More than tuition: Victoria Carlton Programs ictoria Carlton’s education programs promote real learning rather than just rote learning and worksheets. Victoria’s teachers are trained to use engaging, handson strategies to ensure children understand and apply what they have learned.

V

Her literacy and numeracy programs are proven to give excellent results and her EQ4KIDZ course has helped thousands of children to improve self-esteem and develop a positive I can attitude. The centre is more than a tuition centre. It truly is a learning centre packed full of amazing teaching games and resources. “We do not coach children here,” says Ms Carlton. “My teachers teach them. We have our own programs based on many years of research into how children learn. Every child is treated like a unique gift to the world and nurtured with love and care. All children can learn if given exactly what they need!” Victoria’s programs are offered by the International Centre for Excellence in Bayswater and teachers can purchase licences to use these programs in their own schools or education centres. Her aim is always to bring out the potential

in each child and ensure they develop a lifelong love of learning. Parents are given week by week feedback to help them determine rate of progress and show them how to follow up at home.

R

Victoria is passionate about spreading her positive approach to education - in Government and Private schools in Australia and SE Asia. She believes that teachers must teach in effective ways and that schools should teach more and test less.

“For mental maths, my teacher uses my work to mark others,” Reuben says.

euben, 12, and his younger brother, Ryan, 9, know the benefits that come from studying through Kumon’s tailored learning programmes. For Reuben, completing the Kumon Maths Programme with material equivalent to Year 12 has him in high demand in his Year 7 classroom.

“Naplan appears to be taking up valuable teaching time in our schools,” she says. “We see hundreds of children who have low selfesteem after receiving low Naplan scores. These children need explicit daily teaching in literacy and numeracy - not coaching to pass a test.”

Ryan has had similar experiences as he continues to solve Year 9-level maths equations and analysing high school English texts.

Read Victoria’s blog at www.victoriacarlton.com to find out more about her ideas and “like” International Centre for Excellence on facebook to learn more about her programs.

For their mother, Jessie, having her boys advanced in their school work has put her at ease, but there are other advantages in sending her sons to Kumon.

“My friends ask me for help and I give them examples and show them the right way to do it,” Ryan says.

“It’s good that Reuben is in Kumon because it has taught him to be more confident and independent and he helps Ryan too,” she says.

Children from 3-17 are welcomed to Victoria Carlton’s Programs at ICE in Bayswater. Call 9271 4200 or email info@ice-au.com for more details.

Dividing your assets post-separation

What would you do in an emergency?

f you and your former spouse or partner can’t agree how to divide your assets, and you are both legally represented, the Family Court expects you to attend “mediation style conferencing” before approaching Court.

t’s a question that plagues many of you with concern for your family’s safety. Would you be able to react calmly? Could you provide First Aid care that could save a loved one’s life?

I

I

Failing to do so may result in substantial delays for parties in Court. However, if parties attend a conference but do not settle the matter, they may be “fast tracked” to trial.

Flex Training Services specialises in helping people learn something new or brush up on old skills, and what could be better than learning to save a life? In just one day, you could have the knowledge and skills to provide emergency First Aid care with their popular Senior First Aid course.

The conferences assist parties to negotiate mutually satisfactory resolutions to their disputes. They are confidential sessions involving parties, their solicitors and a chairperson, also usually an experienced family lawyer. Where an agreement is reached, the lawyers write it up and it can be lodged with the Court. Meredith Hunter is a lawyer, Mediation

Style Conference Convener and Nationally Accredited Mediator. The lawyers at Hunter Cook Legal are well equipped to represent parties in all aspects of Family Law.

With the right training you could rest assured that you could save the life of those closest to you. It’s also a highly valued skill amongst employers, so a worthy investment if you’re thinking of returning to the workplace.

Save-A-Child First Aid Training

Why a Will is not Estate Planning

any people don’t think about firstaid training until something bad happens! If a child stops breathing for any reason, permanent brain damage generally begins approximately 4 minutes later. Basic resuscitation knowledge can make the difference between life and death in such a situation.

ost people realise that making a Will is essential and that not doing so can result in much hard-ache and/or legal expense for your loved ones.

M

Injuries such as bleeding, burns, poisoning and allergic reactions also require immediate first aid assistance. Thousands of children are injured every day in Australia and roughly 200 have to be admitted to hospital.

• Superannuation, some life insurances, trusts and jointly owned property fall outside your deceased estate and therefore need particular care?

M

Would you know what to do? While many people have first aid training, all knowledge fades with time. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that resuscitation skills should be updated annually! The Save-A-Child course is run by a highly experienced lecturer and former ambulance officer. A 6 hour and 3 hour course is

‘teaching’ is far from the role of this adult.

Whilst for ease of description the term ‘teacher’ is used, in reality, due to your child’s innate ability to learn for themselves,

As a contemporary primary school, Hammond Park Catholic is designed with the best examples of playground design, use of technology and teaching spaces available today. The classrooms are air conditioned and the large glass bi-fold doors allow students to move from learning inside to learning outside with ease. Their learning programme is designed to address the needs of all students and aims to provide the broadest range of educational experiences so that every individual can enjoy challenge, achievement and success in a caring environment. The curriculum is based on ‘The Early

indergarten kids at Guildford Grammar School love to learn! Their kindergarten caters for boys and girls and operates five full days per week, from 8.15am-3.00pm. They currently have two kindergarten classes of around 20 children, each with a specialised Early Childhood Teacher and a qualified Education Assistant.

The Fraction Stacker is an example of a teaching aid that is used at many Montessori pre-schools and schools. It consists of several wooden columns each representing a value of one.

The use of these ‘puzzle’ teaching aids, aside from providing children with something hands-on to explain and visualise abstract concepts, also nurture a child’s natural curiosity and interest in learning. They feel empowered and independent because they are figuring things out for themselves.
