PAGE SIX Killarney boys storm the internet with Irish music video BY MICHELLE CREAN
Young Killarney students have made the Irish language cool again - as their music video stormed across the internet this week – with almost 415,000 views. The boys, Transition Year students from St Brendan’s College Killarney - The Sem, were amazed at the hugely positive reaction – as their version of British Grime artist Stormzy’s ‘Shut Up’ went viral. Filmed at the school just before the midterm break - the boys took on the style of Stormzy’s own video – which received 81 million views on YouTube earlier this year. The rapper also won Best Grime Act at the 2014 and 2015 MOBO Awards and was named as an artist to look out for in the BBC’s Influential Sound of 2015 list. Now all they’re hoping for is that the top music rapper will see it and get in touch, music teacher Niamh O’Connell explained. “We just need Stormzy to see it now,” Niamh told The Killarney Advertiser this week. “It would be brilliant if Stormzy acknowledged it.” The video came about after Irish teacher Jamie Mac Giolla Bhríde came up with the idea of entering the boys into Irish schools competition Ghaelfíseáin do Bliain na Gaeilge 2018. The idea was to help them to learn Irish in a fun and

unconventional way to make the subject interesting, Jamie added. “I was looking for something to do for Irish class to promote the language,” Jamie said. “I saw the competition and the boys picked the song. I then translated the song with them.” Niamh added that the students had plenty of input including choosing words relevant to them in the song – for example changing Mobo Award to
Gaisce Award. They recorded the song in the school’s chapel over two days, then filmed it outside, and edited the final version together. “They had to be clear, audible, and the rhythm of the song had to be right. The boys are very happy with it. We then put it online and the views exploded. We knew it was good but we didn’t expect such a positive reaction.”
Official opening of new Kerry Central Regional Water Treatment Plant BY MICHELLE CREAN
One of the largest water treatment plants in the country - a €30 million water treatment plant in Lough Guitane - was officially opened on Monday. The new facility will ensure safe drinking water for half the Kerry population, including Killarney, Tralee, Castleisland and Castlemaine, as well as 1.2m tourists to the county each year. The new Kerry Central Regional Water Treatment Plant, which provides 51 million litres of water a day, has a hydroelectric power turbine for the intake of water, state-of-the-art water filtration, disinfection, chlorination and fluoridation capability; as well as capacity to store 15 million litres of treated water the equivalent of six Olympic sized swimming pools. As a result of the upgrade and investment by Irish Water, it was confirmed last week the Kerry Central Regional Water Supply Scheme has been removed from EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL) or ‘at risk’ water supplies. Construction on the two year project commenced on site in April 2016 and included the construction of a new water treatment plant at Lough Guitane and associated upgrade works on existing infrastructure. On Monday, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin and Cllr Norma Foley, Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, performed the official opening at the plant in the company of Moira Murrell, Chief Executive of Kerry County Council, Mike Quinn CEO of Ervia,

Eamon Gallen Managing Director of Irish Water and special guests. “These works represent a very important step forward for the county,” Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Norma Foley, said. “It is great to see Irish Water investing in projects such as this and I pay tribute to their staff and our own local authority personnel who have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition. I look forward to more days like today when we will again see investment that will deliver upgraded facilities and services to the benefit of the people of Kerry.” Minister of State Brendan Griffin added that he was
pleased to be in attendance for the official opening of what is a vital piece of water infrastructure. “Killarney is rightly regarded as one of Ireland’s top tourism destinations and providing a secure supply of clean, safe drinking water for the 62,000 residents here and in the Tralee and Castleisland areas, as well as the 1.2m tourists that visit the area every year, is essential to the quality of life and development potential of the area,” he said. “This €30 million investment in water infrastructure, which is one of the largest water treatment plants in the country, brings very significant benefits to this community now and into the future.”

Chef Collab raises funds for pregnant widow of tragic drowning victim BY MICHELLE CREAN
Dan Linehan’s Bar, where young chefs including James McGrath, Wiktoria Witkowska, Chris Scully, Valentin Chiras and Leon Carter, produced some outstanding dishes. They began with starters for 85 guests, followed by fish and meat main courses, finishing up with a selection of desserts. “The event is done at cost price for guests on the night to showcase the young chef’s talents,” Chad said. “We organise an event once a month locally.” Chad set up the programme in April this year collaborating with members of the community, chefs and suppliers. He says he has had massive support from the community since it began. “It’s a credit to Killarney that every event has sold out,” he said. “There’s a bit of a chef shortage and this industry gets bad press such as long working hours. I am just trying to make this industry better and share out the positives.” The next Killarney event is planned for November 28, but the venue is yet to be confirmed, he added. On the same night they will also run a Chef Collab event in Cork for 250 people. He is also travelling to New York with a team from the programme in January. “Chef Collab has gone from strength to strength,” he said.

It wasn’t just top food served up in Killarney on Monday night - but plenty of kindness - as funds were raised for the widow of a tragic Latvian man - who lost his life at sea in Cahersiveen last month. Local chef Chad Byrne, who set up Chef Collab - a night for young chefs to showcase their talents - organised a fundraiser for the pregnant widow of 38 yearold Jurjis Burcves - who, along with two friends, died after drowning while out fishing near Coonanna Harbour. A total of €540 was collected and will be donated to his widow Emma, Chad, who worked with kitchen porter Jurjis in the Brehon Hotel, explained. “Jurjis was a very calm, relaxed and quite a shy person,” Chad, Executive Head Chef at Danú Restaurant in The Brehon Hotel, told The Killarney Advertiser. “He just got married a month before he died and we just wanted to help out.” He added, that although Chef Collab is about helping young chefs, it’s also about all the people who work in the culinary industry. “Chef Collab is not just about chefs, it’s about all the people who work in the kitchen. It’s nice to have everyone’s back. To me everyone is important on my team.” Monday’s successful event was held in
Shock at tragic death of kayaker BY MICHELLE CREAN
The Marine Casualty Investigation Board are investigating the cause into the tragic death of a kayaker in Kilgarvan on Sunday. Brita Waters, believed to be in her 30s and originally from Waterford but living in Dublin, lost her life when she got into difficulty while out on the Roughty River, Kilgarvan, with a group of five friends. The alarm was raised around lunchtime and emergency services and local volunteers conducted an extensive search. However, some time later Ms Waters was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Local TD Michael Healy-Rae told The Killarney Advertiser this week that the news has left the Kilgarvan community deeply shocked and saddened. “As the local TD, myself and the entire community are devastated for the family at their loss,” Mr Healy-Rae said. “On behalf of the people of Kerry we extend our sympathies to her family.” He added that a huge search was conducted in the area including emergency services and local volunteers. “There was a massive team involved and they were all so professional. We are all just so saddened that her young life could not be saved.”
Late Brita Waters
The river, he added, is a very popular spot for water sport enthusiasts from all over the country. “It’s an ideal river for the sport. People come from all over to this river. They’re very professional, experienced and very safety conscious. It just seems to be a freak accident.” He added that it’s a long time since such a tragedy hit the community. “The last incident was a 15 year-old boy on a school
trip who lost his life in the same river years ago.” A statement on the Canoeing Ireland Facebook page, said that on behalf of the board of directors and staff, they are deeply shocked at the news. ‘Canoeing Ireland is deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life due to an incident on the River Roughty, Co. Kerry. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the deceased’s family and friends at this very sad time’.

TOWNTALK Weldon to coach Plans to upgrade Irish Women’s team Fairhill pedestrian
crossing BY MICHELLE CREAN
“We’re sorting one problem & creating another” - Cllr Kelleher
Kerry County Council ‘are sorting one problem but creating another’, according to Cllr Niall Kelleher - amid concerns for the upgrade of a pedestrian crossing at Fairhill in the town centre. In protest, Cllr Kelleher abstained from voting for the proposed upgrade, at Wednesday’s Killarney Municipal District meeting, which was held in Castleisland. Upgraded plans include a low kerb to allow the Royal Hotel access the laneway to the East of their property as well as construct a 2m by 4m build out with bollards immediately to the East of the KDYS entrance. Mr Kelleher said the proposed plans, which also include upgrading the existing crossing to a zebra crossing with revisions to kerb lines, loading bays, reduction of carriageway to 6.5 metres and construction of a kerbed island linking the crossing to the existing island at the exit from the Friary roundabout – are a concern. “I’m in favour of the proposed works but I don’t think you’ve dealt with any issues that may arise,” he told Council members. “There are three hotels in the vicinity and no accommodation is being made for them. “There are concerns for busses, commercial vehicles and unloading on that road. I just think we haven’t thought this out properly. We’re solving one problem and creating another.” At the meeting the Council also said that all businesses adjacent to the proposed pedestrian crossing were visited by MD staff and given a copy of the drawings. ‘Killarney MD staff will liaise with all businesses in the Fairhill area during the construction of these works’, the Council added. The Killarney Royal Hotel and the Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS) made observations during the public consultation phase, and both are in favour of the changes. All other councillors present voted in favour of the works to proceed.
Businesses to be consulted on continued Plunkett St pedestrianisation At Wednesday’s Killarney Municipal meeting, which was held in Castleisland, Cllr JJ Culloty sought an update regarding the pedestrianisation of Plunkett Street. In their reply, Kerry County Council said that at the Municipal District meeting of March 28 this year, it was resolved to pedestrianise Plunkett Street all year around from 7pm to 7am. ‘Trials of daytime pedestrianisation also took place during the Summer months. Kerry County Council will look for the views of all businesses on Plunkett Street and it is proposed to revert to members with further proposals for pedestrianisation’.
James Weldon will coach the Irish Women’s team until 2020. Pic: Eamonn Keogh
BY EAMONN KEOGH Killarney man James Weldon has been appointed Head Coach of the Ireland Senior Women’s team. Weldon, who will take the reins until the end of the 2020 FIBA Women’s European Championship for Small Countries, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He recently qualified as a certified FECC (FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate) coach and he is certainly no stranger to top-level jobs. He has been involved with international level coaching on numerous occasions over the past number of years, including roles as Head Coach of the Irish Senior Women’s Select team (2012, 2013 and 2015), assistant coach to Hibernia Senior Men’s team (2015) and Head Coach of the Irish Under 18 Women’s team (2005, 2007 and 2013). The popular coach, who lined out for St Paul’s Killarney in the Super League during a successful playing career, guided the St Paul’s ladies team through an impressive stint in the top flight before going on to enjoy incredible success with the all-conquering University of Limerick Huskies. He coached UL to 10 national titles in four seasons and was honoured with the Irish Basketball Coach of the Year award on three different occasions. James also worked with the Kerry senior football team for the 2018 campaign. “I’m honoured that I have been afforded this opportunity by the EPC and the Women’s Committee,” James said. “My coaching team and I will do everything we can over the next year and a half to get the players up to the required levels for international basketball. Over the next few months we will be scouting the leagues, monitoring players and potential players abroad. It’s an exciting time to be involved with the team.” Chair of the EPC and MNCC Bernard O’Byrne said he was “delighted” with the appointment. “We would like to thank the other candidates who applied for the position,” O’Byrne added. “The applications were of a very high standard which bodes well for the future of the women’s game.” Chairperson of the WNLC, Breda Dick confirmed that Weldon was their first choice. “There was tough competition for the position,” she said, “but the panel was unanimous with their selection. The WNLC would like to wish him the very best with the role.”
Café rules mean children will not be seen or heard BY ANNE LUCEY
A café in Tipperary will ensure that children are not only not heard, but not seen either. It operates in Birdhill and got a lot of headlines last week with its ‘no children allowed’ policy. It hasn’t provoked half the debate it should, partly because parents say they love it.
But I think back to when children were banned from pubs after 9pm, and there was furore. Now has Ireland changed, or what? And where are the politically correct crowd on this? One suspects that children are not a priority grouping. But surely they are a minority? I think it high time the left got out on this and started
frothing at the mouth. We should all foam at the attitude to children in society and how this cafe copperfastens the old idea they are a nuisance. But you see, children and indeed young people have never been the priority amongst the powerful in this society, regardless of which orthodoxy, left or right.

A major flooding issue, which has plagued homeowners in the Foiladown and Glenflesk areas for decades is soon to come to an end, as councillors unanimously voted in favour of flood relief works this week. At Wednesday’s Killarney Municipal District meeting, held in Castleisland, councillors voted in favour of the construction of a 130 metre long reinforced concrete retaining wall tying into a flood defence embankment of 125 metres in length. The proposed works, which are approximately 500m South West of Garries Bridge on the local L7059 road, will potentially protect three local houses from future flooding. Families in the area have been hit hard by flooding for many decades, including more recently in December 2014 when the levels of water rose to 900mm. Cllr Donal O’Grady said that it was ‘an awful way for families to live’, while Cllr Michael Gleeson said ‘flooding has been an issue in the area going back as far as the 1940s’. “I know of the damage water can do,” Cllr Gleeson said. “I support the clearing of the banks. The Council has to be able to secure these homes.” However, residents in the Foiladown and Glenflesk areas are very concerned about the proposed works They have requested that these works do not go ahead until the River Flesk is cleared of all obstructions, bushes, and blockages such as gravel and silt. In response, Kerry County Council said that a separate application has also been made to the OPW for flood relief works, involving the clearance of vegetation along the River Flesk. ‘The council has been actively engaging with the OPW on securing the funding sought in this application and are in a position to commence the works as soon as funding is approved. ‘It is considered that the proposed development, which will provide protection to three properties on the L7059 from flooding from the River Flesk, is in accordance with the provisions of the Kerry County Council Development Plan 2000-2017’.

News Briefs ... Book signing by Kerry authors The authors of the newly published ‘A Century of Politics in the Kingdom: A County Kerry Compendium’, Gordon Revington and Owen O’Shea will sign copies of their book at Eason, Killarney, on Saturday, 10th November from 12pm to 2pm. They will also deliver an illustrated lecture on Friday 16th November at the CYMS Hall, Killorglin, at 8pm, entitled ‘A Century of Politics in the Kingdom - the mid-Kerry politicians who made their mark on the national political stage’. The free talk is being hosted by the Killorglin History and Folklore Society and will feature the stories of ground-breaking politicians from the greater Killorglin area, including Timothy ‘Chub’ O’Connor, Jack Flynn, Professor John Marcus O’Sullivan, Edmund Horan, and the McGillycuddy of the Reeks.
Speed limit changes proposed for Killarney town junctions At Wednesday’s meeting of Killarney Municipal District, Cllr Michael Gleeson proposed that Kerry County Council provide an update on the progress towards solving the problems and dangers associated with the Coolcaslagh and Ballycasheen junctions. Kerry County Council replied that a feasibility report has been issued to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) in relation to these two junctions. The potential solutions will be further developed in 2019 in consultation with the TII. It is envisaged that an integrated solution for both junctions together with the section of the N22 from Lissivigeen Roundabout to Park Road Roundabout will be developed, incorporating speed limit changes at the locations. The proposals, once developed and appraised, will be issued to the TII for funding approval in Quarter 3/Quarter 4 2019.

By remembering war, are we actually celebrating it? BY ANNE LUCEY
On Sunday the 11th of the 11th at 11am the bells will ring in every church in France to mark the 100th anniversary of the ending of the Great War, whose devastation was felt in every village and town and in every commune. In France the war was worse than most. The country lost almost 1.4 million people, second only to Russia. France had over 6 million wounded and crippled, twice that of Great Britain, which included Ireland. The Great War has not been forgotten there. In the Touraine, the garden steppe of France as it were, as you cycle along the miles and miles of sunflower heads and golden corn you will come across, all of a sudden, sepia villages tumbling down all asleep but for their towering, wellkept monuments, “aux enfants”, with dozens of names. Sometimes these names are the same, and you wonder of course were the two Pelés, Camille and Louis, in the run-down village of Guesnes brothers? Were Alphonse and Ludovic Dinet related among the 20 in this tiny village who gave their lives? It doesn’t tell you where they died or on what battlefield. There are other names in other wars, “morts pour la France”, on these monuments - the Second World War, and some names too in Indochina and possibly Algeria, but they are always fewer. There is no shame about the Great War in France (as there is in Ireland for instance, which is conflicted about the war that changed not just the world, but Ireland too). There is just tragedy, sadness for the fallen, and perhaps pride. It has never properly been examined, of course, the aftermath of that Great War, the speeding up of greater mechanisation to replace the fallen manhood of several nations, the madness it provoked, the awful mental health issues which surely touched generations, the loss of the gentry in England, the loss of the Anglo-Irish in Ireland, the 600,000 widows and the 700,000 orphans in France alone, and the thousands of dead civilians. The fact it wasn’t finished. And within 21 years, there was another war. The Great War did not end all wars, it was not over by Christmas. We have had other European wars, just as dirty, not least in Bosnia, not least in Northern Ireland. The great danger with war is that by remembering it, you actually celebrate it. There has always been a debate
As he tours the battlefields of Normandy, Macron is already calling for a European army about whether a war can ever be just, whether the use of terrible violence and rape and pillage and destruction ever achieves anything. I am inclined to the view that nothing is ever achieved, no matter how “just” the cause. I felt that during the 2016 commemorations/celebrations - there was too much militarism, too much pomp and ceremony about what were often sordid botched affairs. Casement’s state commemoration in Banna was full of such military pomp - ignoring completely the guns from the Aud would have killed people, and the sorry and miserable and mishandled affair the whole landing thing actually was. Ditto, several other commemorations and glorifications of cars going over cliffs etc etc… Mort pour l’Irlande? I am not at all certain. In some respects, of course, the 11th of the 11th at 11am is also the commemoration of a needless, stupid war, born of pride, growing nationalism and imperialism, and which overlooked the human pain. And the origins of that war, its consequences, badly need to be examined. But what worries me more is what all this unleashing and commemorations may lead to. As he tours the battlefields of Normandy and Picardy - the region is like one huge graveyard of German, French, American, Canadians and Irish - Macron is already calling for a European army. This time we need to defend ourselves against the Russians and the Americans, Macron says. Apparently Germany will give him their backing.
Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others The correspondence between the Spanish Inquisition and political correctness has intrigued me with some time. The Inquisition had its origins in purifying medieval Catholicism, in “rooting out” imperfections and mind-sets derived from the Jews or other non-Catholics. Political correctness tries to root out biased, traditional beliefs that it maintains have strayed into our thinking. The inquisitors believed the imperfections hurtful to God; the political correctors believe imperfect, non-left thinking are hurtful to man, especially to minorities. But both have a tendency towards the farcical. The reaction to Peter Casey’s assertions about Travellers has been so extreme I can’t help thinking the same puritanical mind-set that was there during the worst of the inquisition in Spain, for instance, has rebranded itself as “humanist” and politically correct. It is the same impulse. But both wear the inquisitor’s cap, and are in charge. “Inquisitors would arrive in a town and announce their
presence, giving citizens a chance to admit to heresy. Those who confessed received a punishment ranging from a pilgrimage to a whipping. Those accused of heresy were forced to testify. If the heretic did not confess, torture and execution were inescapable. Heretics weren’t allowed to face accusers, received no counsel, and were often victims of false accusations,” I read. The impulse in both is to crush any kind of diversity, or any kind of straying from the orthodoxy of the day. The impulse in both is to silence. And, of course, what is happening at the moment is everyone is pushed to extremes. The Democrats in the US have realised their mistake in name-calling Trump and his followers - they have not done nearly as well as they hoped in the midterm elections. It is not just Trump who gives out about political correctness (and I am no fan of Trump, by the way). It seems to have its origins in Stalinist Russian, via Mao Tse Tung’s Little Red Book on how to purify the communist ideology, and this was adopted by feminists and by the
“left” in 1960s America. It is now pervasive, and universities are turning away people they don’t agree with, a thing that is incredible to someone of my generation. In 1991, President George HW Bush identified political correctness as a major danger to free speech and diverse opinion in America. In the UK at the moment, the left are baying for the blood of the philosopher Sir Roger Scruton, saying he is not fit to chair a committee on the style of buildings because of opinions he expressed 30 years ago on gay marriage, and date rape, oh, and the isolation of Jews in Hungary. We have had a taste of the madness here in the presidential election. If people are not robust enough to take criticism without shouting racist and bigot at every turn, then maybe we in England and in Ireland should call ourselves something other than a democracy. I think we are quickly becoming that most Orwellian of States: “all people are equal, but some people are more equal than others!”

Plough on
Ploughing enthusiasts from all over the country descended on Fossa last Sunday as the Killarney Ploughing Association held its second points competition on the grounds of Coffey’s farm. The weather held tough and a fantastic day of friendly competition was enjoyed by all. It was a big day for Coleman Colgan from Sligo who has set himself the goal of ploughing a field in every county in Ireland. Now that he has Kerry ticked off the list, the only remaining county is Cork. The journey has taken him three years. “It was great – it was a very successful event,” said Siobhán Wharton, PRO of the Killarney Ploughing Association. “In total, 20 competitors came from all over the country. “Coffey’s farm is a fantastic location, overlooking Lough Leane, and a lot of people commented on how nice it was.” Siobhán also confirmed that the popular points competition will be a yearly occurrence moving forward.

NEWS Rescue services honoured with O’Flaherty Award
18
Three life-saving organisations were honoured in Killarney House on Saturday as Kerry Mountain Rescue, the Irish Coast Guard and the RNLI were presented with the prestigious Hugh O’Flaherty Humanitarian Award. It was the first time in the award’s history that it was presented to more than one recipient. Jimmy Laide (Kerry Mountain Rescue), John Draper (Irish Coast Guard) and Richard Quigley (RNLI) accepted the award on behalf of their respective organisations. Together they asked attendees to remember their colleagues who gave their lives over the past years, while saving lives numbering in the hundreds of thousands. “The brave and selfless members of the Irish Rescue Services deserve not only our admiration but our practical support in whatever way we can,” said Mayor of Killarney John Sheahan, who presented the awards. The President of Killarney Chamber of Tourism & Commerce, Paul O’Neill, added that it was “reassuring for visitors and locals alike to know that if they get into difficulty, we have some of the best trained and committed rescue services to be found anywhere in the world.” The rescue services were nominated for the 2018 Humanitarian Award by Michael O’Connor, who spoke of the sacrifices made and risks taken by the many volunteers who help others in distress. “They give up family and leisure time to train and respond to search and rescue calls, and their bravery, selflessness and dedication is exemplary,” he said. “This greatly encourages the next generation to follow suit.” Schools bursary donations were also presented to the Kerry Mountain Rescue, RNLI and Killarney Water Rescue by students Ciara O’Sullivan (Holy Cross), Brian Kelleher (Killarney Community College) and Gearóid Sugrue (The Mon NS).

Gooch spoke of his admiration for Monsignor O’Flaherty.
Kerry GAA legend Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper has spoken of his admiration for fellow Mon NS alumnus Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty. Cooper was speaking at the Killarney launch of Leo’s War, a new novel for young readers based on the life of inspirational World War II hero Hugh O’Flaherty. “Like most people of my age in Killarney, I knew nothing of this great man and his humanitarian work during the war in Rome,” Cooper said. “But since the setting up of the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society and the publication of various books, including Leo’s War, I now make time to learn more about this incredible hero. “This ordinary Killarney Mon boy attended the same school as I did, but he went on to do extraordinary things in the service of others.” This latest novel from best-selling author Patricia Murphy is based on the true story of O’Flaherty, who was also known as The Vatican Pimpernel. During WW2 in Nazi occupied Rome, the monsignor was responsible for setting up and running the now famous Rome Escape Line. He is credited with saving over 6,000 people who were being hunted by the Gestapo. “Children love history - when it is presented in language they can relate to and with a fun and/or mystery element in the story,” said Jerry O’Grady of the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society. “Patricia Murphy’s Hands on History series delivers this in spades.” The Killarney launch took place as part of the 2018 Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Weekend which is supported by Killarney Chamber of Tourism & Commerce and Kerry County Council Community Support Fund.
Marian with her children, Michael and Sinéad.
Marian Collins, the proprietor of The Village Inn in Kilcummin, retired this week after almost 20 years of service as a business owner in the community. Marian and her late husband, Lal, bought the The Village Inn in September 1999. She has been serving pints to the community of Kilcummin for the past 20 years. The Village Inn, better known to locals as Lal’s, is saddened at her departure as she has been a pillar in the parish over the last two decades. Marian is known for her kindness and generosity and her way with people. Whilst many in the hospitality industry provide a service, Marian has always gone beyond the call of duty for her customers. Marian had her retirement party in The Village Inn over the Bank Holiday Weekend which was organised by her daughter Sinéad. A large crowd gathered to show their support and gratitude to their local landlady. Marian filled her last pint on Tuesday night, which one again saw the bar counter lined with customers. Tears were shed and a warm round of applause sent Marian happily on her way to retirement. “I won’t miss the late nights and the long hours but I will miss the friendships and relationships that I have developed over the years,” Marian said. “And of course, the many, many laughs that we have shared over the years.”

Dine in the Dark event to benefit charity for the blind
V
Next Wednesday, November 14 the team in Danú at The Brehon will host an intriguing event at which diners will be invited to enjoy their meal blindfolded. The Dine in the Dark challenge is all part of a national campaign promoted by both the Restaurants Association of Ireland and the National Council for the Blind (NCBI). Fifty restaurants across the country are set to take part by hosting a Dine in the Dark evening during the month of November and €10 from every meal will be donated to the NCBI. “We challenge our customers to dine in the dark on Wednesday,” said Sinéad McCarthy, General Manager at The Brehon. “The entire team here in Danú are really looking forward to taking part in this fantastic initiative in aid of NCBI. Our customers can expect a wonderful dining experience when the taste, textures and flavours of our food will tantalise the taste buds.” Without their sight to guide them, guests experience complex tastes, flavours and textures in a completely new and innovative way. Senses are heightened, altering taste, touch, smell and communication during the meal. The three-course Dine in the Dark evening at Danú at The Brehon costs €35 per person with €10 going to the NCBI. Careers fair to help students make the right choice The Kerry Branch of Guidance Counsellors will celebrate College Awareness Week by holding a Careers Fair on Wednesday, November 21 in the Great Southern Hotel Conference Centre. The event will be open to the public and all second level schools from 9am to 3pm and admission is €3. Information talks for students on PLCs, Apprenticeship, the CAO system and SUSI grants will take place at various times during the day. Several information talks for parents will be held on Tuesday evening, November 20, also in the Great Southern Hotel. Parents are invited to attend whatever talks are relevant to their son/daughter. Admission is free and they provide parents with the opportunity to support their son/daughter in this important decision. The times are as follows: 7pm & 8pm Information on the CAO system SUSI Grants 7pm UCAS (Colleges in the UK), HEAR (Higher Education Access Scheme) 8pm EUNICAS (Colleges in Europe) DARE (Disability Access Route to Education)

“We are delighted to be part of a nationwide campaign to promote the importance of post-secondary education,” said Niamh Dwyer, PRO of Kerry Branch of the Institute of Guidance Counsellor. “There are lots of options out there and College Awareness Week encourages people of all ages to consider further education as part of their future. The Careers Fair gives students an ideal opportunity to meet representatives from the colleges, pick up information and have any queries answered. The information talks will provide parents with
the specific information they need to support their son/ daughter in making this important decision and about practical issues such as SUSI grants and the HEAR and DARE schemes.” CAW aims to inspire and inform all students about the importance of having a post-secondary education plan. It advocates for students to have the choice to pursue the course best suited to their interests, abilities and dreams, whether that is a PLC qualification, an apprenticeship or a university degree.

Charity event
Renowned sports stars team up for Recovery Haven Kerry GAA greats, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh and Aiden O’Mahony, horse racing guru Ted Walsh and Ireland’s women’s rugby captain Ciara Griffin, are among the sporting personalities who will line out to support Recovery Haven Kerry later this month. The cancer support charity, which holds outreach services at The Reeks the first and third Tuesday of each month, has teamed up with wellknown journalist and sports writer, Billy Keane from Listowel to host ‘An Evening of Sporting Greats’ on Friday night, November 30th, at Tralee’s Ballyroe Heights Hotel. Billy will MC a panel of well-known sports personalities, chatting to them about their life, their career highs and lows, and some audience interaction is also planned with a Q&A session from the floor. The aim of the night is to raise much needed funds for Recovery Haven, which delivers free, non-medical therapeutic services to those who are experiencing cancer, their families and carers at their Tralee base, as well as their outreach services in Killarney and Killorglin. The charity is thrilled to secure the support of such high-profile personalities
as Micheál, Aiden, Ted and Ciara, with even more well-known stars expected to join the bill in the coming weeks, Recovery Haven PR and Marketing Officer Marisa Reidy explained. “Everyone at the charity is honoured to have such renowned sporting names take part in the fundraiser,” she said. She also paid tribute to event MC Billy Keane saying he has been a huge support to Recovery Haven since it first opened its doors. “From the minute we approached Billy about doing this he was on board, and we really appreciate that because we know he is asked to do this kind of thing a lot,” she said. “And to have people like Micheál, Ted, Aiden and Ciara take time out of their busy schedules to do this for us is really humbling.” Marisa said that organisers are still in talks with a number of other exciting Irish sports stars and is confident that they will be added to the bill once scheduling is confirmed. “With absolutely no state funding, we rely solely on donations and fundraising events to help us meet our annual operating costs of over €150,000, so we really want to make our sports night in November a truly memorable one,” Marisa said.
Launching Recovery Haven’s ‘Evening of Sporting Greats’ which takes place at Ballyroe Heights Hotel on November 30th are hotel manager Jonathan Collins, Dermot Crowley Recovery Haven, event MC Billy Keane and Philomena Stack, Recovery Haven.
“The event promises to be a wonderful occasion for sports fans of all disciplines - with some great banter guaranteed with Billy at the helm. There will also be some great sports-related
items up for auction.” Tickets are priced at €20 and will be available from Recovery Haven on 066 7192122 from today (Friday).

Heavy winds & rainfall expected for Kerry Met Éireann issued a number of Status Yellow weather warnings yesterday with adverse conditions expected throughout this morning and into this evening. The rainfall warning, which applies to Kerry, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford as well as a number of counties in Leinster and Connacht, was announced Thursday at 11am and at time of going to print was due to remain in place until 6pm today. Heavy rain was expected to lead to accumulations of around 25 to 40mm in some areas. A simultaneous wind warning was also issued for Munster and Connacht. “Southeasterly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/hr,” a statement from Met Éireann read. “Gusts will exceed these values in exposed coastal areas and on higher ground, especially in the south-

Acosta had asked Trump if his comments on the migrant caravan approaching the US had “demonised” the people in question by calling it an “invasion”. “I think you should let me run the country, you run CNN, and if you did it well, your ratings would be much better,” Trump said. When Acosta followed up with a second question on Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, Mr Trump became visibly agitated, talking over Acosta as he continued to try to speak. “That’s enough. That’s enough. That’s enough. Excuse me, that’s enough.” Mr Trump claimed that he was “not concerned about anything” because the investigation was “a hoax”. “That’s enough,” Trump added. “Put
down the mic.” A female White House aide tried to intervene by retrieving the microphone from Acosta but when he refused to hand it over, Trump stepped away from the podium. Returning to speak, Mr Trump said: “I’ll tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN. “The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible and the way you treat other people are horrible. You shouldn’t treat people that way.” NBC reporter Peter Alexander was called on by the president to speak instead of Acosta. “In Jim’s defence I’ve travelled with him a lot, he’s a diligent reporter,” Alexander said. Trump quickly interrupted and quipped, “I’m not a big fan of yours either.” Acosta carried on addressing Trump without a microphone, prompting Trump to retort: “Just sit down, please. When you report fake news – no – when you report fake news, which CNN does, a lot, you are the enemy of the people.”

7,000 UK households still watching TV in black & white It may be 50 years since the advent of colour television but 7,161 households in the UK are still watching TV in black and white, it has been revealed. According to TV Licensing, London has the largest number of black and white televisions (1,768), followed by the West Midlands (431) and Greater
Manchester (390). Regular colour broadcasts began in the UK in July 1967 when BBC 2 broadcast the Wimbledon tennis tournament. In 2000, there were 212,000 black and white TV licences but by 2003 that number had declined to 93,000. Three years ago, in 2015, the number had dropped below 10,000.
French football club investigate racial profiling allegations French football club Paris St-Germain are investigating allegations that the organisation racially profiled young players in order to limit their number of black players in their academy. PSG have said that from 20132018, their scouting department filled out evaluation forms on some young players, including stating ethnicity. They are investigating “to understand how such practices could exist and decide what measures must be taken”. Social profiling such as the kind reported by Mediapart, the French website who broke the story, is illegal in France.
Paris St-Germain said in a statement the forms were established “purely on the personal initiative of the person in charge of this department”. They added that recruitment is decided only on “skills and behaviour” and that the forms went against PSG’s “spirit and values”. According to the documents, obtained from the Football Leaks platform, PSG’s former chief scout Marc Westerloppe told colleagues there was a “problem with the direction of the club”. He reportedly added: “There are too many West Indians and Africans in Paris.”
Just four dog-fouling fines issued in Dublin Figures released yesterday have revealed that just four dog-fouling fines have been issued in Dublin City in 2018. By comparison, 23 fines were issued in 2017, 78 in 2016 and 26 in 2015. The figures were released to Councillor Patrick Costello from Dublin City Council. All four fines this year were issued in Dublin Central. In previous years, the majority of fines had been issued in Dublin South Central. Interestingly, out of the four fines issued this year, just one was paid.

McClean gets death Thousand Oaks gunman threats for poppy stance
kills 12 in bar
Republic of Ireland and Stoke midfielder James McClean has received death threats following his refusal to wear a poppy, his club manager has revealed. The 29-year-old was subjected to a torrent of abuse from a section of his own fans during last weekend’s match against Middlesbrough and Gary Rowett said the Derry native and his family have received offensive materials in the post. “He’s been sent stuff which I’ve seen,” Rowett said. “You can understand in a way why he reacts. He’s only human.” McClean has faced constant criticism for his decision not to sport the customary poppy, which commemorates members of the British Armed Forces who have died in the line of duty. This issue has rumbled on for a number of years but the situation has been particularly fractious this time out.
Earlier this week, McClean was warned by the FA after he took to Instagram to defend his actions and call some Stoke fans “cavemen”. The winger has explained his stance on numerous occasions in the past. “I know many people won’t agree with my decision or even attempt to gain an understanding of why I don’t wear a poppy,” he said in a statement last month. “I accept that but I would ask people to be respectful of the choice I have made, just as I’m respectful of people who do choose to wear a poppy.” His club, Stoke, have backed their player, saying that they “respect his decision and his right to follow his own convictions”. “We recognise that the poppy means different things to different individuals and communities and (like the Royal British Legion) do not believe that anybody should be forced or even pressured to wear the poppy against their free will.”
Dutchman wants to legally lower age ... for Tinder A Dutch national is taking to the courts in an attempt to have his age legally lowered by 20 years – to boost his chances on Tinder. 69-year-old Emile Ratelband wants to move his birthday from March 11, 1949 to March 11, 1969, saying the change is comparable to identifying as transgender. Mr Ratelband says he is being discriminated against because of his age, which is affecting his employment possibilities and his success rate on popular dating app Tinder. “When I’m on Tinder and it says I’m 69, I don’t get an answer,” Ratelband said. “When I’m 49, with the face I
have, I will be in a luxurious position.” Mr Ratelband added that his doctors have told him that he has the body of a 45-year-old, before describing himself as a “young god”. His case his unlikely to be successful, however, as there are currently no legal mechanisms that would allow a person to change their birth date.
12 people have been killed in a mass shooting incident in Thousand Oaks, California. A US Marine Corps veteran with suspected mental health issues killed a dozen people, including a policeman, in a busy bar, officials say. The shooting began at 11.20pm local time (7.20am) on Wednesday night in Thousand Oaks, which is approximately 40 miles (65km) north-west of Los Angeles.
Officials say that 200 people were reportedly inside the Borderline Bar and Grill, which was hosting a student line-dancing night. Police have named the suspect as 28-year-old Ian David Long. Authorities have also confirmed that mental health professionals interviewed and cleared Long earlier this year after sheriffs’ deputies found him behaving “irate” and “erratically” at his home.
Chinese channel unveils AI news anchors Xinhua News, China’s state news agency, has unveiled a pair of virtual presenters who can “read texts as naturally as a professional news anchor”. “Hello, you are watching English news programme,” says the English-speaking AI presenter at the beginning of his first report. “I will work tirelessly to keep you informed as texts will be typed into my system uninterrupted.” Chinese search engine Sogou was involved
in the system’s development. A Chinese-speaking version with a different face has also been launched. Xinhua says the presenters can “work” 24 hours a day on its website and social media channels, “reducing news production costs”. An artificial intelligence (AI) system has been used to synthesise the presenters’ voices, lip movements and expressions. The virtual anchors are based on the likenesses of real Xinhua presenters.

Ask if your physiotherapist is CORU registered
V
Is your physio providing you with care based on the most up to date guidelines? Physiotherapists are now required to be CORU registered to ensure that they have the same qualification, basic knowledge and be held to the same high standards as any other medical professional. Sam Treharne of Treharne Physiotherapy explains: “Up until now, ‘chartered physiotherapist’, ‘physical therapist’ and other professions such as chiropractor and osteopath have been used interchangeably by Irish patients and doctors alike. “The title of a ‘chartered physiotherapist’ now joins other health professionals such as occupational therapists, radiographers and dieticians in being regulated by CORU and being a legally protected title. “As of October 1, however, all chartered physiotherapists are required to be registered or undergoing registration with CORU as a way of protecting the profession and public seeking out services.” CORU was set up in 2005 to protect the public by promoting high standards of professional conduct, education, training and competence through statutory
regulation of health and social care professions. This means that chartered physiotherapists will now be legally required to provide evidence of continued learning beyond their degree. This is something that a large amount of chartered physiotherapists already do, but now they will have to provide evidence to prove this. This will hopefully ensure, as best as possible, that your physiotherapist is providing you with care based on the most up to date guidelines and not something out of the dark ages. “You would expect your doctor, dietician or solicitor to have been through the same basic training as any other doctor even if they end up specialising in different areas,” Sam says. “Obtaining the qualifications should be tough, rigorous and not allow anyone to get it or claim that they are one. A chartered physiotherapist should be able to produce a CORU registration number to show you they are fully qualified.” • For more information or to book an appointment with chartered physiotherapist Sam Treharne, call 089 4228493 or email treharnephysio@outlook.com.

Kerry company thinking BIG this Christmas with new county annuals All parents and children are familiar with the concept of the ‘School Annual’ ... uniquely Irish, unchanged in decades. However, new kids on the block ‘Historia Publishing’ are changing the rules of the game. Historia have really broken the mould as they’ve developed a number of bespoke Christmas ‘County Specific’ school annuals. So if you’re from Kerry, Cork, Dublin or Galway, your annual is about your county. A concept by Damien Switzer, Creative Director at Historia Publishing, there’s nothing generic about the annuals - as they are designed especially for today’s children with Irish content. “As a father of four I have had the pleasure of finding an annual fused to a ripe banana at the bottom of a school bag on more than one occasion, with only a few pages filled out,” Damien said. “Teachers have told me that kids are excited to order the annuals, pester their teachers on when they’re arriving - but after an hour or so flicking through, the book gets discarded. So this spurred me on to design something different.” Each county annual has its own cover, and the first eight pages are specific to that county: a two-page spread on the county’s location, population, town names, county crest and origins, plus a colouring section; a two-page spread on county facts, (not the usual stuff … from landmarks to fun trivia); a two-page spread on the GAA, with county crest, facts, sporting greats, origins and a colouring section; and finally a page on that county’s famous people, current and historic. The information is quirky and fun, but laced with history and facts, Damien added. “We have four different covers for four age groups including Junior and Senior Infants, First and Second class, Third and Fourth class and Fifth and Sixth class, with two different book blocks consisting of 72 pages that cover the younger and older age groups. Instead of the usual generic off-the-internet content other annuals feature, we have incorporated a distinctly Irish theme into our annuals, and designed bespoke graphics to match. And they’re A4 – almost double the size of other annuals.” Flicking through the annuals, it’s clear that the content has been designed with a distinctly Irish flavour. Double-page spreads like ‘Design your own Treasure Map’ feature Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley. Spreads on Irish sports celebrate achievements in handball, camogie, rowing and gymnastics. Children can also solve anagrams of Irish towns and cities. There are several pages of Irish facts and trivia, puzzles, things to do, stories, and much more. Colourful and engaging, each annual will appeal to a wide range of abilities, with pages ranging from easy to more-challenging. “Many activities encourage kids to interact with each other or their parents,” he said. Historia has pedigree: its parent company is the KC Print Group, Ireland’s Largest Trade Printer, located in Killarney, County Kerry, and owned and run by the Casey family for over 45 years. Tell your teachers to check out the website, www.schoolannuals.ie.

CAO 2019 now open for applications
Career guidance counsellor Niamh Dwyer
At this stage of the year, any students who have progressed on to higher education institutions through the CAO are well settled into the college year and are half way through their first semester. Therefore the CAO journey begins for the Class of 2019. From this past Monday, the CAO application system became live for the 2019 season. Students, including school leavers, mature students, FETAC/QQI and other non-standard applications, can register their CAO application by logging on to www.cao.ie and clicking on Apply. By registering your personal details and paying the application fee (€30 before 5.15pm on January 20 and €45 from then to February 1 at 5.15pm) you receive your CAO number. Once you have completed this first step you can edit your application by using the My Application facility. Some further supplementary information may be required by the various deadlines so it is important to download the CAO handbook and read it carefully. Courses can be introduced up to February 1 at 5.15pm and can be amended later. The Change of Mind facility opens from May 7 to July 1 at 5.15pm. However, students must be careful about courses that are marked as Restricted in the CAO handbook
as they can’t be added in after the February 1 deadline. It is essential to enter your personal details carefully and correctly to avoid any confusion at offers stage. Students have the option to fill up to 10 choices for level 8 courses and 10 choices for level 6/7 choices. Before applying for a course, check that you meet the minimum entry requirements - this information is available on the website of the institution. Having the points for a course is not enough; you must meet the course/institution’s requirements to be considered. The most important rule of all is that you must place your course choices in genuine order of preference. This is an exciting time for students but it can become daunting and confusing as you try to make this important decision about what route to take. The key thing is to start the process early, use all the resources around you and ensure that you research thoroughly all courses that you include in your CAO application. That way you will make an informed choice. Online resources like www.careersportal.ie and www.qualifax.ie are very helpful and the college websites have lots of details about courses. The CAO
website has lots of very useful resources for students and parents to try to assist you in this process. And don’t forget to talk to lots of people who can help such as parents, older siblings and relations, people you know who have studied or worked in the area that interests you, your guidance counsellor and teachers and of course the staff in the various colleges.

Lower your fuel bill with a stove There’s no denying the rustic, romantic appeal of heating a home with a stove. There’s nothing quite like watching the flames flicker and dance with the wind howling outside, while you’re cosy on the inside. Summer can’t touch this! Plus, stoves don’t just look the part, they’re also much cheaper to run, often running at an 80pc efficiency - which means far lower fuel bills in comparison to an open fire. Whether you’ve just bought a stove or are researching getting one, there are a number of things to consider so you can make the most of your wood burner or multi-fuel stove. To help make your decision that bit easier, we spoke with one of Munster’s top stove specialists, Denis O’Leary of Corcoran’s Furniture and Carpets, to get a couple of quick pointers gained from his 30 years’ experience in the industry. According to Denis, one of the first things to consider is the type of fuel you want to burn. Multi-fuel stoves are are capable of burning a variety of materials other than wood. Apart from logs, a multi-fuel stove can burn smokeless fuels, anthracite and peat/turf briquettes. Wood burning stoves on the other hand only take wood as a fuel source, but are super easy to use and environmentally friendly. Despite their differences, both woodburning and multifuel stoves are highly efficient and have pretty much the same heat output. Another important consideration is how many rooms you need to heat. Do you need to heat a single room or numerous rooms through your central heating system? A room-heating stove simply replaces your open fire and come with various heat outputs depending on the size of your room. Central heating boiler stoves can
heat your entire home through the radiators in your home. Getting the right size and heat output, which is measured in kilowatts (kW) and ranges from 3kW to over 30kW, is also a key part in ensuring you have the most efficient stove according to Denis. If you pick a stove with too high an output for your home, you’ll likely have the windows open all the time to cool it down – or end up running the stove at a lower temperature, which ultimately produces more tar and smoke and

Essential tips for heating efficiency THE Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) says your objective when it comes to home heating is to learn how to make your home comfortable with the minimum amount of heat, by using the heating systems and the controls that you have. Experiment with the following tips and mix and match to see what works for you. Switch the heating system on later in the morning and off earlier in the evening. The best way to find the right balance for your house is to experiment a little, first of all try turning on the central heating 30 minutes before you get up and off 1 hour earlier in the evening. Turn the heating in living areas down to 20°C – this could save you 10% off your heating bill. The temperature in hallways and bedrooms should be cooler – ideally 15-18°C. Use temperature cards (available from SEAI) in a number of rooms, to prevent overheating and familiarise yourself with what different temperatures feel like. If you have a thermostat on your central-heating boiler, experiment to get the lowest setting (some systems may require a plumber). You can reduce it
in mild weather, but don’t go below 60°C. Typically, the optimum setting is between 70°C and 80°C (i.e. adjust the dial between ‘min’ max’ on gas boilers) — but it really pays to experiment.
Make a note of the settings you try, and the results you obtain to control the heat output in response to the weather and indoor temperatures. Use Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) to adjust heat output from radiators when in rooms in response to your heating needs. Turn off your heating at night when you’re in bed and likewise when you’re not there, or if you’re going to be away for a few days. Open the curtains and blinds in rooms facing south during the day to let in the heat of the sun. Use conservatories during sunny winter days to heat the house by opening the doors from them into the house while it’s sunny, but by closing them when it’s overcast and dark outside. Effective use of windows provides sufficient ventilation without overcooling rooms. Don’t leave external doors and windows open unnecessarily. Use internal doors to maintain heating zones and distribution of heat throughout the main spaces. Close doors to separate heated from unheated areas of your home, and minimise the heated area. Turn off radiators in rooms which are not used very often.
AND BE IN WITH A CHANCE TO WIN 500LTRS OF HEATING OIL (terms & conditions apply)

Five ways to get your home ready for winter Now is the perfect time to prepare your home for the winter. Below are our top tips to protect your premises over the coming months and ensure you and yours are comfortable, cosy and safe.
ROOF CHECK
Once the leaves have fallen off the trees you may find that your roof and gutters are clogged with foliage and other debris – particularly after the recent storms. Cleaning your gutters will reduce the chances of them overflowing. Similarly, as the temperature reduces, the overflowing gutters may freeze over and cause further damage.
INSULATE YOUR HOME
One of the best ways to make your home more energy efficient is ensuring that it is insulated correctly. If you have an attic this should be your first area to insulate, as there is a lot of heat loss through roofs. You should also check your windows and doors to make sure they are airtight.
CHECK YOUR HEATING
One of the most important things to do is to check your heating system to ensure everything is in order. Get your boiler serviced and bleed your radiators as they may have air trapped inside which can affect their efficiency. This will not only save energy but could reduce your electricity bill.
CLEAN SWEEP
As the fireplace was probably dormant for the past few months, it may be a good idea to have a chimney sweep take a look at it, before you light the fire on a cold winter’s night. This will prevent any damage to your fireplace and possibly your home, should the chimney be dirty or clogged.
COVER YOURSELF
Ensure you have the adequate level of cover in place before it’s too late. Insurance companies have a range of home insurance policies in place.

Your pruning questions answered
Last week’s article on pruning raised more questions, it seems, than it answered. So I thought I had better expand on pruning this week, as it is a job almost any gardener must undertake. First of all, let me say a few words about hedging. Most hedging can be trimmed twice a year, generally after the first flush of growth in June and then again in autumn to keep it tidy for the winter. A petrol or electric trimmer is very useful in this regard. Please take care where there are power lines, or where there is danger of debris falling on passers by, and yourself, of course. Bare rooted hedging can be planted from now until March, and is a much more cost effective way of buying than potted plants. To plant bare rooted hedging, it is best practice to dig a trench the entire length of the hedge to be, place either well rotted manure or fertiliser in it. Backfill about 10cm in depth with a mixture of peat and soil, so that the plant roots do not touch the manure. Put the plants in place and fill the trench back with topsoil, making sure to firm down well. Roses were also of concern to readers. Roses are generally cut back in the autumn, but I find a double prune is safest, in case the winter is very harsh. Cut one third back now to tidy the rose up, and then before bud break in the spring cut back by another third, and also thin it out in the middle if it is a hybrid
tea or a floribunda. Floribunda roses, those which have multiple blooms on one stem, are kept at about 30cm, while single flowered roses can be cut back to about 20cm. Rambling roses, if they are in the way, can be cut back to 20cm, even ground level, as they produce shoots from the base. Climbing roses should be left to grow to the desired height before pruning the main stems, but all side shoots can be kept short. If the climbing rose has only one main stem but you wish it to fan out, cut it back so as to encourage side stems. Standard roses can be cut back to about 30cm now, as keeping them top heavy will increase the risk of them snapping. As a general rule of thumb, plants which flower very early in the year, such as flowering currant or forsythia, should be pruned immediately after flowering or they will not flower the following year. Plants which flower in the Summer or Autumn can be cut back in the dormant season, from November to March. Plants which are very vigorous can be cut back in the Summer to reduce vigour – by reducing the amount of leaves you are effectively reducing the plants’ ability to create too much food. Electric Vehicles
These are the world’s most googled car brands, by country
Ford and Volkswagen are expected to announce a joint development program for self-driving cars and electric vehicles (EVs) before the end of the year. Reuters has reported that the two companies are currently engaged in ‘exploratory talks’ that could eventually lead to product-development cost savings worth billions of US dollars. The two companies are known to be collaborating on commercial vehicle development – which could include a jointly-developed replacement for Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok, although that’s believed to be unlikely in the short term. Expanding the strategic alliance to include product development for EVs and autonomous cars could draw on each company’s respective expertise – Ford with its high-profile autonomous motoring work and VW with its EV development lead. Neither company is prepared to confirm the report currently.

Ford & Volkswagen discuss EV sharing
The Swedes and the French are patriotic, but most of the world simply gravitates towards Toyota. These were just some of the findings in the latest automotive study, which analysed Google search data to find out which car brands are searched for the most in different parts of the world. As you would have deduced from the graphic, Toyota was the most searched for car brand around the world in the past 12 months, coming out tops in 57 of the 171 countries that were surveyed and commanding a global average of 7.8 million searches a month. Toyota was the most searched for much of the African continent, the USA, Canada and Australia. BMW came second in the country rankings globally, dominating the search widgets in 25 countries, closely followed by its arch-rival Mercedes-Benz (23 million), while Honda and Ford were the runners up in outright numbers game, attracting 7 million and 6.4 million searches respectively. Among other interesting results, Lamborghini came out tops in 12 countries, while seven nations, including Norway, the Netherlands, China and Hong Kong, were keener on Tesla. Hyundai was the most searched car brand in Ireland. Only five countries showed some kind of patriotism in their searches, with Volvo being the most searched for in Sweden, Renault in France, Mercedes-Benz in Germany, Perodua in Malaysia and Maruti in India.
Subaru rumoured to field new hatchback in WRC racing The Subaru WRX and WRX STI are due for a refresh in 2019, but the forthcoming models are too large to compete in the World Rally Championship. That may be why, according to reports, Subaru could be working on building a brand-new hot hatchback—just to field it in the WRC. The new vehicle would be a competitor to the small Toyota Yaris and the Ford Fiesta. Currently, Subaru doesn’t have a vehicle eligible for competition in the WRC, but reports suggest this rumoured hatchback could be just the ticket. The WRC had no Japanese teams between 2009 and 2016, but since Toyota returned in 2017, Subaru wants back in, too, for 2019. Japan lost the bid to host the WRC for 2019, but are working on hosting for 2020 to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics.

BMW unwraps 8 Series convertible
BMW has officially shown the roofless version of their new flagship model range. Sharing its footprint with the two-door coupe, the soft top will be capable of carrying two people in comfort and another two in discomfort. The M850i xDrive version will share the same biturbo 4.4-litre V8 petrol motor as the flagship coupe. There is also an 840d xDrive, with a turbocharged, 3.0-litre straight six diesel. BMW also claims the convertible’s aerodynamics are actually a bit better than the coupe’s, making it slipperier through the air. Due on sale in Europe next March, the convertible will expand the 8 Series range that is expected to include both an M8 coupe and a four-door coupe at some point in the second half of 2019.

13TH ANNIVERSARY FLEMING
Three years have passed, Since that awful day, I can’t believe how quickly, Time has slipped away. Ed, you are in my every thought, And that will never change, You are my guiding light, Each and every day. Somewhere beyond the heavens, I know that’s where you are, I see you in the sunsets, You are my shining star. When stormy days surround me, You’re the rainbow that appears. And the gentle falling rain, Are kisses to wipe away my fears. They’ll be no more tomorrows, You’re all my yesterdays, But those memories we made Ed, Will stay with me Always. I hold you close within my heart, And there you will remain, To walk with me throughout my life, Until we meet again. Miss you Ed, Always & Forever With Love, Siobhán xxx Anniversary Mass for Ed is on Thursday 15th of November at 10:00am in Friary Church, Fairhill, Killarney. Remembered in all November’s Novena Masses.
You are more than a treasured memory, From whom we had to part, You’re a light that burns within us, In a corner of our hearts. God saw you getting tired, A cure was not to be, So he put his arms around you, And whispered “Come To Me”. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Always loved and remembered by your Aunty Fiona, Noreen and Patricia, Uncles Gordon and Jeremiah. Lots of love your cousins, Adam, Sarah, Lily, Lucy, Joshua and Conor.

On the 18th November God looked around his garden, And found an empty place, He then looked down on earth, And saw our dad’s tired face, He put his arms around him, And laid him to rest, God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.
Wrap your arms around him Lord, Don’t leave him on his own, For it is his Anniversary, And he can’t come home,
He knew you were struggling, He knew you would never get well on earth again, He saw the road was getting rough, And the hills were hard to climb, He closed your weary eyelids and whispered ‘Peace be Thine’.
Call his name softly, And when he looks your way, Tell him we love him, And miss him every day.
It broke our hearts to lose you Dad, But you didn’t go alone, Part of us went with you, The day God called you home.
Loved and missed now and always by your loving wife Kathleen, son Shane, daughters Caitriona and Máire, extended family and friends.
Always remembered by your loving wife Mary, sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

Adam Moynihan charts the highs and lows of David Clifford’s debut year
Kerry’s golden boy lives up to the hype
Welcome to the big leagues: Debutant David Clifford gets shouldered by Donegal’s Paddy McBrearty. Pic: Don MacMonagle.
It seemed virtually impossible but he somehow managed it: David Clifford lived up to the hype in 2018. Never in the history of Kerry GAA had a debut season been so eagerly anticipated and there were fears in certain quarters that the pressure might get to the Fossa youngster, who celebrated his 19th birthday on January 22. Making the step up to senior is difficult enough as it as is, but having the weight of the entire county on his shoulders before a ball was kicked would surely take its toll. The consensus was that we had to be patient and let him find his feet. It turns out our cautiousness was misplaced. Clifford didn’t just find his feet; he was superb throughout Kerry’s up-and-down campaign and he quickly established himself as one of the team’s most important players. Last weekend he was rightly named Young Player of the Year and also received an All-Star, the only Kerry player to get the nod in 2018. But Clifford’s season wasn’t without its lows. Despite the personal accolades, he was unable to lead Kerry beyond the inaugural Super 8s while his much-fancied East Kerry side also came up short in the Kerry SFC. All in all, it has been a remarkable 12 months for David Clifford. Here are the key moments that shaped his memorable debut year.

09.11.18 The Main Attraction
National League Kerry 2-18 | Donegal 3-14 Sunday, January 28 There was a genuine buzz around the Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday, January 28 as Kerry opened their 2018 National League campaign. Five debutants were on show in total so people were excited to see how this new-look Kerry team would fare, but the main attraction had number 13 on his back. David Clifford lined out for the seniors for the first time having turned down the AFL over the winter and expectations nationally were high. Many spectators – and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before - actually positioned themselves closer to the scoreboard end of the terrace, just to get a better look at the prodigious corner forward. The last time Clifford wore Kerry colours he kicked 4-4 in the All-Ireland minor final. Could he reach similar heights at senior level? The early signs were good but it was more his unselfish play than his scoring that caught the eye. He assisted 1-2 in the first half and registered his first senior point with a free in the 23rd minute, a score which drew one of the biggest cheers of the afternoon. He was withdrawn to a rousing ovation in the 47th minute and Daithí Casey’s late winner ensured that Clifford’s senior career got off to a victorious start.
Sarcastic cheers from the Hill
National League Dublin 2-17 | Kerry 0-11 Sunday, March 11 This was a huge test for Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s young charges and it proved a bridge too far as Dublin pulled away in the second half to win by 12. Clifford top scored for Kerry with 0-4 (0-2f) but every little mistake was greeted by sarcastic cheers from Hill 16. A testament, no doubt, to his burgeoning reputation in the game.
A handy championship debut
Munster Semi-Final Kerry 0-32 | Clare 0-10 Sunday, June 3 Clifford’s championship bow was memorable only for the fact that Kerry registered an eye-watering 32 points against a hapless Clare in Killarney. The former minor captain knocked over 0-2 (0-1f) in another assured display that belied his tender years. Paul Geaney and fellow debutant
Clifford celebrates his crucial goal against Monaghan. Pic: Ramsey Cardy/Sportsfile.
Seán O’Shea kicked 0-7 each as excitement over Kerry’s new forward division continued to grow.
The first taste of silverware
Munster Final Cork 2-04 | Kerry 3-18 Saturday, June 23 Clifford won his first senior trophy on June 23 as free-scoring Kerry secured their sixth Munster title in a row with a terribly one-sided victory over Cork. The Fossa man was solid, if unspectacular, in the Kingdom’s first game at the revamped Páirc Uí Chaoimh but the result was never really in doubt. Kerry’s status as provincial champions meant they would avoid heavy favourites Dublin in the Super 8s.
Kerry fall apart in Croker
Super 8s Kerry 1-10 | Galway 1-13 Sunday, July 15 This was undoubtedly the nadir of Kerry’s season as the wheels fell off against Galway in Croke Park. Galway, who hadn’t defeated the Kingdom in the championship in 53 years, were first to every ball and were coasting to a comfortable six-point win until a last gasp goal from Clifford put the cat amongst the pigeons. Clifford finished with 1-5 but this opening round defeat meant Kerry simply had to get a result against Monaghan in Clones.
Cliffy saves the day
Super 8s Monaghan 1-17 | Kerry 1-17 Sunday, July 22 Monaghan, who had outplayed the Kingdom throughout, led by five with five to play in this crucial game but a couple of late scores cut the deficit to three. It seemed to be a case of too little, too late until Kieran Donaghy knocked James O’Donoghue’s long ball into the waiting arms
of David Clifford. The Fossa man gathered, took aim and fired a perfectly placed shot through defenders, beyond Rory Beggan and into the corner of the net. Kerry were still alive, only just, and it was all thanks to Clifford, who scored 1-3 in total on the day. It was unquestionably the biggest moment of Clifford’s year and perhaps the most memorable moment from the entire championship. It ultimately mattered little, though, as Monaghan’s subsequent victory over Galway meant that Kerry exited the championship in ignominy.
Brothers see red in county semi-final
Kerry SFC Semi-Final Dingle 4-13 | East Kerry 0-12 Sunday, October 21 East Kerry had battered their way to the Kerry SFC semi-final with a string of comprehensive victories and were tipped by many to finally break Dr Crokes’ stranglehold over the Bishop Moynihan Cup. Things fell apart in their semi-final replay against Dingle, however, as Clifford brothers David and Paudie both saw red in an ill-tempered affair. It was a sad end to the season, especially considering how strong East Kerry were this year.
All-Star nod and Young Player of the Year
Friday, November 2 Clifford was excellent in his debut season so there were no arguments when he earned a spot on the 2018 All-Star team. He also saw off stiff competition from Brian Howard and Michael McKernan to be crowned Young Player of the Year, the fourth Kerry player to earn the prestigious award since its inception in 1997. “It’s great to be recognised here tonight,” Clifford said at the gala black tie event - at which he didn’t wear a tie. (He drew criticism from some on social media for not adhering to the traditional dress code but I thought he looked well. I suppose there’s no accounting for taste.) It has been a brilliant start to Cliffy’s senior inter-county career and he will be eager to push on in 2019 under the guidance of his former minor coach, Peter Keane. Personal accolades are nice but you can be sure that there’s only one prize on his mind. Stopping Dublin’s drive for five will be a monumental task but with Clifford around, anything is possible.

Kilcummin and Crokes advance to last four
BY EAMONN FITZGERALD
Munster Intermediate Club 1/4 Final
Kilrush 0-7 | Kilcummin 0-1 It’s never easy to travel out to Clare and face Kilrush in the Munster Intermediate Championship, especially when you’re missing your two star players in Kevin McCarthy and Kieran Murphy. Kilcummin expected a tough battle and scores were hard to come by but they stuck to their task and were rewarded with a spot in the Munster semi-final. They trailed by 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time with Kevin Gorman receiveing a black card and Brendan Kealy pulling off a brilliant save. They were in a good position, though, as they had played against the breeze in that first period. Chris O’Leary put Kilcummin ahead for the first time in the 49th minute but they subsequently lost Shane McSweeney to a second yellow card. Late points from Phillip Casey and Noel Duggan were crucial as they recorded a 0-10 to 0-7 win. They can also thank Gary O’Leary and Matthew Keane for the large part they played in this Munster IFC quarter-final clash . It was a very rewarding win for the big contingent of Kilcummin supporters who crossed by ferry to cheer on their team.
Munster Senior Club 1/4 Final
Dr Crokes 3-15 | Moyle Rovers 0-8 Dr Crokes played some great football in Ardfinnan on Sunday last and put up a big score in this Munster SFC quarter-final. Moyle Rovers started well and kicked the opening point. Then Johnny Buckley caught two mighty balls in his own goalmouth which could well have been scores. In the fourth minute, Tony Brosnan kicked the first of his six points from frees. He was unerring with those placed balls and also kicked one point from play. The key forward in the first half was full forward
Kieran O’Leary who pounced on mistakes by the Tipperary defence to score two opportunistic goals. The first one came from good work by Tony Brosnan who turned over Patrick Morrissey and Kieran raised the first green flag from close in. Soon after, a long ball in from Johnny Buckley dropped short and Kieran was in the right place to score his second goal. He brought the half to a close with a point. Points were also scored by Daithí Casey,Micheál Burns and David Shaw. Crokes were nine points clear at half-time. Johnny Buckley lorded the exchanges at midfield throughout and the forwards did the rest. Moyle Rovers did have their chances but they needed to score goals. They were very unlucky early in the second half when shots came off the Crokes woodwork on two occasions. What a goal might have done for them at that stage. They were a lively bunch full of running despite trailing by so much over the whole game. Full credit to the Crokes defence who marked very tightly and sealed off paths to goal. The visitors lost Michael Moloney early on through injury but it did not disturb their defensive strategies. All the defence played their part and Gavin White was particularly effective. The referee was strict on the tackling, giving a black card and a straight red to two Moyle Rovers players. It certainly did not help their cause, particularly when Shane Foley got his marching orders in the 38th minute. Micheál Burns was also sent off for a second yellow card. Crokes were able to empty the bench from midway through the second half and one of those players, Michael Potts, came on and scored Crokes’ third goal late in the game. Crokes were very impressive and they will be confident going in to the semi-final on Sunday, even if the opposition will be much tougher and they will be playing their third Sunday in a row. The Barrs are worthy Cork champions and will be very keen to do well in Munster. They had the galling experience of
losing eight county finals in Cork. They lost in 1986, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 2009, 2010 and again in 2017. It is a great test of their character to see their comeback this year. There will be an intriguing tactical battle between Pat O’Shea and Cork manager Ray Keane. The latter is a brother to Peter Keane, the new Kerry boss.
Clash
The Crokes game will be on at the same time as the Kilcummin game on Sunday (1.30pm). What a shame that the Munster Council did not avoid this clash with both local games on at the same time. They could have played one game on Saturday and the other one on Sunday. They could still have put the two games on for the Sunday with different throw-in times of 12 noon and 2pm. So many supporters would like to see both games.
David Clifford
Congratulations to David Clifford, Fossa’s bright star, on his first All-Star. He is the only Kerry AllStar this year and he fought off stiff opposition to claim the corner forward position. He also won the Young Player of the Year. What a wonderful honour for himself, his family, Kerry and Fossa.
Paudie O Connor
Delighted to hear that the late Paudie O’Connor will be remembered at national level as a ladies basketball cup will be dedicated to his memory. Not alone was he a great player but he was also a great administrator. He made such a success of the Pretty Polly Ladies competition and spearheaded the idea of bringing in players from other countries to raise the standard of the men’s game.
Kerry Ladies
Best of luck to two Spa men who have been ratified to take charge of the Kerry ladies football team. Donal O’Doherty is the new manager and Tim O’Connor is a selector.

Casey: You don’t know what to expect at this time of year Munster Club Semi-Final | Dr Crokes v St Finbarr’s | Sunday at 1.30pm Dr Crokes are just 60 minutes away from their third Munster final in as many years after last weekend’s comprehensive victory over Moyle Rovers in Tipperary. Free-scoring forwards Kieran O’Leary (2-2) and Tony Brosnan (0-7) were once again to the fore for the Black and Amber as they coasted to a 3-15 to 0-8 win. The Kerry champions are heavy favourites to prevail at home to St Finbarr’s on Sunday but influential midfielder Daithí Casey says his side are taking nothing for granted. “It’s going to be very difficult,” he said. “They obviously have some star players like Ian McGuire, Michael Shields and Stephen Sherlock, and they brought Nemo to a replay last year (Nemo subsequently defeated
Crokes in the Munster final). So we certainly have big respect for them. “I actually don’t think being at home will be a huge advantage to us because we don’t play many championship games in Lewis Road; it’s usually Fitzgerald Stadium or Austin Stack Park. It’s going to be a very tough game and we’ll have to be at our best – even better than we’ve played in the last few weeks – to beat them.” Crokes didn’t get much respite between their county final heroics and last weekend’s Munster quarter-final but Casey said it was just a matter of focussing on the task at hand. “We thoroughly enjoyed our celebrations on Sunday and Monday and got back to the training on Wednesday. We trained a bit on Friday then and it was more about getting the heads
Dr Crokes forward Micheál Burns in action against Moyle Rovers.
right for the trip away than anything. “The biggest thing at this time of year is that you don’t know what to expect. You’re going away to different pitches, the weather can have an effect… We’ve been lucky enough over the last few years to have been playing in November so that experience should definitely count for something.” Intermediate champions Kilcummin are also on the cusp of a Munster final after their hard-fought win against Kilrush in Clare. Late points from Chris O’Leary, Philip Casey (2) and Noel Duggan secured a 0-10 to 0-7 victory for the Kerrymen, who will now host Kilmacthomas from Waterford in the last four. That game will also take place on Sunday at 1.30pm.
BY ADAM MOYNIHAN In the Munster Junior Club Championship, Beaufort will travel to Cahir on Saturday to take on Tipp champions Ballylooby-Castlegrace. Throw-in is at 1.30pm.

Killarney prepares for Viking invasion Lakers get LIT National League Division 1 BY EAMONN KEOGH
Scotts Lakers v Waterford Vikings Saturday at 7.30pm
The Auracle will be rocking once again on Saturday night when the Scotts Lakers welcome the Vikings of Waterford to Killarney. The Lakers have had an excellent start to their second season back in the big leagues and Coach Cormac O’Donoghue will be hoping to improve on their impressive 7-2 record this weekend. Only two teams in the entire league, DBS Eanna (8-0) and Ballincollig (9-0), have won more games to date and the Killarney side currently find themselves in a tie for second place in the Southern Conference. The signing of Seán O’Brien has proved to be an unqualified success. The Philly native, who was brought in by the club just a couple of days before their opening fixture, is averaging 25 points per game and his energetic and selfless play has quickly earned the affection of the St Paul’s faithful. Dutch powerhouse Papito Hersisia has also brought a lot to the table. The skilful big man is putting up a very solid 22.9 points per game. Skipper Mark Greene is achieving a level of consistency that perhaps evaded him in his comeback season, while fellow Irishmen Andy Fitzgerald, Shane McCarthy, Séamus Brosnan and the returning Pádraig Lucey are also making significant contributions. The signs are good so far and Coach O’Donoghue will be pleased with his side’s response after those defeats to Ballincollig and Carlow. The Lakers have won their last two games and victory on Saturday over the Vikings would set them up well for a tricky road fixture against Fr Mathews on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings have endured a terrible start to the 2018/19 season and face into tomorrow’s match with an abysmal 0-9 record. The Lakers will be hoping for a repeat of the reverse fixture which saw them prevail on a 102-73 scoreline. If they have their heads screwed on right, the hosts should prevail with points to spare.

Scotts Lakers continued their winning run at Killarney Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon with a nine-point victory over Limerick IT. It was a match the home side were cruising through for long periods and led by 29 points at one stage, but the visitors managed to shave off 20 points and narrow the deficit to single digits in the end. The Lakers were firing on all cylinders in the opening two quarters, scoring 56 firsthalf points. Their performance dipped considerably in the second half but the victory never really looked in doubt. The Killarney side now have a 7-2 winning record in the league and remain in second place in the Southern Conference. Scotts Lakers: Seán O’Brien (16), Mark Greene (15), Papito Hersisia (13), Andrew Fitzgerald (12), Justin Tuason (9), Dailian Mason (9), Séamus Brosnan (6), Cian Clernon (3), Pádraig Lucey (2), Shane McCarthy and James Murphy. LIT scorers: Matt Scamuffo (42), Deividas Venckunas (20), Kyrstian Burchardt (13) and Daniel Broderick (1).
NEXT GAME: Scotts Lakers v Waterford Vikings Séamus Brosnan and Papito Hersisia battle for possession with Liam Broderick of LIT.

Killarney U-16s too slick for Kanturk Munster Club U-16 Conference 2 | Kanturk 3-20 Killarney RFC
The Killarney RFC U-16s travelled to Kanturk on Sunday and secured their fourth successive victory in Munster Club Conference 2. Both sides started sluggishly and early Kanturk pressure resulted in a converted penalty from the 22-metre line. Killarney gradually got their running game together and after 16 minutes Thomas Clifford streaked over in the left corner after a slick passing move. Once in gear, Killarney kicked on and following line-breaking attacking play, Dan Twomey sent the powerful Cormac Rowe away to score in the right corner. Killarney enjoyed most of the possession and territory and the pressure eventually yielded a try when Donnchadh Grealy’s one-handed pass sent Liam Randles in under the posts. The conversion followed and the half-time score was 3-17 to the visitors. Victory was secured shortly after half-time when scrum half Peter Walsh barged over from close range. The final score of the game was registered by the impressive Bailey O’Sullivan who finished off a powerful Killarney drive. Kanturk battled bravely until the finish but Killarney counter-attacked impressively and would have added to their total but

for some uncharacteristic handling errors. Killarney got impressive performances from forwards John McCarthy and Bailey O’Sullivan, whose tackling was imperious. James Kennelly caught the eye from full back with his counter-attacking, Donnchadh Grealy’s passing was slick and the speed of Dan Twomey and Thomas Clifford always threatened. Younger members of the team Cormac Rowe
and Shane McAllister also contributed immensely. Starters: Robert Nealon, Bailey O’Sullivan, Alan Cronin; Shane McAllister, Cormac Rowe; Brendan O’Donoghue, John McCarthy, Pádraig Talbot; Peter Walsh, Donnchadh Grealy; Liam Randles, Thomas Clifford; Denis Koyun, Dan Twomey and James Kennelly. Subs: Mike O’Donoghue, Darren Cronin and Cengizhan Koyun.

Killarney Community Games
The AGM of Killarney Community Games was held in The Dromhall Hotel last Sunday evening. This was the most successful ever year for the area with a number of national medals being attained and good success and participation in the county competitions. We are delighted to welcome new parents onto the committee and indeed this is very important for the future of community games in the area. It was broadly agreed that there needs to be more awareness of the huge range of activities both sporting and cultural that the area could participate in and we will be posting these events on the Killarney Community Games Facebook page and on the notes going forward. The officers for the area 2019 are: Chairman Philip Gammell, Secretary Anthony Greaney, Treasurer Margaret Looney, Child Protection Officer Catriona White, PRO Billy Hennigan, Committee Sinéad Sugrue. The next event for the area is the Dunnes Stores bag packing taking place on Friday, December 21 and we hope the parents and children in the area will help with this vital fundraiser as this is only one of just two fundraisers that we do for the year. Congrats to all the children who participated for the area in 2018. We thank the parents for their ongoing support and we wish everyone all the best for 2019.

We have now been short-listed for the overall Club of the Year Award.
