Does my child need tutoring? By Julie Daniels, Kip McGrath Education Centre Willetton
P
arents often ask the questions, “Does my child need extra help to keep up at school?” “How do I know if my child is coping?” “What can I do?” The answer to these questions can be found at your local Kip McGrath Centre. Your child will be assessed to find out how he/she is coping and whether extra help is needed. Kip McGrath will then provide an individualised learning programme particularly suited to your child’s needs. For parents who find it too difficult to get their children to a centre there is now the option of Online Tutoring. This opens up a whole new world of opportunities for children to be tutored at home with a qualified, caring teacher taking the lesson in real time. Kip McGrath’s multi-million dollar advances in technology allow children to access the proven methods of tuition only previously available in-centre. All you need is an up to date computer and an internet connection. At Kip McGrath students work on individually designed programs with computer and manual activities to revise and consolidate their learning. They learn how to learn as well as what to learn.
Homework tasks are specifically designed to revise and consolidate the teaching and learning which takes place during sessions. Early intervention and development of confidence are the keys to getting on top of any issues that your child may be having with learning. By identifying areas needing attention, individualising programs, using quality resources and professional tutors, Kip McGrath centres are able to help students move forward with their learning. All students can learn given the right teaching and tutors at Kip McGrath Centres pride themselves on assessing, devising programs and quality teaching to give students the opportunity to reach their full potential. If you’re concerned about your child’s academic achievements or believe that he/she is not reaching true potential, call your local Kip McGrath Education Centre today. relationships with schools. In fact we have many teachers’ children attending! Classroom teachers know we will collaborate with them to ensure the needs of all children are being met.
These programs are innovative, groundbreaking and DIFFERENT.
The teachers at ICE find that some children need very visual methods, some need more structured spelling or comprehension and some children even need a lot of assistance to switch on their imaginations. The advantages of TAILORED TUITION model are that every child gets exactly the learning menu they need. “We prepare an engaging learning buffet of maths and literacy,” explained Victoria, “and then the children have their individual learning menu”.
Victoria Carlton explained, “We are not trying to compete in the mass tuition market. Our teaching is about tailoring our lessons and methods to suit children so we are NOT one size fits all. We are more like a “boutique” approach where your child can be assessed, put on a plan written and tailored for them and given work appropriate to their learning stage. We look at learning styles, promote creativity and believe ALL kids are smart- it is up to us to bring this out! Our lessons are very engaging with the latest in educational toys, literature and carefully chosen internet programs. Parents are a big part of our programs. We give free counselling and meet with parents regularly. All children receive individualised assessments at the end of each term.” When asked about relationships with schools Victoria added, “We enjoy excellent

Victoria commented, “Children on this program learn easily and naturally to read at a very young age and more importantly learn how to THINK. Creative thinking skills are a huge part of this program and we capitalise on their natural curiosity and stimulate natural intelligence and talents to grow.”

The school’s philosophy is to provide a nurturing and gentle introduction to classical ballet. All ballet lessons are taught by professional and educated teachers and are carefully planned to cultivate a love for the art form and inspire through beautiful music and movement.
KodaChat began because of a clear and present problem. Kids want to engage technology to communicate with their friends, however parents are reluctant due to the lack of safe alternatives.
Charlesworth Ballet School classes start from pre-primary grade and are available throughout the metropolitan area, with new branches now open at Singleton and Carine. Many chat apps are not developed with kids in mind or do not restrict who can communicate with them. KodaChat creates a safe, supervised and social community. iscovering that you may need assistance with conception can come as a shock and generate issues within your relationship. Infertility is a matter for both partners, so work with your GP to make informed decisions if you and your partner have failed to conceive within one year of trying. If a woman is over the age of 35, she and her partner should talk to their GP if she has failed to conceive within six months. Medical specialists in fertility will always test both partners to evaluate the likely cause of a couple’s infertility. These tests aim to arrive at a treatment plan that focuses, as nearly as possible, on your specific treatment requirements.
As Hollywood Fertility Centre (HFC) medical director Dr Simon Turner (pictured) says “From my years of experience, conceiving is often affected by age and lifestyle choices so it important to seek fertility management early. Act soon.” For more information contact Hollywood Fertility Centre on 9389 4200 or visit www.hollywoodivf.com
f you were married to a child’s mother or in a de facto relationship around the time the mother became pregnant, there is a presumption of the Family Court and the Department of Human Services (Child Support) that you are that child’s father.
If you believe that you are not the biological father of a child you can have this determined through DNA testing. You will need the consent of both parents or a Court Order to undertake legally recognised DNA testing.
When parents separate, the father of the child is required to be assessed to pay child support. Except in specific cases such as adoption, if you are not the father of the child you will not be required to pay child support.

Relieved mother Susan supports Janice’s assertion: “My daughter was always scared to ask for help. Since attending NumberWorks’nWords she has gained the most important thing - confidence in herself.”
According to Janice McGuire of NumberWorks’nWords, if you want an objective measure of your child’s capability and progress, an expert assessment will provide the information you need.
NumberWorks’nWords’ specialist maths tuition and English tuition centres offer one-on-one, individualised, success-based tuition to all students up to year 10. And it’s ‘so much fun it doesn’t feel like learning.’

Montessori emphasises learning for interest, to develop knowledge and awareness of our surroundings. Montessori children aren’t encouraged to compete or work for rewards or to avoid consequences.
During a child’s final Montessori primary years, they develop a greater level of abstraction with academic subjects and move away from using sensorial teaching materials as books are the main teaching materials in high school. They are also guided in ways that improve planning and organisation. They develop familiarity with standardised testing and working to deadlines. Montessori graduates typically say they are well prepared academically, and have the ability to study and work independently helping their transition into conventional high school. W
hen Dr Maria Montessori spoke of ‘education for life’ she meant preparing a child for experiences over their lifetime. This also includes possibly moving away from Montessori and into conventional schooling. A child who’s been in Montessori since age 3 has years of daily practise working cooperatively, negotiating with peers, being a leader or follower depending on the situation and learning how to learn. Individual selfreliance and dependability is developed because the children are regularly making decisions for themselves about what to work on, or pacing themselves with activity.
