oin Variety – the Children’s Charity of WA, and thousands of other families as they get into the Christmas spirit at Perth’s premier carols event at the picturesque Langley P ark on Sunday 18 December. For the first time in 72 years, the IGA Carols by Candlelight for Variety will be a free event – giving all WA families the opportunity to participate in this iconic Perth Christmas tradition. The day will also start at the new time of 1pm, making it a fantastic family day out. Grab a spot and enjoy an afternoon of show rides, face painting, food stalls and pre carols onstage entertainment featuring Wasamba – Freo’s Carnival Drummers, and the Mighty Marvel Essence of Christmas Show, followed by autographs and photos with Spiderman, Ironman and Mrs Claus.

A new year of learning

The evening will finish with a bang – a fireworks spectacular over the Swan River. “We are thrilled to have performances from a wide range of Australian talent, but I am most looking forward to seeing the kids singing along and enjoying a real family event,” Variety WA CEO, Michael Pailthorpe said. “Christmas is such a special time that brings families together and we are so ex cited to be able to partner with our generous sponsors to make this a free event for the first time in its 72 year history. This will allow all WA families the opportunity to enjoy this iconic Perth Christmas tradition, all whilst raising funds to help empower WA kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn.” All funds raised on the day will support Variety WA and children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.

A

s 2016 comes to a close, we start to reflect on the past year of joys, disappointments, concerns and hopes for the future. Parents need to ask themselves: • Has your child had a difficult year? • Are they disappointed with their achievements? • Do you feel their needs are not being met by the school system? • Did they perform poorly in NAPLAN? • Does your child avoid written work, spell poorly and prefer not to read? • Are they beginning Grade One next year? • Would you like your child to begin 2017 on a more positive note?

When the sun goes down and the candles are lit, the stage will be illuminated with a carols spectacular hosted by Channel Nine’s Louise Momber and Michael Thompson and headlined by top selling Australian artist Anthony Callea.

The 2016 IGA Carols by Candlelight for Variety is presented by IGA and sponsored by The City of Perth, Lotterywest, Act Belong Commit, Splash City, Nine Perth, The Sunday Times/Perth Now and Nova 93.7

Other special guests will include Chris and Courtney Murphy, Robbie Anderson (The Voice Kids), the Variety Youth Choir and a host of other WA talent.

The long Christmas break is an ex cellent opportunity for children to catch up and get confident before Term 1 in the New Year. Children are more relaxed and receptive during the break and academic results are much higher. Often children forget valuable concepts and their IQ levels tend to dip during

January. You can make sure this doesn’t happen by enrolling your children at the International Centre of Excellence during this time. Victoria Carlton and her dedicated teaching team have planned a full January program of academic and creative holiday programs that are designed to help your child shoot for the stars in 2017. Bookings are now open and working parents can take care of the extended hours and early drop-off times. “Our results are very high during holiday times as the children are well rested, relaxed and very receptive. We help them to catch up and then show them some of the more difficult concepts they will meet during the New Year.” Victoria said. To find out more about these affordable packages call ICE on 9271 4200 or email iceinfo@iinet.net.au Alternatively, visit www.ice-au.com for details. Victoria Carlton will also be adding weekly Christmas and holiday learning ideas and tips to their Facebook page.
