The basics do matter
Opening up the world of learning in-centre and on-line
by Victoria Carlton, Director International Centre for Excellence
By Julie Courtis (Willetton) ip McGrath Education centres have been providing individualised learning programmes for children in Australia for over 35 years. Experienced teachers provide support for students who find school work difficult, for children wishing to excel or who are preparing for exams.
K
Now, Online Tutoring opens up a whole new world of opportunities for children to be tutored at home with a qualified, caring teacher taking the lesson in real time. Kip McGrath’s multimillion dollar advances in technology allow children to access the proven methods of tuition only previously available in-centre. All you need is an up to date computer and an internet connection. At Kip McGrath, students work on individually designed programs with computer and manual activities to revise and consolidate their learning. They learn how to learn as well as what to learn. Homework tasks are specifically designed to revise and consolidate the teaching and learning which takes place during sessions. Early intervention and development of confidence are the keys to getting on top of any issues that your child may be having with learning. By identifying areas needing attention, individualising programs, using quality resources
and professional tutors, Kip McGrath Education Centres are able to help students move forward with their learning, with particular emphasis on English and Maths skills. All students can learn, given the right teaching and tutors at Kip McGrath Centres pride themselves on assessing, devising programs and quality teaching to give students the opportunity to reach their full potential.
very day teachers at ICE see casualties of the “fuzzy think” approach to education. They see children who cannot read, spell, write coherently and cannot perform the simplest of mental maths functions.
E
Just ask the really simple questions: Can my child read, write and spell? Can my child add, subtract, multiply and divide?
If you are concerned about your child’s academic achievements in 2014 or believe that he/she is not reaching their true potential, call your local Kip McGrath Education Centre today and discuss the in-centre and online options available.
Many parents have been told basic processes such as tables no longer matter. This is errant nonsense. Children need their tables to be able to problem solve, divide and perform many simple maths tasks in the workplace and at home.
Parents gain peace of mind and support by bringing their children to Kip McGrath. Proven methods gain results! They are here to help.
They also need to be able to write proper sentences that contain nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives and to know which is which.
For further information and to book your free assessment visit the Kip McGrath websites at www.kipmcgrath.com.au and www.kiponline.com.au or call: Balcatta (9240 2335), Booragoon (9330 4003), Ellenbrook (9297 3654), Gosnells (9490 7822), Jandakot (9414 8088), Joondalup (9301 2334), Mundaring (9295 6255), North Perth (9227 1043), Victoria Park (9472 7480) or Willetton (9259 4833).
Let us get back to basics: teach the children to read and appreciate books, spell well and write in a flowing manner. Teach them their tables and how to add, subtract, multiply and divide. These skills can be taught in creative ways with plenty of problem solving built in to the program. Children love to master new
concepts and have success with their learning. They are naturally curious learners and will rise to the expectations we set. It is time to raise the bar! This is not new stuff. It’s not even a radical idea. It is a heartfelt plea to give our children a chance, to give them the proper foundations for learning. The basics are not boring, they are the lifeblood of education and provide the key to well informed and successful futures. All subjects are unavailable to a child who cannot read. All sciences and understanding of abstract thoughts are lost to those who cannot grasp the concepts of basic maths and logic. All professions are unavailable to children who lack the “basics”. Teachers at ICE offer the “basics”. Victoria Carlton’s vision is to help all children reach their full potential. They may not all win Nobel prizes or become university professors, but that will not be because they weren’t given a chance to learn. They will at least have the basics; the best foundation to be able to choose any profession they wish.
