Happy Children Learn More
C
hildren who learn using the Victoria Carlton methods are happy kids! They are assessed and placed on a literacy and maths continuum and taught with a very systematic, organised approach that ensures the basic skills are taught thoroughly. Each child has their own learning skills folder to ensure they are getting exactly what they need. This means children experience a sense of “I can” and observe their own progress. Teachers using the Victoria Carlton approach are taught to weave in quality literature and comprehension learning for all levels. They provide exercises that refresh and stimulate the brain and all children are taught mindfulness to aid their concentration and ability to be calm and think clearly. The learning is based on Victoria’s unique approach to literacy and numeracy and she insists that certain conditions must be met wherever her programs are run. These conditions are called CREAM and refer to: C – Creative. Children do something creative at every learning session because that helps them concentrate and opens their minds for learning. R – Reflective. There are mindful moments
and time to reflect on learning and ask questions. E – Engaging. All learning strategies must be engaging and intrinsically interesting to capture a child’s “learning heart.” M – Multisensory. Teachers using Victoria Carlton Programs are taught how to add multisensory learning strategies to ensure maximum retention takes place. Children are honoured, respected and nurtured in Victoria Carlton programs. They learn how to express their feelings appropriately and are given the opportunity to learn with their own learning styles. Victoria Carlton believes all children are a gift to the world and her programs affirm every child and help them to grow. Parents who would like to enrol their children in Victoria Carlton programs can contact staff at ICE on 9271 4200 (Bayswater) or call staff at AGAPE 9414 7191 (Cockburn Central) Teachers and schools who would lik e to use the Victoria Carlton methods can contact Victoria through ICE and talk about the flexible licences and ways to access the programs.

Learning music develops your child’s brain
Free, fun program for a healthier, happier child
I
f you’re concerned about your child’s weight or health, take advantage of a free healthy lifestyle program running at various locations across Perth.
F
orte School of Music can help your child outperform their peers at school.
Every parent wants their child to hold the number one spot in the classroom. There is immense competition in the world and being good at things just doesn’t cut it anymore. You want your kids to excel in every area so that they can face the challenges in life head on. Learning music in early childhood helps brain development and gives kids a head start. A child starts absorbing and learning new things from the moment they enter this world. The more you can help enhance your child’s learning process, the better they adapt and develop their skills.
The Better Health Program is a free, fun, interactive 10 week healthy lifestyle program for 7-13 year old children who are above their healthy weight range – and for their families. Sessions run twice a week, for two hours. Children’s music programs at Forte Music School start from as early as six months, the prime time for learning and enhancing a child’s intellectual skills. For more information call Applecross (1300 367 803), Canning Vale ( 9256 3170) or Joondalup ( 9468 3240) or visit www.fortemusic.com
The program, which encourages children to build their self-confidence, provides families with information on healthy eating and allows children to participate in a full hour of physical activity at each session. Parents are given the opportunity to learn new skills, particularly behaviour change techniques, to encourage and motivate their child towards a healthier lifestyle.

Why kindergarten matters
Climb Preschool in Westminster aims to improve literacy rates
Goodstart Early Learning has developed a program that combines a mix of fun, structured learning and physical activity to ensure children develop the skills and confidence they need to adapt to a school environment. The program places a strong emphasis on building social and thinking skills, language and independence.
W
ith literacy results in the surrounding areas considered well below average, educators recommend preschool programs to get children off to school with a head start.
LAS3156/APR16
“Our program aims to enhance early literacy skills in our preschoolers by giving them the basic knowledge and providing the foundation to further their literacy performance,” says Climb owner Kristin Sputore.
At Goodstart, they provide a safe, nurturing environment for all children to allow them to learn a broad range of skills that include socialemotional learning, language and literacy, mathematics, science and technology, sociodramatic play, dance and music, creative arts, design and construction - as well as
physically active play. If you are considering kindergarten for your child, contact Goodstart on 1800 222 543 to ask any questions you have about this important decision for your family.
Share the joy of martial arts with your children
Climb Preschool embraces The Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood, inspiring the educators and environment but also allowing the preschool to be uniquely it’s own. The program encompasses the principles, practices and outcomes outlined in the Early Years Framework. Eligible families will receive 50% off fees with the child care rebates, allowing affordable education and care for working or studying parents.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY SURFING CAMPS & LESSONS For Grommets Ages 7+
om “Bomber” Johnston, owner of Go Surf Perth grew up surfing, he advocates surfing for children not only for fitness but also for life lessons learnt from surfing. “Surfing is unique because it naturally presents joy and adversity like real life,” says Tom. “You can go out and surf everyday yet not improve because sometimes the weather doesn’t present good swell and waves, it’s these unexpected challenges that surfers learn to overcome and just move on.” “Surfing taught me to concentrate on the moment and realise opportunities, seeing and
catching the right wave but never dwelling too long on missed waves or disappointment.” Go Surf Perth is an ASI accredited surf school with professional instructors offering school holiday programs, weekday classes for mothers and weekend lessons for the whole family. If you or your child want to learn to surf, call Go Surf Perth on 0403 543 943 or visit www.gosurfperth.com

Children enrolled in Victoria Carlton Programs find out that learning can be fun and rewarding. Literacy and maths results markedly improve but more importantly, the children learn that they can be successful life-long learners. They are all placed on individualised literacy and maths programs and only evidence-based programs and methods are used. Only the best learning software and handson games and literature is allowed so children love their learning sessions. There is no doubt that children enrolled in

Is your child confident to succeed?
H
ow do you know whether to intervene in your child’s education?
Play, care, explore, create and learn
Some signs are obvious: ebbing selfconfidence, lack of motivation or boredom. But some problems are disguised by adequate performance.
C
rescenteec, or “Selvi’s place,” as most children call it, is a friendly home environment where children feel at ease in small groups.
According to Janice McGuire of NumberWorks’nWords, if you want an objective measure of your child’s capability and progress, an expert assessment will provide the information you need.
Programs are designed to suit every child and their individual needs; gifted children, children with learning disabilities, those lacking confidence and social skills or experiencing separation anxiety.
“Improving your child’s skills in just one subject can pay off with unexpected benefits,” says Janice. “A surprising gain in self-confidence is often noticeable.”
Crescenteec is inspired by the Montessori philosophy and the Reggio Emilia approach. Emotional intelligence is also a main focus.
Relieved mother, Susan, agrees. “My daughter was always scared to ask for help,” she says. “Since attending NumberWorks’nWords she has gained the most important thing - confidence in herself.”
Children as young as 18 months old can start off by doing Parent-group sessions. Children who are more than 2 1/2 years old move up to do the Enrichment programs, without their parents. When they start full-time school children can continue their learning by doing private sessions after-school.
Holiday programs to make them smile
D
oes your child need you to repeat things, or seems not to understand what you or the teacher is saying? Is your child frustrated or off in their own world? They might suffer from poor auditory processing. The Tomatis® Method works in re-patterning the ear-brain-body connections and helps with auditory processing, attention span and reconnecting with oneself and one’s environment. It’s a powerful instrument helping thousands of children and adults with behavioural, learning and communication difficulties.
T
he two centres using Victoria Carlton programs, (ICE and AGAPE) are offering a wide range of April holiday programs to stimulate and extend children’s enthusiasm for learning. A few of the learning highlights are: • Daily Learning Boost sessions • Earth Day - fun for budding environmentalists • Young Scientists - for all curious and inventive thinkers
Françoise Nicoloff is a psychologist and expert with 39 years’ experience in auditory processing, learning and communication. She visits Perth regularly to run assessments. She is also the co-author of the book The

DGC has proven itself as a significant contributor to the sport of gymnastics and has been around for over 40 years, and successfully for the 3rd year running has been awarded WA No 1 Club of the Year.
R
elief is at hand for bubs with blocked noses. No more bulbs, screaming kids and no more hassle – just quick and easy aspiration anywhere, anytime.
The popularity of their recreational programs attracts participation of people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience gymnastics. The club also provides opportunities for gymnasts to train as coaches, which they believe is crucial to the further gymnastics in WA.
The Snotty has revolutionised the way Australian parents aspirate their infants and toddlers, with their unique battery operated constant suction nasal aspirators. They have now helped over 100,000 Australian children and their parents with symptoms of colds, allergies and hayfever.
Term 2 enrolments are now open for popular daytime Toddler Kindergym and After-School Term programs.
SNOTTY has been approved by the TGA as a medical device in Australia since 2010. SNOTTY ONE offers constant suction and is conveniently portable and waterproof. The SNOTTY ONE was a total sell-out during every child Expo in 2015 Australia-wide. SNOTTY is well on its way to becoming a household name in Australia. Their goal is to
