock brokers skip a beat in their routine days, but he got going. Looking determined. Alok had lived in the same dwelling all his life. His name was considered a breakaway since those days you had to remember names of all children of the highborns only to consider a lower ‗ranked‘ name for your child, for his side of the margin. He had always taken pride in the fact that he could carry all his possessions with him wherever he went. Those few were they. His parents always said that he could even survive the societal system of a century ago. He didn‘t bother to make sense out of it but always smiled. He had a customized sack, for the only reason of allowing him the luxury of sitting wherever he wished to. Had it not been for the sack, he would have been an incomplete person. It could well steal away all the credits from the Mahabharata, Ramayana and school lessons. I hope the people who sat along with him, all through these years, watching the shows on the same Oscar TV set had also learned and not been mute spectators. The lectures had all but taught him to be nonpartisan. I still recall his smile upon meeting my eyes while coming back from school, which was some 10 miles away, that too without slippers. In fact, I had never seen that smile of his fade away, at least not through the summers. Every year I would notice an evident rise in his persona, something which drew ire of all my fellow marginers, as even highborns could be seen seeking help for some thing or the other. He had a small transistor with him, which wasn‘t in order at the time his father had got as a reward for good harvest by one of my side of the marginers. He preserved it for two years until he could repair it on his own. Why couldn‘t he discover the key to repair everything, including his fate and my people‘s minds? His inquisitiveness had taken him to observe and practise a few electronic devices Page 13

KIAMS including the computer. There had been very few technological centres and systems in and around Azamgarh. A few madrasas had by this time modernised and had forged a strong technology connection. Dual constraints of money and inadequacy of centres had rendered it impossible for him to access learning sources. He had thus frequented the modernised madrasas for quenching his intellectual and technological thirst. His mother had been chronically ill, and of the many things his family was devoid of, the most cardinal was money. He had been using internet to the best of his ability to prolong her age. Blend of modern technology, homely ingredients and astute brain was doing wonders. I hear he had even helped a few highborns suggesting medicine for particular ailments, and had been more effective than the quacks. I am barely able to keep my eyes open. A kid has just handed me the paper that had been blown away. Alok Kumar, 1st Division, 86.2%. Did this have a part in what had transpired? His love for technology, with the desire to experiment had landed him at my house the other day. Ravi, my cousin had asked him to check the out of order television, yes the same one someone had received as ‗gift‘ for his marriage. As fate would have it, the naïve repairman didn‘t just get a few things messed up. With one solder, the set burst into flames and so did the ire of my marginers. Ravi backed out like many others. Caught was the guy with more than a few unrecognizable stuff in his bag. Quick to realize its offshoots, he could think of nothing but running away, hoping to check for repair elsewhere. He had been sitting beside the only cot in his shack with hands on the bed looking as broken as any soul could. The old man sat at the corner of the room, knees to his chest, smoking inanimately, when suddenly scores of people entered the shack, getting hold of him and dragging him as vociferously as they could. The banyan tree which had been witness to all the poetry, all the pre-independence bravado this land had produced in the past was to host something which would have this land ashamed for generations. The charges were many, and stark. They accused him of stealing, trying to dupe my cousin and run away with possessions. Possibly even plot a blast as someone had pointed out his madrasa connection.

Page 14

KIAMS ―Everyone knows what happens in a madrasa here. See how this rascal has tried to avenge and dupe. A Cheat. A Thief. Hatching a plot to blast my house. We found a lot of doubtful stuff in his bag.‖ ―Burn him.‖ Someone yelled. ―Hand him over to the people. They‘ll chop him to pieces and send a piece to each of his people so that no one dares to take up to technology. Don‘t they know who it is for? Learning to make bombs in the madrasas, on a computer? Trying to learn science to fool us? When God himself didn‘t change anything when he was here, it means he didn‘t want to. Accept your fate.‖ With this, the boy was let go and he fell from the raised platform, down to the standing villagers, seeking his custody in raging aspirations. It had only taken 10 minutes for years of build-up to get over. My people would no longer have to tolerate his pleasing smile, they wouldn‘t have to keep denying the fact that a lowborn is smarter than their kids, who has adopted to technology when his kids have struggled to, who has topped the district when his children have flunked all ends up. So this was meant to be the pacifier for the future, a noble deed for the community. Who owns technology, the internet? I recall these questions made by a professor of mine in class. If I could meet him now, I would burst out laughing. Poor guy, didn‘t have an answer to the simplest of questions. Even these semi-literate villagers knew the obvious. We who rule. We highborns. We, ‗the‘ we. I had the marksheet in one hand and a book in the other, which ironically read, ―The Joy of Science.‖ The one person most worthy of flipping through its pages had evaded me, had evaded the world. I wish I had been a child with the same summer breaks, I wish I had been here a day before. I could have saved the face of my people and so may lives With blurry eyes, I could see an old man leaning over a thick stick trying to walk towards us. He was the rightful claimant of the person lying in front of me, lifeless. I could now realize how the threats of my people had deterred the old man from mustering courage to claim his only child‘s body even after 24 hours.

Page 15

KIAMS I couldn‘t face the old man, I couldn‘t tell him that somewhere distantly deep down, I was his culprit. I had made the boy dream of technology, I had shown him what an electronic device could do, and I had been the one to be so exhilarated in choosing a book before each of my summer vacations to gift him. I wish I had never spent my summer vacations here. Lost, I walked on. Two bodies sought refuge but four souls had been soiled. Forever. Battle of National Sport

: Winning Strategies

It was regular morning for Aishwarya, she was getting ready for the school and then something happened which confused all the family members. It was the response from Union ministry of youth affairs on the RTI filed by a ten-year-old girl, Aishwarya Parashar, stating that Hockey Is Not Our Nationa Game and ministry did not find any order or notification saying hockey is the national game of India. Even I am confused, why my teachers taught me wrong and why all GK books mention it as National game then? After an extensive secondary research, I could find out how Hockey became The National Game of India and how the game in the history of which India is the most successful country, is struggling to get fame and viewers. The peak time (Golden period) of Indian hockey team was from 1928 to 1956. All the six Olympic Golds were brought to home by our hockey champions. In this phase India played 24 matches and won all of them. It was the only sport which people used to listen on radio and read in newspaper thus gained popularity as patriotic feelings were already on high among Indians. Thus it was considered as ‗Our Game‘,‘The National Game of India‘, however Govt. failed to document it. After the independence some key players who were Anglo Indians moved to Australia, Introduction of Astroturf (artificial green turf) in game‘s standards (on which even today, Indian players get to play at the age of 20) and with the death of star player Dhyan Chand this glory came to an end. In 2015, though branding hockey is not an impossible task but not easy as well. Let‘s look at the different Dimensions where we lack and can build up our branding strategies. Dimension 1: Parents and Upbringing 

First sport‘s instrument given to any child is not hockey stick but that yellow plastic Page 16

KIAMS

 

cricket bat and red plastic ball, remember? Hockey is a tough game to play, played with heavy cork balls which increases the chances of injury thus parents do not allow children to play hockey Even if child loves to play hockey and can play good game, parents wouldn‘t allow to take it as an option for bread and butter as there is not enough money in the hockey

Dimension 2: Human psychology, Branding, Marketing & Promotion, Endorsements 

 

During the golden period of hockey, radio and newspaper were the only mass communication mediums however when in 1980‘s TV sets started penetrating in the society, India started losing hockey and winning cricket. In 1983 India won the cricket world cup and glory continues till now while hockey won the last gold medal in 1980 Moscow Olympics. o Hockey is not seen and broadcasted as exclusively as Cricket because when people started watching any game sitting in front of the only TV in the village, it was cricket and not hockey. o Thus according to the Indian mentality ―Jo Dikhta Hai Wo Bikta Hai‖, Cricket gets sold way more than hockey Format of 70min play with no advertisements allows less chance of promotion to the advertisers Lower fan following leads to lower sponsorships which leads to less involvement of money which leads to little endorsements by film stars and famous personalities

Dimension 3: Government Policies and Infrastructure facilities 

Till the date, there are 42 cricket stadiums in India and only 19 for hockey (8 built after 2000)

Issues between Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) backed World hockey series (WSH) and Hockey India League backed by Hockey India (HI) and recurring conflicts between federation and players demoralising potential talent

Green grass is actual hockey surface to play which tests the skills of the players and not just the strength. We are good in strength but not in skills as our players play on green turf at the age of 19-20

Page 17

KIAMS

Dimension 4: Functional attributes and Society   

Unlike cricket, hockey can‘t be played anywhere Hockey is a costly game, it needs 20 sticks, Goal keeper‘s equipment etc. which makes it costly compare to Cricket (1 bat and ball) and football (1 football) Even for the schools it is difficult to organise hockey training for students as now a days schools doesn‘t have enough infrastructures and getting Hockey Coaches is very difficult

Hockey has just got the Midas touch of Marketing & glamour because of Hockey India League.

Strategies

Authorities who can take up monetary & functional responsibility

Hedonic Approach: Where we can use emotional factors HIL team owners to brand hockey. E.g. Stories with (respective states); historica l winning footages, state specific league ads showing success Broadcasting Channels; stories of state players and state teams, Ads connecting various League Association Cultures ,Independence time stories partners; i.e. how hockey united all the religions and states during 1928Hockey India 1956 etc. Page 18

KIAMS Utilitarian Approach: Where we use functional attributes of the sports. Both approaches will help leagues to get viewer base in short duration. Local to State Tournaments Organising local tournaments including inter/intra institutional events which goes to state level subsequently. This will create awareness and interest thus will brand hockey at root level Guerilla Marketing Innovative and catchy ways to create buzz e.g. Big hockey stick in the famous areas of the district cities, Hockey shape holding chains in local buses & trains etc. Social media Story platforms, Players sensational promotion, Engaging image-videos Mass Engagement Events Competitions for Hockey Anthem songs, T shirt designs or Best supporters/style etc. Aid to Institutions (Long Term Strategy) Financial aid, Grants, Accreditations to the institutions who include Hockey in institution‘s sports

KIAMS Will TQM bring revolution in Indian Market

Before we decided to write this article we went about conducting our own survey to understand the minds of Indian consumers. Standing in one of the crowded markets of Pune we randomly asked these questions to people 1. 2. 3. 4.

Nike or Bata? Zara or Globus? Ford or Maruti? Ferrero rocher or Amul chocolate?

We told them that money should not be considered as one of the decision making factors and their decision should purely be based on what they desire to own. Almost 87% people chose foreign brands over the Indian ones. When we further asked them their reasons, they vehemently responded by saying it was all about better quality. We had hit the nail on the head. Even today a lot of us live under the mindset that Indian brands fall behind the foreign ones when weighed against quality. Indian brands are still struggling to create that kind of image in the minds of consumers. Yes, we do buy Indian brands but more so because they are economically viable and not because they are of better quality. This got us to focus into this critical issue of Total Quality Management (TQM) Quality is a word that is used quite commonly to decide upon the worth of a product. It is in fact one of the most decisive factors. Thus, it is very crucial for us to understand the concept of total quality management and the kind of impact it has on organizations today. Post globalization Indian markets opened up to international competition. Today companies aim to gain competitive advantage by achieving market superiority over its competitors. To gain this competitive advantage and to add value to their customers it is essential for companies to learn the nuances of TQM like improve product quality, increase speed of delivery of service, eliminate unproductive labour, ensure consistency, better management practices, increase the learning curve of an organization, delight the customers by providing total customer service as well as complete satisfaction. Through these practices companies aim at increasing their market share and build their brands in the due course of time to become market leaders. DEFINITION OF TQM " A system of management based on a commitment to the customer's total satisfaction understanding and improving the organizations processes, employee involvement and data based decision making" – MARK D.HANN TQM can be defined as " an organization wide effort to develop systems, tools, techniques, skills and the mindset to establish a quality assurance system that is responsive to the emerging market needs" – B.MAHADEVAN

Page 21

KIAMS These definitions help us understand TQM in a broader perspective. Every organization tweaks this definition to fit it into its framework, but the overall objective remains the same – to deliver high quality products and services that add value to the customers and help in the growth of an organization. Formation of TQM in India In the early 1980's, confederation of Indian industries (CII) took the initiative to set up TQM practices in India. In 1982 quality circles were introduced for the first time in India. The companies under which the quality circles were launched were Bharat Electronics Ltd, Bangalore and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Trichy. In 1986 CII invited professor Ishikawa to India, to address Indian Industry about quality. In 1987, a TQM division was set up with the CII. This division had 21 companies that agreed to contribute resources to it and formed the National committee on quality" In February 1991 an Indian company with assistance of the CII, obtained the first ISO 9000 certification in India. In 1996, the Govt. of India announced the setting up of quality council of India. A national agency for quality certification was also setup as a part of WTO agreement. CONCEPTS OF THE TQM PHILOSOPHY The specific concepts that make up the philosophy of TQM are: 1. Customer Focus: Quality is defined as meeting or exceeding customer expectations. The goal of management should be to identity and meet the customers' needs. Therefore quality is customer driven. Customer focus keeps the business competitive in every level of market change. 2. Continuous Improvement: One of the powerful TQM philosophies is the focus on continuous improvement. Continuous improvement is called kaizen by the Japanese and companies try to adhere to it as much as possible. It is essential for them to evaluate their performance and take measures to improve it. 3. Employee Empowerment: This is to empower all employees to seek out quality problems and correct them. Today workers are empowered with decision making power to decide quality in the production process, their contributions and suggestions are held in high regard by the organization. 4. Use of Quality Tools: For Identification of quality related issues employees should be trained with quality tools to identify the possible issues and to correct problems. To build quality the company's product design must meet customer's expectation. Quality function deployment is a tool used to translate the preferences of customers to specific technical requirements, it enables us to view the relationships among the variables involved in the design of a product, such as technical versus customer requirements. Page 22

KIAMS 6. Process Management: Under TQM quality of a product comes through continuous quality process. The new concept of quality focuses on identifying quality problems at source level and correcting them rather than discarding the product. 7. Managing Supplier Quality: This philosophy of TQM extends to the concept of quality to suppliers and ensures that they engage in the same quality practices. If suppliers meet preset quality standards, materials do not have to be inspected upon arrival. Today many companies have a representative residing at their supplier's location, there by involving the supplier in every stage from product design to final production. INDIAN CONTEXT India has become one of the most attractive destinations for investment owing to favourable government policies and reforms in the past few months. According to the World Economic Outlook (WEO) report released by International Monetary Fund (IMF), growth in India is expected to rise to 6.4 per cent in 2015 as both exports and investment will increase. Mr Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, has launched the 'Make in India' initiative with the aim to give the Indian economy global recognition. This initiative is expected to increase the purchasing power of the common man, which would further boost demand, and hence spur development, in addition to benefiting investors. Taking note of these developments Indian companies have the opportunity to grow and make a mark for themselves in the global markets. Incorporating and imbibing the values of TQM would become a matter of need rather than a choice. The bigger problem is dealing with the mindset of consumers, not just in India but world over. Research indicates that North American and European consumers associate brands from emerging markets as being of poor quality, unreliable and cheap. Furthermore the cost of marketing to end consumers in these countries is prohibitive for most emerging market brands like that of ours. This myth needs to be broken. Some of the famous Indian brands which have stood the test of quality are renowned all over the world for their excellence and customer satisfaction. Let‘s take the example of Titan Edge which is known to be the slimmest water resistant watch in the world. Swiss which masters the art of watch making deemed it impossible, but it was with the efforts of Xerxes Desai, the then managing director of Titan Watch Industries in 1994 that this dream was made possible. Extensive research gave way to coming out with the prototypes which were then sent for testing to Chronofiable SA, Switzerland, a world renowned independent Horological Testing Agency. There the watches were subjected to a series of stringent tests spread over a period of eight weeks. After these tests, the Titan Edge was certified as not just reliable but also water resistant up to thirty meters. Titan Edge stands as an example of quality par excellence. It takes pride in being an Indian brand which made its mark merely by adhering to the principles of TQM along with a vision and will to succeed in the global markets.

Page 23

KIAMS INSIGHTS TQM encourages a strategic approach to management at the operational level by involving multiple departments across functional improvement and systemic innovation processes. It provides high return on investment through improved efficiency. Even though it proves advantageous it has its own share of drawbacks. The high cost of implementing a TQM program, and the fact that it may take several years for the program to be fully implemented before results and benefits are seen, can be a huge disadvantage to a TQM program, especially in today‘s uncertain economic conditions. Also the stringent regulations that need to be satisfied may also curb a company from making any breakthrough innovations or think of radical solutions, since the scope to go beyond the specified framework is limited. So answering the question of whether TQM will bring revolution to the Indian Markets is debatable. Organizations need to take a calculated decision weighing all the pros and cons as well as their strengths and weaknesses. If a balance can be achieved of being innovative yet not compromising on quality standards then nothing can beat the Indian brands from growing and reaching the pinnacle of excellence and quality.

KIAMS CAREER OPTIONS IN OPERATIONS

Let me introduce myself, Saurab Jadav, I am working as a procurement specialist in an US based MNC. Procurement is one of the streams of supply chain. ―Procurement‖ is the overarching function that describes the activities and processes to acquire goods and services. Importantly, procurement involves the activities that are concerned with establishing the fundamental requirements, sourcing activities such as market research, vendor evaluation and negotiation of contracts. It also includes purchasing activities like ordering and receiving of goods etc. As an MBA (Operations) student, we are always focusing on improving the bottom margin. Procuring source materials in an efficient manner is one of the ways to improve Sales. Many people often make fun of Procurement saying it‘s not a strategic area. Most have wrong notion that it‘s a generic function. I disagree to this. I will explain why I disagree to the above said beliefs. Procurement is responsible for both optimizing costs and reporting on any savings achieved, and delivering more tangible benefits to the business. These include: negotiating multi-million pound contracts, enabling the introduction of innovative processes and managing major off shoring operations. Despite of extensive opportunities, there remains a shortage of talented graduates looking forward to enter into this profession. The sheer variety of sectors that procurement comes into contact with makes it appealing to all those who are looking for new challenges. Procurement is predominantly an outwards focused you collaborate with individuals from various sectors, gaining a wealth of cross-industry experience. Procurement can also offer a wide variety of different projects. Some may require a focus on analytics and delivering rapid cost savings, others may call for a more hands-on approach. Examples range from benchmarking marketing agencies to designing more effective supply chains systems. Nowadays big companies, irrespective of the sectors they belong to are targeting the bottom-line. They want to operate with lowest cost and maximum satisfaction. In such a scenario, the role of an operations specialist comes into picture. Operations management is not confined to just one process but it is related to multitude processes - improving efficiency, eliminating wastage are some areas in which an operations guy works. Now I will summarize what I do. I am working in a US based MNC as a Procurement specialist. We procure parts for companies like IBM, NCR etc. These companies used the parts procured from us for manufacturing their electronic components. As these companies are big their stakes are also high. They are very rigid in terms of supply of parts. The part has to be exactly in the shape and form as prescribed by them. Even a supply of one wrong part or faulty part can cause huge damage. Since this is a specialized area, they outsource the work to procurement companies Page 25

KIAMS like us. We take care of procuring and supplying the parts. We have to find the vendor, deal with them and most importantly ensure that the parts reach the client on time. Now I say the entire process need to be strategically designed and planed. For students who want to join or take up a supply chain profile, here are the skills you require to develop and hone them:

You will need to be able to demonstrate a wide variety of skills including a good business sense, financial management, a flair for communication and negotiation; an understanding of the global market place, creativity and innovation.

In today‘s strategic procurement environment, the most successful individuals combine traditional purchasing skills with good relationship management skills - listening, understanding, communicating and empathy.

Traditional procurement skills, such as financial management, contract management, cost reduction and basic negotiation will always be fundamental to the procurement process.

The current relationship between partners (suppliers) is relatively equal in terms of the relationship. The buyer and supplier work together right from the start of the relationship to share information, training, support, technical input and ideas in order to reduce the total overall cost. At the same time the buyer also needs to work closely with internal customers to ensure their needs are met and to gain their buy-in to the process.

So finally, all I would like to say is that the operations field is as vast as a sea. You should be careful about which area or vertical you are entering into within the operations field. It offers a lucrative career even though I admit it takes time. A career in an operations field is very promising in the Indian as well as International context. By Mr. Saurab Jadav Alumnus

KIAMS CAREER ASPECTS OF LOGISTICS

As we all aware that Logistics is the backbone of economy for any country. While I am attending one of my class I remember one statement that ―Roads of USA is not good because America is rich, USA is rich because of their roads‖. Logistics is the management of the flow of things between the origin point and the point of consumption to fulfill the customer requirement. The complexity of logistics can be modeled, analyzed, visualized, and optimized by dedicated simulation software. The role of logistics is starts just after the purchase of raw material by transporting, storing, etc. Logistics is one of the most important career fields in the world because every company uses logistics. Even though full-time logistics managers may not be employed. The work of a logistician begins with bringing in the supplies and raw materials necessary for a business or organization to operate. KIAMS Impact Interview Sarthak Foundation- Making an Impact Mohit Swarnakar & Hemanth Sanjay Prabhu We have often heard people talk about the youth of this country and their irresponsible behavior, often have we been accused of leading a lifestyle that goes against the Indian culture and our way of life. We are termed as a selfish generation who only think of securing their future and nothing else. This issue Chanakya is proud to bring to our readers an NGO which has been successful in proving that the youth of this great country is ready to take charge and make changes. ―Sarthak foundation‖, is an NGO run by young employees whose sole purpose is to provide to society more qualified and educated youngsters. This organization has started educating the underprivileged and downtrodden young kids of the slums in U.P and its volunteers today are looked upon as angles by these children. This foundation doesn‘t only look after educating these young children but also gives them hope of a better future and tries to bring back joy into their lives. These ―Sarthis‖ as the volunteers like to call themselves are actually young employees from different organizations with the will to serve. When spoken to this is what they had to say

Q) What is ―Sarthak Foundation‖? The word ―Sarthak‖ means fulfillment or one whose life‘s ambition has been attained. Sarthi is a Hindi word for Charioteer. A Sarthi drives you, guides you and holds your hand when you need a direction in your life. Sarthak Foundation is a non-profit organization working to provide quality education to children who cannot afford it. We are based in Lucknow, India.

Q) How was it initiated? Initially, when we started working on 'Educate A Child' project under Sarthak Foundation, there were three of us. Most of the members of our team belong to Amity some way or other. So we used to come across these beggar children near the malhaur railway crossing. Page 32

KIAMS Then we decided to start teaching these children from crossing and that's how we started our first open study centre in Malhaur Basti. We found out that our joy was in this form of service, by becoming a Sarthi, you will give the kids the hope to realize their dreams that they have just started seeing for themselves. Become their hope - become their Sarthi - Help them study.

Q) Can you tell us something about your team? Sarthak has a young team and the members come from various backgrounds. We have management graduates, engineers, fashion designer and trainers in our team. Everyone works with a lot of zeal and zest towards accomplishing the goal. The team members work on a voluntary basis and give their maximum input for the best output. Q) What exactly is the purpose of your organisation? How do you achieve it? Education though a necessity has sadly become a luxury in a country like India. Unfortunately, a large number of children do not have access to this luxury. Education helps in making people informed. It gives a voice and thought to an individual. Lack of education makes children vulnerable to crime, poverty and other social evils. We basically go to the slums, identify the children nearby and start teaching them. Before starting, we divide them into two groups depending on their level of knowledge: A- Tender Feet (Those who have never been introduced to any sort of education) B- Advancers (those who have dropped out or those who attend government schools). Then we start teaching them basics of English, Maths, General Awareness, basic manners, hygiene and these things. We plan to teach them till their primary education and then get them admitted to main stream schools depending on their capabilities. If we plan to take it in bullet points, then we:     

Identify non-school going children from the under-privileged section of the society. Provide informal education (Open Study Center) to children who cannot get admitted to schools because of financial constraint and help them eventually get admission. Provide tutorials to the admitted children to help them cope up with the course curriculum. Conduct a combination of virtual and face-to-face classes to reach a larger number of children. Focus on holistic development of the children by conducting hobby sessions, sports activities, and talent competitions. Page 33

KIAMS 

Increase their awareness about matters related to health, hygiene, nutrition and environment.

Yep, that about sums it up (he laughs).

Q) How do you feel your organization is serving the nation? There's no doubt that one country can never be perfect and developed leaving its Children and Education behind. These Children And their education are the foundation of the nation. We are trying to do our bit by spreading education as far as possible. We haven't achieved soaring heights yet we are working in the direction and we dream of a nation which is full of such sweet and educated children who are not at all deprived of anything. Q) How can one help your organization? Being an organization based on individual helping hands, one can always come forward and lend a helping hand. One can sponsor an individual child's education or a whole study center for one year at least. Other than that, we are looking forward to get introduced to some corporate for their CSR tie up, in which anyone can help us. Besides these, one can always volunteer at our centers in teaching on regular basis. Ahh.. I am sorry for such long answers. I just couldn't cut it any shorter. I think i can write a short book on Sarthak and its kids. Q) Would you like to send any message to our readers? We believe that children are the foundation of any society. Sadly, more than half of our country's children below 14 years of age do not go to school. Most of these children are not Page 34

KIAMS able to go to school because of financial constraints. As per the official data (7th All India Education Survey 2002 conducted by NCERT), the drop-out-of school rate is higher than 50% in class III to V. At a very young age children are being forced into social evils like child labour and begging. Sarthak believes that to function as a respectable & contributory member of the society, educating underprivileged children becomes paramount. As a responsible citizen of the society, it becomes our fundamental duty to strive to provide the deprived sections with this essential resource. All you have to do is to let go of one cup of coffee in a cafe or one dress in a mall or one movie ticket and you can contribute in educating a child.

The Chanakya wishes Sarthak all the best for its future endeavors and looks forward to helping and supporting them.

KIAMS My Internship Experience AMAL RAJ B17 KIAMS A person aspiring to enter in management profession must have practical knowledge of the subject. The objective of industrial training is to develop practical knowledge in student as a supplement to the theoretical study of management in general as well as industrial. It provides foundation to students intending to pursue a career in this field. I spent my two months internship in Amul. I couldn‘t be more grateful for having received this chance. My topic for SIP was ‗Demand estimation of Amul products in the city of cochin. I had an opportunity to study about the distribution analysis and suggest 5 areas where Amul scooping parlours can be opened. The industrial training is the most exciting experience of the education. Every person needs some changes from the routine education. As I am student of management and the future manager, the training play vital role in my education. Because of the industrial training I have knowledge of industrial environment and I felt hat this would be the part of my life. I become conscious that I am the manager of future and I should also learn how to solve managerial problem and fulfil others requirement at the time. The importance of an internship experience cannot be overstated. A college education will serve to propel a graduate into a profession by conferring a degree, which demonstrates an academic proficiency in various theoretical and practical examples of ways that a job might be performed. An internship makes the classroom‘s abstract theories and learned examples concrete by placing the student in a real life work situation with real live co-workers performing actual professional tasks, which the job encompasses I got to know and learn so many things when I was in Amul. While starting my internship work I had one basic aim in my mind and that was to know everything about the company, how sales are carried out, how distribution network works and to understand and know the market and the marketing methods adopted and implemented by the company and not to restrict myself to one specific tasks. As it was my first internship I was excited and apprehensive. But all my apprehensions never came into being as I was fortunate enough to work under the direct mentorship of the sales and marketing head of Amul–cochin. I made sure that I could come up with best of my abilities whenever I took a tasks. In the first week of my internship I was completely in surveys and analysis of different markets and customers. I started of my work with customer feedback surveys of Amul products. I got an idea about how Amul as a company reaches its customers. After collecting details from customers I started working with different distributors. I got an opportunity to work with the salesperson of a distributor, through which I could understand how the distribution channel performed in Cochin. Experience may not be the only thing inters are earning. Internships provide students with the opportunity to explore a field of interest in a real-world environment. But experience in the working world may not be the only thing these student interns are earning. When you do an Page 36

KIAMS internship, you're in a different world than the campus. Even if you've worked before, an internship might be your first chance to work with people who are experienced in your chosen field. There are many things which I would like to take back with me after my internship with Amul. I understood how sales and distribution was carried out in the company. How to communicate in an industry. How to talk and deal with the customers. How to do marketing and promotion. How to reach out to the market and customers. How and where to find out potential customers and so on. The industry experience and exposure that I received during my internship will always be a valuable guide for me in the future. Amul as a brand, its quality and trust made itself stand apart in its sector. My internship had been one of the most fruitful experiences a trainee would wish to have in his/her lifetime. Internship in Amul not only gave me an experience required to face the industry competition but also gave me some really good teacher that I will cherish for my entire lifetime. The amount of dedication and professionalism I saw in the employees working with Amul really boosted and encouraged me a lot. The sales person with which I worked in the field taught me how to promote and capture the targeted market to improve the sales in a particular area. I had three distributors in my area to cover upon in which all of them helped me with their informations and gave me different inputs to work in the market. This helped me plan my routine daily work schedules. To work with the company owned scooping parlours and Amul preferred outlets was another experience I got. Amul as a brand is well accepted in the market by every customer. It is known for its quality and trust and I got to know about the interest of customers when I surveyed customers. The experience I went through cant only be encrypted in two pages. As an individual I feel that I am a part of the big brand Amul and the proud feel I could infer from this was amazing. In great esteem and indebt gratitude I would like to thank my company guide Mr Dennis Daniel who literally spared no pains in helping me out round the clock in the successful completion of my project work. I feel very fortunate to get such an encouraging guide who continuously counselled me and helped me accomplish my project well in time. Last but not the least, I take this opportunity to thank other people who helped me through this entire journey extremely pleasurable. I personally express my immense pleasure and gratitude for giving me an opportunity to share my views and experiences in working with Amul in successfully completing my summer internship project.

THANK YOU

India's economic growth to surpass China's in 2015-16 India's economic growth is projected to surpass that of China's, with the GDP expected to zoom by 7.7 per cent in 2016, according to a UN report which said India will help accelerate economic growth in South Asia. The mid-year update of the UN World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP), released today, said India's economy is projected to grow by 7.6 per cent this year and 7.7 per cent in 2016, overtaking China. China is projected to grow by 7 per cent in 2015 and 6.8 per cent next year. The report termed South Asia's economic outlook as "largely favourable" since most economies are expected to experience a strengthening of growth in 2015-16 on the back of stronger domestic consumption and investment, and a pick-up in exports. The region's GDP is projected to grow by 6.7 per cent in 2015 and 6.9 per cent in 2016, up from an estimated 6.3 per cent in 2014--a significant revision of the previous forecast. "This revision mostly reflects a higher growth trajectory in India," it said. It said the growth prospects for Iran and Pakistan have also improved moderately, although for both countries significant uncertainties remain. Across South Asia, the expansion is expected to be driven by buoyant household consumption and a gradual recovery in investment. Private sector demand will be underpinned by a more benign macroeconomic environment, including considerably lower inflation. In 2015, global consumer price inflation is expected to average 2.5 per cent, the lowest level since 2009, With oil prices expected to recover slowly and global activity projected to pick up, average inflation is forecast to accelerate to 3 per cent in 2016. Average inflation in the region is also projected to fall to its lowest level in almost a decade, following the recent decline in oil and food prices. As a result, monetary policy has become more expansionary in several countries, notably in India and Pakistan, it said. However, despite the improved outlook, South Asia's economies face, to varying degrees, long-standing development challenges including energy shortages, infrastructure deficits and political and social unrest. The global economy will continue to grow at a modest pace. The UN report said growth of world gross product is projected to accelerate slightly from 2.6 per cent in 2014 to 2.8 per cent in 2015. In 2016, global growth is forecast to improve to 3.1 per cent but there are still considerable downside risks to the baseline forecast, related to the upcoming move towards monetary policy

Page 39

KIAMS normalisation in the US, ongoing uncertainties in the euro area, potential spillovers from geopolitical conflicts and persistent vulnerabilities in emerging economies. The overall subdued performance of the world economy since the global financial crisis has raised concerns of a "new normal" of lower growth, especially in view of a broad-based weakness in investment. In the United States, the economic recovery remains on track and the short-term outlook is relatively favourable, it said. Following strong expansions in the second and third quarter of 2014, growth has, however, slowed noticeably. The weak performance in early 2015 can be attributed to less investment in the energy sector, disturbances to international cargo shipping and bad weather. BY: Deepak Chaturvedi PGDM 2

KIAMS FUNNY SIDE OF MANAGEMENT WORLD If sometimes we just sit and think we can find humor in everything. It has its presence everywhere in its own way and I feel it‘s not just the humor but it‘s the creativity of once mind that can see all kind of funny things in everything. So here I take you to the world of management where if you see things are weirdly funny but creative too. It all begins with the Education deficiency syndrome which normal people say as Career and to add a flavor of maniac, our parents are always there for it. It‘s a funny world where the entry to the institution is through CAT an exam which in normal dictionary term means a mammal. There is another entry level round for various institution called as Group discussion but actually it turns up to replicate a parliamentary meeting where you can see the live opinions on the current burning issues to be addressed like RBI policies, Empowerment of women, elections, India and China in a nutshell etc. which at the end are somehow better addressed than actually they are. Wait the story does not end here it‘s just the trailer, the movie is yet to be start. Once you are selected by some institution to be grilled for next two years mentally and monetarily, the first thing that is taught when you enter the institute is time management but in practicality it is a roller coaster ride of time pressure building exercise. You are flooded with subjects which drive you crazy and pushes you to think in a way you have never thought before or out of the box which actually is nothing but applying your bit of common sense to what you have practically experienced till now. You analyze case studies in many subject which you may feel at point are senseless because rather than helping you to gain insights about how to approach, many a times just leads you to more confusion and at the end you end up giving some kind of theory discovered in the class itself. Every day you are lined up with different kind of presentation which according to the institute is to make you ready for the corporate world but actually it is a practice for you to be in formals for the whole day and delivery your work with accuracy with all the levels of discomfort. You are taught different kind of jargons in marketing, HR, finance etc. which if you think logically is just English. From childhood we have been taught that Apple and Mango are names of fruits but here in the world of management Apple is used for communication ( hardware & software) while Mango is worn ( famous Spanish apparel brand). You submit reports on various topics which at ground level not only showcases your talent but how good you can be at multitasking and googling. Along with things like stress management, time management, team building, leadership and confidence B-schools also gives you exposure to learn things like wearing a sari, eating junk food regularly but still maintaining yourself and keeping your room at sixes and seven. You come across various schools of thought in different subjects like psychology, marketing, economics etc. which ultimately proves to be a myth because whichever schools of thought you support or like in reality nothing seems to be applicable and more over even if we try doing we would definitely receive a pink slip which actually has nothing cheesy about its color but just a polite way to say that you are fired. The ―Philip Kotler‖ is considered as the bible for marketing Page 41

KIAMS students but, out of the odds one Sunday morning I saw a status on Facebook which said ―Whatever Kotler preaches actually is a lie‖ which drove me to the other side of the road and eventually I could form a perception that bookish world is easy but the corporate world is a different place all to be in. Apart from developing your soft skills and interpersonal skills MBA all teaches you how to eat in no time, how you can master your sleeping skills by keeping your eyes wide open and the best skill it teaches is how you can be on various social media during a lecture when you are at the peak of your break point and just the graph of your neuron frequency is going to overshoot. You get many opportunities to meet great people who have achieved a lot in life but when they address you it‘s always a positive aspersion that actually never clears your confusion but will definitely add to more of it. But it‘s always said that it is good to be different and good to be funny at times. So people who are already in this weirdly funny world proud to be a part of it and always keep discovering new stories.

KIAMS GREECE DEBT CRISIS

Greece became the focus of Europe‘s debt crisis after the Wall Street imploded in 2008. In Oct, 2009, the newly elected government abruptly revised the country‘s public deficits from 6% of GDP to 12.7%, which resulted in the loss of confidence in the global market. As a result many trusted financial rating agencies like Standards & poor‘s downgraded the credit ratings for the country that caused further financial problems for Greece. By 2010, Greece was turning towards bankruptcy. To avoid this financial crisis IMF (International Monetary Fund), the European Central Bank and the European Commission issued the first two international bailouts to Greece, totalling to about 240 billion euros. The bailout resulted into strict terms, which required Greece to take actions such as huge budget cuts & steep tax increase. It also required Greece to stream line its Government, ending tax evasions and making Greece an easier place to do business. Over the past six years, Greece has experienced an economic depression on the scale of that experienced by the United States in the 1930s. Its economy has contracted by around 25%, its unemployment rate has exceeded 25%, and its youth unemployment has risen to over 50%. At the same time, despite five years of budget austerity and a major write-down of its privately owned sovereign debt, Greece's public debt to GDP ratio has risen to 180%. At the heart of Greece's economic collapse has been the application of draconian budget austerity within a Euro straitjacket. That straitjacket has precluded exchange rate depreciation or the use of an independent monetary policy as a policy offset to the adverse impact of budget belt-tightening on aggregate demand. In other words, the debt crisis destroyed Greece's economy, which in turn destroyed Greece's ability to pay back its creditors or employ its people, which in turn forced Greece to beg the Eurozone and IMF for help and the austerity measures they demanded destroyed Greece's economy even more.

KIAMS Greece now faces a crisis that has severely damaged its economy & serves as a cautionary tale against governments careless spending‘s. Greece not only ignored the rule of accountable spending, the country also completely ignored the rules of responsible borrowing. The result is a huge loan that the country is unable to pay. Despite all of the austerity measures and bailouts, experts estimate that Greece may not reach financial stability until year 2020 or late.

How bad is the current situation? The situation is getting worst for Greece day by day as it owes Germany, France, Italy & Spain a total sum of €160 billion. The government also owes private investors within the country around €39 billion, and another €120 billion to institutions including Greek banks. Greece debt mounts to 180% of its GDP. Greece is now rushing down a path of disorderly exit from Eurozone, which could result in the country scrapping the euro and using alternative currency as early as August. How does it affect India? If the value of Euro goes down, the trade between the European countries & India would have a negative effect. The uncertainty for investors may push them towards investing in Gold or Dollar so as to be on the safer side. This would result in further strengthening the dollar as compared to Indian rupees, as a result making the exports cheap and imports more expensive. Likewise oil prices will also be affected. India's largest trading partner is the EU. Trouble there will affect India's exports. India exports nearly $40 billion every year to EU. World financial markets are closely linked. Just as kids in a class catch cold if just one kid gets it, financial markets get affected if one market goes down. Investors in US and elsewhere would pull money out of India and other "foreign" stocks for the losses in Greece [basic human psychology is that if we get into trouble with one person, we avoid everyone similar to them]. When investors pull money away, Indian stock markets will crash. That will affect Indian companies.

As the clock ticks by, the world waits anxiously of an approaching turbulence in the world economy. But whether or not it will turn into a chain reaction that may lead to a complete meltdown of the global economy is yet to be seen. BY Gaurang Vichare PGDM 2

KIAMS New world My world is my family, they are all I can count on, I have no clue what I would do when they are gone. Far away from them in a different city I stay, I can still hear my parents pray For my safety, for my happiness For my prosperity for my success Everything in my world seem unfamiliar It will take time for me to understand this world loud and clear This world has voices and noises that give me jitters, From inside its hollow but from outside its filled with glitters. I have been in this new world not for long, Still I feel so many seasons have gone. In my solidarity I sit and dream, Of the cream roles and the coffee with whipped cream My mother bestowed me all the love I didn‘t even deserve, Now all I m left is the lovely childhood memories to preserve. In our lifes we fail to realize that happiness lies in simple things Like the naughty smiles and the wicked winks In the hurry to become witty and wise We all forget growing up is just a curse in disguise As kids our happiness revolves around the seesaw and the swing All seasons bring new experience be it autumn or spring I wish I could just swing back to the yesteryear And hear my mother say ― here is your chocolate pudding on the table dear‖ I would run around the table and then run into the rain, I wish I could be that kid again, I wish I could be that kid again. Puri Rath Yatra: Behold the New Form of Lord Jagannath The most attention-grabbing religious festivals of India, Ratha Yatra or Chariot Festival is centered on the worship of Lord Jagannath, the savior of the world. Jagannath, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu is worshipped in Puri in a royal manner. In this festival, the incomplete statues of Lord Jagannath along with his elder brother Balabhadra and younger sister Subhadra is worshipped. Associated with several mysterious folk tales as well as myths, this religious festival has gathered attention of the religious souls from all over the world. Few details of Puri Rath Yatra: How is it celebrated? During this auspicious festival the three deities are taken to the Gundicha Temple which is believed to be the aunt‘s house of the trio. Three magnificent chariots are decked to carry the deities to the destination. The revered deities are believed to take rest in their aunt‘s house for a period of 9 days during which delicious dishes are offered to them. After 9 days the deities are resumed to the main temple. It is important to note that the designing of the chariot starts from the day of Vasant Panchami (January/February). When is it celebrated? One of the most awaited religious festivals in India, Ratha Yatra commences on the second day of new moon in the months of June/July. It takes place according to the dates and times of Hindu calendar. Where is it Celebrated? The hallowed city of Puri in Odisha is known across the country for the gigantic temple of Lord Jagannath and his chariot festival or Ratha Yatra. This joyous religious festival starts from the main temple of Lord Jagannath in Puri town, which is one and a half hour drive from Bhubaneswar. The chariots of the deities are taken to the Gundicha Temple situated in the other part of the city. What is the story behind? Ratha Yatra is celebrated all over Orissa, for Lord Jagannatha is one of the most revered deities there, but it‘s the Puri Ratha Yatra which is the most famous as it‘s the abode of the Lord himself. There is an interesting legend about the temple like most other temples of India. The story goes that Lord Jagannatha, literally meaning Lord of the World, was worshipped as ―Neela Madhab‖ by a tribal chief. The King of Puri, Indradyumna deputed a Brahmin priest Vidyapati to find the idols and worship in his palace. Vidyapati was taken to the cave blindfolded but he managed to mark the path with mustard seeds, which later became plants. The King along with Vidyapati went to the cave, but was unable to find the idol. Later the king had a dream in which Page 46

KIAMS the Lord instructed the king to make the idols out of the tree located near the sea shore. The king likewise instructed the celestial architect, Vishwakarma to carve the idol, on which Vishwakarma agreed, but subject to the condition that at no stage in his work would he be disturbed by anyone else. However Indradyumna‘s queen broke the rule out of curiosity and Vishwakarma, disappeared leaving the idols unfinished. That explains the peculiar design of the idols. The temple is built in typical Oriyan architecture style by King Ananta Barma Chodaganga Dev during the 12th century A.D. It‘s one of the tallest structures in India, measuring a height of 214 ft. from ground level. The temple is flanked by 4 gates Simha Dwara, Aswha Dwara, Gaja Dwara and the Tiger Gate. What is special about Ratha Yatra 2015?

This year (2015) the set of idols that is being worshipped in the temple got ―Nabakalebara‖ (means new incarnation). According to the traditional ritual of Jagannatha Temple, the set of idols in the temple needs to be changed after a certain period of time and this ritual is called Nabakalebara. This ritual has some in depth religious significance, but according to the experts, as the idols are carved out of Neem Wood, there are chances of their decay and that is why the Nabakalebara ritual takes place. There are strict religious instructions about the idol carving ceremony and about the selection of woods to be used for making the idols. After the idols are installed in the temple the ceremony of ―Nabajoubana Darshan‖ (paying homage to the new set of idols) take place. But this year for some reasons, the devotees can have a glimpse of the deities during Ratha Yatra only. The last Nabakalebara ceremony of Lord Jagannath was done in 1996. All the three chariots are made of wood and decorated by local artists. Lord Jagannath‘s Page 47

KIAMS chariot is the biggest of the three having 16 massive wheels and a height of 44 feet. While Lord Balabhadra‘s chariot has 14 wheels and a height of 43 feet followed by Goddess Subhadra‘s chariot having 12 wheels and a height of 42 feet. They are pulled manually by 50-metre long ropes, people rush to help pull the chariots as they believe that pulling the chariot earns them good deeds and penance for their errors. In Puri Rath Yatra, Lord Balabhadra‘s chariot is pulled first then Goddess Subhadra‘s followed by Lord Jagannath‘s. What to Expect? During the Ratha Yatra festival, the priests chant Vedic Mantras, a huge group of people sing songs, and exclusive musical instruments are played. Around lakhs of devotees gather around the temple and they pull the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra along with the chariot of their sister Subhadra which is tied with ropes that are too strong to pull those king size chariots. It is believed that the devotees who get a chance to touch the ropes are blessed with divinity. It is during the Ratha Yatra Festival only when Non-Hindus can have a glimpse of the deities. (Usually Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter into the temple of Lord Jagannath). Having a glimpse of Lord Jagannath on chariot or touching the chariot is considered very auspicious by all devotes. Before the chariots are pulled, we have the local Gajapati King of Puri, sweeping the chariots with a golden broom. This ritual symbolizes that the King is but a humble servant of Lord Jagannath. This is a famous ritual of the Yatra called as the Chhera Pahara. This ritual signifies that everyone is equal in the eyes of the Lord. Placing the idols in the Chariots itself takes a couple of hours but the enthusiasm of the devotees only rises. The chariots are then pulled along to the Gundicha Ghar, which is located at the other end of the Bara Danda. After a 7 day stay, the idols return back to the main temple in what is called as Bahuda Yatra. And finally on the 9th day, the idols are placed back in the Sanctum Sanctorum. On the way back, the procession halts at the Mausi Maa Temple (their aunt‘s abode) where the deities are served with Poda Pitha (a kind of a sweet pancake). It is a said to be a poor man‘s food which was a favourite of Lord Jagannath. The Puri Rath Yatra is the oldest and the grandest festival to take place every year in India. It dates back to the Hindu Puranas, having mentions in the Skanda Puran, Brahma Puran and Padma Puran. Apart from the religious affair, this Puri Rath Yatra greatly signifies the feeling of brotherhood that is present among the people who gather here inspite of coming from different social structures and parts of the world. When the British ruled India, they were fascinated by the energy and the enthusiasm of the Puri Rath Yatra festival that they referred it as Juggernaut meaning a huge vehicle which would crush anything that comes in its way because many pilgrims believe that dying under the Rath will attain them instant salvation. However, Juggernaut was derived from the word ―Jagannath‖. By: Sweta Bardhan, PGDM 2 Page 48

KIAMS 10 Mind-Bending Discoveries In Physics The study of physics is the study of the universe—and more specifically, just how the hell the universe works. It is without a doubt the most interesting branch of science, because the universe, as it turns out, is a whole lot more complicated than it looks on the surface (and it looks pretty complicated already). The world works in some really weird ways, to understand why, you only need a sense of awe to appreciate how. Here are ten of the most amazing things physicists have discovered about our universe: 1) Time Stops at the Speed of Light: According to Einstein‘s Theory of Special Relativity, the speed of light can never change—it‘s always stuck at approximately 300,000,000 meters/second, no matter who‘s observing it. This in itself is incredible enough, given that nothing can move faster than light, but it‘s still very theoretical. The really cool part of Special Relativity is an idea called time dilation, which states that the faster you go, the slower time passes for you relative to your surroundings. Seriously—if you go take a ride in your car for an hour, you will have aged ever-so-slightly less than if you had just sat at home on the computer. The extra nanoseconds you get out of it might not be worth the price of gas, but hey, it‘s an option. Of course, time can only slow down so much, and the formula works out so that if you‘re moving at the speed of light, time isn‘t moving at all. Now, before you go out and try some getimmortal-quick scheme, just note that moving at the speed of light isn‘t actually possible, unless you happen to be made of light. Technically speaking, moving that fast would require an infinite amount of energy. 2) Quantum Entanglement: Quantum entanglement is a special process that involves pairing up these particles in such a way that they become identical (marbles with the same spin and charge). When this happens, things get weird—because from now on, these electrons stay identical. This means that if you change one of them—say, spin it in the other direction—its twin reacts in exactly the same way. Instantly. No matter where it is. Without you even touching it. The implications of this process are huge—it means that information (in this case, the direction of spin) can essentially be teleported anywhere in the universe. 3) Light is Affected by Gravity: This one involves an idea called light deflection, which is exactly what it sounds like—the path of a beam of light is not entirely straight. Strange as that sounds, it‘s been proved repeatedly (Einstein even got a parade thrown in his honor for properly predicting it). What it means is that, even though light doesn‘t have any mass, its path is affected by things that do—such as the sun. So if a beam of light from, say, a far off star passes close enough to the sun, it will actually bend slightly around it. The effect on an observer—such as us—is that we see the star in a different spot of sky than it‘s actually located (much like fish in a lake are never in the spot they appear to be).

Page 49

KIAMS 4)

Dark Matter:

Physicists have some pretty accurate ways of measuring the total mass present in the universe. They also have some pretty accurate ways of measuring the total mass we can observe, and here‘s the twist—the two numbers don‘t match up. In fact, the amount of total mass in the universe is vastly greater than the total mass we can actually account for. Physicists were forced to come up with an explanation for this, and the leading theory right now involves dark matter—a mysterious substance that emits no light and accounts for approximately 95% of the mass in the universe. While it hasn‘t been formally proved to exist (because we can‘t see it), dark matter is supported by a ton of evidence, and has to exist in some form or another in order to explain the universe. 5) Our Universe is Rapidly Expanding: Here‘s where things get a little trippy, and to understand why, we have to go back to the Big Bang Theory. Before it was a TV show, the Big Bang Theory was an important explanation for the origin of our universe. In the most simple analogy possible, it worked kind of like this: the universe started as an explosion. Debris (planets, stars, etc) was flung around in all directions, driven by the enormous energy of the blast. Because all of this debris is so heavy, and thus affected by the gravity of everything behind it, we would expect this explosion to slow down after a while. It doesn‘t. In fact, the expansion of our universe is actually getting faster over time, which is as crazy as if you threw a baseball that kept getting faster and faster instead of falling back to the ground (though don‘t try that at home). This means, in effect, that space is always growing. The only way to explain this is with dark matter, or, more accurately, dark energy, which is the driving force behind this cosmic acceleration.

6)

All Matter is Just Energy:

It‘s true—matter and energy are just two sides of the same coin. In fact, you‘ve known this your whole life, if you‘ve ever heard of the formula E = mc^2. The E is for energy, and the m represents mass. The amount of energy contained in a particular amount of mass is determined by the conversion factor c squared, where c represents—wait for it—the speed of light. The explanation for this phenomenon is really quite fascinating, and it has to do with the fact that the mass of an object increases as it approaches the speed of light (even as time is slowing down). It is, however, quite complicated, so for the purposes of this article, I‘ll simply assure you that it‘s true. For proof (unfortunately), look no further than atomic bombs, which convert very small amounts of matter into very large amounts of energy.

7)

Wave-Particle Duality:

At first glance, particles (such as an electron) and waves (such as light) couldn‘t be more different. One is a solid chunk of matter, and the other is a radiating beam of energy, kind of. Its apples and oranges. But as it turns out, things like light and electrons can‘t really be confined to Page 50

KIAMS one state of existence—they act as both particles and waves, depending on who‘s looking. But there‘s concrete evidence that proves light is a wave, and other concrete evidence that proves light is a particle (ditto for electrons). It‘s just… both. At the same time. Not some sort of intermediary state between the two, mind you—physically both, in the sense that it can be either. Don‘t worry if that doesn‘t make a lot of sense, because we‘re back in the realm of quantum mechanics, and at that level, the universe doesn‘t like to be made sense of anyway.

8)

All Objects Fall at the Same Speed:

You would be forgiven for assuming that heavier objects fall faster than lighter ones—it sounds like common sense, and besides, you know for a fact that a bowling ball drops more quickly than a feather. And this is true, but it has nothing to do with gravity—the only reason this occurs is because the earth‘s atmosphere provides resistance. In reality, as Galileo first realized about 400 years ago, gravity works the same on all objects, regardless of their mass. What this means is that if you repeated the feather/bowling ball experiment on the moon (which has no atmosphere), they would hit the ground at the exact same time.

9)

Quantum Foam:

The thing about empty space, you‘d think, is that it‘s empty. That sounds like a pretty safe assumption—it‘s in the name, after all. But the universe, it happens, is too restless to put up with that, which is why particles are constantly popping into and out of existence all over the place. They‘re called virtual particles, but make no mistake—they‘re real, and proven. They exist for only a fraction of a second, which is long enough to break some fundamental laws of physics but quick enough that this doesn‘t actually matter (like if you stole something from a store, but put it back on the shelf half a second later). Scientists have called this phenomenon ‗quantum foam,‘ because apparently it reminded them of the shifting bubbles in the head of a soft drink.

10)

The Double Slit Experiment:

The double slit experiment is the most insane thing you‘ll read about all day, and it works like this—scientists set up a screen with two slits in front of a wall, and shot a beam of light through the slits so they could see where it hit on the wall. Traditionally, with light being a wave, it would exhibit something called a diffraction pattern, and you would see a band of light spread across the wall. That‘s the default—if you set up the experiment right now, that‘s what you would see.But that‘s not how particles would react to a double slit—they would just go straight through to create two lines on the wall that match up with the slits. And if light is a particle, why doesn‘t it exhibit this property instead of a diffraction pattern? The answer is that it does—but only if we want it to. See, as a wave, light travels through both slits at the same time, but as a particle, it can only travel through one. So if we want it to act like a particle, all we have to do is set up a tool to measure exactly which slit each bit of light (called a photon) goes through. Think of it like a camera—if it takes a picture of each photon as it passes through a single slit, then that photon can‘t have passed through both slits, and thus it can‘t be a wave. As a result, the interference pattern on the wall won‘t appear—the two lines will instead. Light will have acted Page 51

KIAMS STRESS

Sometimes we get addicted to keywords now days I come along with a keyword called stress, the reason for the addiction is our definition of stress, when I asked my guru , why do I feel stressed or how do I manage my stress , this is what he said : Stress management I guess the keyword itself is misused because we only manage things which are precious to us, our business our family we manage all these things because all these things are precious to us so why anybody could manage stress, fact here is we have taken stress as part of our life. Stress is not part our life stress is inability to manage our own system. everybody starting form a student to a CEO of company says there work is stress, 0 a person who is unemployed or doesn‘t do anything is also stressed, if you are suffering job now and leave your job to get rid of stress is this will help i guess the answer is no it means stress is not because of our job it is just that we don‘t how to manage our body, mind, emotions, energy we don‘t know how to manage anything. we are functioning by accident that‘s why everything is stressful, without understanding anything about our system just by chance we are going that‘s why our life is stress that means stress is not because of the nature of the activity that we are performing or because of life situations, stress is not situational it is just an inability to manage the inner situation and not the outer situation, essentially the quality of our life change and transform not because we change the content of our life but only because we have changed the context of our life, if someone living a beautiful life doesn‘t mean he is doing something different when he wakes up in the morning he also brushes his teeth he also does the same things but somehow his life is magical and beautiful because of the context, now changing the context is something which is voluntarily it‘s something one has to do wilfully, changing the content may not be possible as one can, because to change the content one needs to take permission in the situation he exists, but to change the context of life u they don‘t need anybody‘s permission. it‘s not at all situational on a certain day three man were working on one place another man came and asked what are you doing? first man said can‘t you see I‘m cutting stone are you blind, that man moved to next man asked what are you doing here that man looked up and said something, something to fill my belly I come here and do whatever they tell me to do I just have to fill my belly, he went to the third man asked him the same thing that man stood up in great joy and said I am building a beautiful temple here, all of them are doing the same thing but their experience of what they are doing worlds apart every human being every moment of his life could be doing whatever he is doing in anyone of these three context and that will determine the quality of his life not what he is actually doing how simple an activity you are doing or how complex an activity you are doing doesn‘t change quality of your life with what context are doing changes the quality of your life.

Happiness Accomplished! There is one step to create Happiness. It is to express Love. When you express the emotion of love you create happiness and joy within yourself. Happiness is not just the state of mind. It is rather a state of emotion. Happiness is cultivated when one expresses love in doing certain things irrespective of job, career, meeting friends and many more down the line. It is easy to overlook our critical role of expressing emotion in creating our happiness. We are inclined to think of our emotions as a response to people and material things. It happens when we tend give undue advantage to some people that she/he is responsible for our happiness. Like we do mention sometimes that ‗I am happy today because he/she came to meet me‘. The part which we simply ignore is the love and emotion we carry for that person for creation of our own happiness. We always tend to ignore that from where is that emotion coming from and we overlook it, yet the truth is what we created ourselves. We tend to perceive other people emotion but what we feel emotionally is from what we create. The person that visited is just a stimuli for us to create and express love from them. We may tend to enjoy from the emotion expressed for certain people, not because of them. It is often easier for us to love certain people as compared to other people around. This supports the false assumption that people are responsible to make us happy. The aspect our mind tends to ignores is that the beliefs and perception in our mind which enables us to express more love to some people as compared to other people in our surroundings. There are many things which seems to make us happy. Like if we are enjoying music, it is not just the music that we listen or enjoy. Rather, it is the expression of our love that particular music that creates joy and enjoyment. Likewise, if we are happy in our job or career, it is not the job individually responsible for the happiness. Rather, the expression of our love for what we do creates the experience of happiness. Suppose, if we are enjoying a beautiful day that has enormous amount of emotions, it is rather our love for the experience of the day that we are overwhelmed with. The question arises, ‗Do we create our own happiness and emotions?‘ The answer lies within. Think of a joyous moment in the past. Perhaps it is a person or an event that brings you great happiness. You can also think of an unhappy moment. The memory are triggers, but you are the one creating the emotions. Where and how you focus on attention and interpret an experience in your mind are the major factors in triggering what emotions you create. Over the years our mind has built a programme between outside triggers and emotions we express. If we win in certain situation we are joyful and if we lose we are disappointed. These are stimulus to withhold the expression of love. As long as you follow an artificial criteria in the mind your happiness is dependent on external factors. One factor common in all of us is that Page 54

KIAMS what others think of us or how do you look like. It is by satisfying a criteria in the mind that most people engage in The Pursuit of Happiness. People try harder and harder to win the situation and this is the reason why most of us have to chase the next criteria the minds comes up with. Truly lasting happiness is yours when you have the self-awareness to choose the criteria in your mind and change it. With self-realisation you are able to choose the emotion you express in each moment. Happiness is not a mystery to solve or a secret to be revealed in order to have experience of it. It is so simple that even a new born baby can express it without saying or explaining anything. Happiness is the feeling created by expression of your love coming out of you. When the love comes out of you, you are happy. How you feel is the outcome of emotions you create. The reasons we create different emotions at different point of time is because of belief in the mind that respond to different triggers. If we limit expressions of love by the assumption in the mind, we limit the happiness and joy in our life. Being aware that we create our emotions and that we can change the assumption in our mind is a big shift of responsibility and power over our happiness. Expressing love is one kind of Happiness. Our minds must be engaged in lot many assumptions that has to be fulfilled before we allow ourselves to be happy, but those can be changed. If we change those assumptions, we can express love for any and many reasons or even without a reason. We can express our love just because we enjoy the feeling of happiness and satisfaction it creates within oneself. This is not being selfish rather it is just doing for yourself what no one else can do for you.

KIAMS Change is inevitable

The story is about comparison of two Mice (simple thinker) who knows they want cheese every day for their nourishment and two humans (complex thinkers) who feels they have capability to think and past data reference will help them to find cheese. These fictions characters Micky (smells out early), Mini (who rushes out) & humans named Tom (denies changes), Jerry (adapts changes) will represent the simple and complex aspects of common human behaviour. The story is about ―search of cheese‖ which represents their basic goals and a source of daily nourishment. For Micky, Mini, Tom & Jerry situation begins with lots of cheese at house X, where all these four characters spend their time looking for their own special cheese. Every day Micky and Mini the mice using their simple brains and good instincts to search for the cheese they liked. Similarly Tom and Jerry use their complex brains (filled with false beliefs and emotions) to search their special cheese. Every morning both Micky & Mini used to start searching their special cheese in the house X by using simple trial and error method i.e. They ran down one corridor and if it is found empty they turned and ran down to another. In contrast to mice these humans Tom & Jerry used their ability to think and learn from past experiences. They believed on their complex brains to develop more methods for finding a cheese. Gradually they developed their routine. Micky & Mini used to wake up early every day run through the house X to enjoy cheese. While Tom & Jerry woke up little late and reached required position in house X for their special cheese. After all, they know where the cheese was and how to get there. But, didn‘t have any idea where the cheese comes from, they just assumed it would be always there. After some time, little people‘s confidence grew into over confidence. As time passed Micky & Mini continued with their routine, they arrived early each morning, inspecting the area to see if there had been any changes from the day before. One morning they arrived at House X and there was no cheese, they were not surprised since they have noticed the supply of cheese had been getting reduced day by day. They were prepared for the uncertainty. The mice did not over analyse situation. For them problem and answer both were simple. The situation at House X had changed and so they decided to change. They were quickly on their way to search for new cheese. Later, that same day, Tom & Jerry arrived at house X. Since, they were not paying attention to the small changes that were taking place each day. Tom roared what! No cheese? And he yelled who moved my cheese? While Jerry just shook his head in doubt, they stood there for a long time. Because cheese was important for them, they spent a long time to decide what to do but all they could think of was to keep looking around cheese in house X. Every day, both humans went home hungry. Tom has his own opinion that because they were little people, they are special and entitled to cheese. While Jerry started believing and realized the difference between activity and productivity and eventually Jerry moved out of house to find new house with cheese i.e. searching for new opportunities. Tom, on the other hand was still at house X. Thinking that cheese will re-appear. On the other side, Jerry came out from his comfort zone and decided to change sooner. Jerry and ham both were becoming weak day by day. Jerry Page 56

KIAMS thought, Better late than never. After several days of search, Jerry found a little cheese here and there but nothing that lasts for very long. Later, he began to wonder if it was realistic for him to expect or to find new cheese. Later, he realized that the cheese at house X suddenly vanished. After days of search Finally, Jerry came cross huge House but when he went inside, it was empty. So he started his journey again. Jerry proceeded with a corridor that was new to him, rounded a corner and found new house Y with cheese, where he found greatest supply of cheese he had ever seen. Jerry finally got to know:‖ Life moves on and so we should too Noticing small changes early‖, helps you adapt to the bigger changes an opportunities that are to come. ―Morals for managers‖ Managers must understand complex human behaviour which leads to complicating things and also they are resistant to change which leads to rigidity of mind and can direct oneself towards extinction.

The Rise of Pseudo-Feminism in India. Feminism was a movement that intended to establish and ensure equal rights and treatment for both the genders. In a country like India where daughters are looked upon as a financial debt and female foeticide are depicted by alarming statistics, feminism is indeed a requirement. There is an utmost need to educate the people that both the genders are equal irrespective of their biological differences. But, like every other thing in this world it also has a threshold which it should not cross. Excess of everything is bad and most noticeably when it infringes someone‘s right in order to establish others. It is an intimidating situation when the concept of equal rights is being destroyed under the garb of equal rights. Unfortunately the same has been witnessed by the people of India since the very unfortunate nirbhaya rape case that took place in the capital of country and shook the nation. Undoubtedly it reflected the stale and crooked mentality underlying in the India society and the insecurities they still face in the nation. It was disheartening and disturbing to hear from people that it was the girls fault. It was a shame to what we often refer to as Indian culture that a victim of a gruesome incident was held to be responsible for the miserable situation which she was into which ultimately concluded with her demise. This wasn‘t the only incident which elucidated the hypocrite mind set of Indian society which holds mind baffling double standards when it comes to gender equality in India. In many of the backward areas of our nation girls are not considered to be worth being educated. The parents either never contemplate about or either hesitate from to let them work and earn for themselves and when against all the odds if they manage to earn their living they are either under constant fear or subjected to various discriminations. But as wrong it is to discriminate against a women in a supposedly male dominated society equally wrong it is to violate basic principles of human equality on the name of feminism which in reality is nothing more significant than pseudo feminism. When a man says that I want to marry a fair and beautiful girl the feministic forces typecast him as a male chauvinist pig but when a girl says that I want to marry a handsome well settled boy all of a sudden it becomes chasing a perfect idea of an ideal partner. People call it beautiful but nobody calls her a feministic swine. In reality none of them are wrong. Both of them have the liberties to choose their life partner and expect some qualities in him or her. It‘s these feminists who are bent upon adjudging every male statement and every male action to be a reflection a male dominated society. We must call it our ill faith that we live in a nation were a leading Bollywood actress preaches infidelity and directly or indirectly labels it as feminism. Feminists think that feminism is all about what kind of clothes, society permits them to put on, what kind of profession they are into. The amount of body hair that they have. A very enlightening feministic opinion is that a home maker is an oppressed women who is in dire need of feminism, it‘s sad that they don‘t realize looking after your own home and your own child doesn‘t make you any less of a women on the contrary these are one of the things for which men respect and always should respect women. These are the things which men should do as well. Feminism should seek men and women both equally participating as a home maker. These are equal rights. Moreover they need to realize that feminism doesn‘t lie between their thighs. The sexual life of a women have nothing to do with equal rights. Most of these are online revolutionaries. You can find them on so called random philosophical facebook page or internet blog discussing their liberating and Page 58

KIAMS emancipating ideas but forgetting the principles of practice before you preach. Women (pseudo feminists) need to realize that every man is not a rapist and the society shall change only when they stop treating them as one. The society has changed a bid deal. The present government cabinet has two women in charge of two important ministries. There are several privileges that women enjoy both legally and socially. They are not expected to be bread winners for their families. Their queues are smaller and the mind set of Indian male is getting broader. The world needs men and women equally and we don‘t need feminists we need humanists.

KIAMS Never Stop Growing and Learning

It was Gandhi who said, ―Learn as if you were to live forever.‖ Why do you think he recommended this? It‘s because human beings are not meant to stop growing and learning, even though our time on earth is limited. Part of finding and sustaining happiness in your life is opening yourself up to new things as you get older, though it‘s not always easy to do this. Life happens. Stress abounds and our responsibilities, typically financial, lead us to de-prioritize our own intellectual growth. Steps to change, however, are quite possible. These steps will help point you in the right direction of having a lifestyle that helps you unlock your unlimited potential. 1. Surround Yourself with Achievers We become who we hang around, so why not use this truth to your advantage? As you get older, find individuals who are growing and learning, and share your life with them. As they experience and accomplish new things, you‘ll be inspired to do the same. 2. Turn Off the TV Yikes. This can be a hard one, but TV pretty much numbs our minds and prevents us from producing like we can when our minds are at their peak. A way to ease into a television-free lifestyle is to ban TV from your weekdays and save it for the weekend. You can use the freed-up time to read and learn something completely new while still keeping up with your favorite shows at the end of the week. 3. Find a Mentor This can be a bit tricky since we sometimes like to rely on our friends to fill this role. A good mentor, however, is someone who is on a different level than you, though there are exceptions. You want a mentor who knows you well enough to call you out when they see you slipping into mediocrity, and you also want a mentor who isn‘t afraid to push you to achieve more. I had a mentor just like this in college. I knew he wasn‘t just another friend because whenever we would hang out, he would spend the entire time evaluating and motivating me. Parents, older siblings and teachers are usually the best mentors, and they‘re usually the most willing to accept your help if you ask for it. 4. Be a Mentor Nothing beats learning by teaching. When I was in school, I often tutored other students in order to help them and learn the material even better myself. Seek out opportunities to be a mentor for someone younger and hungry to learn. They‘ll often inspire you to achieve more yourself, and taking on a tangible responsibility like this keeps you from decelerating your growth. Page 61

KIAMS 5. Focus on One Thing at a Time Being ―okay‖ at a lot of things isn‘t as impressive as being the master of one. Let‘s say you want to learn a language. It would be catastrophic (unless you‘re that good) if you tried to learn two or three at the same time! Instead, focus on mastering each subject before you try something new.

6. Stick to Subjects You Already Know Let‘s say you‘ve managed to master the any language. Awesome! But instead of trying to learn a topic that is completely unrelated, consider learning about any language history. You now know the language, so this the next natural step to gaining an even deeper understanding of the subject. It‘s also a lot easier to learn more about a subject you already have an interest in. 7. Meet Interesting People This is pretty easy in your 20′s, before you‘ve really settled down. Once you have a spouse and kids, you won‘t have as much free time to spend conversing with new people. Still, it‘s worth the effort, and you don‘t have to go to a bar to talk to strangers. Put yourself out there by talking to the myriad of people you run into, and maintaining this habit of curiosity will keep your mind open and receptive to the perspectives of others 8. Create Something One of my lifelong mottos has always been, ―When in doubt, create something.‖ Sometimes our minds are just burnt out on taking in new information, and we need to express everything we‘ve learned through our own ―works of art.‖ For you, that can be a multitude of things like a novel, painting or skyscraper. Whatever it is that‘s begging to come out of that head of yours, know that pacing yourself in life is key to always staying interested in learning. Once you‘ve exhausted your mental creativity, your inner self will be begging for you to learn something new.

KIAMS SUMMER INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE I have got the opportunity to intern with JM Financial Services ltd Bangalore in the domain of my interest, finance. Like anybody else I was greatly excited as well as nervous about working at a company for a short time span as I heard from my seniors that they will not allow you to work all you have to do is SIT N STARE. That really sounded awry but I was waiting to see what will happen in reality. Finally the day came & there I was right at 9 AM dressed in formals, in the office where I had to spend next 8 weeks of my life. I was asked to report to MR.Prasanth Assistant vice president of JM Advisory group who was allotted as my company guide. That day was an interesting one as I met some of the interns in the office. Next day I had discussion with my company guide about my project topic. He asked me to select the topic of my interest & I decide to work in the area of mutual funds as I was interested in analysis I decided to analyse the performance of mutual funds. The project geared up with me completing a certification course in mutual funds. Then my company guide suggested me to extend my project by linking the concept of ETF‘s to it & my project is titled as how an exchange traded fund can safeguard a mutual fund investment. Though data collection was a tedious task, I was able to collect all the data required for my analysis as soon as possible. Mean while in the weekends I used to enjoy with my college friends whom I met after a long period & used to visit some good places for hangout with them. The most important process in the project was periodical reviews which I used to have with my boss & also from my faculty guide. I used to get some valuable suggestions from both them. The internship ended with a treat from my boss to all the interns & there he had shared some of his practical experiences in his field also suggested us to chose the field we are more passionate about it & achieve success in that. The internship indulged me to think Practically, plan well, organize and execute things in my life with full trust and confidence. It taught me to help and respect each other. On the whole it was a great learning experience at my first job and I‘m proud to having been interned with Jm financial services ltd.
