HOUSE MONTH OF THE
ADD COLOUR TO BATHROOM DÉCOR
The owners wanted to create a timeless home that would age well, the couple had gathered lots of pieces of furniture over the years. It was only a matter of moving things around or finding a new place in another part of the Home, to improve the flow. The interior design scheme was chosen to bring out the character of the home, choosing materials suited to the existing interior decor and furniture and also with the introduction of new design elements. Space planning and room layouts are often areas that are over-looked and neglected, but it is one of the key components of an interior design project as seen on this job. The correct colour scheme and selection of fabrics helps to bring everything together and disguise any mistakes.
SITTING ROOM''THE THINKING ROOM'' It was just a question of making better use of the space, the previous layout
of the room was not working. Changing this was crucial in order to make the room flow, it changed the whole look of the space and made it more functional. The next step was finding a place for the paintings. A gallery wall was created to display all the beautiful art the owners had collected over the years
METALLIC ELEMENTS COMBINED WITH EARTHY COLOURS The metallic theme runs through the building. The master bedroom was made richer and intimate looking by introducing a metallic sheen fabric from Belgium and textured wallpaper from the US.
SPA LOOK BATHROOM The main bathroom has been turned into a private spa by putting in the high panelling and a funky wallpaper. The idea here is to take the mind off the everyday thoughts and bring you to a place that feels different and helps you to relax.
THEMED BEDROOMS All the upstairs bedrooms are designed differently in order to give each area a theme. This helps to make the overall interior design scheme visually more attractive. The long boys bedroom was made cosier by adding a custom built bed and beams, done by a local carpenter. The old wardrobes were painted the same as the walls to bring them up to date.
DINING AREA The curtain fabric of the dining area helps to bring the outside in. The mauve stripe material was a special order as well as the roman blinds. The cashmere colour roman blinds have a herringbone design. This connects well with the wallpaper pattern. Layering different textures, fabrics and colours has helped to create a sense of luxury, warmth and making this house into family home. Interior design by

THE LATEST STYLISH BATHROOM
TRENDS FOR 2018 ADD COLOUR TO BATHROOM DÉCOR “Colour in the bathroom is an upcoming trend – or rather a revival,” according to Marlene Presa, UK marketing manager of Villeroy & Boch. Colour is definitely sneaking back into our lives and our interiors which living with our grey skies can only be a good thing. Colour and texture can be introduced in a number of ways, from geometric tiles to coloured shower panels, vanity tops and basins, or even with accessories.
LUXURY STANDALONE BATHS The star of many contemporary schemes is the freestanding tub. If you’re short on space, designers have created options that work in small spaces. It’s possible to choose anything from a compact slipper bath to more luxurious bateau or roll top. Continue on page 40

THE LATEST STYLISH
BATHROOM TRENDS FOR 2018 SLEEK WOOD EFFECTS Everything from Scandi design influences to the trend for natural materials has driven the popularity of sleek wood. Timber’s versatility has been another driving force, with pale planks creating a light, airy look, knotted and gnarled woods bringing a rustic feel and darker tones being used to add a shot of drama. It brings warmth to a contemporary scheme, and authenticity to a traditional bathroom. With tiles looking more and more like the real thing you can have the best of both worlds.
GO BLACK AND WHITE It’s time to fall back in love with monochrome. Edgy black bathrooms are all over Instagram but the black and white theme lets you embrace this trend without going the full hog! Used for accents,
surfaces and focal-point pieces, they’re the perfect way to introduce moody tones without sacrificing light from a space.
SPA BATHROOMS Design experts agree there has been a shift in the role of the bathroom from practical room to additional living area. As it has become a place to spend more time relaxing, its decor has changed, too. Soft furnishings, storage that resembles furniture and chic lighting fixtures are now the norm alongside indulgent rainfall showers, recessed mirrors and open shelving. The bathroom is no longer just a small room to wash in, with increasingly busy lives it has become a retreat, so it makes sense to include an indulgent drench shower or spa-style bath.
MIX MATERIALS Bathrooms are the perfect space to explore the use of mixed materials, with taps and accessories for the bathroom now in every colour metal you can imagine, and the use of mirrors as a feature is a great chance to apply the trend of mixed metals.
JACK AND JILL BATHROOMS Twin features, such as his and hers basins, double-ended baths and pairs of cabinets are a nod to the styling seen in boutique hotels. As well as being practical, these also appeal to our symmetrical selves. As we all know, every minute counts in the morning
and although we may all crave his and hers bathrooms for the sake of our marriages, its not really an option for most of us. The Jack and Jill sinks are the next best thing.
INSTALL A WET ROOM Opting for a wet room in place of a shower enclosure continues to be a big trend, but there’s a move to add more features and make it less of a plain space, add some storage space and a feature with some recessed selves. There’s also an emphasis on unique glass effects that provide extra character and style.
