sounds from the world acclaimed Jolly Phonics program and therefore start to blend sounds in an effortless way to make simple words. Children on this program are generally over 12 months ahead with reading and spelling skills.

Attending children are given help to develop each of their 8 intelligences within a rich, multisensory program. They are assisted to develop specific talents such as art and music and also learn the beginning concepts for literacy and numeracy skills.

Early literacy research has shown that young children who are taught with a synthetic phonics program achieve at high levels when they commence formal schooling.

The centre is extraordinarily well equipped with books, learning games and learning manipulative equipment from all over the world, to ensure maximum learning for all children. The ICE teachers are specially trained to teach in creative, engaging ways to maximise progress and ensure that every child reaches their full potential. “Our aim is to help these children develop both creative and academic skills,” says Victoria Carlton, Director of educational Programs at ICE. “We believe that early preparation of young minds will promote flexible thinking, imagination, creativity and basic literacy and numeracy skills.” The children learn the unique actions and

The children are all helped to learn and consolidate beginning maths concepts so they will be at a high stage of readiness for formal maths programs when they commence school. Children are introduced to well researched, engaging and exciting maths equipment such as Cuisenaire and Numicon. Victoria Carlton is convinced of the importance of early maths learning. “It is vital that children see and touch the maths equipment to really understand the important beginning maths concepts. Maths is a ‘building–block’ subject and we must ensure that every concept is thoroughly taught.” Parents wishing to know more about ICECREAMS program can call ICE on 9271 4200, email on iceinfo@iinet.net.au or check the website www.ice-au.com

ell, feedback from the 7000 WA parents who have already completed courses with Behaviour Tonics proves that every parent can benefit from gaining more knowledge, and practical ‘real world’ strategies that actually work. Yesterday they took a call from a parent who was prompted by their signage to reflect on the imbalance between time spent on workplace training versus time invested to improve his knowledge in parenting. His estimate was work 30hrs, parenting nil. As a committed parent he was alarmed by this, which lead him to consider where his priorities lay and motivated him to contact Behaviour Tonics. For whatever reason, many parents only think about parenting in the moment, and that often means making parenting decisions when they are feeling angry, frustrated and emotional. This can lead you to yell and argue with your kids - and also your partner - leaving everyone feeling bad. If this is the case in your home then it’s up

to you as the adult to learn to do something different and make the change. Parenting can be fun! Behaviour Tonics empowers parents and carers to enjoy parenting, family life, and form lasting relationships through simple and practical strategies. In their efforts to attain this, it is inevitable that at some point, they’ll be called upon to address issues such as difficult behaviour, bullying, poor social and communication skills, while at the same time teaching self-regulation, empathy, independence and other life skills. You can learn this by attending parenting courses or private consults with their qualified and experienced staff, who are all parents themselves. Based in Perth, Behaviour Tonics has established themselves as a reputable provider of parent, professional and teacher education. Check The Parents’ Paper diary to view a list of upcoming courses.
