What’s in your Wiggly Yum Box? By Nicole Ohm – mum and manager at Brownes Dairy
A
ll parents of preschoolers have one thing in common: not leaving the house without a lunchbox full of snacks to keep our mini humans happily grazing throughout the day. We call this the Yum Box! And we know what a challenge it can be to find snacks that are nutritious and natural – as well as tasty and fun! Brownes Dairy and The Wiggles have partnered to bring you the perfect Yum Box addition – yummy and healthy little yoghurt pouches with no added sugar. So what’s so special about these new yoghurt pouches? Let’s take a look: • No added sugar – and no sugar alternatives • Lactose free – the benefits of dairy whilst being gentle on little tummies • Added pre + pro-biotics – to aid digestive health • Whole milk – made in WA from fresh full
cream milk from our South West (low food miles!) • Gluten and gelatin free (of course) • Recyclable packaging via REDcycle • Loved by The Wiggles! Brownes Dairy are proud partners of The Wiggles, recognising how great it is to have positive role models our children can learn from. We are giving WA Wiggles fans the chance not only to see The Wiggles in concert, but to enjoy a meet-and-greet at the upcoming Wiggles Party Time! Big Show! concert. All you have to do is enjoy any of the delicious Brownes Dairy natural yoghurt range – including the new Wiggles pouches – and enter the unique code from the sticker on pack. There are over 300 prizes to be won, including 10 family passes to meet The Wiggles. Happy Wiggling! www.brownesdairy.com.auv
Play and language development
L
earning to play is one of the most essential skills a child can have. Through play, children learn how things work, how to share and talk with other children, how to play with toys and how to enter a world of make-believe. Play also has a flow-on effect to other areas of your child’s development, including their confidence, self-esteem and ability to enjoy the experience of being a child. Play is also a great time to work on your child’s communication skills without them even knowing they are ‘being taught’ – it’s just having fun with mum and dad! • Whether it’s a teddy bears picnic or an army of animals taking over the world, the play options with toys are limited only by your child’s imagination. Help your child discover new words and sentences by getting down to their eye level and talk to them about what their toys are doing, what they look like, or how the toys may sound if they had a voice. • Puzzles and board games can help children develop their strategic thinking

skills. Children can increase their vocabulary by naming items on puzzle pieces, learning shape names and sizes and practicing turn-taking with others. • The world is a playground and outdoor activities can help children learn about the physical world around them. A treasure hunt in the garden with a few simple rules can help children learn about following instructions (‘Can you find a flower and then come back to me?’), understand basic concepts (‘Can you get me a big leaf and a little leaf?’) and work on their physical development (‘Jump to get the leaf, then skip back to me’). Telethon Speech & Hearing’s Talkabout program is a specialised language program for children who are experiencing speech and language difficulties. Talkabout’s play-based learning is delivered through a team of passionate educational and clinical specialists, with an all-inclusive support network for parents and families.
