Yulong 2024 Stallion Brochure

Page 1

I am pleased to present our 2024 stallion roster, a testament to the remarkable journey Yulong has undertaken. Our stallion lineup is now one of the strongest in Victoria, a roster that has garnered respect and excitement across Australia.

This achievement stems from continuous and thoughtful global investment. We have come a long way, thanks to strategic planning, sustained investment and a clear vision for the future. The result? A unique stallion roster backed by an elite broodmare band, and the racetrack successes of our burgeoning young stallions speak volumes.

As we look forward, we are optimistic about what lies ahead. Our aspiration is to further solidify Yulong’s reputation as a respected global breeding operation. The extensive investments made in and beyond Victoria have laid a strong foundation for our future.

Your ongoing support has been crucial to our rapid growth and success, and we look forward to continuing our journey together.

Thank you for placing your trust in Yulong.

The Year of the DRAGON

In the realm of horse racing, where luck and strategy intertwine, the Year of the Dragon holds a special significance. According to Chinese astrology, the dragon symbolises power, success, and good fortune. It’s a year associated with bold endeavours, ambitious goals, and triumphant achievements. At Yulong, the Year of the Dragon has proved to be a time of unparalleled success and ascension.

The symbolism of the dragon also resonates deeply with Yulong’s ethos and approach to the industry. Much like the mythical creature, we value strength and resilience, while continuing on our pursuit of excellence.

Success on the racetrack

One of the defining characteristics of the Year of the Dragon is its association with new beginnings and groundbreaking achievements. For Yulong, this has translated into a series of landmark victories on the racetrack.

On a particularly memorable Golden Slipper Day in March, European imports Via Sistina and Place Du Carrousel made it a Yulong-owned quinella in the Gr.1 Ranvet Stakes which was followed by a thrilling Yulong-sired one-two in the Gr.1 Golden Slipper Stakes later on that afternoon.

In addition, there is plenty to look forward to among our two-year-old crop with the exciting Yulongowned Straight Charge, a winner of the Gr.2 Silver Slipper Stakes, as well as the Gr.3 Breeders’ Stakes winner, Growing Empire.

Five-time Gr.1-winning mare Montefillia rounded out her racing career earlier this season with a win in the Gr.2 Hill Stakes, whilst we also celebrated our first winner in Hong Kong with the Mark Newman-trained Show Respect.

Successful Sales

Moreover, the dragon’s association with prosperity and good fortune has undoubtedly brought favourable winds to Yulong’s endeavours at the sales. It was with great satisfaction that we presented our largest draft ever at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. Comprising 66 yearlings, the draft also represented the largest ever brought to the sale by a single consignor and we were proud to complete the week as leading vendor.

Yulong-bred and sold horses have also performed at the highest level on the track this season and recent sales graduates include $1 million Inglis Golden Gift winner Shangri La Express and Gr.1 winner Veight.

Successful Sires

It has also been a year of growth and good fortune in the stallion barn where our first-season sires Alabama Express and Pierata have both propelled themselves into prominent positions among the new stallion ranks thanks to the success of their progeny on the track, with the latter the leading first-season sire by stakes winners. Yulong sires also achieved a quinella in the world’s richest two-year-old race when Written Tycoon’s Lady Of Camelot held off Pierata’s Coleman in a thrilling finish to the Gr.1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

Recording his second Golden Slipper winner, Written Tycoon is Australia’s Leading Two-Year-Old Sire by prize money and brought his tally of individual Gr.1 winners to 15 this season. Foundation stallion Grunt has also shared some time in the limelight, siring his first Gr.1 winner when the Yulong-bred Veight took out the George Ryder Stakes.

In essence, the Year of the Dragon has been a period of extraordinary growth and achievement at Yulong, marking an exciting new chapter on our illustrious journey in horse racing.
