omen’s Health and Family Services offer a range of therapeutic and support services to women experiencing depression, anxiety, and other ongoing mental health concerns. Staff in the mental health team provide group services, individualised support, and care planning within a recovery based model.

Some of the groups on offer in 2013 are Art Therapy, Depression and Anxiety group (applying cognitive behavioural therapy), and a Recovery Planning Support Group. Funded by the Mental Health Commission of Western Australia, these groups are offered free of charge and include the use of an onsite crèche for women with small children.

The program delivers not only the obvious fitness and self defence benefits, but also teaches wholesome life values and instils confidence, discipline and respect in its students.

It’s not required to have a referral from a GP to access these services, however it is important that women meet with staff first to assess their individual needs and suitability to programs.
