Fruit & Veg shortages likely

This week, Dr Richard Hackett, a consultant with the agriculture and food development agency - Teagas, warned that there could be a shortage of home-grown fruit and vegetables for the rest of the year.

“We'd a very dry February starting off, then we had a very wet March and April, and then we got very dry…Overall our rainfall is probably normal enough, but it's coming in bursts... and crops don't really like that”

Speaking on Newstalk during the week

Dr. Hackett explained how weather was not the factor that will likely lead to less Fruit and Veg on the supermarket shelves. Other issues at play include labour shortages in countries such as Spain, as well as on-going supply chain disruptions with the UK due to Brexit.

However, a new tragedy has developed in recent days. The disappearance of the Titanic submersible, a vessel used to explore the depths of the ocean, has left investigators very worries that the vessel and the five people onboard may never be recovered.

The Titan submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions was deisgned to explore the wreckage of the sunken SS Titanic off the coast of Newfoundland. A submersible vessel no bigger than a small van, Titan was designed to carry up to five people to a depth of 4,000 meters (13,120 feet). The wreckage of the cruise ship Titanic sits on the ocean floor about 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) below the surface.

On a routine dive to the site of the Titanic wreckage, the submersible descended into the depths, only to lose contact
