Life Essentials® Curriculum

Learning can happen anytime and anywhere.

Children are constantly learning—no matter where they are and what they're doing. It’s important to keep imagination and curiosity growing whether they're in the classroom or at home. Our Life Essentials curriculum is delivered with the nurturing, guidance, support, and commitment of our highly trained educators.

Life Essentials® Curriculum

Life Essentials is our proprietary curriculum designed to nurture, educate, inspire, and prepare children for life. This unique, holistic curriculum focuses on the development of 6 key outcomes:

Focusing on character is the heart of our curriculum. Through Character Essentials®, we provide a solid foundation for good citizenship and support strong social-emotional development.

We place the utmost importance on providing a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for your child. Every Kiddie Academy® location follows state licensing regulations. Each building has secure, restricted-entry systems, open floor plans for easy observation, and thorough employee vetting and background checks. Plus, our staff is trained in first aid, CPR, and emergency drills.

Health and Wellness

We work healthy food, physical activity, and emotional well-being into your child’s development as early as possible. Daily nutritious meals and snacks, outdoor playing time, and activities designed to help your child recognize their feelings lead to healthy relationships with food and friends later in life.

STEM Education

Helping your child become a better problem solver.

As an essential part of our Life Essentials curriculum, we organically introduce science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills throughout each child’s day. Through hands-on activities, our educators use real-life STEM examples to support your child’s natural curiosity, promote a love of learning, and nurture critical thinking.

Family-Style Dining

Family-style dining is a time to truly connect over our nutritious meals and snacks, which are included in your tuition. By eating in a group setting with their educators, children pick up conversational skills. By participating in setting the table, serving, manipulating utensils, passing along bowls, and cleaning up, they learn to share, practice patience, develop a sense of responsibility, and work on their fine motor skills.

This is also a great opportunity for our educators to incorporate our curriculum—encouraging children to count, identify food items, and practice other skills. Our family-style dining reinforces the nurturing sense of place at your own family table, and is a practice recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

We use every opportunity to teach and learn—including during meals.

Open Communication

We realize that entrusting us with the nurturing and care of your child is a crucial decision. So we place as much importance on communication as we do on our curriculum.

Daily reports through our mobile app, Academy Link®, give you access to classroom activities, notifications, and developmental progress. Our frequent blog posts and Parenting Essentials newsletter share ideas, tips, and advice that revolve around every aspect of raising your child.

School-Home Connection

For your child, learning doesn’t only happen within the walls of a classroom. It happens around the clock—on the way home, in the backyard, and at the breakfast table, in all kinds of natural and playful ways.

Kiddie Academy started in 1981 when Pauline Miller opened the first location in Baltimore County, Maryland—which was the foundation for community-based Academies and a proprietary curriculum designed to nurture, educate, and inspire children for life.

Under the leadership of George and Pauline Miller’s son Michael, Kiddie Academy has grown to hundreds of locations across the country, empowering a passion for learning that children carry with them for the rest of their lives.
