Lions Club Spectacles Campaign Unites Schools and Opticians to Transform Lives in Africa

Killarney Lions Club has launched its inaugural ‘Spectacles Campaign’ to collect used eyeglasses which will be recycled and provided to individuals in Africa who need them.

All primary schools and opticians in the Killarney area have signed up to the initiative, which kicks off on June 12. Adult glasses, children’s glasses, sunglasses and prescription reading glasses can all be donated.

Students will be asked to bring used eyeglasses from home to school during the week of June12, while Kennelly’s Pharmacy and Opticians, Urban Optics, Specsavers and The Optical Suite will help extend the campaign beyond schools by serving as ongoing collection points for donations from anyone in the wider community.

“We are thrilled to launch our first-ever ‘Spectacles Campaign’ in collaboration with the national schools of Killarney and our local opticians,” said Denis Doolan, President of Killarney Lions Club.

“Through this initiative, we are asking everyone collect any glasses that they are finished with and donate them either through the primary schools or at the opticians. In doing so, they can help transform lives and contribute to a brighter future for those who lack access to proper eye care in Africa.”
