Keith's perfectly timed photo is a winner
| By Michelle Crean
He might have waited patiently for two hours but it was well worth it for amateur photographer Keith Johnson. His image of a bird in flight trying to catch a fish won the most recent Water/Reflections theme Killarney Camera Club competition.
28 images were submitted in total. The top three in each category are as follows:
Novice category:
1st Place: Katie Angland, Gougane Barra Reflection
2nd Place: Trish Scully, Reflections at Dundag
3rd Place: Klaudia Topór, Water Reflection
Unrestricted category:
1st Place: Keith Johnson, Water Reflections
2nd Place: Conor Healy, The Jersey
3rd Place: Paul Garnett, Buttermere Reflections
Keith gave the following insight into his winning image.
“I used my Canon 5D with a 200mm lens, a 5.6 aperture, 1250 shutter speed and 400 ISO. I was just about close enough to get the shot, and I probably spent over two hours waiting to get the bird in the frame. I first pre-focused an area where I hoped the bird would be. I took numerous quick shots in succession and this one worked best. I am happy with the result. It's sharp with a good reflection which was what I was aiming for.”
The next presentation is online on April 20 on the Zoom platform by landscape photographer Ruth Grindrod. Anyone interested in joining the camera club can email secretary@killarneycameraclub.ie.
