Happy Children Learn More
C
hildren who learn using the Victoria Carlton methods are happy kids! They are assessed and placed on a literacy and maths continuum and taught with a very systematic, organised approach that ensures the basic skills are taught thoroughly. Each child has their own learning skills folder to ensure they are getting exactly what they need. This means children experience a sense of “I can” and observe their own progress. Teachers using the Victoria Carlton approach are taught to weave in quality literature and comprehension learning for all levels. They provide exercises that refresh and stimulate the brain and all children are taught mindfulness to aid their concentration and ability to be calm and think clearly. The learning is based on Victoria’s unique approach to literacy and numeracy and she insists that certain conditions must be met wherever her programs are run. These conditions are called CREAM and refer to: C – Creative. Children do something creative at every learning session because that helps them concentrate and opens their minds for learning. R – Reflective. There are mindful moments
and time to reflect on learning and ask questions. E – Engaging. All learning strategies must be engaging and intrinsically interesting to capture a child’s “learning heart.” M – Multisensory. Teachers using Victoria Carlton Programs are taught how to add multisensory learning strategies to ensure maximum retention takes place. Children are honoured, respected and nurtured in Victoria Carlton programs. They learn how to express their feelings appropriately and are given the opportunity to learn with their own learning styles. Victoria Carlton believes all children are a gift to the world and her programs affirm every child and help them to grow. Parents who would like to enrol their children in Victoria Carlton programs can contact staff at ICE on 9271 4200 (Bayswater) or call staff at AGAPE 9414 7191 (Cockburn Central) Teachers and schools who would lik e to use the Victoria Carlton methods can contact Victoria through ICE and talk about the flexible licences and ways to access the programs.

“I should have done this years ago” By Mark Jones, Kip McGrath Joondalup
W
e recently did a complete assessment of a year 11 student, as the mother was worried at how far her son was behind. She was not surprised by his results, but she was upset with herself for not taking action sooner . “I should have done this years ago,” she said.
this, they can use the results to create an individualised learning program that responds directly to your child’s individual needs, whatever their year level.
This raises the question - when is the best time to find help for your son or daughter?
It is also never too late. Help is at hand. Call one of our centres or go to kipmcgrath.com.au to find your nearest centre and book in your free assessment. Like so many of our parents, you will be so glad you did.
At Kip McGrath we believe parents are the experts when it comes to their children. Teachers are very knowledgeable about teaching and running classrooms, but they do not know your child lik e you do. When you feel that your child is not progressing, or their grades are suffering. When you notice that your child has changed in their attitude to his or her studies, or appears to be avoiding completing work. All of these are signs that you need to seek out a helping hand. The tutors at Kip McGrath have the skills and tools to provide you with an accurate and realistic assessment of your child’s levels in literacy and numeracy. More than
